2 things I'm proud of myself for doing: learning to allow my children to make their own choices and not immediately jump to "but what will people think about that", and returning to the workforce after being a stay-at-home parent for 10 years. It was scary and I had a lot of doubts, but has been rewarding to figure out.
Another great video. I’ve read the first book, City of Brass, in your suggested trilogy and enjoyed it a lot. I’ve got the second one, but haven’t started it yet. I’m reading Godkiller by Hannah Kaner. It took the first chapter for me to get into, but I’m loving it. It, too, is a trilogy. The second book is out in early March and I’ve already preordered it. This is a set I’ll want to keep on my shelves. I’m pretty proud of myself for getting into lap swimming twice a week. A friend and I go to our “ local” (15 miles away) wellness center every Tuesday and Wednesday. I try to swim at least 18 laps each time and have managed to swim a mile several times. Also, I’m doing chair Yoga twice a week. I’m not a person who loves to exercise, but I do it in order to keep as healthy as possible-at 77 it’s a concern! And, pretty much the toughest thing I do during the week is getting into that cool, cool lap pool! 😂 Have a great couple of weeks. Give your daughters a hug from me. 😊
I love your slipover . I’ve been hemming and hawing about making that pattern or another that has a bit more razzle dazzle but that’s it . I’m good at coming with effective compromises. In groups, between individuals, in projects . Distilling the must have from the nice to haves, from the doesn’t matter as much .
Thank you! I suppose if you felt inclined, you could end up knitting both a more basic slipover AND a fancier one so that you have both for any mood and so much fun styling!! What a very practical skill to have - thank you for sharing❤️
In terms of the “precious things” that you knit for your family, you are right. If they do not use them rigorously, they won’t be able to catch all of the love that you knit into them 💗💗
Stephanie, you have a wonderful talent of blending colors in your granny shawls. They are so pleasing to the eye. I'm proud of my ability to handle emergency situations with a clear, decisive head. We were a military family and with my hubby gone a lot and 3 children this was essential. That doesn't mean I didn't have a melt down after stuff was handled. LOL
Love all the projects! Especially the gifts for your girls, so sweet! I had to take my glasses off for a second at the beginning & I saw what appeared to be an interesting piece of art, I rewound to see it better once I had my glasses back on - imagine my surprise when I saw it was actually your pizza!! I got a good laugh out of that 😄😄 (thank goodness for glasses!!)
Thank you so much!! So funny - I may have forgotten to add text to those photos oops - it was focaccia! I pretty much see nothing without glasses so yes, yay for glasses!!
I am proud of myself for listening to my body, and skipping out on potential networking opportunities at VKL, to take care of myself and decompress and give my body and soul the alone time it needed to recharge and not be drained by the end of the weekend.
I am proud of myself for my creative problem solving skills and my ability to notice subtle changes in expression or tone with which I can determine someone's mood when most people are not aware of it. That is useful with my kids who are not very good at expressing or regulating emotions.
I've never tried BT's Dapple but looked it up and very similar fiber blend. Doesn't Knitting for Olive have a cotton merino too (though maybe it's fingering weight and not DK)??? Haven’t tried that one either. Great to have options!! Let me know when you're available to meet-up and I'll bring Plein Air for you to squish! For science!
Eveeytime I watched a new podcast and you showed a crochet granny shawl I would always think I need to make one. Finally started one and im so happy with it. Loved the socks also, bought the yarn in a different color for a hat.
Ok :) I found a lighter "proud" to share. I'm proud that I started practicing herbalism at a young age. Its termed as Ethnobotany. We took a casual walk in the woods yesterday and I gathered enough lungwort for our teas to last during fire season here. I'm really struggling with my memory so its incredibly life affirming that I have kept this important knowledge in my brain somehow.
OMG - I want a sweater in the stripes you chose for the musselburgh hat. I mean, I want a dozen stripey sweaters, but those colours are lovely for a stripey sweater!
Thank you so much for the tip about doing the provisional cast on and crown decreases…I have been debating making this hat and didn’t want to fuss with the crown beginning. This is a game changer!❤
Thank you! It starts in the center on the top. The free pattern I used is mentioned on the screen when I talk about it and it’s in the description box below the video on my Ravelry project page. It’s the Half Granny Square Shawl by Anastacia Zittel.
What I’m proud of: Taking the craft knowledge that has been blessed upon me by my mother and growing it to the point where now she’s learning from me! Absolutely love all of your makes - as always!
This food for thought hit me. I depend so heavily in external validation, mostly at work. I’m proud of me for trying to manage my stress and my expectations going into this next legislative session.
Thanks for the great podcast. I really appreciate how you show your knits so we'll. You hold the up to see all the detail and yarn. It's important. I enjoyed all the variety of what you are knitting. Thanks again!
Stephanie, can I ask why you started your provisional cast on right before the decreases rather than at the halfway point? I am about to start a another Musselburgh and was thinking of using a provisional cast on.
Because there's no reason for this particular hat to have to start in the middle! If someone were to split their hat in half with one color on each side, it would make sense to start in the middle in order to not break the yarn and go back to knitting towards the center after finishing the crown. I am knitting stripes so breaking the yarn anyway so it doesn't really matter if the provisional cast-on is right before the crown or somewhere else along the hat. Hope that helps!
@@EdibleThoughtsMakes thank you for the explanation. I guess I was concerned that maybe the provisional cast on would be an obvious line if I started in the middle.
@kymdelmar9304 you’re welcome! Because the provisional cast on results in live stitches (so no cast on edge to pick-up from), there shouldn’t be any difference from the rest of the fabric!
This was a Purl Soho shout out episode 😄 Which is fine by me as I love their yarns! As usual you make me want to try a number of new patterns. I think I will rummage through my leftovers and see if I have enough (or nearly) to crochet a shawl! Though I still have to block the squares and seam together my 2023 temperature blanket.... and that surely should be a priority!
Thank you so much Julie! I didn’t follow one! I just used my favorite no knead bread recipe (I use the one from Bread Toast Crumbs and baked in a Dutch oven instead of Pyrex bowls this time) and added ground jalapeño powder and a lot of grated cheddar to the flour before adding the water!
i’ve been enjoying your videos, and trying to catch up after vlogmas. one thing that i always notice on youtube is how people’s stripe color changes look - yours look so good! do you sl the 1e st purlwise on the second row, or put the st below onto the lefthand needle and k it tog with the 1e st on the second row, or do you do magic? no matter how i try, i cannot get my color changes to look as good as yours!
Thank you so much! I actually found that when I try those techniques, I end up with a messier jog - not sure if it's because I end up overcompensating and pulling too tight/loose?? What I found works for me is pulling a little on the ends in both directions to tighten up that join slightly so that the first stitch of the second color and the last stitch of the previous color "shrink" a little to lessen the jog. Then, when I weave in the ends via duplicate stitch for a couple of stitches before just threading through the back loops, the tension holds.
Hello Stephanie.
I'm proud of me, that I stopped smoking before 10 years. After the fourth try I did it.
❤️❤️❤️
im proud of you too! quitting smoking is atrocious, so congrats on quitting :)

Ooo, I'm excited to hear how you like Plein Air! I love BT's Dapple, but it can be difficult to get an SQ that's dyed consistently.
