  • Riding my 2021 Honda CRF300L Rally 1000 miles in one day. After completing the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route I had to ride 1000 miles in a day in order to get to work the next day. This video follows my road trip from Richfield Utah, to the Great Salt Lake, to Twin Falls Idaho, through Oregon, into Washington, over the Cascade Mountains and finally to Everett Washington.

That’s what I said!! Truly awesome!
I barely had 1000mi on my ADV150 after having it for 7mos! To be fair, it was in the shop for almost 3mos, so I didn’t get to actually get to enjoy riding until I got it back. Got right over 7k miles right now, but don’t plan on putting over 15k on it considering I want to sell it after I pay it off and get me the CRF300L next year 😉
Had some douche say to me, “Wow 7k miles isn’t anything to brag about” and I was like well duh dipsht
I want to resell it (considering you usually get less value on a trade in) & our winter here in TN was awful so 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣

Well, one of the good things about the CRF300 is that it is geared high and has a sixth gear, so it can do highway pretty well. I used to have a DRZ400, and the close-ratio 5-speed trans. was a pain on the highway, bike was always screaming even at 65mph. I sold it and got a DR650, which is MUCH nicer on the highway and doesn't even break a sweat cruising at 80mph.

Wasn't it awesome in some of those areas where there was no sign of life in the hills. Salt Lake City had some crazy drivers there also. I made a special trip during busy hours to get to the Olympic Oval to skate my first long track indoor ice. Ventured to Missouri for a wedding, Wisconsin to visit family and bring someone back home. Big rink in Milwaukee also. and then the big drive back home to Camano Island. Those of you that can handle that kind of mileage have my respect. That's some hard riding. :)

Thanks this brings back memories as I have traveled over some of these roads.
In 2010 I flew from Sydney Australia to San Francisco.
I then picked up a hire Harley Davidson Ultra Glide and rode of to the rally in Sturgis SD.
So a list of some of the towns, city's etc I traveled through, Carson City, Ely, West Wendover, Salt Lake City, Rawlins, Casper, Gillet, Sturgis.
At Sturgis camped at there Buffalo Chip, saw Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Pee-wee Herman plus other bands a great melting pot Stugis.
Going back to San Francisco was Spearfish, Gillette, Buffalo, Yellowstone Park, Idaho Falls, Boise, Burns, Bend, Eugine, Coos Bay then down H15 to pick up old highway 1 through the old giant redwoods then SF to catch a plane back to Australia. On the last day I covered over 500 miles and still got to see all the sights on my bucket list.
    Take car you all.

Wow, nice ride & very similar to what I did a few years back. And lots of people say you need a big cruiser to do those miles. I was on a F650CS single and took off from Spokane Wa, (BMW Rally) about 5am to near Napa Ca, about 980 miles in about 15 hours. I tried to keep it as fast as possible (about 75 mph) without getting pulled over. It took about 6 fillups & I averaged 63 mpg for the trip. I had absolutely no problems except very sore inner thighs from the seat. I have an 800 twin now, but that single 650 was the best handling bike I ever owned and a pleasure to ride long distances or short. Next time I may try that little Honda. Thanks.

Summer of 1972 I did a similar ride on my Honda CB750-4 - Dallas, TX area to Phoenix, AZ (1100 miles) in 16 hours. All through Texas (the first half of the whole ride), I kept it at the speed limit of 70 mph, then I realized it was still morning, so went through NM trying to keep it below 100 mph. When I got to AZ, my butt was so sore that I just pinned it the rest of the way. Only time I dropped below 110 mph was to stop for gas, and in that stretch I was getting about 15 miles per gallon (instead of the normal 45!), so I was stopping about every fifty miles to fill it up. Pour some oil on the chain, and it just went up in smoke, the chain was so hot. Fun times, but I was young and invincible. Never do something that dumb again!
Well, except that one time in Pennsylvania when I blew past a highway patrol doing about 120. But he was stopped and out of his car checking on something ... but that's a story for another time!

How were you loaded for this trip? It looks like just a duffle on a tail rack. That seems like a light setup for BDR’s, which usually consists of a lot of camping. Did you skip camping and all the camp gear to hotel it?

    • @TrekEthos
      @TrekEthos  2 роки тому +9

Thanks for the thoughtful comment👍🍻 You are correct - I'm carrying very little gear. A lot of the tank bag & drybag on the rear is actually carrying film equipment to make the videos. I basically had food, water, tools, & and an extra pair of clothes - That's it. I've never actually traveled like this until I got this bike (I'd usually split between camping & hotel). The reason I run the bike this way is because the bike is barely powerful enough to work ok on the Highway - If I were to mount panniers in the airstream I honestly don't think I would be able to keep up with traffic on 75mph highways. The soft suspension also becomes more problematic the more weight you add to the bike. One of the cons of traveling like this though is that you have to be much more deliberate with your schedule, you can't just stop and camp for the night anywhere you want. Ride safe buddy👍
