This amazing performance of “17 Days” was captured on April 28, 2011 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. The fan favorite was originally released as the B-side to “When Doves Cry” and Prince performs it here with his 2011-era lineup of the New Power Generation, including Shelby J., Liv Warfield, Elisa Fiorillo, and Morris Hayes, additional keyboardists Renato Neto and Cassandra O’Neal, bassist Ida Nielsen, drummer John Blackwell, and dancers Maya and Nandy McClean (The Twinz). The song includes a fun segue into the band covering Teena Marie’s “Lovergirl” from her 1984 album Starchild. The complete performance of this live concert is included in the Deluxe Edition of Welcome 2 America, the highly anticipated first full complete album released from Prince’s legendary Paisley Park vault. Recorded in the spring of 2010 and then mysteriously archived by Prince, the statement album documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice.
The Deluxe Edition includes the complete studio vault album on both CD and black vinyl (accompanied with a hi-res digital download). The black vinyl edition will have music on three sides and a collectible etching on the fourth side. The live concert video, presented in 1080p HD with stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos audio, was captured midway through his legendary marathon “21 Nite Stand” at The Forum and this performance documents the spontaneity and incendiary energy of that historic portion of the Welcome 2 America Tour - an audiovisual testament to the proclamation he made at the launch of the tour in October, 2010, stating “Bring friends, bring Ur children, and bring foot spray, because… it’s gonna B funky.”
Besides “17 Days,” the performance features covers of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” Janet Jackson’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately” and Roxy Music’s “More Than This” alongside Prince favorites including “Controversy,” “1999,” “Purple Rain” and many more. The Deluxe Edition of Welcome 2 America will be presented as a luxe gold-foil package designed by GRAMMY-nominated artist Mathieu Bitton and GRAMMY-nominated creative director and Prince associate Trevor Guy, complete with a 12”x12” 32-page companion book and embossed vellum envelope containing exclusive Welcome 2 America era ephemera (photographic art print, 23”x36” poster, replica setlist, ticket, VIP invitation and backstage passes). Experienced as a complete package, the Deluxe Edition provides a multidimensional and immersive view of Prince’s creative genius during his spontaneous, energetic, and thought-provoking Welcome 2 America era.

This is one of the dopest version of "17 days" I ever heard!
Same here. This has to be the best
Im 18 wish i had these type of music in my generation.

Real music by real musicians.

@@peacemakerburner5121 Sonny T. is Prince's most important influence. Find him, he is still alive. A musical treasure, talent and multi instrumentalist just like Pribce, he was the mark to aim for in Minneapolis!

My one regret in life is i never witness an icon do work while he was alive😢
There ain't a musician on the planet that could fuck with Prince. The next level after Prince is Heaven. I know the Lord Has a band in Heaven that will Rock The House and now Prince is Leading that band.
OH HOW I IMAGINE THAT ‼️ YAS-SSS INDEEEDY I CAN ‼️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@druscillalee2183 Thatz a show that is STANDIN ROOM ONLY......
What a ridiculous thing to say: there are countless wonderful musicians on this earth you won’t even know exist because you have never listened to them.
Just say you like Prince. Don’t pretend you know who is a great musician
@@christophervaughan2637 A mind is a terrible thing to waste. What a shame. 🤣🤣
@@shaservI am supposed to look up to your mind when you don’t address the obvious point that you don’t even know most of the great musicians on the planet and make a judgment of cultural preference as if it’s a fact?

I was there and was healed through the Holy Spirit of Music. I had checked myself out of a spine surgery aftercare Centre and get myself to THIS FUNKY MUNKY. My main man - King Prince Rodgers Nelson. I am now healed and singing stronger than ever!

R.I.P. John Blackwell Jr, best live drummer from his generation.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@feldspar3858 what's funny?
@@schoovaertssimon7904 - Best drummer??? That’s rich!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@@feldspar3858 I said "Live of his time ( so the 90s/2000s mostly)" , and in my experience ( I have seen hundreds and hundreds of concerts, and seen him twice) yes he was, I can't think of a better drummer to have behind you if you're a funk/pop singer....except legends like Ed Greene or Steve Gadd but those are drummer from a different era.He had Incredible groove, sound and knew how to stand out the way of the singer and work the song ( even tho he could have easily used every trick in the book and show off his technique if he had the bad taste of doing that). that's what great drummers do. the man died incredibly young and I really don't get what the smileys are for.
@@schoovaertssimon7904 - So Shelia E, Tony Thompson, and Morris Day aren’t good drummers? Gotcha. 🙄

I've loved Prince from the first time I heard him.
This is what a real musician looks like 💯

Absolutely the best artist ever born

No doubt! 💜

Without question
Absolutely
Prince is my favorite artist and this is one of my most favorite performances
This performance was amazing I'm watching it but I felt like I was actually there. Love Prince
Yes, that's the way it seems when you watch his concerts. It feels like you're actually there.
Been a Prince fan since ‘78. The crazy thing about Prince was that he was a bada$$ out the gate with his music & showmanship and continued to get better and better until the very end. The collection of concerts over the course of the last decade of his life I’ve seen on UA-cam are masterclasses of perfection. A master and certainly transcendent. One of the greats and very best.
100% agree with you.
Beautifully said! Prince was a special treasure to us!! Our musical Mozart!! Genius artist!! Omg!! 💔❤️❤️💜💜💜💜💜🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💔💔💋💋🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

The interpolation with TEENA MARIE kills meeeeee WTF YESSSS
This was just a B-side. For me one of his best tracks he ever made🔥🔊👍
It truly is
When it was released to radio I can vividly remember constantly calling the radio station to request it then record it every time. The 80s was so special for music.
Ida on bass and she’s killing it. He played with only the finest musicians
Yes
Real music, by real musicians!!!!YESSSS❤
I will forever be purple n share his music
The fact he rarely played some of his songs but still remembered how to play them is what trips me out. Some bands with the best musicians admit they forget how to play some songs thats why they just say fuck it lol dude was something else for real.
That man WAS music!!!! I understand what you saying though
Prince is the most creative, fantastic and complete musician that ever lived.
Frank Zappa was his league. no doubt
Fantastic performance! His B sides are better than most of the filler that showed up on other artists albums !
@Tony Receipts please. Where was this sampling?
Ô louco, bicho. Acha mesmo?
Paul McCartney...
that bass tone is out of this world
Ida the bassist is an awsome musician!
Prince wrote and sang “Nothing Compares to You” long before Sinéad O’Connor ran with it in the late’90s. It was always Prince’s song and the flowers in his mother’s backyard hxxx
God damn why didn’t I see this man live when I had the chance. He had the best musical mind ever. Like the best musician of all time. Change my mind.
It’s a little too late to change your mind to see him live now, unfortunately. 😉
But, if it’s any consolation… even pumping this through Dolby digital surround sound and streaming it on a 100 inch 8k screen, STILL doesn’t compare to a live performance.
The camera isn’t capable of capturing the dynamic energy that flowed from this man. He was the BEST.
The best thing about seeing Prince back in the day, was that You could buy front row or almost front row through sheer determination. Just be first in line at a Ticketmaster. This usually meant going there around 9pm and “camping out” overnight until the next morning when ticket sales started at 10am. You brought a blanket and parked your bum on the sidewalk outside the door. And the kicker? The front rows tickets were the same price as any main floor. I paid about $80/ticket

Would have been amazing. I was into metal, but music, "good music," "by real musicians," is the freaking truth.
This is exactly why he was, is and always will be, 'the best! Simple. What a banging version of a brilliant track! A 'B' side!! Really!? His 'b' sides are other artists dreams!
Exactly! His b sides were high quality. Check out she's always in my hair!
Exactly!
Seriously
I'm gonna throw 'Erotic City' in there as another great 'B' side! One of my favs.
As are Tom Petty's!! They were musical geniuses.
Prince has the most special and unique relationship with his fans. Its too funky and spiritual to even put in to words. The world needs Prince.
I hear there is enough material in The Vault to release unheard music in album form, one album a year until the year 3000!

This is why I'm an undying Prince fan. True Prince essence.
17 Days is my all-time favorite Prince song, so a little admitted bias with this video. One of the best things about going to a Prince concert was that everyone felt welcome and involved. I love how he musically supports, gives credit, and allows the spotlight to shine on all of the real musicians that support him in making this concert more than amazing -- he even gives thanks to the audience, who he uses as an instrument. Amazing talent, amazing lyrics, amazing music, amazing experience. Thank you Prince!
Well said Lori and so true...
Exactly!!! And that's what TRUE Legends Do!!!
The output of work, the versatility, the variety, the ability to always be IN the music. Prince lived for this, it was his life and the world lost big the day it lost him
Putting all his genius aside, his shows are definately a participation gig. Everyone is in the band.
Real music by real musicians. He knew what was going on.
Facts. I’m sick of computer beats and auto tune. Computers have their place, but they can’t replace real instrumental work
That's right! He knew it. Glad he did.💜🎉
The brother is around 53 here.. not 40, not 32. 53. Go ahead and let that sink in. Dude was music personified.

Break off the auto-repeat button! Prince just knew how. “Real music, real musicians”
I don't think Mr Nelson came with a repeat button to break off.every time he does a track live something is done different.

Hands down the greatest artist ever. He was always a fan of his bands.
This footage is a reminder of how aware P was of his musical fraternity and generation that he interpolated a touching musical tribute to Teena Marie into one of his tunes. Respect and RIP to the Lovergirl and to the Purple One.
My biggest regret was never going to see him in concert. RIP Prince.
The greatest that ever lived. The world has gone to shit since he left. He spread so much love and positivity in his lifetime and will be missed for decades to come.
Wow so true 👍
for real...I agree with you wholeheartedly...the world has been way off since he left us...sigh...but I am glad he's not here to witness the craziness

He did. After Michael Jackson passed, Prince blended in Shake Your Body Down To The Ground into one of his jams. Can't recall which one. There will NEVER be another Prince! A modern day Mozart. And, that's the problem with today's so called "talent." They and what passes for their music, are completely disposable. Prince, Hendrix, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Aretha, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., Little Richard were one-a-kind, once in a lifetime, immortal, irreplaceable artists.
@@floydthompson9332 ….. Prince perfectly blended “Shake your body down to the Ground” with his song “Mountains”. Also, he put a “Don’t stop til you get Enough” verse right in the middle of his song “C O O L” …. and then he pointed up to the heavens (for Michael).
The thing that impresses me about this version is how Prince is forming the song as it goes with directions like “groove” or “just the beat,” “lead lines,”“sing it again.” If it was performed 10 minutes earlier or later it would have been the same song but quite different. The band is so tight they can roll with these changes without missing a beat.
WOW!! This literally gave me chills down my spine...Man Im playing this on New Years Eve 2025...YEA BABY!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
RIHP Teena Marie!❤ Love that Prince paid tribute to Lady Tee!!❤ " The Ivory Lovergirl"!❤❤❤
And that, is how live performance is done.
He wasn’t all about himself. Love how he always gave props to his gifted musicians.
This is actually an extremely rare performance of this song. He SELDOMLY played it in concert and very rarely with the second verse. As a matter of fact, this was the first complete version since at least ‘85. He performed partial renditions on the ‘86 “Parade” tour as well as extremely rare renditions on the short “Love 4 One Another Charities Tour” in ‘97 which served as a test gig for the larger “Jam Of The Year Tour” which launched later that year. I had a soundboard recording of this show and a few others from this era on my page a few years back before the UA-cam police snatched them down. 🙄 🤦🏾♂️ You may remember. But anyway, this is why this tour is #2 for me right after “Lovesexy” because of not only the unparalleled musicianship and attention to detail by the band, but also because of the MASSIVE setlist range. He was so spontaneous during this era, you NEVER knew WHAT he was gonna do next! Sometimes three or four encores! And his band churned out funky renditions of his classics that were strikingly similar to the original recordings but somehow totally FRESH! This performance paired with rare performances of “Gold” “The Beautiful Ones” or “Adore” from this era shows the great attention to detail this incarnation of the NPG was capable of. And that’s why I consider them to be perhaps the best band that he ever played with. He IS the absolute greatest. 💜
I feel you...I was like 17 days?...and a 8 minute plus version? I knew it must be special and it was!
He put it in the acoustic set during one of the Musicology shows in ‘04 too.
@@suzeesix He sure did! In Detroit!
@@cstianlew406 It sure was! An eight full version at this stage in his career was SOOO rare! I can remember how my jaw just dropped I was SO surprised!

Same 💜 he's been in my life since I was 12 yrs old in 1978 and I'll be 55 this December. It's because of his life, love, music that I'm here today. Prince got me thru some very difficult times, it is his music that heals the spirit and embraces you with truth. He lives on with each beat of my grateful heart💜
For me, from the 1st time I heard "I wanna be your lover" on Kasey Kasems American Top 40 Countdown but I lived in Europe then, so that was super early compared to the rest of the continent.
This is why i love the w2a concerts. Sure, some shows were better than others, but there was never a bad show, and it was magical how it could go in any direction.
The main drag is we cannot ever witness his greatness live again. So grateful I got to experience his exceptional talent live in my lifetime 💜💜💜💜💜

Love the way he let his band members shine.
I don’t think Prince ever was underrated. He was always known for his guitar skills. A lot of great guitar players gave him his props, and he outperformed anyone that he played with. The man could play just able any instrument, and he taught himself how to play them all. Not to mention his creativity and writing ability. Every concert he just about sold out, while re-inventing himself in the process.

If you want to see what made Prince special just watch him 5:40-6:28 in this video. His rhythm guitar playing was unreal. This chord progression is Gm to F to Gm/Eb to F and back to Gm. This progression is not easy to do and he's not only playing it, but he's adding funk to it WHILE HE'S TALKING. He makes it look effortless, but there's very few people on the planet that can play like that and talk or sing at the same time. We often hear "there'll never be another" and Prince is in that category. What a joy he was to watch and listen to!
Muscle memory - guitar is a lot easier than it looks.
@Dr. Darkroom Cool bro, post a video of you performing it.
I'll wait .
@@dr.darkroom I tried to learn how to play guitar and I found it hard. I even took lessons and I ran out of patience.
His guitar playing was too cold at that part. Definition of a pimp and badass.
Prince is the best electric guitar player of them all, I love them all (I play electric guitar since i was 12) Page, Beck, Santana, Clapton, Hazel, Eddie VH, DeMartini, Jimi, SRV, Iommi, Rhoads, but Prince is the pinnacle nobody play like him: so much soul, an outstanding tone (just unreal!), perfect picking (always clean notes), the phrasing is out of this world, the use of effects is always into the music he play, best electric guitar player ever, no discussion allowed.
