I'm very nostalgic about Feraligatr. It was my first pokemon I had ever trained to reach level 100 in Soul Silver. Had Waterfall, Earthquake, Crunch and Ice Fang.
I don't think feraligatr was ever the most popular starter in gen 2. I think it was a solid tie between feraligatr and typhlosion. Typhlosion was always super popular.
I am amazed by Feraligatr's performance. I am more impressed how gatr was able to use Torrent so effectively. Most starters do not have the ability to use Torrent, Overgrow, or Blaze like Feraligatr. There is always something they lack to wield the ability effectively.

I've always wanted to make a team of crocodilians and call it Gator Gang. Feraligatr, Krookodile, Skeledirge and Garchomp (honorary member). No idea who would fill out the last two spots.
as someone who mains gsc uu, gatr is absolutely a viable choice in the modern metagame and has unique wallbreaking potential not replicated by other waters in the tier. access to water stab and quakeslide coverage + screech allows it to hit everything but the rare grass types hard neutrally. it comes in freely vs common bulky mons like blastoise, and has plenty of turns to regain leftovers by clicking screech and forcing switches. it checks both nidoqueen and piloswine relatively well, even w/o rest, can 1v1 gyara in a pinch, checks scyther with its good bulk and rock slide, can pose a serious threat to granbull and pinsir with its stab hydro pump, and can cleave through bulky electrics with eq. it's not as easily autopiloted as a lot of other waters in the tier, but is most definitely worth using in a tournament setting. as others have said already, I think you guys have undersold gatr in your gen 2 coverage, and I hope next time you cover a gen 2 uu mon, appropriate research will be done to more accurately represent the meta as it is in 2023 and beyond.
Life orb, sheer force, dragon dance sets have the possibility to be pretty good in one of the lower tiers when Feraligatr returns. The Tera meta game can possibly make it harder to remove.
Feraligatr not only has the greatest bakery in pokemon sprites. But he got enough tools to be useful each generation, without fancy transformations, signature moves or forms, just goes to show how good a pokemon can be by just being himself
I can see Feraligatr doing good in the 9th generation (since all starters are coming to the indigo disk). Pair it up with Prankster Grimmsnarl and terastilizing it could make it a menace to the lower tiers.
I feel like Feraligatr's gonna be a huge threat when Indigo Disk drops. I've heard rumors it may end up getting Scale Shot, which would be broken as hell on it, especially in combination with Swords Dance.
@@bulborb8756 I actually just looked it up, and Scale Shot isn't on the list of moves affected by Sheer Force, making it a potentially devastating combination on that set! Wave Crash/Scale Shot/Ice Punch/Swords Dance for a solid set, maybe?

Feraligatr is one of my favorite pokemon because i saw my favorite youtube use it in a pokemon draft league. It was INCREDIBLE! As soon as i saw it live a Bolt Strike Victini, i knew that this mon is insane. I stsrted pretending to be the trainer during battle and i love saying to use dragon dance. Feraligatr has a very special place in my heart.
Feraligatr really does embody the animal he's based on scarily well. Alligators and Crocodiles have lived on our planet for millions of years having changed relatively little over the years. Feraligatr is the same. It just does what it always has. Pokemon tiers and teams may change around it but Feraligatr will always be there doing what it has for years. Let's just hope whenever it returns it goes back to what its always done before. Cause damage.
One of my favorite Pokémon in the entire series. One of my fondest memories as a kid was making it through SoulSilver all the way up to the battle with Red with primarily *just* Feraligatr, falling just short at the very end when it couldn’t beat his lead Pikachu (and even then, I probably couldn’t have beat the rest of his team on top of it.) It’s also one of several Pokémon with extra nostalgic impact on account of its appearances in and around Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, the game that kickstarted my entire interest in Pokémon in the first place.
Still my favorite starter after all these years later. It's a simple, reliable Mon that does what it can do pretty well. Coupled with a well-rounded design I think it best embodies the qualities of what makes a well-designed Starter Pokemon.
Feraligatr is my favorite Pokemon so I know how much of a monster it was. But it's just great to see my boy be so validated... Hopefully I see it get flip turn and wave crash!
Out of the Johto starters, Feraligatr is the best one for both in-game and competitive (even in the lower tiers, with a small niche in OU if the meta is favorable). In the Johto games, you get the Surf HM ridiculously earlier compared to other games, letting Feraligatr roll with Surf as its Water STAB (even coming off of its lower Special Attack) for the rest of the game, although it does get Aqua Tail pretty late in the remakes. It doesn't have too many bad matchups either; Clair may be a bad matchup on paper, but Feraligatr can simply brute force its way with Crunch (and Ice Fang on the Dragonair). In competitive, Sheer Force Waterfall/Liquidation is its main claim to fame although it does face competition from Gyarados and it ranks higher than it in the BD/SP OU viability rankings.
One big takeaway from this video is that Feraligatr was one of the rare starters that really took advantage it's base ability as Torrent did ALOT for it during Gens RSE to XY. That's a pretty impressive feat in of itself that puts him up there with the likes of Belly Drum Charizard and a few other starters I'm sure I've missed. Also it's pretty rad that in the wonky format that was BDSP singles Gatr surpassed Gyarados and became OU. Currently he's sitting in RU but I have hope he may return to UU somewhere down the road. Always believe in LaserGatr.
Ah yes, the best gator. He may have a tough rivalry with that pissy water snake, but he makes up for it with sheer (force) tenacity and a toothy, game-winning smile. He'll always be top starter for me
Oh good, I was waiting for this one personally! Back in DPPT I was stubborn and refused to give up my precious Gatr over the more favored Gyarados. I managed to make it work to some extent, but to my delight it only got better with Sheer Force. I lost all my older Pokemon unfortunately but you can bet your bottom dollar I'm breeding a competitive Totodile every chance i get
Hearing both Typhlosion and Feraligtr mentioned in this video makes you reaaal worried about the Meganium please give that mon a buff in the second gen 9 dlc
The boi got me through Whitney when all my friends cry they couldn't get pass Milktank. It was also the first shiny starter I ever hatch. I love this pokemon ❤❤
If Feraligatr were to finally receive the mega evolution form gator and the other Johto starter trio, Feraligatr could become a water/dragon type. Also is impressive Feraligatr improved within the generations, which is certainly a step up from Feraligatr’s previous review of his career in the competitive scene.
Ah, good to see these classic episodes remade in the modern style where it recongizes the lower tiers. Wouldnt mind a Pikachu & Raichu remake if that's not on the list yet 😊
Pokemon Gold was my first ever video game and Totodile was my starter choice, so I can definitely relate to the intro summary. I have a lot of love for that lil guy ❤
Feraligatr will always have a special place in my heart as the final evo of the pokemon I was given by the quiz in Explorers of Time, which was my first exposure to the series as a whole, truly my GOAT (gatr of all time)
I love how despite every kind of power creep, even the insane power creep known as gen 9, feraligatr is still incapable of staying legal in nu forever. It got banned from the tier a few months ago from me writing this comment, and it really is not surprising. It ripped through literally everything in the tier with reckless abandon.
Totodile is my first Pokemon from my first Pokemon game, HeartGold. Seeing the word "Great" on his competitive history puts a huge smile on my face. My favorite water starter.
Totodile being one of my first starters alongside Samurott, I'm glad to see that my beautiful baby boy had a history so good that it's considered a great one, even in lower tiers and beyond If only someday we get a treatment the same as my girl Samurott got and he gets a regional form better than ever
It was the same story for Feraligatr for every subsequent Generation, following IV: "It fell in the tiering rung, and proceeded to DOMINATE its new opposition! Then it rose back up to DOMINATE even more opposition!" - It's oddly heartwarming. Especially since we're talking about a Starter Pokemon, and we always want to see them do well. Sorry, Meganium...
The weirdest thing about Feraligatr i found out recently is that in Explorers of Sky, it's a member of the Defender IQ skill group, instead of being in the Aggressor group. I assume this is because all the other water starters are in that group, but it doesn't make it any less weird that a 'mon with Feral in it's name and that looks like that would be more defense oriented.
Totodile was the first Pokemon I got in the first video game I ever played! And then later in life, Feraligatr was so consistently good that I ended up loaning it to a friend who was struggling with the HGSS E4. Riptide, youll always be the GOAT ✊
I played with Feraligatr back in like 2016-2017 when me and some friends were active in a Twitter pokemon league. We all were gym leaders and had a type specialty and used just those Pokemon, but like the gym leaders in the game we were allowed one that strayed from the type (I was dragon) and I always would use Feraligatr on a rain team with goodra and kingdra and it absolutely donked people. It also got severely donked in return but still, donking occurred.
Funny thing about Feraligatr, it was legitimately a very good Pokémon in BDSP OU when that meta was a thing.

Cant wait for Indigo Disc for Gatr to come back with Tera + Sheer force Life Orb, maybe a few new moves as well
Just watch, now GF is going to reveal regional variants for Meganium and Feraligatr for the DLC. Last minute hype for part 2 lol
Let’s go our Gator with the biggest cheeks with that back sprite!
Hearing both Typhlosion and Feraligtr mentioned in this video makes you reaaal worried about the Meganium please give that mon a buff in the second gen 9 dlc
The coolest gator (in my opinion) just got a remake and I'm all here for it
Its great hearing awesome things that happened to one my favorite starters besides Blaziken and Torterra.
The boi got me through Whitney when all my friends cry they couldn't get pass Milktank. It was also the first shiny starter I ever hatch. I love this pokemon ❤❤
Feraligatr is a good example why I love Water type Pokémon.
Totodile was the Johto starter I picked back in Gen 2. Glad to see Feraligatr did so well
I JUST finished watching the old one, wishing there was a new one. I click back home. Boom Feraligator notif.
Feraligatr will always be my glorious king
feraligatrs greatest nerf was game freak removing its dump truck
YEAH BABY, THAT'S WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR! THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT! WOOOOO!
I remember fighting Red with a level 25 Graveler and a level 93 Feraligatr. I captured all pokémon I saw and had no time to level them up.
One of my first shinies was a Totodile in either HG or SS. He became a great Feraligatr
Feraligatr will always have a special place in my heart as the final evo of the pokemon I was given by the quiz in Explorers of Time, which was my first exposure to the series as a whole, truly my GOAT (gatr of all time)
Feraligatr's sprite artworks throughout the gens are a bit of a rollercoaster.
This is why BDSP OU is one of my favorite metas.
I love how despite every kind of power creep, even the insane power creep known as gen 9, feraligatr is still incapable of staying legal in nu forever. It got banned from the tier a few months ago from me writing this comment, and it really is not surprising. It ripped through literally everything in the tier with reckless abandon.
I was waiting most of the video for the triumphant “and then it got access to Sheer Force!!”
I hope Feraligatr gain a regional variant as Water/Dragon allow to decent in doubles (electric types are everywhere in doubles go figure)
That be great.
Maybe in a pokemon legends: Kyurem/Zygarde
Just get a ground type or something with lightning rod
Electric types are not very common in S/V VGC. Regieleki is the only “great” one, and it’s like a c rank Pokémon RN.
Totodile is my first Pokemon from my first Pokemon game, HeartGold. Seeing the word "Great" on his competitive history puts a huge smile on my face. My favorite water starter.
Man we need that feraligtr butt back
Totodile being one of my first starters alongside Samurott, I'm glad to see that my beautiful baby boy had a history so good that it's considered a great one, even in lower tiers and beyond
If only someday we get a treatment the same as my girl Samurott got and he gets a regional form better than ever
I assume this is because all the other water starters are in that group, but it doesn't make it any less weird that a 'mon with Feral in it's name and that looks like that would be more defense oriented.
well for Gen 9, Scale Shot Loaded Dice Feraligator sounds kinda fun lol if it gets Scale Shot
Totodile was the first Pokemon I got in the first video game I ever played! And then later in life, Feraligatr was so consistently good that I ended up loaning it to a friend who was struggling with the HGSS E4.
Riptide, youll always be the GOAT ✊
Surprised we didn’t get another Quagsire intermission like last time lol
“How GREAT Was Floridaman Actually?”
We will be impatiently awaiting tera water sheer force life orb Feraligatr
I loved my Toto girl as a kid, and even more recently in some nuzlocke attempts. Seeing her have a "How GREAT" label just makes me smile.
Same thing with Typhlosion. Feraligatr is great in our hearts.
