Nice to see that even though Xerneas may have been more powerful (especially in Gen 6), Yveltal still has just as much, if not, more promise in the later gens - from being the best Incineroar partner to becoming the best Caleryx Shadow check
Though, Xerneas got the Geomancy and Fairy typing is incredible in it's own regard, I always thought of Yveltal to be superior of the two. See, their stat spread is extremely cracked even by Ubers standards and Yveltal was better poised to take advantage of these stats. They have mixed attacking stats and Yveltal had some of the best damn moves to throw out with them, Dark Aura boosted Dark Pulse, Knock Off, Priority in Sucker, Snarl for Substitute, Foul Play for Defensive sets, Oblivion Wing, and Uturn. Xerneas doesn't have the movepool to go physical, it really only ever runs Moonblast so even it's Fairy Aura is kinda limited and it doesn't have secondary stab. In regards to their defensive stats, Yveltal with Roost, Knock Off, Foul Play, Snarl, Sucker, Uturn Defog, Toxic etc. was just much more versatile than Xern stuck using RestTalk, Moonblast, Toxic/Defog/Aromatherapy. In short Yveltal, always was gifted with much better movepool that made it was much more versatile than Xern while Xern was more one dimensional. So Xern viability was always dependent on how powerful was that one thing it did in the current metagame while Yveltal could adapt itself to do what fit best in the metagame.
Fun fact, Yveltal & Xerneas are the first legendary mascots since Ruby & Sapphire that aren't dragon type. This continued with Sun & Moon, & Sword & Shield, having eventually being broken with Scarlet & Violet.
Yveltal has always been my favorite of the Aura Trio. It's got high stats, a great signature move, diverse move set, & a badass design. Plus, it's a superb Dark type in a generation where they got rocked!
Yveltal also had a very short-lived niche in ORAS while Mega Ray was around, able to *always* go at least 1 for 1 with it, so long as you were able to keep rocks off of the field. Mega Ray's attack stat was so hilariously high that Banded sets got cleanly ohko'd by Foul Play, as well as any DD set that got to +1, and with a rocky helmet, even neutral foul plays were able to ko it with the chip.

Yeah but gen 6 is the performance of fairy type Pokémon that why they give xerneas only fairy type which make it overpower other 2 even zygarde who is the strongest of aura trio
Yveltal held Gen 8 Ubers together so strongly that when Gen 9 rolled around and Calyrex-S appeared without the corresponding Yveltal, Calyrex-S INSTANTLY got banned from Ubers.
I've been looking forward to this video for sometime, and then you release it on my birthday?! FSG rocks! Thanks to Kellen and Co. for an awesome b-day present🎉
While I acknowledge that Xerneas was definitely the bigger offensive threat, I just love Yveltal so much more lol. Pokemon Y was the game that got me back into the series after like 7 years and even though it admittedly was not the best pokemon game, the XYZ legendary trio is probably still my fav. I was actually having a lot of fun with a bulky assault vest Yveltal set in swsh and it's really too bad that the trio was left out of scarlet and violet since they could've been insane with tera.
Yveltal is such a funny pokemon. Gets released alongside a fairy uber who should crush it every time, and still becomes a top tier uber pokemon, even able to scare said fairy because of how weak it is to knock off. Then a new gen comes out witha bunch of insane monsters get released to the tier, and who comes to the rescue? The black bird. Tanking stuff like stone edge from P.Groundon or dd boosted aeralite double edge from mega salamance is insane. And when you think it couldnt get any better, the next gen drops out with even more insane threats and by the end of it Yveltal has 90% usage. NINETY PERCENT. The evil bird of death turned out to be the one keeping us alive from Ubers insane monsters xD
I'm not kidding, Yveltal is probably my favorite Pokémon when it comes to actually using the thing. I play singles 99.9% of the time, and in any Ubers or AG metagame that has Yveltal, I'll be using it. I usually run Life Orb or Boots with Sucker Punch, Dark Pulse, Oblivion Wing, and Heat Wave, Tera Fire on Gen 9 ND Ubers on Showdown. That sucker punch has saved my ass more than I can remember. But it's so versatile that it can be supportive, physically offensive, specially offensive, defensive. It does it all.
Yveltal's Oblivion Wing is the most efficient HP draining move, with 75% of the damage dealt converted to health. That amount could be bumped up to 97.5% with the Big Root item, allowing Yveltal to convert nearly all the damage dealt into recoverable health.
Even with yveltal existing, I feel like Calyrex-Shadow should've been banned from ubers from the start and not having to wait until gen 9 to kick it out of the tier.
Offensive types that aren't resisted by steel tend to be vicious, and dark is no exception to that once steel couldn't resist it anymore, which also happens to be Yveltal's debut generation. The only resists to it are fighting, dark, and fairy, and the former is weak to flying.
I actually used Yveltal as a Zacian counter, surprising I know. But Yveltal could actually survive Swords Dance Play Rough from Zacian while Dynamxed pretty well. With Heat Wave (Max Flare), it always OHKOs, even if not Dynamxed it still OHKOd.
These two legendaries really added to why I loved X and Y so much, and I honestly really miss Yveltal because it was one of my favorite legendaries of all time. As a casual Pokemon player, the thing I always like in my Pokemon is when they have a strong STAB attack that restores their health and Yveltal was the first legendary that I can remember who's signature move had this effect. It's one of the reasons why Ceruledge has become one of my favorite Pokemon (along with that awesome design) and I really want to see more Pokemon like this in the future or at the very least BRING YVELTAL BACK PLEEEEASE!!!
Life is something you have to fight to keep going, and death knows you can't fight it, so it doesn't have to go all out offensively. I am 13 and this is deep
Yveltal was always my favorite legendary and its so nice to see him thrive in the competitive setting, I really thought the Xerneas matchup made him less strong but what a surprise that he actually stands a fight with it
I remember when the need to stop Calyrex-Shadow Rider was so high in Ubers, people started running full SpDef Yveltal and in turn Calyrex started running Draining Kiss. Good times.
Yveltal was the carry of my first and favorite VGC team during the 1 restricted season of Sw/Sh. Ran weakness policy with ice shard alolan ninetales so after a turn of setup, the two of them could just wipe the opponent while sitting pretty behind aurora veil
Glad to see Yveltal being so good since I actually much prefer its design to Xerneas. I've never been great in competitive battling, but I have had a lot of success and a lot of fun terrorizing random players online with Yveltal's fantastic versatility.
Agreed, I always liked Yveltal it may have a fairly generic design but I always found it to be very fitting as the embodiment of death XY made it out to be. To see it’s done so damn is really nice to see especially when Fairy’s are fucking everywhere in Ubers.

I found my darkness team as my preferred one, but still, Fairy is a good type.
9:38 Ayo, 🅱️ro just dropped the sickest Competitive Pokémon Tongue Twister like it was nothing.
I was always fascinated by Yveltal. I love its design and its power, despite my never competing!
My favorite legendary mon in design, name and lore. Such a cool mon and how important it is to the metagame is icing on the cake!
Xerneas really should have been fairy grass or something weak to flying so it was equal with yevltal in type match ups
Yeah, it learns Horn Leech anyway
Yeah but gen 6 is the performance of fairy type Pokémon that why they give xerneas only fairy type which make it overpower other 2 even zygarde who is the strongest of aura trio
Yveltal is one of my favorite newer Pokémon designs. Awesome to see how great it is
Xerneas was murdering the competitive scene and Yveltal was there going “you’re doing great”
Yveltal was always my personal favorite of the Gen 6 legendary trio. His design is cool, his lore is badass and he’s a monster in battle.
I always appreciate the alliteration in this series! It’s such a fun addition to the already great format 😁
And now we know why he was not in Scarlet and Violet. He will be back in his own region in 2025.
He may get a new for or something like primal Palkia and I’m hyped up
Yveltal held Gen 8 Ubers together so strongly that when Gen 9 rolled around and Calyrex-S appeared without the corresponding Yveltal, Calyrex-S INSTANTLY got banned from Ubers.
I've been looking forward to this video for sometime, and then you release it on my birthday?! FSG rocks! Thanks to Kellen and Co. for an awesome b-day present🎉
Pretty incredible how in singles Yveltal has very definitely been better than Xerneas. You just wouldn't think it on first glance
One of the best designed uber, very strong but without absurd boosting trait like Zacian Crowned or Calyrex. Just fun to use and very cool
Yveltal and ho-oh are pretty similar in that they hit extremely hard and have incredible longevity
The ear to ear smile I had plastered on my face the entire time I was watching this was akin to that of a child on Christmas morning. Thank you, FSG.
Yvetal is so 🐐 and am so glad you did a video on it
I'm not kidding, Yveltal is probably my favorite Pokémon when it comes to actually using the thing.
Just to add to your list, in 2022, I had won the SLC regionals with yveltal in the seniors division
“Yveltal continued its wonderful friendship/potential budding romance(?) with Incinaroar in gen 8 VGC…”
Please never change, guys.
I bought Pokemon Y after a long hiatus and was delightfully surprised to receive this beast as the signature pokemon. I love Yveltal!
Finally you have released a new video!
Yveltal's Oblivion Wing is the most efficient HP draining move, with 75% of the damage dealt converted to health. That amount could be bumped up to 97.5% with the Big Root item, allowing Yveltal to convert nearly all the damage dealt into recoverable health.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS WOOOOOOOO
Even with yveltal existing, I feel like Calyrex-Shadow should've been banned from ubers from the start and not having to wait until gen 9 to kick it out of the tier.
Dragalge, magcargo, drifblim or rotom and all of his forms! 💪💪💪
Offensive types that aren't resisted by steel tend to be vicious, and dark is no exception to that once steel couldn't resist it anymore, which also happens to be Yveltal's debut generation. The only resists to it are fighting, dark, and fairy, and the former is weak to flying.
Good to see that my favorite Pokémon had such a crazy impact on the competitive scene
It's one of the reasons why Ceruledge has become one of my favorite Pokemon (along with that awesome design) and I really want to see more Pokemon like this in the future or at the very least BRING YVELTAL BACK PLEEEEASE!!!
that ghost horse cant escape the power of two dark/flying birds, thanks Yvetal and Mandibuzz for making life a bit more bearable(ironically)
Life is something you have to fight to keep going, and death knows you can't fight it, so it doesn't have to go all out offensively. I am 13 and this is deep
Yveltal was always my favorite legendary and its so nice to see him thrive in the competitive setting, I really thought the Xerneas matchup made him less strong but what a surprise that he actually stands a fight with it
Y was when I got back to Pokémon after a long time away, so this video strikes several nostalgia buttons for me
No other Pokémon will ever be a perfect answer to Calyrex-S than Yveltal.
I remember when the need to stop Calyrex-Shadow Rider was so high in Ubers, people started running full SpDef Yveltal and in turn Calyrex started running Draining Kiss. Good times.
Very appropriate how the only thing stopping an all-powerful ghostly apparition is death itself
Aw snap, we getting Zygarde next, arent we?
Yveltal was the carry of my first and favorite VGC team during the 1 restricted season of Sw/Sh. Ran weakness policy with ice shard alolan ninetales so after a turn of setup, the two of them could just wipe the opponent while sitting pretty behind aurora veil
Another example of why official pronunciation shouldn't be taken seriously
Glad to see Yveltal being so good since I actually much prefer its design to Xerneas. I've never been great in competitive battling, but I have had a lot of success and a lot of fun terrorizing random players online with Yveltal's fantastic versatility.
Agreed, I always liked Yveltal it may have a fairly generic design but I always found it to be very fitting as the embodiment of death XY made it out to be. To see it’s done so damn is really nice to see especially when Fairy’s are fucking everywhere in Ubers.
This is how you make a legendary duo dammit. Not having one be so op it makes the other one usable.
One of the big 3 has arrived
Yveltal Shiny looks so cool is like a skeleton imposing bird
Until someone came up and said
*"Bacon Bird 🥓 🦅"*
Now i can't unsee that
