They took a brilliant movie that's supposed to be a parody of a "generic" superhero movie, and turned it into a generic superhero movie for kids. Bravo.
It's so unfair. Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, and How to Train Your Dragon got whole franchises, hell even the spinoffs like Puss in Boots get amazing follow-ups, yet one of, if not, the cleverest of Dreamwork's films gets this hunk a shit as its official follow-up. On the Walmart of streaming services, with 2000-looking animation, and none of the original cast returning. That's legitimately depressing. It should've either stayed a one-and-done classic or had ONE more go on the big screen with the RESPECT it deserves.
Unfortunately companies only see money now, and they don’t want to bother creating new and engaging IPs so they go back and milk off whatever they can. At least their other works had relatively cohesive and good sequels. But this one is low budget, reused assets, and has no good plot, it’s literally the opposite of what the original megamind was. It’s disappointing and I really hope people don’t support the megamind IP anymore because that’ll be doing what the company wants; as much as I wish that the movie will not make more than its budget the sad part is that the budget is so low it’s hard to not even make a profit

Mega mind 3: They show the ending scene of this movie, then they zoom out revealing that it’s on a screen. Megamind: “eugh, that’s enough of that.” And then they move on.
I really hope Megamind 3 is an actually good movie and it begins with Megamind waking up like "Ahhhhh, what a low quality weird dream that was". I doubt it, but I can hope

This could be like a Cinderella 2 type deal, where it happened but not really, causing it to happen nowhere in the canon, while the third movie is actually good and follows out the plot like the first movie did

The point was that it was just Megamind and Metroman all this time, the only two aliens on earth, making them unique, special. This is why Megamind gets lonely, this is why he needs to CREATE a new hero, not find one. For a new villain it should’ve been a NEW villain in universe as well, perhaps inspired by when Megamind was a villain who is upset he’s a hero now and tries to get him to be a villain again if you want to do a similar plot to this for whatever reason.

I hate the idea of having new villains and heroes because the whole point of the 1st movie was that only Megamind and Metroman were villains/heroes, because they were aliens. I'd say a good plot for a sequel would be an alien capable of surviving black holes, unlike Megamind and Metroman's species, coming down to earth to use its resources or something.

O el mismo agujero negro, como en la de Zim y el Florpus, que solo era un agujero negro que creo Zim al mover las realidades y se une con Dib que es el heroe para reparar su error aunque al final le traiciona pero Dib logra salvar a la tierra. Algo asi hubiera estado bien. Que Megamente tratara de cerrar ese agujero para evitar que otros planetas sufran el mismo destino, no se robaria el corazon noble de megamente y quiza meterle ahi un poco de backstory y sepamos más cosas de el.
Not a fan of the straight up magic. Like, the superpowers in the original were generic Superman powers, but now we have a dude made of darkness and a guy made of lava
6:50 It’s sad because the idea of Megamind and Roxanne not getting together immediately could have had more depth. Imagine the awkwardness of them getting to know each other for real, outside of kidnappings and disguises. Megamind could struggle with being seen with her in public as his true self, expecting people to still find him strange after years of bullying. What if they actually addressed what happened to Bernard, or had him show up again?
Naaaah, that sounds like a lot of job. Pff, creating a decent secuel that respects the characters and their development? Nope, we better introduce a random child.
I think whats weird about this movie is that whoever made it was betting on the fact that, we who loved the first movie would SOMEHOW be so excited that Megamind came back we wouldn't care about... Yeah, devoted fans come for good quality writing, story telling, character development and the great thing we loved at first over all. It sucks that companies think they can put out cheap crap under the name of something great and call it the same thing(Lookin' at u Disney). In my mind and in the mind of the fandom, Megamind 2 doesn't exist.
Especially with a franchise that only became a cult classic years after it's release. Megamind was a new IP with no established characters to carry it on nostalgia value alone. Megamind became a beloved movie because it was smartly written, hilarious, ahead of it's time with the Nice-Guy plotline, and genuine. Viewers pick up on things like that, the WRITING was what made Megamind so good, this slapping a blue Jimmy Neutron jpg over an episode of Cocomelon is an insult to the original movie and the fanbase it developed.
Here's what I think Megamind 2 should've been about. It should've been about Megamind earning Metrocity's trust. I imagine that even after defeating Titan, there would still probably be people who wouldn't trust him because of his villainous past. I mean, Metrocity still thinks he killed MetroMan. It could be about Megamind adjusting to being a hero, but the town having trouble fully trusting him. The stigma could've even spread to Roxanne when a rumor starts popping up that she was secretly Megamind's girlfriend the whole time and might have been an accomplice in MetroMan's death. Maybe the antagonist of the film could be people trying to avenge MetroMan's death. I feel like it's a huge missed opportunity.
I like your idea in concept aka winning over the trust of the public. But it's kinda silly to base the whole confusion of the film on Metro Man supposedly being dead. All it takes is one cameo to confirm he's still alive. Or a video chat where he's playing guitar, streamed to the city so they know he isn't dead.

So even if he did come out publicly with his music, there is a high chance: maybe he has a new alias, or maybe if he did come out, people wouldn't believe him, thinking him to be a "fake." The public tends to not recieve "my death was greatly exaggerated" well, cause death is permanent, haha😅

And this is retconing the movie and show! - You remember this character had a development ark? - Well, we erased that! - You remember these characters coming together? - Well, we put them back into the will-they-won't-they situation! - You remember this character being an orphan? - Well, they have a huge estranged family they never talked about. Ok here's how I'd do it. The Doom Syndicate are not Megamind's colleagues, but instead his diehard fans. They were outcasts just like he was and so they modeled their identities around villainy as he did. The syndicate, Megamind realizes, are trying to push him onto the same pedestal he put Metroman on. Megamind has to try to convince them to abandon their evil ways whilst keeping the city free from crime in the meantime. Remove the self insert, throw in more scenes with Minion/Chum and Megamind strategizing, and have Roxanne try to play up the conflict for Megamind since he loves his presentation.
First Movie: Megamind Second Movie: Nevermind Third Movie: Out Of Your F*cking Mind Edit: Sheesh, 923 people can agree, this was never meant to be made.
This movie takes a fat dump on the megamind cannon, like it’s literally impossible to incorporate this movie into the timeline without messing things up.
There is almost no chance of this being canon because megamind spent majority of his life in prison so for him to have a syndicate and a mentor is practically impossible. Watch them try and follow up with a prequel explaining everything which will take an even bigger dump on the first movie by retconning a bunch of the first movie
That post-credit scene stings the most to me, because I really enjoyed that Megamind was raised by those, very sweet and caring, inmates and build his doomsday devives as a way to express himself, like any child would. He doesn't need a mentor, that's a terrible retcon :(
I wish there was a singular villain, and he broke out of jail with Megamind as their biggest inspiration. But then he feels betrayed upon finding out Megamind is no longer a villain, but a hero, and seeks out to destroy the entire city with megamind included to prove they are the better villain.

It is still funny that the Doom Syndicate's actual debut in the video games were (probably) done better than their film debut. They were just some villain team that appeared, and never needed to have a personal tie with Megamind.

I don't mind Minion get a rename... My problem is that its a _terrible_ rename. CHUM? Freaking CHUM!? Bruh... His name should have been "Sidekick" or something since Megamind is a hero now. :/ And they failed so badly that they literally made the villain based on a _mime_ able to talk... Mimes aren't supposed to talk! That's the point! They basically used the Mime aesthetic because its stereotypically FRENCH.
I like "Sidekick". Like, imagine: Megamind realizes since he's no longer a villain, the name "Minion" doesn't quite fit his friend anymore, so he starts brainstorming a few hero names, but *Minion:* Well, now I'm more of a sidekick, right? *Megamind:* Yes? *Minion:* Then that's my new name! As far as I can tell he was alright being just "Minion", so now why wouldn't he be alright with being just "Sidekick"?
If they had a real budget, I wouldn’t mind the existence of the doom syndicate. However I think their backstory should be that they were inspired by Megamind’s old villainy days as opposed to the dumb plot point that they were his old crew. It would play out so much better and be consistent timeline wise. Imagine the conflict being that Megamind experiences more consequences for his past actions and learning to turn the doom syndicate into hero’s like himself. Or having Megamind become 50/50 split on what is actually better, a hero or villain. How sad is it that this is a better idea than the story this multimillion company could do?

The incredibles and Megamind series have the same things in common. 1. The first one was a masterpiece and the second movie is disaster. 2. We waited a decade to watch another sequel. 3. Movie companies want money, not talent. 4. The second movie introduced new supers and are trash. 5. Both are superhero movies 6. People hate the sequels II. The entertainment industry truly is declining.
Incredibles 2 was alright. Not that good, but acceptable (for me, at least) Megamind 2 is the worst movie I have ever watched in my life. I didn't enjoy it in the slightest
Incredibles 2 had a bigger focus on the family part of the incredibles. It definitely wasnt as good as the 1st movie amd it had a lame villain, but lots of parts were still kinda good. Most of the backlash coud've been easily avoided if the early rumour of a sequel were spoken by a marketing team and said "it is gonna be a kid's tv show." A la penguins of madagascar, it is pratically identical in animation style (and quality, 10 years later and we still haven't found a company that knows how to make good shit on a budget) I bet people would've been upset, but then brush it off, but the marketing for this was "hey! This is the new megamind movie you were all wanting!"
Atomic Cartoons doesn’t do TOO bad with TV-level 3D animation. (They do the LEGO Star Wars/Jurassic World stuff and the later seasons of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark)
Was the marketing like that? I didn't hear anybody talk about this until the trailer dropped and when it did it said it was the start of the tv show... How could they make it more clear? But either way it should be common knowledge now, right? So I can understand people being disappointed that they revived the IP for a kids show instead of a new movie, but no: everybody is like "this Megamind 2 sucks!" It is not Megamind 2, it was never called that! Even this video doesn't seem to acknowledge the tv show and at no point it calls this tv pilot anything other than "Megamind 2". What is wrong with everybody!

im so confused why the prison would allow people with powers to just walk around freely. with this logic the guards in the first movie would have just allowed megamind to walk around the prison with all his gear because they seem to be fine with a giant knight in full armor and lava monster just walking around like nothings going to happen.

It would've been better if "Keiko" was just another "Superhero Fankid" and wannabe just like her favorite hero but she can not, cuz she's a child. Also add an interesting arc for Keiko, instead of making her just "the plot guide"?
I feel like they blew the _entire_ animation budget on the facial expressions at 8:49. Every other shot has every character about as expressive as a wax mannequin.
Prediction for Megamind 3: Megamind has a secret sister that his former "mentor" has teamed up with, and she's twice as smart, twice as powerful and all round better than her brother in every way. Megamind will be completely helpless against her and will resort to infusing Roxanne with the Metroman powers he still has stored in the gun from the first film.

Nah the real Megamind sequel is gonna be one that has the og cast, a proper budget, and releases in theaters. Not this straight to streaming bs. The people who were working on the movie should be banned from ever making the movie especially with such iconic characters. idea: make the antagonist be someone who doesnt believe megamind has actually made a change for the good and is using the doom syndicate to try and cause megamind to reveal how his is still evil by having them pretend to be looking to recruit megamind after he defeated metroman
It would be one thing if the Doom Syndicate was rewritten to be villains that grew up in the shadows and admired Megamind’s villainy. But try to overthrow Megamind when they find out he’s a good guy.

The movie felt like one of those movie pilots like The Return of Jafar, Tangled: Before Ever After, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. I guess the Doom Syndicate will continue to be villains since they'll be in the show, but wouldn't be surprise if they turn a new leaf in the series finale of the show.
I do have a sort of soft spot for return of jafar (even though the animation style of jafar still creeps me out a little) I say that because it’s just so hilariously bad it’s laughable! If I had to pick a counterpart FOR ME AT LEAST, it would be all three of the beauty and the beast straight to dvd movies. THEY MASSACRED MY BOY SO BAD IN THOSE. what’s even worse? Honestly Return of Jafar and the Tarzan sequel that was just 3 episodes of the series slapped together with a loose narrative were the first things I thought of when I saw this get announced. It let me be willing to potentially forgive the drop in animation quality, but man, the rest of it isn’t great. Lol But hey, the Clone Wars movie and the Tarzan sequel that kicked their series off werent particularly great either. Maybe Megamind Rules will at least have a couple decent episodes.

Him disregarding and mistreating chum so casually is outright character assassination. He did that once in the original and it was after a big fight over him falling in love. That's what it took in the original. And after that he learned his lesson and truly regretted sending him off, as a friend, not his minion. And they just undo all of that and have him act like he's not even there now. Cool.

If that was the context behind this movie that would make it hilarious.
The point was that it was just Megamind and Metroman all this time, the only two aliens on earth, making them unique, special. This is why Megamind gets lonely, this is why he needs to CREATE a new hero, not find one. For a new villain it should’ve been a NEW villain in universe as well, perhaps inspired by when Megamind was a villain who is upset he’s a hero now and tries to get him to be a villain again if you want to do a similar plot to this for whatever reason.

Yeah, devoted fans come for good quality writing, story telling, character development and the great thing we loved at first over all. It sucks that companies think they can put out cheap crap under the name of something great and call it the same thing(Lookin' at u Disney). In my mind and in the mind of the fandom, Megamind 2 doesn't exist.
Especially with a franchise that only became a cult classic years after it's release. Megamind was a new IP with no established characters to carry it on nostalgia value alone. Megamind became a beloved movie because it was smartly written, hilarious, ahead of it's time with the Nice-Guy plotline, and genuine. Viewers pick up on things like that, the WRITING was what made Megamind so good, this slapping a blue Jimmy Neutron jpg over an episode of Cocomelon is an insult to the original movie and the fanbase it developed.

Here's what I think Megamind 2 should've been about. It should've been about Megamind earning Metrocity's trust. I imagine that even after defeating Titan, there would still probably be people who wouldn't trust him because of his villainous past. I mean, Metrocity still thinks he killed MetroMan. It could be about Megamind adjusting to being a hero, but the town having trouble fully trusting him. The stigma could've even spread to Roxanne when a rumor starts popping up that she was secretly Megamind's girlfriend the whole time and might have been an accomplice in MetroMan's death. Maybe the antagonist of the film could be people trying to avenge MetroMan's death. I feel like it's a huge missed opportunity.

But it's kinda silly to base the whole confusion of the film on Metro Man supposedly being dead. All it takes is one cameo to confirm he's still alive. Or a video chat where he's playing guitar, streamed to the city so they know he isn't dead.

So even if he did come out publicly with his music, there is a high chance: maybe he has a new alias, or maybe if he did come out, people wouldn't believe him, thinking him to be a "fake."

Ok here's how I'd do it.
The Doom Syndicate are not Megamind's colleagues, but instead his diehard fans. They were outcasts just like he was and so they modeled their identities around villainy as he did. The syndicate, Megamind realizes, are trying to push him onto the same pedestal he put Metroman on. Megamind has to try to convince them to abandon their evil ways whilst keeping the city free from crime in the meantime. Remove the self insert, throw in more scenes with Minion/Chum and Megamind strategizing, and have Roxanne try to play up the conflict for Megamind since he loves his presentation.

That post-credit scene stings the most to me, because I really enjoyed that Megamind was raised by those, very sweet and caring, inmates and build his doomsday devives as a way to express himself, like any child would.

I wish there was a singular villain, and he broke out of jail with Megamind as their biggest inspiration. But then he feels betrayed upon finding out Megamind is no longer a villain, but a hero, and seeks out to destroy the entire city with megamind included to prove they are the better villain.

If they had a real budget, I wouldn’t mind the existence of the doom syndicate. However I think their backstory should be that they were inspired by Megamind’s old villainy days as opposed to the dumb plot point that they were his old crew. It would play out so much better and be consistent timeline wise. Imagine the conflict being that Megamind experiences more consequences for his past actions and learning to turn the doom syndicate into hero’s like himself. Or having Megamind become 50/50 split on what is actually better, a hero or villain. How sad is it that this is a better idea than the story this multimillion company could do?

Incredibles 2 had a bigger focus on the family part of the incredibles. It definitely wasnt as good as the 1st movie amd it had a lame villain, but lots of parts were still kinda good.

Most of the backlash coud've been easily avoided if the early rumour of a sequel were spoken by a marketing team and said "it is gonna be a kid's tv show." A la penguins of madagascar, it is pratically identical in animation style (and quality, 10 years later and we still haven't found a company that knows how to make good shit on a budget) I bet people would've been upset, but then brush it off, but the marketing for this was "hey! This is the new megamind movie you were all wanting!"
Atomic Cartoons doesn’t do TOO bad with TV-level 3D animation. (They do the LEGO Star Wars/Jurassic World stuff and the later seasons of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark)
Was the marketing like that? I didn't hear anybody talk about this until the trailer dropped and when it did it said it was the start of the tv show... How could they make it more clear?

So I can understand people being disappointed that they revived the IP for a kids show instead of a new movie, but no: everybody is like "this Megamind 2 sucks!" It is not Megamind 2, it was never called that! Even this video doesn't seem to acknowledge the tv show and at no point it calls this tv pilot anything other than "Megamind 2". What is wrong with everybody!
The only show that I know that had a really shit budget and actually did well was Kimono Friends.

the part where they said he went to villain school just made me so sad, sad about how little effort was put into this movie. how he grew up is such an important part of his development as the "bad guy" in the only megamind movie we will all ever speak of.

my favorite part is when the first movie had a villain who was basically a super incredibly powerful villain who could wipe out a city without breaking a sweat and was a real threat to anyone on earth and megamind deals with him with good strategy but relatively easily, and the 2nd movie's threat is basically just a couple of barely any powers humans who do nothing and megamind struggles so much with dealing with the doom syndicate its frustrating

The fact that smaller scale producers on UA-cam like glitch productions and others can do a better animating job then multi million dollar companies with hundreds of thousands of dollar budgets is crazy
im so confused why the prison would allow people with powers to just walk around freely. with this logic the guards in the first movie would have just allowed megamind to walk around the prison with all his gear because they seem to be fine with a giant knight in full armor and lava monster just walking around like nothings going to happen.

Prediction for Megamind 3: Megamind has a secret sister that his former "mentor" has teamed up with, and she's twice as smart, twice as powerful and all round better than her brother in every way. Megamind will be completely helpless against her and will resort to infusing Roxanne with the Metroman powers he still has stored in the gun from the first film.

You don't understand, it's actually good writing because it foreshadows this scene 19:22 with the robot parrot sh*tting on screen! Someone on the writing team thought it was so funny, they had to show it twice. Also, why is Megamind upset? He literally built a robot parrot with an a$$ hole and put sh*t in it. If he didn't want that to happen, he didn't have to add that to the robot. It's a joke that makes no sense.

Nah the real Megamind sequel is gonna be one that has the og cast, a proper budget, and releases in theaters. Not this straight to streaming bs. I swear DreamWorks always f*cks up their IP by sending it to streaming. All of them have the same generic plot and story and the same low crap budget. At least (when it comes to streaming content) Disney and Paramount put effort amount into their projects.

The movie felt like one of those movie pilots like The Return of Jafar, Tangled: Before Ever After, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. I guess the Doom Syndicate will continue to be villains since they'll be in the show, but wouldn't be surprise if they turn a new leaf in the series finale of the show.
I do have a sort of soft spot for return of jafar (even though the animation style of jafar still creeps me out a little) I say that because it’s just so hilariously bad it’s laughable! If I had to pick a counterpart FOR ME AT LEAST, it would be all three of the beauty and the beast straight to dvd movies. THEY MASSACRED MY BOY SO BAD IN THOSE. what’s even worse? Honestly Return of Jafar and the Tarzan sequel that was just 3 episodes of the series slapped together with a loose narrative were the first things I thought of when I saw this get announced. It let me be willing to potentially forgive the drop in animation quality, but man, the rest of it isn’t great. Lol
But hey, the Clone Wars movie and the Tarzan sequel that kicked their series off werent particularly great either. Maybe Megamind Rules will at least have a couple decent episodes.
