People always shit on the animation for Hoodwinked!, but considering the fact that the budget was $8 million, most of that money most likely not going to the animation, and all the animators having no experience, they did a damn good job with it in my opinion
Honestly yes, as a kid I was aware that the animation was weird and not as high quality but it never actually came off as bad to me, maybe more "unpolished" which realistically would be way too much to expect for 8mil.
When the lizard says “thanks for comin in have a nice life we’ll give ya a call” I die every time 😂 this is my favorite animated film and I think it’s the most underrated movie of all time. If the animation was too much better we’d have taken every scene too seriously and it would’ve taken away from the hilarity of each character’s wacky point of view.
I saw teams of animators making little bits to fill up the entirety of a movie. I wonder if someone would do the same with Hoodwinked. Like when every 5-10 minutes the animators change, but they're all awesome, not in the least because it's individuals working their asses off anyways. And yeah, btw, for the moment and the low budget, it's a good animation. I've seen "modern" movies that are worse. The Thai team did actually do wonders. I hope some of them continued to work in the field.
Hoodwinked is the kind of movie you can’t hate on. You know exactly how cheesy and wacky it’s gonna be from the poster. And while it’s predictable you can tell the makers had a ton of genuine fun making it. They weren’t concerned with making a masterpiece cause they knew their budget. They just wanted to make people laugh. We need more movies like this
I remember watching it as a kid and loving it. And even to this day still really liking it despite some flaws. It's just a genuine movie like you said. And that reflects in the final product.
As a kid my whole family loved this movie it was hilarious as a kid and had so many things to reference. The goat that sang everything, Grammy that’s really x-tream, the super fast talking squirrel. I still love this move 9/10 this movie was amazing.
Fuck it, the animation at most takes of 1 point, but I easily put that point back for the goat and frog scenes alone. 10/10. Would watch again. Now the sequel though... whooo baby that's another story
@@youngdolo8 I know you're right as I did hear the scene in the video, but for the life of me I could've SWORN it was Dy-na-mi-tey. Must be one of those Berenstain or Berenstein things.
its a crime that this movie is rated so badly. i'll never forget watching this movie for the first time as a kid, its a shame the sequel didnt live up to the first one
I know right I wonder what the sequel would have been like if the animation was better and they did the twist villain again. Because I think they would have made a good twist villain if they actually tried to make the sequel good. who knows the twist villain could have been better then the rabbit (I forgot his name) in the first movie. maybe change the script of the movie to because I am probably the only one who didn't like the script. So basically the sequel was 💩 to me. But let's be real here what would the sequel be like if it was good and had people really trying to make a good sequel. I actually liked the first movie just for your information. I have the first movie and loved it despite the sequel being 💩.
For the record, this movie came out 6 months before Over the Hedge and basically a year before Alvin and the Chipmunks. meaning that this movie was the original Caffeine Squirrel/Squeaky Squirrel movie. (this was my fav movie as a kid)
If I remember, this movie had the best twist ending in any film I've watched so far. Barely any clues, not blatant, and actually shocking, but logical. I loved this movie as a kid, and still do.
I feel the same way. I really liked the movie as a kid and to this day I honestly have good memories of it even though I realize that the visuals aren't what I believed hem to be when I was young. But they get the point across and they tell the relatively complex (for a kid) story in a plenty adequate and entertaining way!
I watched this, then about 10 years later I remembered it then I thought "was that movie real" then I thought nah now I realize that it was real alright and I always thought of that bridge scene
This reminds me of Jossepe’s “Gamer” review. He kept talking about how terrible it was, but honestly, it had an interesting enough concept, GREAT performances, and cool enough fights that when the goofy shit happened, I just found it 10x funnier and it only added to the movie for me. Maybe its way worse watching than it is watching his review, but from what I saw, everything “making the movie garbage” was just adding to the stuff I already liked about the movie
Full honesty: I was in my early 20s when I watched it the first time, and I absolutely loved it. I thought the cheesy animation style was intentional, and it kind of worked with the weirdness of the story. I still sometimes quote it with "dy-na-mi-te" and "I was prepared!"
This movie just reinforces that good writing and delivery are crucial for media. You can tell the writers had a plan from beginning to end, made sure to add small details linking the events together, and properly set up character skills and traits that pay off at the end of the movie.
This movie has never left my head since watching it with a friend when we were kids. After we watched it, I wouldn't stop going around saying, "I WAS PREPARED" every chance I got till my mom asked me to stop; it made me realize it was pretty annoying after the first time. Don't know if it's cause that friend means a lot to me and we still talk, the movie is like a fever dream, or both lmao.
@@zewzitthat’s exactly what brought my boyfriend and I together! We were at a gathering and someone said it. I just heard a voice quietly singing the goat’s song, in perfect cadence and rhythm. This was one of my favorite movies growing up, I watched in about 3 times a week with my siblings, but people around me didn’t like it or didn’t know it all. My boyfriend and I always watch it around the holidays!
Literally my #1 childhood movie. Top tier voice acting, top tier storyline, top toer characters. Still randomly break out into songs from the movie to this day. "TAKE ME OUTTA THE WOODS" lol
This movie was not only very clever and well written, it was also fucking hilarious. Like actually bust out laughing funny rather than casually funny like most animated movies. Also the jarring animation adds to the charm and comedy imo.
I have a very vivid memory of watching this movie at a sleepover party. For some reason, the goat’s song was absolutely hysterical to us. We rewound “there is avalanche and I did not come prepared” at least a dozen times.
same, this movie was playing and this girl had too much sugar (they were like dough puffs with cream on the inside) and was chasing me around with a butter knife trying to stab me lol
also we would pass around a multiple-wrapped present and who ever got to the gift first got to keep it. good times, best slumber parties i ever went to.
I always thought the reason the animals closed shop because they weren't selling anything, because the goody bandit has started mass producing their recipes.
See though the original is so iconic at this point a higher budget version would probably just water it down, gotta admit nothing ever beats the originals!
Hoodwinked is a fucking masterpiece man. I've not seen writing that good since "funny hoodwinked movie kids animal movie? critics say no no bad, me say yes yes good"
This unlocked so many childhood memories for me, namely the dynamite “dee-nah-me-tay!” line, and the “oh an avalanche is coming and I do not feel preparrrrred” song, which I used to make my dad sing and play on his banjo 😆
Yes!! I remember repeating the avalanche line like 30 times in a row because I cracked up at the way he sang it, for some reason 😂 and hearing it again after 15-ish years is so nostalgic!
@@retrozaid1600 Honestly, it could even be a case of getting the same idea independently. Other than spasing out, and the energy drink thing, Twitchy and Hammy are rather different.
The animation for this movie never bothered me. I saw it as an art style more than anything else. I loved the story. I'm more surprised at when the movie came out. 2005? Oof, I'm getting old
I think the only problem I even have now is red, the animals are all at least decent and the characters like the woodman don’t really need to be expressive since they’re purposely flat characters who have just one trait and the writing makes them funny anyway. Obviously they spent much of the money in the trio of the original fairytale but Red is still not good, just decent overall. Knowing how little they have as resources they made a miracle making this movie as impressive, iconic and still enjoyable today. I think the best thing about it is the clever writing to make you laugh, it subvert your expectations constantly and it almost never use easy cliche to make the kids laugh (there’s no character who farts or anything like that) but it actually seems like the writers as adults would only accept jokes that would make them laugh as well.
Fun fact: I absolutely loved this movie as a kid and recently showed it to my little (13 year old) brother and... he absolutely loved it, too. It's quite strange, cause he's a little choosy, but it seems that insteresting plot (it's a warmhearted-child-"Rashomon"-movie) and genuinely funny jokes have him completely
I can tell you, that the Polish dub version of this movie is... gold. They achieved such a level of comedy with that dub, that this film is literally a classic.
@@andrew_wow6892 Ja bym raczej powiedział, że większość jest dość średnia, ale gdy jakiś jest dobry, to jest od razu rewelacyjny. Np Shrek po polsku brzmi moim zdaniem lepiej, niż oryginał.
the animation was fine tho. i dont understand why people keep saying it looks like shit it LOOKS GREAT, besides do you think the majority who got to watch it when it came out so for example me when i was 3 years old do you really think toddlers would get the difference?? lmfaoo
Think about it, though. If they had a Higher Budget, the Story would likely have been much different from what it is now. The Reason the Story is as Good as it is comes from the Low Budget. They didn't have the Money for Mistakes and Redos, meaning the Script had to be as Perfect as Possible to avoid redoing Bits of the Animation. So with a Higher Budget, the Movie could look good, yes, but it could've had a Bad Story as a Result
All these years, I had no idea that the cast was so high profile. The fact that Anne Hathaway played Red somehow feels like arcane, forbidden knowledge.
Though TBF, this was Anne Hathaway when she was still known as the Princess dairy girl. Would be a while before she turned into the tour de force she is today. XD
Well humans are animals and we arent worried of eating meat or butcherhouses .. hell most vegetarian animals arent worried either and will eat meat when given the chance
It's the animation but at least it wasn't as outdated as... Foodfight. Also the bias towards how everything not distributed by Disney or DreamWorks is automatically bad whether it comes from TWC or Lionsgate.
The recipes being lost and running businesses out of town isn’t about the recipes not being remembered-it’s about how the recipes that make each place unique is being stolen which will make less customers for you because another place can make the same thing-it put you in trouble for competition for the very thing that makes you unique. Even the best chefs understand it isn’t a great idea to share your secrets unless you plan to retire or have someone you want to continue your legacy.

If the animation was too much better we’d have taken every scene too seriously and it would’ve taken away from the hilarity of each character’s wacky point of view.
Someone ought to reanimate Hoodwinked professionally so the story remains excellent, and the style meets the story's excellency.
Reanimated Collaboration! Let's goooooo!!

I feel the same way. I really liked the movie as a kid and to this day I honestly have good memories of it even though I realize that the visuals aren't what I believed hem to be when I was young. But they get the point across and they tell the relatively complex (for a kid) story in a plenty adequate and entertaining way!

Full honesty: I was in my early 20s when I watched it the first time, and I absolutely loved it. I thought the cheesy animation style was intentional, and it kind of worked with the weirdness of the story. I still sometimes quote it with "dy-na-mi-te" and "I was prepared!"
I find my self singing "Be prepared, be prepared..." with a southern accent more often than I am comfortable admitting and I am 30 now lol

This movie just reinforces that good writing and delivery are crucial for media. You can tell the writers had a plan from beginning to end, made sure to add small details linking the events together, and properly set up character skills and traits that pay off at the end of the movie.

No, look, Hoodwinked first premiered at a film festival at Los Angeles in December 2005 and was officially released in theaters January 2006

Think about it, though. If they had a Higher Budget, the Story would likely have been much different from what it is now. The Reason the Story is as Good as it is comes from the Low Budget.
