Riding the ENTIRE Natchez Trace Parkway in Two Days! Solo Motorcycle Road Trip
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- The Natchez Trace Parkway, one of the best motorcycle roads in the Southern USA, is a 444-mile scenic byway that takes you through Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. This historic route follows a 10,000-year-old footpath used by Native Americans, early explorers, and settlers, offering a journey through time and nature. It’s one of the best motorcycle rides in the Southern United States, due to its historical stops, scenery, minimal traffic and curvy roads, and of course, the southern cuisine you can find in the nearby towns. I took a 2-day solo motorcycle road trip to ride the entire Natchez Trace Parkway, plus check out a few of the towns along the route.
Here's a rundown of everything we'll be checking out:

WHEW! The Trace was actually a pretty fun ride. Boring at times of course but overall, I'd definitely go back, especially in the Fall! I'll be linking the full guide here once it's finished, but until then, you can check out the full parts list for my Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST: ridetofood.com/staci-wilts-2023-harley-davidson-low-rider-st-build-specs or just head over to the blog to read other travel guides and reviews! 😊
Nice video keep up the good work RideToFood
I live next to it and driven/rode on it for years. Always be on the lookout for wild animals. Deer are unpredictable and will take you out. Slow down if you see them. Don't ride at night. Park Rangers are using unmarked vehicles in certain sections for a reason. You may encounter other local, county and state LEOs on it for a reason. Had a few sketchy encounters at some places. Get an uneasy gut feeling, leave. Ride Safe.
You missed the worlds best friend chicken in Lorman, MS. According to the Food Network and Alton Brown's motorcycle travels for food.
@@Dave-sw2dm it's impossible to cover EVERYTHING near the trace in a single video. thanks for understanding!
@@ridetofood , I dont know where you are based out of but if you ever get to "Land Between the Lakes" area you should try the pork chop at Patti's 1880s Settlement in Grand Rivers, KY.
You are my living breathing "National Geographic" tour guide for motocycling. I really don't know how to pay you a better compliment. You are the best at what you do. Please be safe out there. Bill
That’s a great compliment! Thank you! 😊
One of the best moto channels on youtube. Perfect balance between product reviews, travel, food reviews, camping, riding, education and entertainment! Great content on the Trace. We have a trip planned to ride it in September. Thanks for the insight!
Awesome!! Thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot!
I ride the Natchez Trace nearly every day. I’m in Central Mississippi and my house is less than a mile from the Trace, so any time I feel like doing some leisurely riding, I just jump on the Trace and go. It’s a really lovely ride for most of the year, but the fall is definitely my favorite time to ride. Cooler temps, less humidity, and beautiful colors. French Camp is really neat, and The Council House has good food. Great video!
I was fortunate to see and ride different areas of the trace back in 1981-1983 while stationed for training at Columbus, MS. Yes, the turkeys down their were thick and fun to see/ hunt!
Oh the memories...We lived on the Trace twice.10 days and 8 days. We camped at all three free campgrounds and loved it. We had the chance to slow down and enjoy all the rich history the Trace has to offer.
Awesome!!
Awe maaan! Now we have to go back just for that burger 🍔
You’ll definitely need a pint of beer to eat that lean brisket. I always get the moist brisket too. That looks like a super nice place to ride.
Natchez Trance. 50 mph. FEDERAL speeding tickets. What fun.
Sounds like you learned the hard way!
The ambient noise is intense! Love the birds going crazy
haha those are real life birds. no special effects in post production
I rode the Natchez Trace both ways in October 2023 on a Honda Monkey. Racked up 1079 miles in four days. It was rough.
haha that's amazing! what a ride!
U have a utube channel? Would like to follow you, just got my monkey
Did the Trace last fall from Northbound Natchez to Nashville and YES stopped to eat at the Loveless Cafe. I found the Trace very relaxing even though the weather was still hot in October. Then I motored down to Birmingham AL for the Vintage Festival Weekend at Barber Motorsports. If you ride, you must go there. Just returned from a week out East starting at Front Royal VA. I have been on the Blue Ridge Parkway many times but this was going to be from beginning to the end including the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Traffic was light and temps are 7-10 degrees cooler than at the bottom of the Mountain.
Great episode as always. Thanks.
Hi! Great video! I commute the Jackson-Reservoir portion of the Trace everyday. (From I55-Hwy 43) That truly is the best portion of the southern part of the Trace. It does provide a great way to decompress from workday blues. If youre ever around this portion for sunset, turn off at Hwy 43, cross the land bridge to the Sunset Grill and marina. Its a spectacular spot to catch a sunset over water. Again, great video, you've given me new ideas for places to seek out n enjoy. Thank you for your hard work and very entertaining reviews of all your rides. May God bless n protect you over all your rides n endevours.
Love, love, love this episode! I am definitely adding the Trace to my future ride list. Great drop, Staci.
thanks tim!!!
My family would take the Trace from Florence, AL on our way to see family in Louisiana but they were always driving 80 MPH just trying to get there. I drove it at 50 from Jackson to Florence on a snowy day and just really enjoyed it.
I have never gone North from Florence to Nashville but plan on doing that soon.
My girlfriend lives three miles from the Trace and I took her on it the second time she ever rode a motorcycle and she loved it. So laid back and so much to see.
80 on the trace!! Shew!
@@ridetofood Yep. It was a way to get where they were going more than something to enjoy.
I really enjoy your videos. I take notes along the way. I'll have a book full of places to ride to when I have the opportunity. Thanks for all the work putting the videos together
You make me want to visit places I never even thought of! Great guide with so much helpful information for planning a trip! ❤
Young Lady, you do such an awesome job on your videos as you travel across this big wonderful country. Keep up the great work. Hats off to you. Iceman. American Legion Rider...
Thank you!
I’ve ridden the Trace from Nashville to Natchez and loved it! Even the boring sections are amazing because it’s so relaxing and beautiful. Loved the video! Thank you.
WHAT! MY FAVORITE MOTO CHICK IN MY FAVORITE ROAD!!! So awesome!! Love The Trace. Come back now!
haha glad you enjoyed it!! thank you
What a Gorgeous Awesome Beautiful Scenery lots of History of places that’s Awesome Amazing 😊
Another great video. Thank you.
Thank ya! Glad you enjoyed it
Love it!
Awesome video thanks for sharing it I have road it twice 👍👍
Very cool to see you're take on the Trace. My subdivision actually backs up to it at the Clinton Mississippi exit on mile marker 89. It can frequently be the ride, but it is a lot of times involved in one.
I rode the Trace three years back. I also ate ate at the Loveless Cafe and enjoyed the biscuits. Your advice about not riding the Trace at night because of deer is spot on. Love your content and of course the motorcycle.
Great video as always keep riding and keep being you 🤘
That’s the plan 🤝
Another great video. Thanks!
Thank YOU for always watching them!
I so envy your adventurous trips! Thanks4sharing…👍🏼🙂✌️❤️
Glad I could at least take ya along for the adventure via UA-cam! Thanks for watching :)
Great history and great ride. Thanks for sharing. Ride safe 👍
Thank you!
Thank you! You're so enjoyable to watch, you do a great job! I have not ridden that trail but now I've definitely added it to my ever growing list of future rides. Thank you!
thank you!
That was an amazing video thank u for sharing and I will definitely put that on my list of roads to do ride safe and ur an amazing person
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you. :)
Always a great video and beautiful scenery only second to your own - ride safe and stay strong
thank you!
That was great, I ride the trail myself about 40 years ago
Great video Staci. Looks like a fun ride. Ride Safe
Thanks Sharon!
Another banger, Staci! I love the pacing of your videos, and I always learn something from them. I need to do more exploring! ✌️
Thank you! Gotta get out there and do some 'splorin'!
Man that food looks great ! ... Great trip...
another great ride & vid mate....cheers
thanks as always, Trev!
Absolute top class video Trace, man that food looked awesome, keep on ridin 🇦🇺🇺🇸
Thanks, Greg!
Used to live outside of Jackson and have ridden the trace on my bike several times. Best ride!
Love these types of videos
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Love you. You eat and enjoy the places you stop at😊. Great trip gives me some where to try. Keep safe. Thank you for telling us all about these wonderful places.🎅🏼🏍🇺🇸🤗🤗🤗
thank ya!
Thanks for the memories! I did this ride in early May of '19, saw much of what you covered. I had lunch at the Frog Head Grill in Clinton MS and also spent the night in Tupelo completing the Trace the following day. I had time to get to Knoxville for the night. Then the next two days were spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in to VA. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work and I love the food and reviews!
Rad! Sounds like a great trip! And, thank you!
Excellent video. Nashvillian here and a retiree that got my 1st bike last year and have been riding the Natchez Trace on the northern end. It’s a great road to ride but I’ve since found a number of great backroads to get down to Leiper’s Fork that are just as good if not better to ride. I know East Tennessee is famous for the tail of the dragon and all and I’m sure it’s great riding over there. But Middle Tennessee has some great roads to check out too. You do great work and I’m going to have to dig into your channel and see some more. Be safe!
Hi from Tennessee! Thank you for highlighting this 💎! I’ve done the Trace twice on a Honda PCX 125 and parts on my Africa Twin. Gotta go back now for the food I missed.
Awesome!! I gotta go back for the food I missed, too! haha. Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Nice one Traci! Thanks for a great tour. I keep getting things added to my “to ride” list watching your channel 😅
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always, thank you for taking us along! Really enjoyed the background music. I don't know how difficult it is to put these videos together, editing, sound overlay, etc.,but thank you. Enjoyed the shots of the landmark signs that were in focus. Able to pause and read. Means alot to me and others that may never ride again. Appreciate you and all your videos. Bummer about the dry brisket... Awesome about the F.G.T. BLT! Glad you had so many good groceries! Be safe. Look out for the idiots! Keep on!
Thank you! This video took about a day or two of research and planning, 2.5 days of filming, plus 4 full days to edit, maybe 5. I kinda stopped counting lol!
Glad to see that you ate at 2 of my favorite spots. The Neon Pig and Lovelace Cafe. Don't forget about Marshal Steak house outside of Byhalia, Ms. if you're ever near there.
I saw your story the other day about you trying to get this video down to 20-30 minutes. Just wanted to tell you that I’m down for 40-60 minutes! Lolllll. I cardio for that long & have noooo problem watching your videos the entire time! Thanks for another great video & more bucket list spots ! 🖤
lol!!! thank you so much! have fun gettin' that workout in! :)
Grew up close to Cahokia in Illy. My Dad would can preserve green tomatoes so we could fry some up in the dead of winter. He would say, Nobody else in Illinois is eating fried green tomatoes in January! He was a nut! Love your channel!
Haha that’s awesome!
Thank you for this !! It is always a pleasure to ride along with you! I live in Natchez Trace Village in Madison, MS. across from the Overlook. I ride the Trace pretty much every day. We have a little trail from the neighborhood to the Trace, I can be there in about two minutes! My early morning or late afternoon chill down ride. It is always peaceful and beautiful no matter when you ride it really. Be safe girl, we dig you !!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Well shot, edited, and narrated as always.
thank you! put a ton of work into this one so I appreciate the kind words!
Gotta say, I'm subscibed to may motorcycle channels. Your channel is now my Number 1.
Easy to watch, love the destinations with the bit of history you provide and of course. the food. Especially the Southern Cuisine. My God. I need to head back south, for some of the best riding, food and folks. I'm just dying for something as simple as Chicken Fried Steak.
My only little gripe is, I'm always hungry after watching your videos. 🤣 Ride safe
hahaha! Thank you :)
I am so enjoying your ride videos that I have watched so far! My brother is a huge motorcycle guy, while I just got a new 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata GT RF and have already put it through its paces on the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Diamondback, etc and am looking forward to many more drives. He has shared about thirty of his favorite rides around the country and I have a notebook already getting full of maps, plans and details for all the places on my bucket list of drives. Your explanations, tips and especially reviews of places to stop for good food (I'm with you there!) are the best. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these very well made videos. Looking forward to learning a lot from you that I can use when I follow in my soul red Miata! Be safe and enjoy.
Love it!! Thanks for following along 😊
great vid, my buddy and I rode it about 7 years ago good oi see the familiar sites with you in them!
Very cool!
I love Nacho!! Spent a lot of time there working. My former company had a business there. Many of pints consumed at Magnolia Grill. ( hopefully it’s still open) they also had some great fish on the menu. Pan fried wild red fish and a blackened Tuna were fantastic!!
Haha it was open two months ago as seen in the video
I've got two days on the Trace planned for next April and while my biggest concern is definitely that heat and humidity, I'm certainly not looking forward to the mosquitos. Fingers crossed that my mesh gear, some Sawyer repellant, and treating my gear with permethrin will be enough. Neon Pig and Loveless Cafe are on the list, and of course I've highlighted a few historic spots on my map as must-see stops. Waze and Rever will constantly be running so I don't miss any of them. Planning for all the Sunday closures in the South is also a bit of an unfamiliar challenge for me but I'm sure I'll get along fine.
Thanks for another fantastic video, looking forward to the blog post!
Great video! This is one of my bucket list rides. As always, love your content. Keep the shiny side up!
Thank you! It's definitely a good one to knock off the list. Not the most scenic but I (obviously) enjoyed the heck out of it! The lack of traffic was definitely nice lol
@@ridetofood i absolutely believe you!
@@ridetofood honest question for you... What bug spray works best for you? I stayed overnight once in Longview Texas, and I had an anthill decide to move in behind my headlight overnight where I was camping. That was a fun time. Thanks
@@BoringFisherman oh dang lol! I usually carry a little bottle of Ben's with me but I have never really dealt with ant infestations to be honest
love your bike and your setup well done.
thank you!
This one is on my list. Just came back from Skyline Drive and Big Meadows, Rt 33, Mt Airy, Blue Ridge and the Diamondback on my way to Maggie Valley. Maybe the Trace this fall - north to south from just outside of Raleigh, or south to north 🤔 Awesome video - you’re a great tour guide 👍
It's funny you mention deer, as we hit one on the Blue Ridge Pkwy last Saturday (2010 Electra Glide Ultra Classic.) We were only going about 35 mph, and we stayed upright, but it's in the shop now to fix the fender, turn signal, and lower fairing. Stay safe!
oh dang, glad it was low-ish speed and it turned out to be best case scenario all things considered
Cool enjoy your adventures hope you can can back to Montgomery Al soon
Great video and such beautiful scenery.
Thank you!
You are very welcome
Mybwife and i are gonna ride it the other direction since we live in Jackson, TN, well catch it from TN and head south. Looks like a good ride 😀
I think y'all will have lots of fun! As long as you don't do it in the middle of the summer lol!
Loveless Cafe is awesome. My parents used to live just outside of Nashville. We have been too Loveless a few times. I drove my parents on a trip on the Natchez Trace starting in Nashville. Want to do it on a motorcycle someday. Fall would be the best time for that with the leaves changing.
yep, mentioned that in the video! :)
Really cool video...!!!
Thanks Kevin!!
Another amazing video Staci, thanks for sharing. Loveless Cafe was one of my favorites in Nashville. Next time you're in Nashville you definitely need to visit Pancake Pantry.
adding it to my list! Thank you :)
Good video Staci, that banana dessert looked nice. 😉
It was fire! 🔥 thank ya!!
Nice video good work
Thank ya!
Catching up on your videos after a road trip through Montana. Alway Great to see your well produced videos. Planning to travel Oregon/Washington later so I will be checking your website for recommendations for routes and food. 😎👍
That’s an area I don’t get to visit very often, unfortunately! Haven’t been back since 2016 but hopefully in 2025 I’ll get to go back!
Well then maybe I will send you our recommendations and route maps and you can check them out. 😄
I ride the “Trace” every week for work in Natchez. You definitely have to check out the Natchez Brewery next time. They make all of their pizza and sauce in house. Just north of a Jackson is a place called the Ratliff Ferry. A big biker destination here with live music and good food. Such a fun road for us bikers for sure, let alone the history.
Yes! Those are both on my map already that I mentioned in the video. Natchez Brewery was closed - I was supposed to go there but no dice. Ratliff was a "maybe i'll stop" but wasn't high on my priority list for this adventure. I can see it being a hot spot on a weekend, for sure!
I go there to Ratliff ferry all the time, it is very nice Hang out with a little restaurant gas and a lot of interesting people riding their bikes up the trace.
Great content….love the motorcycle and food combo….my favortire two things as well…hoping to ride the Trace the other way and continue to New Orleans for crawfish and beignets!!! BTW great job on the bike build….
thank you! I was in Louisiana on a foodie tour of sorts before this (see the video before this), so I had the same plan as you! lol
😂😂 also… my pull out game is weak!! 😂😂 sorry, couldn’t help it… when you mentioned no place to stop on the side of the road/ no pull outs!
🤦🏼♀️
Love the restaurant that u went to in Natchez. Love riding the trace too.
That bread they serve with the meals (or at least it came with my shrimp) was SO good! I’d definitely go back lol
Great video, i’ve been in that area on mississippi River but Never on Road on Trace, would love to see elvis home place. good info ! 👍
I love Thrashin Supply. I also like this channel too. My wife doesn’t really like watching UA-cam with me, but she does like to watch your channel and wants to go the places you go.
Haha I’m glad the wifey tunes in!!! 😊🤘
I love this road/National Park. Looking forward to riding/driving it again. National Park folks EV charging is a must. Make it happen.
Thank you for sharing, Ride Free
Glad you enjoyed it!
About 20 years ago I rode the Trace north from Natchez but got stuck behind a big RV and I was soon bored to death. No where to pass and they were going about 40 MPH. I planned to do it in a month or so, but a minor heart attack and a stent cut that plan off. Elvis's birthplace was a really cool place to visit.
ope! maybe one day!
@@ridetofood Oh trust me I WILL make the ride. Beat cancer so this is a minor set back. Did a slow 4 corners ride back in 2017. US-2 from Maine west is a beautiful road.
McGlamery Stand is in my high school home town, Collinwood, TN!
I would have had no idea there was a town nearby had I not just looked this up on Apple Maps lol! So wild how far away you feel from everything when you’re on the trace, but civilization is quite literally around the corner!
Awesome video!! As much as you love music stops, I'm surprised you didn't stop by muscle shoals on your way through Alabama. Highly recommend if you haven't, especially if you're a Rolling Stones fan. Great content!! I always look forward to watching you even though I get jealous lol
It’s a little further off the parkway than what I was trying to focus on on this trip lol
Great video, as always. I am pretty sure you put more "dirt" miles on that gravel road than most real ADV bikes do. haha
ADVs are just fancy Starbucks scooters, or at least that’s what the BMW boys say. 🤪
I did pretty much the same trip last year, but wish this video had been out then so I could have taken advantage of the food stops! I went earlier and was treated to lots of dogwood blooms on the southern section.
I’m glad you enjoyed your trip!!
I wonder how old that huge tree is at the Sunken Trace? The Pig and Pint is “known” for the Mac n Cheese. When we planned our trip to the area my non-meat eating friend wanted to make sure we went there for the MnC. The eyes on that first bite of fries. I know you worked hard to get this down to about 1/2 hour and you did an amazing job. Another GREAT video from Ride To Food. Very inspiring.
I wondered the same thing about the trees! Definitely gotta go back for that Mac. Shew!
As always, thank you!!😊🤘
damn, this was a good one Staci! me and my buddies will be down that way in Sept, were definately gonna have to check out some of those spots, unsure how much of the trace though, on our way home were going to the "crossroads", as a music lover you should know what that is lol. I definately want some of those fried green tomatos! 🍻
Oh nice! Sounds like the Blues Trail is in your future!!
Great video thank you I road the trace in 4 days speed limit is 45 not 46. Thanks again cheers to ya
Sounds like you had a nice conversation with the ol' cherry n berry boys
Best meal on my partial Trace ride was some Cajun style boiled peanuts, a bottle of water and a rest area all to myself.
Haha awesome!
That was on my plans last year, but it did not happen. Maybe in 2027 I will pick it up on my Southwest trip. Northeast this year and Northwest next year is the plan. Great video!!!
I love that you do different sections of the country each year! great way to do it! And, thank you! :)
@@ridetofood Yes. Trying to get all the states (except Alaska and Hawaii) on the motorcycle with my daughter. I think she is about your age; trying to get her on her own motorcycle (someday)... these trips as they are, are priceless. Keep up the great work. (Melissa)
Brilliant, another amazing video dry brisket not a fan lol
Today we learned a valuable lesson 🤣 NO LEAN BRISKET! hahah, thanks for watching!
Great video. You missed the actual cave springs though. If you followed the paved foot path around to the right you’ll see an unpaved trail which leads to a big cavern with the spring/ mini pond inside.
I filmed enough I think. Thanks 🤣
I know your pain about the heat. I rode the Trace about 2-3 years ago in July and it was hot, hot, hot.
shew I bet!
Wow. I live close to Tupelo. Hate I didn't see you. Great video! I got a little uneasy seeing that person walking up behind you, ha. Good advice to not ride it at night. I travel the Trace a good bit, but if I'm riding at night, I'll go out of my way to stay off of it. WAY too many deer.
I knew that dude was there. He had been there long before y’all saw him in the video waiting on his kids lol
Ratliff ferry on the trace is 50 miles north of jackson ms at mile marker 125,,major biker hangout on the river ,great food
I know. It’s on that map I mentioned in the video 😎
They also have gas and great bbq,,maybe next time through..
I live in Central Mississippi and I’ve rode up the natchez trace many times and camped at Merriweather Lewis Park. I camp with my hammock and it is very nice there. I usually go up the trace on Memorial Day weekend. Yes you should have stopped at French camp. It is very nice. Got a nice little restaurant good food
That campground does look great for hammock camping!
@@ridetofood I've met a lot of nice people out on the trace camping. There are three free places to camp with water. I'm wanting to go back out west, to Montana and Wyoming this year. I did 5 years ago, and pictures just don't do it justice. Be safe and God bless!
BUC EES!!! lol. Seen the lip chap 🦫
I was wondering who would notice!! hahaha their chap stick is SO good!
Mississippi is a really underrated state. I loved living near Oxford and wish I didn’t move back to Indiana.
to be fair I think any state is better than Indiana. I feel for you! I have spent more time on corn field island than i'd like to admit hahaahahah
@@ridetofood 😂🤣 I absolutely agree! I’m in central IN so it’s corn and beans as far as you can see. Little Nashville, Bloomington area is the only decent spot I have.
If you’ve never been, check out turkey run state park or clifty falls if you just want to go hiking! Brown county is cool too for what it is
@@ridetofood I’m surprised you know of Turkey Run and BC! I’ve never been to Clifty falls though so I’ll check it out. Did you visit 36 Saloon in Rockville while you were there?! It’s one of my favorite places to ride to.
The amount of times you said "moist brisket" 😂
hope you were playing a drinking game!
Hahahhahah😂😂😂 I love that. Check out this helmet hair brought to you by the humidity in MS.
😂💁🏼♀️
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻what else can I say Staci
Thanks Wayne!
How do you not fall asleep riding after eating those great meals ? ! ... lol.
lots of water I guess lol!
