Not a bad choice. Years ago I had a 99 and 00 Phazer 500s, great sleds with a better suspension than that one. I was out of sledding for about 5-10 years and recently went back to Arctic Cat. I now only run early / mid 90s Artic Cat Jags and Pumas w/ 340 and 440 fan cooled engines. They're so cheap and simple to repair! I buy Junkers of those models for $100 when they come up on marketplace for spare parts. I have 6 engines, multiple clutches and boxes of other misc parts. I only buy Hyfax and carbides new. Even the parts sleds I buy typically have 2 drive belts. I think I have about a dozen spare belts from those parts sleds. Nothing like a good running old sled, especially when everyone on the trail is giving you a thumbs up from their $15K machines.
@@anthonyg6221 maintenence goes a long way! have over 10,000 miles on one of my 98 vmax 700's and it just got to 100 psi accross all 3 cylinders. I am not easy on them either haha
Phazers are one of the best vintage sleds out there. Got one myself. As a precautionary measure I recommend you to replace or refurbish your fuel pump. A leaking fuel pump can cause the crank to seize.
its your choice but get rid of that primer and hook your choke up ..they always leak and if they can leak they can suck air wich is not good...i trick i learned running these carbs was take it around the house a few times and then turn it off and wait for a few mins ,, the heat will come out of the engine and warm up the carbs up...they say these carbs get crystals in the bowls and that will fix that ..that looks like an aaen pipe ..they sound pretty cool ...these are great sleds if you don't try to get 90 hp out of them ..they last forever stock ..some people when they put pipes on them forget to richen up the smaller jet ..the main jet is 2 sizes up from 143.8 ..i do like the 200 hp new sleds but no one is having more fun then these little sleds and you don't have to mortgage the house to afford them...
Phazer. Now we are talking! I am in NH as well. I have a factory service manual if you need any reference info hit me up. I also have a Phazer 2. Started as a 92 with same bodywork as yours. But frame was beyond repair so I found another frame and it became a mod phazer with an 90’s RmK 136 skid and some floorboards cut from a wrecked nytro. Very fun sled.

Try to see if you can restore the original plastic covers around the light, and handlebar, with the spedometer. This steering mod looks really homemade and crappy imo. I have one of these sleds, and I am planning to use the original steering stem, cutting it, and inserting a plug to make it longer. Doing this will preserve the original estetic, and functionality. I might need to get longer wires for the brakes, but that should be doable...
Ok You now have a Yamaha sled. Great . Here's a couple of things that you need to look out for! On the ski assembly. The front shock Pogo units are expensive too find so take care of them. The outer covers are over 100.00 EACH !! NO IM NOT KIDDING! The scissor pivots on the bottom of the pogos are prone too cracking or splitting along the bushings.AND THOSE ARE HARD TOO FIND AS COMPLETE ASSEMBLY'S. I know I have a 94 vmax 600 that needed everything I just said. Now I have a blast on my vmax
Had a 88 phazer deluxe as a kid. Was a blast for the day. Was technically my dad’s as I also ha an old 77’ range whip. Would love to add a Phazer to my collection someday.
92 Yamaha Phazer 2 ST! Shes got an Aaen Quiet Can pipe on it! Give me a shout if you need parts or want to just talk sleds. I'm a few hours north of you up here in Maine!
There fairly good sleds. The biggest pains are the carbs... they are not fun to clean. The other issue is these old Yamaha sleds are famous for oil pump failures.
The oil pumps on these are bulletproof from what I have read. A common issue that can cause oil pumps to fail pumping properly though is a poorly vented oil tank.
@@NewHampshireVintage Make sure you have bigger jets installed in the carb if you run pre-mix in these. Oil in the fuel increase viscosity making it tougher for the fuel to pass through. Otherwise you might damage the engine by running it lean.
thats great it starts!!!,it took a few turns to get her to beak off.clean up the solenoid contacts, and as well the starting motor itself gets gummed up and greasy.the bendix shaft could probably use a little tlc.the 2 long screws that hold the strter case together get corroded,a little dielectric grease works great to keep moisture from getting in through the screw heads.Great job diagnosing lights. put stainless 1/2-12 x 3 with nylon lock nuts and washers works awesome.easy to take off the seat when you clean the carbs.becareful with the erasure plug config in the carbs.
I’d definitely still send your clutches out to a professional like thunder product clutching here in Michigan and a fresh brand new belt 🤘🏼💪🏼 also put new bearing in the top and bottom drive shafts when you switch the track out 💪🏼
My friend keeps trying to sell his 91 st back to me but it's been sitting for 4-5 years in the shed. I'm always afraid of the what if's that come with that stuff.
Spend the extra few bucks and just put a set of capro skis razor s with 6" carbides. Will be shocked how much tighter it turns and drops almost 13lbs off the front end. That and a ripsaw makes them do anything you want without changing anything. V force 3 reeds liven it up a little more also.
the phazer 488 fan cooled has a tendacy of having the pilot jets hanging up and the primary clutch gumming up rather quick. other than that their a little screamer.
