- Basil Borutski was well known in upper Ontario for his history, his very dark history with women. Yet, the police failed time and time again to act. Either acquittals or little jail time, would lead to Basil thinking the system and everyone was out to get him. He was innocent, not the victims, and he would make sure they saw justice.

Something to note: Basil mostly represented himself at the trial, yet remained completely silent, even after the judge asked him for cross examination, evidence presentation, etc. Then, when the judge was giving the jury their instructions, he finally spoke up and accused the judge of not letting him present any evidence. He actually tried to gaslight the judge. He's the epitome of narcissism.

Mike, this story really affected me because I've gone through this fear and repercussions of pissing the guy off more by pressing charges. Looking over my shoulder and praying he doesn't hurt any of my loved ones. Having him sneak onto private property and flooding my whole apartment. I feel for these amazing and brave women and anyone going through a psycho stalking them. Thank you Mike for really caring about the victims in your stories. 💜💜💜

This guy is exactly like a psycho I knew. We'd been friends years ago, and he wanted to come out to visit me in new State for a week. It became a month and a half of torture. He decided he was "helping me", but was really just holding me hostage. Every ex was terrified if him. His ex-wife changed her name as well as their children's names to get away from him. The woman before he came out had to file stalking charges. And in Alaska he'd served several years for the attempted murder of his roommate. Even after he beat and held me hostage and FINALLY his parents had to get this 46-year-old back to CO, he would send messages alternating between calling me a liar and cheater and other names, to asking why everyone is so mean to him. In his mind, he was the victim and everyone lied about him.

@@sven5632 I was just about to say that. Police can't watch women 24/7 so a lot of the responsibility falls on their shoulders to practice good judgment and stay away from "bad boy" types. Every woman I've ever known to be in a bad relationship stayed in when she should've left or come back multiple times when she should've stayed away
Exactly! I know people who have been sexually assaulted, one by a group of 9 guys who did it every weekend using the poor girls stepfather visitation. The stepfather was charged, but due to his kidney failure, and medical status, they basically waited until they were forced to not pursue the case. She was crushed, and the damage is done ... and she received no justice at all. Some of these guys still taunt her at her place of employment, and she comes home destroyed, with no legal recourse available.

The fact he was locked away, got out, and reoffended multiple times whilst violating the terms of his parole is disgusting. The families of his victims should hold the court system accountable. So many red flags that should’ve been acted upon and innocent lives that could’ve been saved!
Unfortunately, in every country, the judicial system can get it very very wrong. In cases like this, there’s only one punishment………..the death penalty!!!

I don't see the need for patience here, it's just disconnecting from your emotions for the greater good of getting a confession and getting someone that is obviously very dangerous off the streets. For a veteran cop, it shouldn't be harder than breathing because they know that getting mad isn't going to help anything and in fact could hurt their case. Truly good officers have really good control of their emotions at least while they are in that interrogation room, if he couldn't then he shouldn't be interrogating because anger wouldn't lead to anything good in these sorts of situations. It is their job after all.
Basil is SO HARD to listen to, I watched the full interrogation and analysis videos and very few people manage to irritate me to the same extent he does. He's on a level of his own.

On another note, Basil will actually die in prison. For the first time in decades in Canada, due to the severity of the crime, he was convicted of 2 consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for 25 years for first degree murder and of an additional 20-year conviction for 2nd degree murder. This means that he won’t be eligible for parole for at least 70 years. An exceptional conviction in Canada.

I've watched his interrogation. He has to be one of the most surly and unlikable human beings I've ever heard in any of these interrogation videos. It's incredible he was able to get a single girlfriend let alone multiple girlfriends. The interrogator has the patience of a divine being. @@judithbradford9130 Imo, from personal experience, one of the most harmful things abusers do when they are found out, is say that the person they have been abusing is crazy and lieing. We've seen this type of behavior from Brian Laundrie when he and Gabby were talking with police. He didn't come right out with those words but his behavior and descriptions of circumstances gave that impression.

Narcissistic Behavior 101... nothing is their fault, everybody is against them or jealous of their intelligence. Every psychopath is also a narcissist but not every narcissist is a psychopath. Look at Donald Trump, he's not a psychopath but the narcissist of the decade. They are all capable of unbelievable cruelty. Look at Chris Watts, who would ever believe what lurked behind the mask. He seemed like a harmless pussy but when he unleashed his rage, 3 babies and a kind loving woman were... well, you know the story. Prisons are full of narcissists, psychopaths, and mentally ill individuals. One even made it to the White House. He instigated and gleefully enjoyed an attempt to overthrow our democracy. But, pussy that he was, did it from the sidelines, cowering in the background, let that sink in.

@@Bubba__Sawyer I would hope so but my experience in life and the appalling statistical data of battered and dead women in the UK leads me to believe it's highly unlikely anything will change. There is always a lot of talk of "change" and "lesson learning" but after all the journalists move on the physical, sexual violence and death of women just continues unabated. I say RIP to all of the victims and ladies be careful out there.

Now, I had to Google the psychological definition of "brownout" and "neurodivergent" since I didn't have any idea what they meant. I'm sure the majority of people in the comments don't have a clue what the psychological definition of these words mean either. I think it's pretty presumptuous of you to assume everyone knows the clinical terminology, and then lecture them on the use of words like "meltdown".
I do have some advice: if you're going to leave a comment like this in order to make yourself appear intelligent, then I suggest you learn how to spell psychoanalyze and work on your grammar. (I almost had a _meltdown_ trying to read and make sense of your comment.)
