I like your attention to detail and the effort you put into making nice crosses. I hadn't seen that type before but really like the longer pointed bottom. I learned real young from my grandfather to listen to older people as I grew up because they have already traveled the road your starting. Thanks a lot for the videos. I have found both the cross and heart one very informing and soled a big problem I had with the solder not sticking to mine. I spent a couple of hours my way and should have just spent the 20 minutes with you. Thanks again Randy
I'm from louisiana about 30 minuets from New Orleans. I know of a couple of stores that may have some nails that I will try to find out if they have what I am looking for. Thanks so much for the advice. You have been so helpful.
I understand everything except what type of rings for the chain. Great educational video thank you. Just trying figure out where to buy or make the rings.
The pliers is an old pair of needle nose. I cut the ends off and cut a grove in one side, so they wouldn't slip off the mandrill. I also use a pair of needle nose vice grips.
how do you dip them in the polycrylic without it yellowing and looking bad? I have finally figured out how to make and solder the crosses but the polycrylic is making them look horrible.
I been fooling around with set up and found if I put two magnets on the flat of my vice it holds my helping hands steady while attaching the jump ring.
Hi Willie. I have a pair of pliers I removed the teeth so I won't mark up the nails but now I am not getting enough grip to keep the nail in place while bending it. Would you happen to have any tips on how to correct this. Thanks in advance.
I have found here Dimond has nails made in China and Japan. I didn't see where you lived. Here in Southwest Virginia we have 3 farm stores. Tractor Supply is one of them. You may find Chinese nails there, if you have one close to you?
Kaligh the first thing I think of is where is the nails made? Chinese nails are much softer than any I have worked with. If you would check and get back to me. I'll help you as much as I can.
I enjoy your video series. By the way, that dapple set is now called a doming set. Harbor Freight sells it for $49.95. Where yours says "Dapping Block" the doming set says "Dombing Block"Could you specify the dimensions you use for your various pieces? I got the arm dimension from the video but not the one for the heart made from the heart nail.
+Jim Martin I'm glad you liked the videos. Hope you could get a little from them. They keep changing things on me, glad you left a comment. The mandrel I used was a 7/16 on this heart, but it depends on the size of the nail.
+Willie Hess I was wanting an idea the measurement for cutting the nail pieces for heart. I am asking about the small hearts using the 1/4" mandrel. I can't tell from video what that dimension is.

The pliers is an old pair of needle nose. I cut the ends off and cut a grove in one side, so they wouldn't slip off the mandrill. I also use a pair of needle nose vice grips.

Deann I use a Dremel Tool with a cut off wheel.
Qu'utilisez vous comme flux ? Avant de mettre l'étain ?? Cdt.merci.
What type of solder do you use.
Nice work. Do you think silver solder would work better?
how do you dip them in the polycrylic without it yellowing and looking bad? I have finally figured out how to make and solder the crosses but the polycrylic is making them look horrible.
Thanks for your words of wisdom, I do have a problem I put the heat to the nail and it will booble up and will not stick, what am doing wrong?
Sounds like you are using to much heat.
Did you put flux 1st?
Very nice, is there a certain type of solder to use?
Robert Shipp I use a 60/40. Its soft enough to melt easy and hard enough to hold.
Great video! Did you use the wire to make your own jump rings? Is the wire 18 gauge regular wire?
Rusty are you giving the nails a good cleaning before you dip them? I have some I made 2 years ago, they are doing good. I do dip them 2 or 3 times.
What do you use to cut the grooves for the lap joint?
Ok thanks. You do very nice work.
Very well done! What is the low heat torch you use? Thanks
Bill the torch is a gas ( butane ) soldering iron.
I been fooling around with set up and found if I put two magnets on the flat of my vice it holds my helping hands steady while attaching the jump ring.
What are you using at the 6:00 to hold the closed jump ring in place?
Alysha an Thomas Owsley for better heat distribution.
+Willie Hess where did you get the clamp you used to hold the ring in place while you soldered it.
Harbor Fright

Did you cut grooves for the Horseshoe Nails on your channel locks so that they don't slip cuz I'm having a hell of a time
Linda Shields yes I did Linda. If you look at the tools in the video you can see them.
I'm having the slipping problem with mine, then my solder won't hold I even tried acid core.
Good tip. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Scott. I have learned much from other people, thought I would give something back.
my solder just balls up and rolls off, it doesn't flow like that. What am I doing wrong. I am using flux and in some cases acid core solder wire.
John it hard to diagnose without seeing. Best guess, you’re material needs to be cleaner. For soldering, material needs to be shiny.
I have some too tools nails that are made from China. I also have some diamond nails on order like the ones you use in your videos.
Do you wrap your hearts with wire? Or paint them?
I dip them in polycrylic.
What type of solder do you use for this
Thanks Cynthia. I used pre made jump rings and I used 22 gauge wire.
I'm glad I can give a little back. Thank you for letting me know.
How did you cut the notches?
I have found here Dimond has nails made in China and Japan. I didn't see where you lived. Here in Southwest Virginia we have 3 farm stores. Tractor Supply is one of them. You may find Chinese nails there, if you have one close to you?
I have found the Chinese nails are easy to work with. Or maybe needle nose vice grips.
Kaligh the first thing I think of is where is the nails made? Chinese nails are much softer than any I have worked with. If you would check and get back to me. I'll help you as much as I can.
What type of pliers is it use are using? I noticed a round notch in them
I used some old plairs. I used a grinder, smoothed the teeth down and made the cut out in the plairs.
ahhh.. thanks!
Tamara 'n Tana's Family Broadcast Fun! Your welcome.
Fyi, at harbor freight the dapping set shown in the video is now called a Doming block and punch set

+Jim Martin after I bend the nail. I cut it at 1/2 inch. Play with the length to see what looks good to you.
Any time I can help. I'll try.
I looking for a dapple set but nothing comes up in that name
John I looked in the comments. The set is now called, doming.
Bought my horseshoe nails from a ferrier store $7.50 for 250 nails.
