They are as good as most commercial doors nowadays, but not much of a bunker unless you are just looking to survive a surface blast many miles away from you. At least they have the right angle turn to cut the radiation from the surface would be better to have multiple turns however
*YESSSS!! A new video!! I love your videos Ron because it gives me the opportunity to see these wonderful bunkers I can only dream having. I'm a poor man but it is what it is. I'd like to just say THANK YOU for posting these video. It allows me to escape my world for a little bit. Cheers brother*
I'd live permanently underground if it was this nice. As long as there are no mold issues. Solves a lot of problems. Heating, cooling, tornadoes, End of the World...
The thermal efficiency is probably great. Also the sound deadening would be great also! Minus the possibility of ground water being getting in, I think it is awesome!
Buy this, then reverse engineer it to make more with a modern twist ...could you imagine..this...but with modern tech...windows can be 4k Tv's decorated up to look like "windows" camera's outside for each "window" Natural looking lights, modern air systems and filtration and design. Perhaps find a way to make these houses affordable by just building down instead of up...ooooh in the midwest! Imagine having entire towns of these, a tornado overhead? no problem, just some crops gettin damage but everybody's safe! No damage!
What a great way to escape a noisy neighbour and there thumper music 🔊 . Or a great place to listen to your music till your ears bleed 👂🩸 and not be worried about annoying the neighbours.
Just imagine you rent this for around $5,000 for the week then WW3 starts. Talk about getting your very own bunker for pennies on the dollar if you time it right.
For people saying it needs blast doors... Why? It's 30 miles from Lubbock. It's in an area that won't get directly bombed. All you need is to shelter from fallout... right?
Assuming all missiles strike their intended targets, and don't go off course. If a missile's guidance system malfunctions it could land on you by mistake.
Back when this was built there was a SAC base in both Lubbock and Amarillo. Chances are it would get hit. Plainview would probably not get a direct hit as the AF Base was on the opposite side of Lubbock.
THAT was CRAZY COOL, Dave! Yes! You should buy that bunker and only update the mechanics for clean air and such and leave the rest of it retro. 😊. Not sure if I could do a 30 day challenge or not. It would definitely prove interesting! Sometimes I wish I still lived in Texas. I’d have loved to come work for you when I got out of the military in Fort Hood back in ‘93. 😊
Did I miss it? I didn't see an air handling system to scrub out NBC contaminates and CO2. I also didn't see a blast door and right-hand turn to stop gamma radiation. Was this simply built as an underground home and not as a shelter?
Imagine all the neighbours who called you nuts for years all lining up to be let in and getting snotty when told it's at capacity. You'd need a good door and being Texas probably some gun ports and arrow slits.
I would do a 30 day challenge down in the bunker with my family. Provide the supplies and let us go for it. Pay us for every day that we stay down there, with a big bonus for getting through 30 days. No internet, but plenty of music and I'll be good to go!
@@user-Bornagain you obviously arent in reality , most average families cant afford even the base model before transport, installation , construction costs, etc
Unfortunately you could never build that home today and pass code inspection. Primarily because there are no direct emergency exits to the outside from the bedrooms. That MAY put a crimp in the plans to rent it as an Air BnB. That said, I'd love it with the addition of a modern air filtration system and higher security doors.
I can somehow smell this video. There's no way this thing would help during a nuclear winter. There's no seal between the entrance and the home. Also, who needs/wants a fireplace? Let's allow in radiation so we can have a fire? Neat idea, I'm not 100% on the execution.
Kind of a waste to build such an extensive bunker in a small town that will never be targeted. Something like this would be much appreciated in Amarillo, which is a prime target due to the nuclear weapons production and maintenance happening at Pantex.
I didn't see a blast door which is surprising. Maybe I'm missing the point of this house. Was it just supposed to be underground living or was this really intended as a doomsday house? I would expect everything above ground to be flattened and the radiation to just seep down into the living space. On the other hand if you are expecting a collapse of civilization, it provides no real protection at all.
Just think of the money lost investing in this shelter. You would not live a month in this death trap. 98% of all worries never come true. It is cool to see and would be neat to own.
I would pay “ZERO “ money to say there! Looks like there’s a lot of water damage. Would take a lot of money to renovate it! It’s CRAP! The one in Vegas is way better!
A man is carrying a shovel and a bottle of vodka under a nuclear strike. A friend walks by and asks: - Why do you need the shovel? - We’ll be digging! - And the vodka? - To not feel the pain! - What if we don’t manage to bury ourselves? - Then the shovel will still come in handy - to avoid going crazy!
The doors don't look like they'd survive much of an attempt at breaching. I loved the video!
@@dahorseyguy1 yeah, I thought the same because the bombs have advanced since the’70s. 😉
Yup, would have expected an emergency door that could take a blast.

Needs one of Ron's air systems and blast doors.
If there was an option, you should DEFINITELY buy this.

Exactly!!!!
The mold is the only issue I can’t deal with. I would have to have a guarantee that the mold was mitigated
The thermal efficiency is probably great. Also the sound deadening would be great also! Minus the possibility of ground water being getting in, I think it is awesome!
You have to buy this Ron.

Yup! If we ARE the crazy neighbor with the thumper music...Works both ways! :) I wanna see entire towns of houses like these.
I bet the piece of mind helps you sleep very well in there
I would 100% live in that house! You couldn't pay me to live in Texas thought lol. My mind is blown from watching this!
I would LOVE TO DO 30 DAYS IN THIER ! That's just straight out of History and A Great Blast From The Past !!
I'm a builder, no carpet anytime any place.
You need a better stair engineer. Those steps are horrible. I make good stairs.
Just imagine you rent this for around $5,000 for the week then WW3 starts. Talk about getting your very own bunker for pennies on the dollar if you time it right.
*Fascinating! 😎👍*
I wonder how long it has been since someone lived there. 🤔
That was cool. I never knew about these kind of houses.
All doors leading into the bunker, looked like standard house doors? not blast doors? Fun vid

Dirty dance all you like Ron! Did your homework! Great house! ✌️😎👍
Looks good for 70 years old.
Imagine all the neighbours who called you nuts for years all lining up to be let in and getting snotty when told it's at capacity. You'd need a good door and being Texas probably some gun ports and arrow slits.
There was a twilight zone episode line that .
This was wonderful !!!
A real blast from the past .
No blast doors or blast valves; air filtration? Good video.
NO Blast door???

Id kill for this its awesome! The 50s and 60s they were creative as hell
Vegas has a exceptional one of these thats truly a work of art
Funny, I live up the road in Amarillo and had no idea this was down there. cool video!
Those doors would definitely not keep out the nuclear radiation or the hordes of Zombies and roving gangs.
Yeh, he blew the budget on the stairs but forgot swiss type blast doors, or even a cross bar for the doors he had. LoL
Asbestos and lead paint?
It was built in the 60s. Asbestos and lead paint were part of the program.
I would like one by tomorrow!
Yes you should buy it! I will if you don't!
yolo hope everyone is doing great
I remember there is one of these similar things in VEGAS right.
I'll take one!
I’d want to update some things like a blast door and chemical and air cleaner. Other than that I wouldn’t change anything else.
2800sqft is plenty of space.
I wouldn’t mind getting a copy of the plans so I could build my own updated version. With maybe a larger living space above ground
im missing blast doors, it isnt airtight
you absolutely need this!!
Would expect a huge lower blast door or big swiss type concrete door or something, because every neighbor would kill to get in.☠️
Thanx that was really neat
I feel every single American should get an Atlas bunker.
If they could. Pretty expensive now.
@freeamericanthinker558 The company has affordable packages. I think now will be the perfect time.
No, every single American should stand up to their government that's robbing them blind while shipping in millions of people that hates Americans.
@@user-Bornagain you obviously arent in reality , most average families cant afford even the base model before transport, installation , construction costs, etc
I’d absolutely LOVE to get a bunker from them if I could. 😊
THKS
WHY IS THIS SO COOL
if the price is right, would not go back with carpet
Now this is the kind of doomsday shelter atlas could add to their line up

If you can afford it, heck yeah, buy it!
Very cool! Wondering what kind of leak they had?
How awesome would it be to live there. You could actually get total blackout in your bedroom.
WOW! Very interesting!
Very cool 👍
Fix any mold or whatever and I could live there for a year or 20 no problem… if it’s for sale I would love to know the price as well
Amazing!

Wow he really liked to build his homes in plain view. 🤣😂
Should of built a high wall around it

You should buy it
I would do 30 days in there .
If you buy this Ron I got some old hanging lamps.
buy it
It doesn't look the most secure to be honest. I'd imagine the bad guy could get in relatively easily. Im sure that could be sorted out.
I have a bunch of records for the record player.

I wish I could.
The 1962 is ok but the 1964 has color t.v. and a wet sauna.

Feels like theirs problems with this one
What's the book's name that has pics of this house?
It's a fixer upper.........or maybe downer.
The first doomsday home was a cave 🤣
I could do 60 days no problem
Very interesting just a little bit out dated
It's a nice house, but it isn't very secure Not like Ron's bunkers
The sound of this guy breathing in the video is concerning. Pal maybe get checked out?
Still love you videos but please stop mouth breathing

Maybe hold the camera further away. It sounded like a 95 year old man with COPD.
