This one is my favorite as well. I little longer than it needed to be. BUT, I have figured out their mentality…and it goes along with the evolution of their songwriting. James is a RIFF MACHINE, and he’s going through the iterations of major stepping stones in the song. So we get 1,2,3,4+ versions of a riff. They have done that in each song except for Lux. In the end, I choose to trust the process, and know in my heart that if I'm happy with the song, that's a blessing, and if others are happy with it, too, it's a miracle. Ever since touring for years straight when the Black Album came out, James has worked with vocal coaches to preserve and enhance his voice and I believe that it's worked. While it's not my favorite decade of their musically, I think James' voice was at it's strongest in the 90's and is still strong today.
Idgaf who says what, James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob, are killing it man. To be this far in their career and still dropping straight 🔥like this, brings a smile to my inner kid!
100% if you tell Kirk that you love Metallica and you do reactions, he'd actually would just stop up and have a conversation with you about what you're doing and probably say "Woooow dude, that's awesome" Kirk is just a chill, down to earth stand up guy
This song rips! Love it and I am an “Elitist” 😂 Sure the “formula” is there (reminds me a little of the title track to Hardwired..) but what else do they have to prove? Their experimental era started with Load and ended with St. Anger (Bob Rock era?). Seems like when Trujillo came aboard they returned to their heavier sound. Man, they’re killing it and they’re in their 60s. Fucking phenomenal!
Recycled riffs, Alex you mailed it right on the head. I felt the exact same way during that indo. Sounds like a riff tape from the last 2 albums. But then again you could say the same of Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
I get u with the i "it's kinda that i already heard this before" i also have this feeling with their new songs...but they are still soo good as u said haha...and btw...i was thinking of moth into flame before the song started hahaha.
Excellent album from what I've heard so far. The only album I didn't care for was St. Anger. But I have to say this hits like the older ones. Very pleased.
I must say, that mustasch looks badass on you! Not everybody can pull it off. From what I've heard on these first new Metallica songs is that Lars is trying to prove that he's a really good drummer.
idk if theres a way to formally request a song but i reckon you should check out "Malevolence" literally any song but i reccomend their latest "waste of myself"
You are right about the fact that the main riff sounds a lot like "Hardwired... to Self destruct" in my opinion this is good because I really like that song
Overkill and Death Angel are good examples of creating basically the same or similar sound for much of their career. They, like Metallica, still sound incredible 🤘🤘
One thing that has continuously surprised me about these new songs is how good James' voice sounds. I feel like he's also playing a little bit more with different sounds. This song is more his 'traditional vibe', but son of darkness is much different.
This might be the most Metallica-sounding Metallica song ever and it's definitely my favorite song released from the new album so far. It might be a little "formulaic", but it's the best formula from any artist ever, at least in my opinion. I think they went through their experimental phase with St. Anger (which I love) and Lulu (not that anyone really considers that a Metallica record) and got their heads back on straight with the help of Rick Ruben on Death Magnetic...and its been all gravy since. I think James' voice sounds as good, if not better than Justice/Black albums, and WAY better than Kill 'Em All. I'm a singer and guitar player (wonder where that influence came from) and I can only hope that my chops are as strong as Papa Het's when I'm 60, totally defying age and overuse. Can't wait to her the entire new album!
It's like Christmas when Metallica drops a new bad ass song, full of Amazing Riffs, Vocals, Drums, Solos & Bass!! Definitely got killem all vibes and new mixed up! Those Riffs are freakin Just plain Amazing & the harmonizing was killer! I seen your face Alex it was priceless! Papa Het sounds like he's gone back in time, seriously his vocals are AMAZING!! I've loved them since RTL, seen them 10x and ill see them 2x in August in California! I will always love them! What an Ass kicking song!! 🥰🤘🎼🎸🖤 Long live Metallica!! I hope they never stop putting out music.🎼
I consider myself to be a real Metallica super fan and I LOVE this song. I have been a fan ever since my teenage years in the 80's. So far I have enjoyed each release but this song is FIRE! Lux Aeterna, screaming suicide and now this all sound eerily similar to Kill 'em All. I hope this rest of the album sounds this good.
This is the first Metallica song since St. Anger that needed time to grow on me (not much time though). I still have some complaints, but I do enjoy this song. Also, my favorite single is easily Screaming Suicide.
@@DarkReturns1 almost all their songs are like that. We try to digest it right away instead of just letting it in lol. It took me 3 listen to relise this is a banger
Thanks for posting this Alex! I have been looking for videos from the other new Metallica. But I havent seen them. Hope you have checked those songs out also.
Ya, I have to sat 72 seasons is my favorite so far 🤘🏼🖤 But when you say that it has the same formula. Which it does to a point. But there's other bands that are the same way. AC/DC, SLAYER, NIRVANA, Ramones, Breaking Benjamin, to name a few. & yet they ALL sound kicks ass. Even with that same formula 🤘🏼 To just as long they keep giving us great music. Idc if they use the same formula. 🤘🏼 Take care & be Safe 😎🤘🏼
Every song is wonderful if you listen to them more than once. I often wonder if reactors give up on a song after just one listen or do they listen again while driving.
Totally understand what you commented to the intro. Song is totally great and I love the energy, but the album all together sometimes sounds like "well, we did not have these 3 chords in this order yet"
Yeah when I heard the main riff kick in I thought to myself “this really has a Moth Into Flame mixed with Spit Out The Bone vibe to it” As someone who loved the Hardwired album I’m not really complaining I wouldn’t say James still sounds the same, his voice has very much changed throughout the years but I like it. A lot of people say “ah it’s shot, he can’t sing like he used to” but imo it’s better. While I am a fan of growly vocals something about James’ melodic yet gravely tone is just 👌🏻👌🏻 IMO bands can and should experiment whenever they feel like it. Whether or not the audience is receptive to it is a different story but experimentation is always healthy and helps keep things fresh and exciting My favorite single has to be Lux Æterna. It’s hype and a bit chaotic and I really dig it
The fact that this song is 7+ minutes long and doesn’t get boring is what makes them great. I have heard 3 minute songs that I can’t wait for to end. This one is a banger. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Amazing song. I think the circle is a reference for a Full Circle on Metallica as I could notice Riffs from each major of their songs. As it was a homage to their career.
Metallica is Metallica and everyone knows their sound. They dont change even if they did change it will always sound like Metallica. Too iconic to change. Awesome band, have listened to them since i was able to remember.
With some bands it's better for them to experiment and make progress but with some bands their "formulaic" sound is the REASON you like that band and if they change their sound they change what you liked about them. It depends.
I think Metallica has tried evolving/experimenting more than any other metal band. Load and Reload were quite different and a shock to many people. St. Anger... well that is that but since then they've tried to get back to their older style but they can't quite recapture it.
Personally I don't think they are trying to please anyone or capture and old style. They're not 23 anymore. They are playing exactly what they want to play and they always have.
Its like Spit out the Bone pt 2. But still good. I guess I'll just add.. Their first 4 albums had a casual evolution to them. The Black album was one of a kind in that nothing before or after sounded like that. Load/Reload were unique in that way also. St. Anger was pretty different for them, but was the bridge to the sound that became Death Magnetic, Hardwired and this album which all seem very similar. Perhaps at some point they will change it up again if they continue. The only problem is they now only put out one album in the same time they had put out their first 3-4, so we'll see.
word on the street in that 72 seasons is a homage to all their previous albums, if you listen carefully to all the songs each song has a similar riff, similar lyrics, even calling out some previous songs by name and picking certain key lyrics from previous songs and incorporating them into this new album. 72 season is meant to be the first 18 years of your life and how it defines you for the rest of your life. You should listen to some other songs on the album like Room of Mirrors, Screaming Suicide, Shadow Follow, Lux Eterna instant classics.
This is my favourite too, curious about 11 minute song Inamorata, I heard it is the best song on the album by some magazine. This song will be great to hear live it will kick ass 😂
IMHO Alex, yes, it's great to have the freedom to go off and experiment (Rush being a prime example), but for the most part, once a band finds that "winning formula"... if it ain't broke... don't fix it (LOL). Although you may be right about sounding a bit like "Moth Into Flame", there are differences, and if I may... they are sounding much more polished as time goes on. I believe a lot of bands got the well-deserved break they needed once COVID hit, Metallica included. Great review, Brother... LOVE IT !!!
I agree with you the music is good and props to metallica for still putting out content, but the riff sounds like something I've heard before.but overall I like the energy they are bringing
They make you want to be a vigilante against the living dead! This album is four stars so far in my mind, I have listened to it four times & it continually gets better.
I thought it sounded for a second like "Seek and Destroy". But it also sounds like a couple others. But it is new Metallica. Whatever it sounds like it's off the first couple albums and that's good. My favorite is "Lux Æterna" but it has been out a couple months. This could become my favorite.
I don't think they need to change anything because they have the oldschool vibe that we still love in this day and age. not many bands have kept that because of the change in music recently.
Alex, you’re on fire today! Great question and one that can’t be answered in a mere 2-3 sentences. Lol. But a live show debate could be fun. Imo a band’s signature sound comes from a mix of a few things. One main one is vocals. You know who is singing the moment they begin and successful bands always have a unique singer, like James, Sebastian, Steven, Jonathan, or Chester. Yes I know there are many more. Their voice and abilities generate what style can be done. Then there’s the proficiency of the musicians and the style or genre they all gravitate towards. If they become successful at what they do, some bands don’t want to fix what ain’t broke. So they stick with the formula that works for them. Think AC/DC, iron maiden and nickelback. Others are more creative and seek to try new things and do, but only so far. They have to stay in their genre in order to please the fans. Yes, some fans welcome change, but many do not. Case in point: whenever a big name band gets a different singer, some fans go mental. So the bands could also be reacting to those incidents as well. I think my post is long enough for a quick opinion. Like I said this is a huge question and I’ve only touched on a few points. lol.
@@Traviolie I agree for the most part. Van Halen kept the brothers so I feel that was fair play. But in many cases I do think that they should change the name. Look at STP. Scott to Chester to Jeff? Very different sounds.
Its an amazing thing for those fortunate to have their music be able to be replayed for years upons years ....think about before audio recording was a thing....how many songs and how much talent will never have been heard in its original form by its creators

While it's not my favorite decade of their musically, I think James' voice was at it's strongest in the 90's and is still strong today.
Their music definitely makes you feel good!🔥🔥🔥 My favorite ✨
To be its a mash up of Hardwired, Moth into Flame, Spit out the Bone and the intro to Pulp Fiction
Loved the video dude and yes I am thankful that we still get some serious stuff from Metallica at this age!
I CANNOT get enough of this entire album. I'm dying to see them live again. I need my 20th show...
Been waiting for this... From Atty Alex himself! Good reaction as always! Keep rocking!!!
This is my favorite song from the album so far as well
I get u with the i "it's kinda that i already heard this before" i also have this feeling with their new songs...but they are still soo good as u said haha...and btw...i was thinking of moth into flame before the song started hahaha.
❤❤😂
This came on while I was on a run the other day, just perfect. That pace and rhythm. And yeah instantly was like, yep this is Metallica.
idk if theres a way to formally request a song but i reckon you should check out "Malevolence" literally any song but i reccomend their latest "waste of myself"
Overkill's consistency is amazing. Superb band
Overkill play harder and faster than Metallica
@@James-hh1lq Never heard off em looking thx
Agree. Death Angel is amazing, underrated band.
It does give me Death Magnetic vibes
From one Hefner to another Heffner, by far the best song in decades. Good video.
Long live Metallica!! I hope they never stop putting out music.🎼
Hardwired and this are a return to the roots. amazing
Great! After all these Years they still know how to kick ass. I will probably buy the new CD just because to appreciate the Band.
I love this song but it did take me a few days to warm up to it. Weird how that works. Went from "meh" to "fuck yeah" lol
@@DarkReturns1 a lot of load and reload songs had that same effect for me
@@DarkReturns1 almost all their songs are like that. We try to digest it right away instead of just letting it in lol. It took me 3 listen to relise this is a banger
@@DarkReturns1 same here, it took a couple months for it to sink in that this album as a whole is just sick as fuck
Thanks for posting this Alex! I have been looking for videos from the other new Metallica. But I havent seen them. Hope you have checked those songs out also.
3:30 It has a general Hardwired vibe to it. Nothing wrong with it, they retooled some of what they do and did touch things up to try it different.
This is the most Metallica that Metallica has sounded like in 20 plus years. This IS the song I've been waiting for from them since I was a teenager.
You should listen to Spit out the bone then, easily their best and most badass song since the Black album!
Yeah when I heard the main riff kick in I thought to myself “this really has a Moth Into Flame mixed with Spit Out The Bone vibe to it”
As someone who loved the Hardwired album I’m not really complaining
I wouldn’t say James still sounds the same, his voice has very much changed throughout the years but I like it. A lot of people say “ah it’s shot, he can’t sing like he used to” but imo it’s better. While I am a fan of growly vocals something about James’ melodic yet gravely tone is just 👌🏻👌🏻
IMO bands can and should experiment whenever they feel like it. Whether or not the audience is receptive to it is a different story but experimentation is always healthy and helps keep things fresh and exciting
My favorite single has to be Lux Æterna. It’s hype and a bit chaotic and I really dig it
i like all the new songs they have released
This is also my favorite single so far. It's been on my playlist since it came out...
love your reactions man especially Metallica related 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 the stache brings out your lebanese side and you’re killing it
The fact that this song is 7+ minutes long and doesn’t get boring is what makes them great. I have heard 3 minute songs that I can’t wait for to end. This one is a banger. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
His voice is great and this is the best song they’ve written in years.
Amazing song. I think the circle is a reference for a Full Circle on Metallica as I could notice Riffs from each major of their songs. As it was a homage to their career.
Love this one!! Cheers from Poland \m/
Metallica is Metallica and everyone knows their sound. They dont change even if they did change it will always sound like Metallica. Too iconic to change. Awesome band, have listened to them since i was able to remember.
In a month Lars would have forgotten how to play all the new songs.😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is my favorite so far as well!
Try Bathory
Repetitive shit. That’s why I appreciate bands that don’t do the same album over and over and over
The riffs are totally badass though. I appreciate bands that experiment (Metallica has definitely experimented) but in the end, they're a thrash band.
BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION! 🤘🏻
word on the street in that 72 seasons is a homage to all their previous albums, if you listen carefully to all the songs each song has a similar riff, similar lyrics, even calling out some previous songs by name and picking certain key lyrics from previous songs and incorporating them into this new album. 72 season is meant to be the first 18 years of your life and how it defines you for the rest of your life. You should listen to some other songs on the album like Room of Mirrors, Screaming Suicide, Shadow Follow, Lux Eterna instant classics.
One of the best frontmen ever. His voice is getting better with age. Papa het . 🤘🤘
This is my favourite too, curious about 11 minute song Inamorata, I heard it is the best song on the album by some magazine. This song will be great to hear live it will kick ass 😂
Where did you learn that Inamorata is 11 minutes long? I'm really curious about that one.
@@derekfebo7370 Classic rock magazine
72 Seasons is also my favorite single from the new album so far and the best since Lux Aeterna.
LOVE IT !!!
The tache looks really good bro 👍🏼
My favorite single thus far Alex is If Darkness had a Son...Im a big fan of how it reminds me of Eye of the Beholder.
Some of the chords reminded me from Halo on Fire... The opening fast riff made me think of Hardwired
I don't think they need to change anything because they have the oldschool vibe that we still love in this day and age. not many bands have kept that because of the change in music recently.
I can't remember exactly what it was I was going through when I was 11-15 but I know they got me through some shit. R.i.p
Are you gonna continue reacting to the rest of the album
Like I said this is a huge question and I’ve only touched on a few points. lol.
I've always felt that when a band changes singers, it should change it's name. It's no longer the same band.
@@Traviolie I agree for the most part. Van Halen kept the brothers so I feel that was fair play. But in many cases I do think that they should change the name. Look at STP. Scott to Chester to Jeff? Very different sounds.
I think when you keep the concept of the album in mind it improved the quality of each song.
Your hear the hard times James goes through. Great music created in hard times.
That's the benefit of having a million dollars worth of engineering equipment at your disposal .
Its an amazing thing for those fortunate to have their music be able to be replayed for years upons years ....think about before audio recording was a thing....how many songs and how much talent will never have been heard in its original form by its creators
That's now my favorite single so far. This was the first time I got to listen to it. Freaking awesome.
Yes it has a Moth feel to it. I 1st heard Metallica with For Whom the Bell Tolls at age 8, a friends older brother had the album, it had just came out, that was 39 years ago and I was hooked instantly. You're right, there will be a day where there won't be any new music from them and it will suck immensely.
