I hate the fake pop "stars" of today, all lip-synch and dance routines. Prince was a master musician and he would take anybody in his prime! He had a great 30 year run, I remember the funk of Minneapolis Sound, especially No More Candy 4 U! This was in 2009!

Purple Stardust this guy was unbelievable when watching him you know there is a God who put him here for a reason .I can't believe he gone either but his spirit is here forever
Not one but The Best ! 13 times live on stage only confirmed what I already knew after the First ! He is way above everyone else and if they would put there egos aside they will all Admit
Sid Lutz James Brown is none other than The Godfather of Soul! But if he and his band were on stage right now from the past, he would kick up his shoes, and dance like it’s nothin’!!
the greatest who ever did it...hands down. I dont give a fuck who you go get. You cant put them in front of Prince. Yes...he loved the Godfather...yes...Larry Graham was one of his mentors and idols....yes, he loved Jimi, Sly and Little Richard, too. And he had a lot of respect for the energy that punk, brought to the table. But his talent, skill and uniqueness, stands alone. He was a very VISUAL artist...he made you keep your eyes on him. But lets not forget his INCREDIBLE gift for songwriting and innuendo. Prince was one of 'the masters", truly. And one of the better guitarists Ive ever seen.
All his bands were tight because Prince set the tone, kept the standard high and practiced constantly. The Revolutionary is just his most famous due mostly to Purple Rain film.
This is a prime example of the results people get when they not only hone their craft but love their craft as well. But keep in mind you have to put in the work.
When Around the World in a Day came out, Purple Rain was still riding high in the public conscience. It was hard for some people who were stuck in a Purple Rain daze to move forward with Prince. Then just the next year he released the remarkable album Parade, which people really weren't ready for, (especially the film which was basically ignored). Prince had grown so much in short a short period of time that many fans got left behind. Even Sign O The Times was ahead of the curve. Then came The Black Album and Love Sexy, (and Madhouse 1 and 2). Many people were still discovering 1999 and Purple Rain, and Prince had moved so far into the future. It wasn't until the Batman soundtrack that the general public was ready to except something new. IMO, Parade and Sign O The Times, bookend albums, were oozing with masterpieces and was his most productive period. And then there were the many hits Price wrote for others. He could of made an album of #1 hits just on the music he gave to others. Prince, from 1980 to 1987 reached as far as any musician ever had into his mind and didn't come out for a very long time. Only Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Steely Dan and a few others ever dared to go this distance to discover genius. I'm so glad Prince did. Peace!
true but your forgetting about david bowie he had an impressive run of good to great albums during the 70s arguably even better than stevie wonder's run during the 70s
I love how he just starts to play the drums at 7:49. Before Purple Rain, I just thought of him as a somewhat strange soul singer with a falsetto. What I didn't realize was how much he was growing from "I Wanna Be Your Lover" through both Controversy and the monster double-album 1999 to come up with the perfect entry to the genius of Purple Rain. When I saw the video for When Doves Cry, I knew I had to see the movie. Summer of 84, the first song, Let's Go Crazy, I thought was too noisy. That dissonant piano. All that screaming. I was used to smooth Michael, not this musical demon unleashed on the stage and setting it on fire. And then he played the Beautiful Ones, and I was hooked for life. Computer Blue. A thousand other songs later and my piano and guitars will never forget all the joy this man gave me and my loved ones. Thank you for changing my life. I hope you one time saw us laughing in the dawn of your talent and musical gifts you shared with the world.
I notice Bobby Z’s drum kit was a combination of both the Simmons SDS-V drum pads triggering the Linn LM-1 & the acoustic cymbals blended together! Amazing! 🔥🔥💜💜
Prince never made music we wanted to hear. We wanted to hear the music Prince made. There a big difference. His music was always challenging the fans to open their ears, hearts and minds. No matter how many times I hear a Prince song, my ears, my heart and my mind are all opened a bit further. How many times has Prince given us a new song and after we listened to it we felt like, “What the f@&k did Prince just do?” There are times that on the first listen, the song overwhelms me, no matter how simple the song’s composition is. Like when I first heard the song Kiss. Blown away and a bit confused on what Prince gave us. Part of my mind still wonders but my ears and my heart figured it out. And Prince is the only musician that could challenge me like that. And by the way, I’m a 55 year old metal head and Prince is still my favorite.
Prince and The Revolution were incredible. The New Power Generation were very good. Fantastic medley of instruments that work in sweet harmony. A high-energy performance from Prince where he must've felt on top of the world! Tyler James Wilson: 27, severly Autistic, Depressed and ♿️. "Nice to meet you" 🙂🤝.
OMG! Prince was the greatest to ever be in the realm of music! The video footage of him and the Revolution performing America in Nice, France just proves this! This is so hard, funky and badass! The only way to describe what this man did is pure genius! We had a genius like this on our Earth for many years creating a bunch incredible music and we lost him in 2016 and this Prince fan can't even take that he is gone! I am happy his videos are being put up back on UA-cam so future generations can see how brilliant this man really was!
That's what I'm trying to tell this younger generation of folks, that this is how it's done! Try to learn something from Prince's performance and you'll be headed i n the right direction
I posted this on Facebook on the day after Prince died. That particular page asked folks for their feelings and opinions about Prince. This is the description of my first Prince concert. I attended four, all told. I had my doubts about this Prince guy. I liked “Soft & Wet,” cause girls went all buttery when it came on, and they let you put your hands on them while you danced. The falsetto was problematic, but Smokey Robinson had done pretty well for himself, so I let it go. All I saw of him was still pictures, so I saw the hair and soulful eyes, but I ain’t automatically go to male hatred of pretty guys, cause he played guitar well, and I’m a rock guy (Van Halen is my favorite rock group). I figured he had to be a regular guy, more or less. I would have a chance to see him up close and personal, because he’s coming to Jacksonville with Rick James, the King Of Punk Funk! I LOVED Rick James, absolutely loved him. He took funk to a new level; he did what he wanted to, said what he wanted to, and looked like he wanted to. He smoked weed unapologetically, sometimes onstage; his latest album was named “Fire It Up,” after all. I hoped that the new guy could hang onstage, that Rick wouldn’t blow the kid away with pyrotechnics. Lenny White is an established jazz drummer, with a neat slice of funk named “Peanut Butter,” but I couldn’t pick him out of a lineup at gunpoint. He came on stage while I was getting my head right in the low seats of the Jacksonville Coliseum. It would only take a few minutes to wend my way up to front row center if I left a little before Lenny finished playing. Just have to be persistent. As Lenny White ended, I was in place. I was a little to the right of center, about four rows back. Perfect. I’ve always liked to be close to the stage; I like to see the expressions on the artist’s face, hear their voices over the mikes. Bands had talent back then, they could stand the scrutiny. But, I digress. That Prince guy was about to come on. Let’s see what this purty muhfucka was all about. The band came onstage generically, except for how they looked: Dez and Andre looked like they could have been in Led Zeppelin, if Led Zeppelin had Black guys in it. Lisa looked like she was out cheating on her richass, old husband. Fink was in full doctor regalia, complete with jet-black shades, and Bobby Z looked much too cool to be the drummer. They all just strolled on stage with the house lights only partly dimmed, followed by this little dude who I swore seemed like he had an aura around him as he walked to the middle mike. He had on a little lacy shirt (more like a blouse, really), thigh-high woolen leg-warmers, leading into high-heeled black boots with stars at the ankles, along with black bikini briefs. A palpable gasp echoed through the crowd, and a deep, street-wise voice rang out, ”Lookit this faggot muthafucka!” Prince ain’t move for about thirty seconds, just looking out over the crowd; then, he widened his stance, and ripped into the opening notes of one of the deep cuts on his second album, “Bambi.” I was startled at how loud it was; keep in mind, I had been to an AC/DC concert, and they ain’t have shit on how loud Prince played that night. And every hit was played in a long version. I was soaking wet after dancing to “Sexy Dancer,” and he ain’t had even got to “Soft & Wet” yet. He damn near blew the roof off the sucker when he played “I Wanna Be Your Lover;” those guitar licks sounded far deeper and crunchier live. Close to the end of his set, he took off his little shirt, and threw it out over the crowd. The lady in front of me thought she had a clean shot at it, but I’m 6’4”, and a basketball player then, so I reached over her and grabbed it. She called me all kinds of sissies because I wouldn’t give it back to her, but I guess I thought that shirt would be worth something later on, because in less than an hour, I was convinced that Prince would be our next big rock star. After he finished, a voice came over the loudspeaker telling us that whoever caught the shirt would be allowed to meet Prince. I walked over to the gate, showed the shirt and was let in. His dressing room was spare, with the band scattered around; I shook everybody’s hand, Prince asked me if I enjoyed the show, I said yes, and was quickly ushered away. I guess had I been a girl, I would have been treated a bit more cordially, but I understood. For a little fella, he sure had a big presence. When I walked back out to the floor, the crowd had dissipated, almost as if it was over. Everybody had taken a seat in the stands, because Prince had wore them out. It took Rick about thirty minutes and four songs before folks gradually came back out on the floor. I heard later that Rick had gotten really angry with Prince for showing him up, that Prince had been stealing Rick’s onstage moves, and often went over time as an opening act. It was a beef that lasted until Rick’s death. I went to three more Prince shows after that one: the Controversy tour, 1999 show, and the Musicology extravaganza. I would have gone to see him every time he came, even if both of us were on walkers. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he is no longer breathing the same air as me. But I guess that he’s through looking for the purple banana, since they put him in the truck. But he left the world better than he found it, if only for his being in it. Good night, sweet Prince; may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest…
Stevie Del Ray A beautiful story you are so lucky to have met him and experienced that genius at work. Love how as a baller you caught that shirt. Also what stood out for me was Prince's quiet reaction to heckler then blew everyone away. If you ever commented on a Prince concert i hope he saw it because you speak for many of us.
To me, this is when Prince letitallgo. He shed much of the trappings of his early career-journey, and, with the momentum that PurpleRain gave him...he just took off into the stratosphere. This video literally changed my life...
Stesia88 I've read comments from some implying that Wendy wasn't the caliber of guitarist that should be playing with Prince. I have huge respect for her, as I do for the other members of the Revolution. Prince always surrounded himself with strong and talented musicians, if they were good enough to play with and be chosen by Prince that says a lot... and they're good enough for me!
Wendy was just 21 years old at this performance. Just imagine being that young and actually having the honor to be in his band. She's playing his guitar, by the way.
JWD1012 she completely kicks ass plain and simple! I know playing, dancing and singing at the same time can't be easy. I sure wish I'd have gotten to see Prince and the Revolution live. 😢
I finally figured out why exactly I appreciated Prince so much besides his music. He really really demonstrated an enthusiasm while performing. There is an old school joy in selling a song he understood to his core. Look at a lot of the old school Motown, James Brown performers, they all were well trained to sell the hell out of a song, not just perform it. It so crazy to realize that most of their performances were so well rehearsed that they came off as spontaneous.

Even his lighting was worth the price of admission!!! Some artist today only are concerned with their checks..
I hate the fake pop "stars" of today, all lip-synch and dance routines. Prince was a master musician and he would take anybody in his prime! He had a great 30 year run, I remember the funk of Minneapolis Sound, especially No More Candy 4 U! This was in 2009!
One of the conspiracy theories I hav about his...leaving us all...whether or not he was forced to (yeah), is that he made these packaged-performers of today look terrible. Geez. The choreography for the band is crazy. This man was truly a genius
Peace!

Time is a trick
I saw Prince played the drums and HE ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get down wit yo bad self!! Or should I say ROCK ON PRINCE!!!
My National anthem
He was his time. Heck, in truth, he was also the Time (he just Morris play).
Amazing! 🔥🔥💜💜
The coolest live drum sound ever. 💜🥁🖤
Electric performance!

Venancia Hopkins Oui
No Doubt! He is simply AMAZING!
@Yusuf Ibrahim He's used that before, it was an instruction to his band to make the ending "big & showy".
Stevie Del Ray, Really great story.
The last 2 sentences are beautifully said. Thanks👁️
Stevie Del Ray A beautiful story you are so lucky to have met him and experienced that genius at work. Love how as a baller you caught that shirt. My favorite prince live performance ever. He was in his own zone this night. He did not want to stop performing. Love it.
Wendy is feeling this one. Loving her energy!
Don't know how anybody who has seen the Syracuse concert could doubt her ability.
Wendy was just 21 years old at this performance. Just imagine being that young and actually having the honor to be in his band. She's playing his guitar, by the way.
And her necklace! 💜
JWD1012 she completely kicks ass plain and simple! I know playing, dancing and singing at the same time can't be easy. I sure wish I'd have gotten to see Prince and the Revolution live. 😢

The truth.
Holy Frijoles! I love everything about this performance, thank you for uploading! Prince is the best artist of all time!
Prince and The Revolution. I'm honored to say I went to the Controversy tour, 1999 tour, and Purple Rain tour. The live performances were amazing.
Prince was not a prince but a king !
