My favorite part about this scene is as Megamind is running away, he's yelling "Time out" like it's a game and he's a child because he never got the opportunity to grow up

Megamind and Metroman are always Friendly Rivals,
The Hero always wins against the Villain, but the Villain always escapes and terrorize Civilians, you expect the Hero to send him to a MORE secure prison or just kill him in the spot, but sends him to the same prison when the villain always escapes.
From the evidence ive know, Megamind doesnt Kill People, he just creates Crazy Inventions and just terrorize a bunch of people and destroy a few buildings for fun, so that the 'Hero' will join in too to stop him.
The Hero very much knows that Megamind is just having Fun, he doesnt kill People, but just annoys them by making up their City Funds (aka building casualties) and lets not forget what makes him a SuperVillain:
      *PRESENTATION*
Thats why Megaming and Metroman exchanges Counter Quotes like Children playing Villain and Hero, Of course Metroman is a very Mature Adult, while Megamind doesnt want to grow up and wants to have fun, this makes up to Metroman's Retirement to become a Person, a Music Man rather than a SuperHero he was born to be.
Now.. Lets talk about Hal, he's a Insecure, Obssesive, Incel.
Now pair that with Metroman's Dna?
He's an actual Villain, no, not a Villain, a Mental God-Driven Asshole,
Pair that with his Obsessive and Insecure Nature, you get an Unstoppable Force with no one to stop him with Words.
      *'Titan'* ,Is NOT playing games.

Yet another praise for the movie is that Metroman's weakness was never copper. He didn't have one. However, he saw an opportunity to fake his death, rightly assumed the material of the dome imprisoning him and made a rapid claim (though false): "My weakness is copper". That's why Titan manages to escape the metal ball. Yes, he was fueled by his hatred for Megamind, but it wasn't any different from him than cement on a street or bricks on a building
Him breaking out not only serves to genuinely scare the audience and Megamind, but also foreshadow to the true fate of Metroman and show that he survived

What’s especially noticeable is how Hal and Metro Man use their powers. Metro was much like superman and was careful not to break anything if he could help it and even added a stylish flare or two. Hal on the other hand cares not for any restraint and rips everything apart just because.

    • @calsalitra4689

Especially considering that Metro Man is practically infinitely stronger than Hal. Metro Man can take a casual jaunt around the city playing with kites, reading books, having an existential crisis, and get back to where he was fast enough for the camera to barely even register he was gone at all. And for all the power that comes from that speed (and also durability) he's about as gentle as a superhero can be. Hal doesn't have even a fraction of the ability that Metro Man does, and all he uses it for is destruction.

He may be a fool, but he's a nigh indestructible fool fuelled by obsession and blind, petty rage. The more I think about it, I realize that past some of his funny lines, he's a pretty dark villain for a PG film. He's a lustful, obsessive maniac that's willing to brutally murder to get his way. He was fully willing to liquefy Megamind's face, not because Megamind is a bad guy, but for the purely petty and selfish reason that Megamind "stole his girl" when said girl was never his to begin with. But in his head, Hal assumed they were dating because of how "nice" he was to her and even because he has powers now. He can't understand that she doesn't love him. I like to think that Metro Man figured Megamind out a long time ago and was only going along with it just because, for a while, it brought some semblance of purpose and enjoyment to the both of them, not just Megamind, and it's because he knew Megamind really wasn't as big a monster and villain that he plays himself up as that Metro Man felt he could risk faking his death so that he could pursue something else that would make him happy. And, along the way more or less force Megamind to realize that, in as much as he loved playing the villain, he's really a much more heroic person than he thinks he is, and up until the point of MM faking his death that, that entire time, it was more of just a game between the two of them.

MetroMan’s abandonment of his duties is very relatable. Ask any nurse, teacher, service worker, caretaker, firefighter, etc. Aka jobs that we often refer to as heroes of our society. These are incredibly demanding jobs that are always short staffed for a reason. Self-sacrifice for the greater good is altruistic and all, but failure to draw the right boundaries leads to depression and other mental and often physical health problems. That does make sense too. For me, I feel that most of his realization comes from the scene where he’s using his super speed. He knows that Megamind isn’t dangerous for sure, but he definitely was caught up in the role he was in and the admiration. From a child to an adult, he can be a little smug at times, and he didn’t think much outside of his role for a while until he really reflected on it. It’s not unreasonable that he decides to become Music Man, and luckily, things turn out fine because Megamind is good at heart. Definitely a big jump to just fake his death and scare everyone though, but while his plan is a bit flawed, it gives Megamind a chance to reflect and do the right thing.

I agree, that's the scene that really differentiated this movie right away from not just animated movies but superhero movies in general.
The tone in "You want to _team up_ ?" really makes you understand as a viewer just how genuinely awful Tighten is that even Megamind is appalled at what he's hearing.
And although we, the viewer, are aware that Tighten is out to kill Megamind, the movie doesn't make you feel any real dread until Tighten rips his way out of the copper cage. At that point both Megamind and the viewer are genuinely uncertain of his fate at the mercy of this evil Metroman he's created. I still remember thinking in my head just like Megamind, _oh hell, Tighten's not weak to copper_ and wondering how the hell he was going to solve this. Theres not much to talk about, megamind is not trying to survive the situation by saying this, he is simply reminding hal of his mistake while also answering his accusation of "This is the last time you make a fool out of me!"

Genius movie, the thought of an angry incel getting superman's powers is scary, and this movie was before online incels gained national media attention, not to mention how genuinly surprising it was for me at least that Hal would become the villain. I'm glad this movie is getting more recognition now, it's so much more creative than most other superhero garbage movies that has been coming out in recent years

I always like those scenes where the character is going so fast they world slows down, but if you really think about it a bit, that means their perception of time is really "slow", so a simple conversation is actually like an eternity. Unless their power is to control their bodies perception of time, so they can run on normal speed, and then hit the turbo button.

could be more like reactions. if you've ever caught something falling or narrowly dodged a soccer ball to the face or something, you may have experience something similar. I certainly have before. it's like the adrenalin pumps and you're so much more aware and in that moment the world slows down.

Compare that to Red Rush from Invincible. The world is constantly in slow motion for him because he's so fast. He even says that mere conversation is excruciating because for his perception, people talk very slowly.
I also realized that it creates a small plot hole. Red Rush should be very much faster than Omni-Man and yet Nolan caught him easily. It made much more sense in the comics when Nolan ambushed the entire team and murdered them all in the blink of an eye before any of them realized it.

    • @TGPDrunknHick
      @TGPDrunknHick Рік тому +1

@@AdderTude true as well. I believe Marvels Quicksilver has a similar thing and that's actually one of the reasons he's a dick. he's so irritable because of his perception.
also yeah plot holes are unfortunately a thing when you adapt things. what works on page doesn't always work properly in animation and that can cause story problems. Same for the reverse.

It was just so nice to have peaks into the realistic psychological features about good and evil. That megamind didn’t actually like winning and missed having something to try and accomplish every day. Metroman grew tired and run down from constantly saving the city and felt trapped to the point of escape. Hal was very human and morally corrupt yet endowed with powers he abused when he didn’t get his way.
Mega and metro knowing each other from babies and their good/evil dynamic just being how they spent time together and were good friends in the end is so wholesome.

One thing that my nephew and I always have a debate on is pronunciations of words (mostly how to pronounce Hydrocity from Sonic 3)
Once Megamind was mispronouncing his words, we got a kick out of it. But once the scene appeared when Megamind disguised himself to be Metro Man and scare off Titan then Titan comes back because Megamind accidentally said "Metrocity" instead of Metro City, I had to pause the film because I was laughing for 3 minutes straight. It was such a genius scene that had me nearly dying from laughter xD

This certainly subverts the Superman trope better than Brightburn and The Boys did. Though I do compare Snotty Kid to Homelander myself, at least Homelander had some control over his emotions, even if it's to subtly make those closest to him suffer on a deep level. Despite Hal's curly hair and muscular double chin, it's his expressions that brilliantly bring across his unbridled fury.

I'm willing to bet that most the people who came here had already seen the movie, and already were of the opinion of it's greatness in character development and storytelling and just wanted to see how someone else would also contribute to the dialogue. 10/10 breakdown of this scene and one of the movie's themes.

Imo, the scene that really flips the movie is actually the 'scene' before this, and I would call it "Roxanne's Date".
She's working late, and suddenly realizes that Megamind is working on a project called Titan, only for Titan Hal to show up at her door. You get to see the gears in her head start to turn, and we already know that she knows this won't end well, even before she knows it's Hal. Unfortunately for the meathead, her warning about the danger he's in goes unheard, so she turns to the only other person we've seen in her life, 'Bernard'. Even Megamind was too focused on the girl to listen to her warning (about Hal not being the greatest person) and to be fair she becomes very distracted and fails to explain herself once she finds out who exactly she's been dating.
Roxanne becomes the linch-pin to the climax of the film, because at this point she's the only character who has all the pieces, just like the audience, so there's literally no way things could've gone any differently than they did because of "Roxanne's Date" scene. It's only fitting then that she plays a critical role in helping Megamind eventually defeat Hal.
