    Carole the great thing about your videos is that you don’t try and sell products you just give good information, that’s what I like. I’m so fed up with other sewing vlogs trying to sell serious readers lights at £300, it’s really not appropriate in the current situation that a lot of people find themselves in. Love your adventures and your photos. Your little grandson is very cute. I’m sure if anyone can do justice to a little jacket for him you can, looking forward to seeing your results. Take care Carol 😊

      Thank you so much Carol, I am with you on the 'promotions'! I just enjoy showing my makes and chatting with you all, I am not in it to make money 😂. I didn't realise those lights were £300?!?!? that is crazy, when a normal light bult costs about £3 😆. I do understand though that some people struggle with vision in dark rooms and I certainly do but wouldn't spend that money! I do hope I can recreate the jacket or make something similar as he won't remember exactly what it looked like, it will be a fun challenge for me 👏🏼. You are so kind in your comments, thank you very much, I really do appreciate it. 🧵😊

    Hello, Carole! Thank you so much for the shout-out! I hope you had a wonderful time sewing the little T-Shirts! They turned out so cute! That is strange about them coming out long, I haven’t made that pattern yet, but I’ll watch out for that! And I was so sad for little Charlie! His favorite jacket, how sad! I know how addy would be if that happened to her. Hopefully the new shirt from grandma will cheer him right up! Thanks so much for sharing with us, Carole! Happy Sewing ❤~Tiffany

      Hi Tiffany, I didn't say in the video how you helped me out in the sizing, I am so sorry! They were really long but actually if you look in some of the photos they are on the children. It must just be the style, I am STILL waiting on measurements from Katie 😆. I have decided I am definitely going to recreate the jacket for Charlie and I know you would feel the same as me. Its like a lost favourite toy! Hope you have a super weekend 🧵😊xx

    Oh my gosh Carole- what a story- your poor grandson my heart breaks for him! My son was a big lightning McQueen fan at that age - his hands always had a car or Thomas train in each one ! I know he would have been devastated too! Never mind that he has a phobia of vomitting 😂 And by the way- I LOVE your stories - long or short!! If anyone can re create that jacket- I know you can!
    Yay for 2 videos! That cardigan is beautiful and those Pjs are so great for “spring” as fleeting as it may be! You have been busy this week! And im so excited for you dipping your toes in the pdf waters!! Those t shirts came out awesome too! Looking forward to all of your videos- as always! Take care ❤❤❤

      Oh Mary, my daughter is obsessed about tummy bugs and sickness. The boys went through endless bugs last year and she had been stressing for months about this flight and them being ill. It's almost liked she willed it to happen! Her worst fear and on a 10 hour flight 😭. I am going to try my hardest with that little jacket and hope any differences a 3 year old won't notice 🤞🏼. I not only dipped my toes into a PDF but also the sea this weekend and it was CHILLY! 🥶. When I put my toes in the Atlantic on the Florida side it was certainly a different temperature to OUR Atlantic 🤣. Thanks for watching my friend and hope your holiday was AWESOME XXX

    I really enjoyed your vlog. Your grandson will love his shirt. That was interesting about Burley. I'm planning a trip to Salem soon I hope. I do some genealogy for our families and I want to check out our Pilgrim immigrants, came about 1640s to usa. Two of them were involved in the trials apparently, yikes. Amazing what fear and superstition can do. I got that strange feeling you're talking about when I visited York, UK.

      @socarole66  3 місяці тому +1

      Well that will be interesting to find out about your relatives!! My goodness 🧙🏼🤣. A very odd thing happened to us in Salem which I didn't mention. We had hired a RV around New England and did many miles using the Sat Nav with no issue. Then we got to Salem. After our visit we tried to find our way out and it kept taking us round and round and back to Salem chopping and changing its mind!! It was funny, scary and creepy all at the same time and we have never forgotten it. It was like it didn't want us to leave 🤣. My family constantly tell me I am a witch as I predict so much and maybe.... I am!!
      Have an awesome and safe trip there! I think I have been to York but many years ago, now Glastonbury is another of those odd places! Thanks for chatting with me 🧵😊

We've always driven around it (too busy) so we thought we'd do a bus tour. But next I hope, Boston , Nantucket + Salem). Oh, and if you're interested, check out Increase Mathers. You can Google him. Hello Carole, Regarding the elastic, I don't know if you are aware of Pamela's Patterns by Pamela Legget, but she has Fantastic Elastic in her shop. This is "fantastic elastic" as I have used it for years. I comes in 1.5 inch wide, but you can cut it the width you desire and it will not ravel. It works great in PJ's. Love your videos.

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  3 місяці тому

      Hi there, thank you so much for your comment and hints on elastic. I have just looked that up and I see they are based in the US. I think they do ship to the UK but it is very expensive. Just one yard would cost me £26! Such a shame as what a fantastic idea to have elastic you can cut to the right width. I have tried that before with other elastic and it wasn't very successful! I will keep an eye out for a UK version. Thanks so much again and I really appreciate you taking the time to reply 🧵😊

    Hi again. Yes I actually went through the motions of the Palmer Pletch fitting and only adjusted the waist dart a bit. They actually turned out great. I’m not sure if my 5’2” frame actually suits palazzo pants but I was keen to try. I have tried the Palmer Pletch with a woven pattern and quite liked the results. I do think it might not work so effectively for knit fabric patterns due to the variability of stretch of fabric.

    I so enjoy watching your videos and your comments on the different patterns you have made. When Joanns recently had Butterick patterns for 2.99 I purchased 6924 not even realizing it was a Palmer/Pletsch method. I opened the pattern directions for the fabric layout and Wow! all those fitting instructions Yikes! I may try to follow the fitting instructions?? or I may just do my usual adjustments of bust dart and sleeve head. The green sweater you made fits you so well and you look so comfy in it. I'm sure you will have success with your little grandsons jacket as you are so creative. Your whole family is so blessed to have you sew so many items for them. Can't wait to see the outcome of the fabric wheel next week. I just love your photos at the end of your videos and listening to that hauntingly beautiful music you play. I hope you can find a similar, if not the same, jacket for your grandson! In the meantime, hopefully the t-shirt will help him feel better. That will be a family story - like how my sister's favorite stuffed animal got sucked up by the vacuum cleaner and my father went all over trying to find another one - he did - long before the internet. The green cardigan is so pretty. I used Pop fabric to make a sleep shirt last year for myself - it is such a comfortable fabric and very reasonably priced plus cute designs that are not too childlike - your pj's are an example of that. Love the photos at the end!

    An other great video Carole! I loved all of your makes and the green Cardi looks great on you. I bought a big four pattern that works well for a Breton top. It’s Butterick 6966. I have also made the palazzo pants from this. Very interesting construction; they have no side seams!

    Hi Carole! I think I recognized that green cardigan fabric!! You have had a nice, busy week in your sewing room. Sorry, I can't help you with the questions you asked about the elastic or the car jacket for your grandson. Poor little guy! I have visited Burley a few times myself. Yes, I have! The tearoom was wonderful! And I loved the New Ponies wandering through the village. There used to be a lovely gift shop in the village that sold leather goods and all sorts of nice things. It has been maybe about 20 years since I last visited the village but it is an enjoyable stop in the New Forest! Have a great week-end at your home-away-from-home!!

      Deb!!! Where haven't you been in the UK?! I can't believe you have been to Burley and been in one of the tea shops. It is a quaint and strange place isn't it. Those New Forest ponies are cute but drive us crazy when we just want to get from A to B and all the tourists stop in the road to take pictures 😂. There are a couple of lovely gift shops there as well as the Witch shops. So far so good in the holiday home, we came last night and Chris is working today but I did a lovely coastal walk on my own this morning, just heaven. Hope you are still having the nice weather and not too warm. Have a super weekend 💗😘

      Over the years (gosh! that makes me sound so old!!), I have visited many different areas in Great Britain. I haven't seen everything yet but I've seen a lot. One of the little shops that I always went to in Burley isn't there any longer. It was such a lovely, quaint shop filled with beautiful purses, slippers, handmade sweaters, all sorts of gift things, etc. The ponies roaming around the village streets was always very interesting to me but I seem to remember hearing that we were to leave them alone. No feeding; no petting. Now that was several years ago. Anything could be happening with them nowadays.
      As for our weather...it is in the 90's today and very hot! You were here at the right time to enjoy a lot of time outdoors. I like it on the cool side in the mornings, warming up a little with the sun for the rest of the day. Feels like we're heading in to summer -- and HOT!-- weather now. Enjoy your seaside week-end!

    A lot of those patterns that come with sewing magazines require tracing - if the pieces don't overlap like the one you have, they print on both sides of the page. The other thing is many of them only go up to UK 18/20. I stopped buying them a long time ago as the patterns for me don't work and the pricing isn't justified by the content alone. You will probably find that elastic on either McCullough & Wallis or William Gee. Both stores stock absolutely everything relating to haberdashery.

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  3 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment Jane. I don't know why I was so surprised to be honest as I have got a few Burda magazines and all those patterns need tracing. I suppose it was as before I had some that were just straightforward, I told you I was lazy 😂. Sewing magazines are so expensive now aren't they, you can't really call them 'free' patterns! Thanks so much for the idea of looking on those websites. I'm off to do that now. Have a good weekend 🧵😊

    Pop! makes the BEST holiday prints. I buy a couple of Halloween prints every year for t-shirts. But I do disagree with you in that I think it has great recovery! I notice that now they have 2 weights of fabric. One is a thinner jersey and the other is a slightly thicker cotton. The thicker one has fabulous recovery! Check it out next time you’re stateside! 💕

      Thanks so much for your comment and oh dear, I hope I didn't upset you with my POP comment! I bought some a couple of years ago and made a t shirt and it just sagged and grew every time I wore it! This time round in Florida I bought a couple of pieces, the thinner and the thicker stuff. It is perfect for what I want it for and yes, some of their holiday prints were amazing! Such a variety, everything you could wish for. We all disagree on fabric, I really don't like double gauze whereas lots of people do! I do appreciate your comment and so pleased that you have success with it. Have a good weekend 🧵😊

    I'm just making a shirt for hubby with a Kwik Sew pattern and was amazed at the 6mm/ 1/4" seam allowance (only done the toile at the moment). I've used that allowance on some of the indie knit patterns but never on a mainstream company woven pattern. I'm not sure how I'm going to neaten the edges as there won't be enough room to overlock the raw edges once sewn together. I might just overlock first and then go over the left needle stitch with the sewing machine to strengthen it. Or add some extra to make the seam allowance wider. I only have one other Kwik Sew pattern and they are mens' shorts, which I made for hubby a couple of years ago - I checked and they have a 1.5cm seam allowance as normal. Very strange.

    • @socarole66

      Isn't it strange you have a 6mm Kwik Sew as well? Like you, I have made some kwik sew shorts for my hubby and that was 1.5cm seam allowance. The ones I make for myself also has the larger. 6mm doesn't allow for anything does it and yes, the Indie pattern companies love it! Certainly means we should always check the pattern😆. Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend whatever size the seam allowance!! 😊🧵
