    A $100K, which is $185 a sq ft? Seriously?! I'm sorry, but that's just too much. The smaller homes are needed for those that can't afford that much for a home to begin with. I knew when the tiny home market hit the scene that it wouldn't take long for people to take it and run with some "popular" or "new thing" movement and just ruin it for those that can't afford the larger homes BECAUSE OF THE HUGE PRICES. I know all about building and worked in it myself for years so I call BS. They can made cheaper and still be good quality homes and still turn a profit, but the almighty greed just strikes again. These would have been perfect for those in hurricane areas that were just demolished too, but those poor people won't be able to afford this. Nor seniors that have had a big chunk of their social security stolen from them either or the low income single person or single parent.

      Doyle work for 23% less than your coworkers? Of course not, does that make you greedy? Life is tough and nothing is cheap and if it’s cheap it’s probably not worth living in. Spec out the cost of the materials and then the labor and then the overhead, and see what the maker’s profit Margin is before you claim the world being greedy.

    • @thomasa1278
      @thomasa1278 21 день тому

      a "tiny home" is a trailer. This is a 763sf cabin or cottage. It's real estate. Comps used to appraise this home were existing site-built homes of similar size and amenities. You are correct, it could've been built a lot more cheaply with lower-paid, less skilled labor, lower quality materials and builder-grade appliances and finishes. But it wasn't. There is another market for cheaply built homes.

    I would change the Kitchen orientation and make the Fridge beside the stove with a small set of drawer caninents between them. Then build the peninsula out on the dining room side. Mainly to let more light in to the kitchen and put a window over the sink on the wall side. Perhaps not quite as open but much brighter in the green kitchen also fridge closer to the door for putting groceries in this way. Otherwise very nice.

      @@johncantu6316 there is nothing 'clever' about calling it a cabin or cottage. It's to convey exactly what they are; smaller homes constructed similar to site built. They are mounted on a permanent foundation and are considered real estate. Many people do not need/want small homes, most builders will not build smaller homes because the profit margin is so slim on them.

    • @johncantu6316
      @johncantu6316 21 день тому

      @Tomanger... this business's business model is to market these upgraded factory built small homes as CABINS, often as a 'second home' out in the country, no one is forcing people to purchase them. There are 'no frills' modular homes of all sizes available elsewhere. Businesses endeavor to make a profit, and there's virtually no money in the under 1,000 sq ft market. Thus, paint them black, load them up, add more windows, use less particleboard, raise the ceiling and go after a market that's different from the one looking at mobile homes.

      In 2010 I bought a small house in Panama City Florida for $20,000. Can you believe that? I paid a lot more for my car!! (a Mercedes.). I spent about $30,000 to fix it up. It turned out looking like a doll house it was so cute. It even had a fireplace, a big yard and was about 20 minutes from the beach. A few years later I bought a condo for $95,000 right on the Gulf. The sand and the ocean were my backyard. I spent about $20,000 to fix it up. I sold it a couple of years ago because I couldn't do the stairs any more and now it has an HOA of almost $1,000 a month and sells for about $350,000. Both were like tiny homes but not on wheels. The little house with a big front porch and a tin roof was about 900 sq. ft. and the condo was only 432 sq. ft. with a 200 sq. ft loft you could stand up and walk around in. Both were big enough for me.

      They cost more than some modulars, but of course, quality comes at a price.

    Having two doors in a 7x10 living room is just stupid! It's cute with a good layout, though other than that.

    Even if was in my 20's I still wouldn't want a mini house with a stupid loft where you have to climb up and down a damn ladder and then crawl around . Not even if I had kids they wouldn't be climbing a ladder, I can see someone climbing down in the middle of the night half asleep and fall to the floor and break something.
    And way over priced !

      Compare the rate of resale appreciation with a small house vs. a trailer. Plus, you can enlarge a conventional stick-built house when you can afford to add more square feet. It may be delayed gratification, but it's worth it.

    I support the tiny living movement, but let's be real, this is a shed that can be purchased and retrofitted for far less than $100k, which is not considered affordable. My first sfh 3 bed, 2.5 bath, yard, garage, full basement, etc was $125k for reference. And I live in high priced northeast USA.

      I think the folks who design and order these houses have spent plenty of time researching what they can have built for their dollar. If the houses were overpriced there would not be a market for them.

    The kitchen counter looks generic, the bathroom is the most average bathroom-nothing special at all, I don’t think this little house is worth anywhere near what you are asking. Ridiculous.

      Dear Jennifer who loves rats... Our customer designed this house herself--including the kitchen and bathroom which will have a custom tile shower. It is special to her and Westwood didn't "ask" for the cost. We build what our clients ask us to build for them, and they are happy with their investment. This customer designed what was comfortable for her budget and what she believes will appeal to her air B&B guests.

    Ugly counters and vanity. Putting a counter to block the front door entry which makes bringing in groceries harder was bad placement. Friendlier to have the breakfast nook face into the livingroom.
