  • The REAL reason Yamaha Quit Making Snowmobiles: private companies cannot compete with a nationalized industry that is diversified across so many other markets: BRP is funded by the Canadian Government. I talk a bit about the economy and some key factors that led to Yamaha's decision to exit the snowmobile industry. Cheers!

    I have owned Yamaha's my whole life and have never been stranded by them. I love my Yamaha's.

      Same here. Got over 40k miles between the wife and me with Apex/Attack/Vector machines. Average 10k per machine. Few quirks but nothing that leads to breakdowns on the trail.

      Guess u never owned a exciter or the late 70’s early 80’s srx the motors blew up all the time. The exploder was the nickname for exciter. The nytro was crap couldn’t make it through one cross country race without every weld breaking on the front end and rear suspension blowing out great engine though. Also very cold sled to ride and unpredictable rough riding sled with poor handling. I saw it with my own eyes many times during my 15 year race career not as well built as people think. Had a 2006 phaser engine was great but couldn’t keep rear suspension in it and rode like crap. On groomed trails it was a blast but get into some rough stuff very unpredictable even dangerous . Sorry but my cats can run a entire race season without breaking. Just one of many reasons cat dominates cross country racing is they don’t break. SX racing forget about it can’t even get one race out of a Yamaha without it totally destroying the sled. Yamaha 4 stroke engines r awesome reliable but the rest of the sleds not good. Best thing yamaha ever did team up with cat use the pro cross chassis. Best chassis they ever had in my opinion. been some good Yamahas like the SRV the older phasers and SRX. The old V max chassis were ok had good engines but again chassis left something to be desired. Its a shame Yamaha is going away but not really surprised either. Yamaha could of built one of the greatest snowmobiles in the world. With all the money technology the facilities they have idk why they didn’t. My opinion is they just didn’t care enough or they would of done more.
      Dont like the idea of Yamaha going away never good losing competition.
      But with the winters were having and Yamahas sales being so low probably smart on there end. Its to bad for cat the Yamaha engine in the thundercat is awesome and all the sleds cat built for Yamaha had to help production costs. One if my first snowmobiles was a 81 SRV loved that sled definitely sad to see Yamaha leave the sport.

    don't be ridiculous. Yamaha sealed their fate when they stopped making 2 stroke sleds, of course they can't compete with the big 3 now..

      There is no big 3. There now the big 1 (BRP) and 2 smaller companies that probably don't equal BRP's sales combined.

      It’s interesting. I’ve only been sledding for 2 seasons now. I did purchase a Ski Doo because Polaris had a sales freeze due to recalls. As a result- I’m the only one in a group of 13 with a Ski-Doo. All others ride Pro-RMK’s. We play in McCall, Idaho and I almost never see Ski-Doo’s. I enjoy my 2023 Summit Edge, 165 a lot. It’s a better built machine than the Polaris. But- I rode a Polaris last week for the first time, so much easier to ride. And a much better seat. Decided next season I will trade in the Ski-Doo for a Khaos- if they are selling them- damn recalls!

    BRP doesn’t take money from the Canadian government. Bombardier does, the company that makes planes and trains. Separate company for over 20 years now.

    Skidoo is the trend-setter. Others may occassionally come up with innovation, but BRP incorporates ideas into production.

    Back in the '70's, sleds could be bought by the common person. Nowadays they are easily 10 - 15K. Crazy. All 3 brands.

    I want to say it was maybe late 2020 or early 2021, we were knocking back a few at a buddy's house and one guy in attendance was a yamaha rep. Nice guy, and he was telling us something that we never believed until the major announcement. He said....yamaha is getting out of the snowmobile business! We all laughed because we thought he was full of shit. He said, no man. We are getting out of the business because theres no money to be made. It's a narrow band in a worldwide recreational market. They tried to elevate the snowmobile division by going premium. They dropped the engines that made them the same as everyone else and began doing four strokes and adding high teck functions to move the division to a low volume, high profit model like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, etc. You get my drift. Problem being, the People who could afford such snowmobiling extravagance at the time, were replacing their 2 srokes every season but keeping their yamahas longer and still buying 2 strokes every season. They underestimated the market and instead of ushering in a new luxury snowmobile division, they shot themselves in the face by pricing themselves out of the market for the people who where actually lining the pockets of polaris, Arctic Cat and BRP. The people that could buy a 340, 380, 440, 500LC, etc, couldn't buy a Yamaha priced 60-75% more. Dropping 2 strokes and going premium was the beginning of the end. The 2014 partnership with Arctic Cat was Yamaha divesting itself of snowmobile development. The writing was on the wall but we didn't see it. I knew this was happening 3 years ago and still didn't believe it. Look for Yamaha to heavily invest in the marine industry, its global.

      @@ADDvanced 121” to 144”. The factory track was 136” but I could not find one in stock anywhere with the 2.52. Ordered the 15x144x1.25 track and extensions that shud tip up the tail of track. I’ll see what’s in the box when I return home.

    My thoughts on re-vitalizing the snowmobile industry. Build some early 70's sleds and make them affordable. Like a 340 enticer, an old school tundra, a 399 Panther, and an early 400 indy. That would introduce more people to snow travel.

    I 💯 agree with you about the cost of everything going up and our last couple of winters in southern ontario have been crap with little to no snow . Who wants to spend 1000s on a new sled with no snow

    The Elias Snow Toboggan was around for many years to .. Made by a Hardware Store Owner in WI and later sold to the FWD Truck Compnay ..

      Can you check your trapping line with a Log Hauler or tow your Dark house out on the Lake .. The Steam engine Log Hauler would be too heavy to operate on the ice ..

    It just shows you nothing last forever, I am sad that Yamaha is done in sleds,Yamaha has moved the bar up so many times in there snowmobiling history and could build awesome machines when they set there mind to it. But the way I see it people are brand loyal and when they switch to another brand, that will influence other thing the might normally buy. So i hope Yamaha understands that as well. You would have had to be living in a cave not to see the writing on the wall for them. I have been snowmobiling since 1973.

    Textron actually owns both Polaris and Arctic Cat. So there's really going to be 2 major players in snowmobiles in 2024...I agree, competition is good for the industry, but one thing you didn't mention is here in the northeast US, the season for snowmobiling seems to be getting shorter and shorter every year. Regardless of the reason, the weather lately hasn't been conducive for riding. I am sure this hurts sales of new sleds in my part of the US.

      Yes, Textron dam near sunk Polari! But they were bought back from Textron in the early eighties. Polaris is now like 10+ times bigger than Arctic. BRP yeah, is huge! But the industry is and probably will forever be cyclic, when the economy sucks and snow conditions are bad to nil it's really tough on the snowmobile industry. I've lived it!

    Since Yamaha is out the snowmobile game now there is now 3 snowmobile manufacturers now but really their is 4, the other Taiga, Since you mentioned BRP they followed Taiga, BRP will get the credit for being first, But Taigia was the first marketed electric snowmobile.

    Multifactorial: Less snow at lower elevations equates to hauling the sleds to the mountains. Shorter snow seasons with climate change, again, hauling them to the mountains .In the 80's, almost every farm had sleds and the fields were fully loaded with sled tracks. Units sold world wide has been declining for years. Fast foreward to today, Lack of snow and we have not been able to ride except in the mountains. The decision to go to a fully 4 stroke line up, heavy sleds, not always the best in the mountains. Yamaha built the best sleds in the 70's, road that popularity into the 80's-90's, with the Phazer. Polaris and Ski-doo came on strong in the 2000's. Today, sledding is a expensive proposition, $15K + sleds, trailers or sled decks, Gore-Tex this and that, riders nowdays are dressed in $2000 set-ups while riding. The technology, always advancing has become price inhibiting, My 1st sled was a 1977 Yamaha Exciter. A relic compared to what's on the snow today, but during that era, we were king shit, able to ride long winters, and didn't have to haul them to another state to ride and didn't have to break the bank to own one, and had the times of our lives. Arctic Cat's days are numbered. and what was over 100 brands back in the hay days, will be down to 2 companies. At least, buy American.

    Yamaha is ahead of the curve. This sport is to expensive. Then to top it off, places that used to get alot of snow, no longer get said snow. The trails where I live, have opened for less then a week, every year, for the last 10 years. We used to be able to ride from late November, til early March. Now were lucky if the trails open for a few days in the middle of January. So I can see why Yamaha decided to get out of the game. I don't blame them. I sold my sled and haven't looked back.

      @@ianlemieux7208 Maybe artic cat would be my guess. Their stuff is garbage minus the Suzuki engines. Their atvs are junk. Never had one of their sleds. Skidoo and Polaris are dominating the snowmobile market, and have been for years.

    Canadian and Ski-Doo lover here. When you started talking politics, I kind of cringed. But you make pretty good points. I get that you want to see Polaris and Cat having a level playing field with BRP. But that is a conversation you need to have with your own government. About 70% of Canadians are A-OK with the socialized nature of things up here. (This is where the 30% get really loud. LOL) As for your take on income inequality, I tend to agree. I think we all feel it. As a Gen Xer, I definitely saw how we had it harder than the boomers when we started out. Now I see my Millenial and Gen Z daughters facing even harder times (I've got one in each age bracket). I've bought Ski-Doos in 2013, 2018, and now ordering a 2025. The price increase is stupid, and I can understand the resentment from those getting priced out. Thanks for putting your views out there to get the conversation going. I will definitely check out more of your videos!

    Ski Doo is now owned by a branch of Bombardier Inc.( Bombardier Aviation ). Bombardier the maker of the Rotax engine is 100% BRP, and just as they cornered the market in Aviation, they are trying to do the same with snowmobiles and jet skis. It was good to see Arctic Cat come out with the Catalyst 858 and give Ski Doo a run for their money! However, I like the vintage aged sleds like the Phazer and Phazer 2. What I also find interesting is that most of the older sleds, especially the triple triples out run the news sleds easily! Cheers !

    And if we don't start getting better winter's here in MI and IN then this season of 2024 their will be a huge drop on snowmobile sales across the board as many of the snowmobile company's are getting out of the snowmbile sport we just don't get the snow like we used too back in the day, end of february here and it's 65 degrees out unreal

    Sleds died after 2005. (For me). This is industry can not survive when the average price is only a couple grand less than an entry level car. With questionable winters, snowmobiling is going to become a vintage sled hobby, only.

      @ADDvanced Overall, I'd say it's a good overall sled. Reminds me of the old lynx. I'd say Snotrax got it right when they said it's perfect for the younger, smaller rider and the older crowd, like me. I pretty much rode the 500-600 class machines when they came about. I am a 2 stroke junkie, but I'd probably get used to the 400 single. Price? I guess 7-9k isn't terrible in today's market.

    BRP has massive quality and reliability issues though. Couldn't pay me to take a BRP product. Any of them. They won't be dominating anything, especially marine. _ESPECIALLY_ motorcycles. Polaris and Cat tend to be the trend setters in the sled world, though. Most of the sleds I see on local trails and play areas are all Polaris for the most part. Tend to be a lot of older sleds because new ones are so grossly expensive. It doesn't matter all that much that BRP made 10B in revenue since the entire market size for snowmobiles (as of 23) is only valued at 1.2B. BRP makes planes and trains, a ton of their revenue comes from those things. Only a small smattering of that total comes from recreation products.

      Brp makes zero trains or planes. BRP is entirely recreational products. Bombardier split from BRP years ago. The RP stands for Recreational Products.

    I would've loved to get another cat after 25 years of not buying a sled or riding. I looked around and first thought Yamaha, then hear about them discontinuing them and moved on to Artic Cat. So looked at the prices of the AC's and was shell shocked! Left to go look at Polaris and Ski doo, and immediately seen you can get a 850 ski doo for equal or less price than a Cat 600! Talked to the dealer about the ski doo's and asked if I should also look at his Polaris line and he laughed and said if you don't mind your sled being in the shop for warranty work it recalls half the season it's a great sled. He admitted he rode the Polaris himself but he also said he didn't have to buy it or be without one of it's in the shop, and he would own a ski doo if it was his money. So Ski Doo makes it an easy choice at the end of the day, but dam I sure do love the look of a green Arctic Cat!

      U can find a catalyst 600 for little over $12,000. Idk where ur getting ur prices from but a 600 cat isn’t more than a 850 doo. Cat is around $200 more model to model comparison idk why. Think its kinda stupid when cat doesn’t have control of the market share but whatever. $200 maybe little more but isnt going to discourage me from buying the sled i really want. All a lot of money now but if u search model to model with equal shock packages and accessories all comparable. Was just pricing a 858 catalyst other day ATAC shock package $18778 out the door tax included. Ur not gonna find much better deal on a 850 with premium shock package than that.

      Have more wins and championships racing sleds than most could ever imagine. If ur looking at a 600 thats more than a 850 doo its either a real bad deal or a way better shock package and optioned sled. O ya looking at Yamahas u know a Yamaha today is just another arctic cat right lol!! Cats r not that much more money just a little more money but if u shop around ur going to pay around the same for any of them. Ur just some part time snowflake that hasn’t even rode in 25 years ur not a snowmobiler so stop pretending hahaha

      Frankly other than Yamaha specific parts like body and clutching you could dig into the parts manuals and see what matches between the Cat and Yamaha machines for the last decade and go that route. You’ll probably match a lot more parts than you think.

    I’ve never found Yamaha sleds to be the fastest, but they sure are damn reliable. I’ve owned several Yamahas, Polaris, Arctic cat and skidoo. I found skidoo to be unreliable, and just a nightmare, Polaris was better, never had much trouble with them, I loved my cats and Yamahas though. It’s surprising to me that Arctic cat built such awful atv’s but did really good on sleds. Yamaha seems to strike gold on everything they build. I’m still running a 23 year old Yamaha big bear 400, I told myself I’ll buy a kodiak when this one dies, it’s still going very strong with only minor maintenance. I may never get another new quad at this rate.

    Yamaha quit the market after the sanctions with Russia they sold a crazy amount of snowmobiles to Russia and when the war took place and they are no longer allowed to sell to them it doesn’t come out financially to continue the sled industry

    And even worse, Yamaha sleds have been built on Arctic Cat chassis' for the last ten years. This will put a real dent in Cat production and I'm sure will take away some jobs.

    honestly if cat and polaris made way better entry level machines i think they could get a leg up. low displacement ie 340-600cc. no frills machines.dirt bikes, go karts, outboards, etc with a pricetag under 7k for whatever. when a new sled costs more then a car there is a big issue at hand in getting riders in the market.

      Used good vintage Cats like Jag leafers and Puma IFS and Jag IFS and fan Z IFS machines are holding resale value because of this market gap you described. Lots were bought for ice fishing or grandpa sleds new. So mint used after Gramps passes is bringing 2 or three grand for a perfect 570Z where I’m at. Even with the poor winters. Parts are still plentiful with some web digging.

      U dont have to go buy the biggest and baddest snowmobile out there. Plenty of new sleds selling from $12,000-$15000. Specifically if u shop around ur gonna find a great sled for $12,000.

    Yamaha has not been same for a long time or any brand. Mid 80's to the 90's was Yamaha's best snowmobiles, If I had a money for a new sled I would rather spend it on a 90's vmax or Exciter SX. I am sure people felt the same way when John Deere got out of the game.

    Personally for me to invest 10-14k in a sled I might be able to use a month out of the year and have to travel to do it. So for the average northern United States working stiff, no way.

      Black Rock Investment purchased about 8% of the shares of Textron, they don't own them. Same with Raytheon, they have about 7% of the shares.

    Dude, the Corporate profits were all dependent on raising prices of sleds while easy low interest financing was available. That easy financing is gone and the corps will need to time to recognize and adjust, when 100 sleds get sold next year. When price increases the quantity drops. Tune in again in 5 years, see where we are. In the meantime there are plenty of lighter used sleds around to use, due to the warming trends and people leaving the sport. I took all my machines out of Buffalo, and transported them down to SC, will pull the engines and sell on Ebay. Im done, last couple times I considered going the snow melted in old Forge NY a few days before i was set to go. Can see the trail cams up there.

      What exactly are you expecting the brp faithful to say? I think most of us are shocked that yamaha is no longer in the game. I'm not happy about it, and I'm a BRP guy. Competition is good for all markets.
      I think yamaha messed up thinking 4 stroke were the future. Yes they are fast and powerful, but they aren't light and nimble like the 2 strokes.
      Yamaha should've had a few 2 stroke offerings that were competitive with the others. That would kept them in the game with younger riders

    The wealth distribution problem could be fixed by simply treating all income the same...no special rate for capital gains (notice the correlation on your chart with the beginning of capital gains being taxed less than the maximum income rate) ...but the big money in the US owns both political parties and as such things will continue to get worse. It is sad that Yamaha is getting out of the snow machine business though..they made some great sleds.

      I'll do a video on it this summer, but every 'car guy' I know who likes speed and looks into getting a boat buys the same thing: You can pick up a 300hp seadoo for $16k, with affordable monthly financing. Mercury/Brunswick Boat Group does not even try to offer anything exciting; their entire model lineup is pretty boring and not performance oriented at all. Sea Ray flirted with the idea when they had the Pachanga line, but that came and went because it was so overpriced. If they don't start going after EXCITING, ATTAINABLE products, they will find themselves in a Harley Davidson position where everything they sell is only desired by old people, and they stop attracting younger customers. BRP is already showing how innovative they are with the Switch pontoon, far more designed, fresh, and innovative than any type of boat Brunswick has put out in the past few decades... so when that guy with the 300hp jetski gets a family, what is he going to spend money on? A boring 45k bayliner that can't even do 50mph, or a $20k modular pontoon from the same company he's used to, that can use the same accessories, dealer, app, etc?
      Fact is BRP is thriving after going after younger customers. Brunswick/Merc does not seem to care, and is instead printing money by selling gigantic boats with 8 outboards on the back of the hull to rich old people.

    I have not had much luck with BRP I went back to a Yamaha ATTAK. Now that Yamaha is getting out of the game I am debating on going to Cat or Polarise. We shall see. I like the reliability of the 4strokes. Just wish they were a little lighter. R.I.P. Yamaha Snowmobiles!

      I'm pretty content with my 2015 Cat with the Suzuki 800. In one of my other videos, I just picked up another sled with a Zuke 800 and it has almost 11k miles. 2 Strokes can be very reliable, but most new engines are trying to run cleaner for emissions, and are pushing it with lubrication so they just don't seem to hold together as well. There are some Suzuki 800s with over 20k on them, and they're used in helicopters these days.

    I think you are mistaken about BRP getting government funds, BRP was bought back by the Bombardier family, and is not part of the company that builds planes and such. The industrial company known as Bombardier keeps getting government bail outs, but as I understand, BRP is not part of that.

    Nothing will run as long as a yamaha 4 stroke... and that's no lie does not even come close.... and they are fast just heavy compared to the 2 strokes in the mountains I understand trail riding nothing with run with the yamadog I'm very sad the run is done.... just got in from a 100 mile ride In michigan and every sled with the hood off was a ski doo.     Yamaha has been planning their escape from the market for a decade. They hung on by sharing manufacturing costs with Arctic. I think they were looking for a market turnaround that never really came. Arctic came scarily close to closing about 2017. Bad management. Just like the previous Cat scares of 1974 and 1981. Overproduction and market errors. Textron gave them a cash Infusion that kept them going. I’ve ridden both brands and liked both. Cat can turn things around and probably make it as a high end specialty maker of expensive low volume machines. But the days of selling 50,000 Panthers a year have been gone for decades. Yamaha was not prepared for the die hard two stroke market. The number of folks who collect the SRX 2 stroke twins and triples seems to be growing.

    You are incorrect about BRP taking government subsidies. The company was split many years ago and the family kept control of the recreational equipment and became BRP, and Bombardier was made its own separate company to build the Challenger jets and trains. It’s Bombardier that is sinking and taking the government bailout money. No money in private jets and trains. Just greedy shareholders.
    The recreational industry is doing just fine. But I ride a Polaris myself up here. Just like the look of them more. 🇨🇦

    Bombardier isn’t known for inventing the skidoo, it’s known for inventing the rubber covered sprocket. Why do you think there logo is a sprocket. Yes possibly the government is funding BRP, it doesn’t stop the other companies from coming up with new ways to shape the industry. But the way governments are shaping society these days, things are changing, not only in our sport, but in general. Hopefully life takes a different approach and it gets more affordable so that we can enjoy our toys and hopefully Yamaha comes back. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞

    CZ Motorcycles were the best Motocross bikes in the World at one time. Suzuki had to copy them directly .

    I’ve owned all of them over the last several decades. My favorite sleds were my Polaris and Ski-Doos. I’ve never been a brand loyalist, except when it comes to Honda motors in tools. I expected Yamaha to go away back in the early 2000’s, but they persisted. They’ve never managed to really bite into market share, which is unfortunate for them. Economies balance, even between countries, so it’s only a matter of time until Arctic Cat and Polaris get their leg up. I’m not fully aware of the subsidies BRP receives from Canada, but it’s likely only offsetting tariffs. Inflation is the enemy of our economy, and a deflationary event will eventually come to fruition. The question is when will that rubber band finally break.

      I'm not a brand loyalist either, but holy cow has BRPs domination of this industry been impressive over the past decade. The crossover in accessories for their Linq system from atv/utv and now pontoons is impressive, and certainly helps drop costs/maximize profit for all their categories. I'm just not sure how smaller companies, like Cat and Polaris, are supposed to compete with such a goliath; almost every new sled I see is a doo these days.

    BRP will NEVER dominate the motorcycle industry. That’s a great talking point, but won’t ever happen. The big 4 Japanese companies are just that. The big 4. Can’t speak to snowmobiles, but I don’t see that many people changing over to BRP unless the bikes are free. And motorcycling as a hobby, like a lot of things right now is dieing. Young people don’t even like driving let alone going our riding a motorcycle. So it would require current riders to change brands. Not gonna happen.

      I wouldn't bet on that, their new Origin and Pulse look extremely well designed, and they're going to undercut Harley's livewire by a massive amount, if we can look at history. Get out of here with that young people comment; THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO. Most young people are busy giving all their money to insane rents and student loans. And before you go off on that, sorry, in order for America to be #1, we need an educated population. Our economy and military strength is not based on blue collar work, it's based on technology.     Not funded by Canadian government, that is Bombardier Aircraft, and that has been stopped, this guy is wrong on the invention part, they talk about the recreational market, not some random commercial product, plus that product he referred to was dead before it got going. Funny how the yanks think they invented everything, Aircraft was flown in Nova Scotia Canada by Alexandre Graham Bell 10 years before the Wright brothers, the telephone was also invented in Canada by Bell, plus the radio transmission was perfected in Montreal by Marconi before anyone else ,first Signal was sent to Europe from St. Johns NFLD, sorry forgot the date.

The first one ever, in human history.     I’m curious about what you think of Japanese socialism, I don’t like Ski doo sleds I’m a Cat guy, but thinking that the Canadian government is somehow better to deal with for a large company is crazy. The amount of taxation in Canada makes any country look more attractive for making money. The reason Yamaha is done has nothing to do with BRP, Yamaha has been reluctant to follow the trend of lighter snowmobiles and other innovations. The fact that they used chassis from Arctic Cat is all you needed to see where they were headed. Yamaha gave up on snowmobiles plain and simple. BRP is a bit like Harley Davidson, they are really good at marketing and they convince people that they have to ride a Ski doo, period.

That’s why Yamaha and Cat, and the military propped up Polaris are losing traction.
    And me being Canadian, won’t buy a BRP product because of how they treat their dealers(powersports employee for 20+ years) Come to find out Polaris is even worse. I thought BRP was all about quarterly profits until I took the reins of a Service dept of a Polaris shop. Anna talk disheartening.

      @@ADDvanced I’ve been trying to get my tonsils out for 15 years but thanks to my “free” healthcare no specialist ever gave me the go ahead. Now I’m 40 with enlarged tonsils, have to deal with tonsillitis every few years and sleep apnea an a cpap because of it. I’m about to roll the dice I Mexico I think.

      @@OGReeber Mexico is becoming the only affordable choice. I went to a walk in clinic for an inhaler once, waited 15 minutes, saw a doctor for 10 minutes. I was charged almost $4,000 USD. Insanity.

BRP did not make the first snowmobile; that was my AMERICAN boy Alvin, and right now Canada's involvement with BRP seems like it could jeopardize the future of other brands. Polaris and Arctic Cat don't get government subsidies; how are they supposed to compete? I don't want them to go away.

    My chances of encountering a transgender in the bathroom are pretty low, but my wife’s and daughter’s chances are much higher because all transgenders use the female bathroom. If you want really low odds, before Rowe was overturned, about 600,000 people out of 370,000,000 got an abortion in any given year. That’s .0016 percent, much lower than encountering a trans in the John, yet it’s also a top issue for people. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Don't scapegoat irrelevant terms like socialism for your own inability to accept the fact that superior
    technical innovation has been BRP's best motivation to success..
    We need to look no further than the rider forward "Rev" platform, for instance which took the entire industry by storm.....
    This has nothing to do with socialism but everything to do with hard work and commitment to dream beyond the accepted conventions accepted by the rest of the industry over the past fifty years.

      You are correct, the rev chassis was revolutionary in terms of rider position, no doubt. But when one almost nationalized company can get 496 million dollar loans, how do you expect smaller privatized companies to compete with that? Love a lot of BRPs products, their designers have been KILLING it lately, but I don't want Cat and Polaris to quit making sleds, which might happen if we continue on the current path.

      @@ADDvanced BRP represents a multi-billion conglomerate that more than likely lends money to banks....
      Snowmobile and ATVS are just a small fraction of the company, which produces everything from airlines, executive jets, tramways and even train lines..
      I don't quite understand what their success and technological advances and innovation have with the smaller companies. There's plenty of room for the all the manufacturers but to throw around terms like "socialism "is unhelpful for anyone and completely unnecessary.

      There are no guarantees the other manufacturers will ever complete fully with such a large conglomerate however, why would you blame them for working so hard to become such a success ?
      Both companies exist in the free enterprise system which rewards the highest innovation and hard work..
      Competition makes me stimulus for better products and the consumer makes me final decision..

      ​@@jeffreyhagelin3672 BRP is a separate entity from Bombardier aerospace. It was part of a restructuring by Bombardier, whose aerospace and transportation businesses were struggling. BRP has absolutely nothing to do with Bombardier aircraft anymore.

    As a Minnesota native, I hated to buy a Ski-Doo. Mostly because I think the French-Canadians are so arrogant, and think non-French speakers are garbage. But when I compared the 3 brands, it was a no brainer. I went with Ski-Doo.

    BRP doesn't just build recreational vehicles. They build jets, street car, trains and are a major player in the space industry and are globally recognized for leading edge technology. That's what part of the business is propped up by the government. Government subsidization isn't for fucking outdoor toys. The US government provides billions In tax breaks to lure and /or keep big business in the states. Take a look at the billions, yes billions that the US government gives Boeing in tax breaks and non repayable loans. How is that OK there but not in any other country with competing businesses? Also everything in the world wasn't invented in the US. First basketball game yep in canada. Hope your head doesn't pop off after reading that. All sleds are way too expensive now. Shit all outdoor toys are too expensive so are automobiles, we consumers are getting fu@#ed right over. Like your vids but be sure of your facts first.

      Just to precise a few things: Bombardier makes trains (at least they used to) and planes. BRP was part of Bombardier until a few years ago when it got split in its own entity (Bombardier Recreational Products), but your point still stands.I'm aware that Bombardier got lots of loans and subventions from the Canadian governement, but I have a hard time finding any information about loans or subventions for BRP.... If somebody can point me to that information I would be grateful.

      Yeah those are actually two different companies, Bombardier and BRP. I'm aware that America prints money for defense contractors, but right now BRP is running away from the competition, and I want Cat and Poo to survive.

      Corporate welfare is alive and well on both sides of the border. Glad to see some have done their homework, many here can't distinguish between the two companies. All the sled makers need to survive. It seems though one sets the benchmark price and rest follow suit and they are too expensive new and too expensive used in both parts and the reseller thinking their used sled is worth 2/3's of what they paid. I have two arctic cats and a polaris. '99 zl I picked up in spring and the secondary is seized onto the jackshaft as per the zr videos from aadvanced. Thought it'd be enjoyable to restore/rebuild. Not much fun in the end.
