  • In my sewing room today I am showing the fabrics I bought from my recent trip to ‪@Beyondthepinkdoor‬ in Poundbury, Dorset. I went with the lovely ‪@AdamSews‬ which was so much fun. My Hubby also came along but wasn't as excited as us!
Thanks also to ‪@pinkysfarm461‬ as Trish gave me a voucher for my birthday which was spent in minutes.
*I have received no commission for recommending this shop, I don't need to as it is awesome enough to visit without me getting paid for it!
Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed this video, please hit the like button and subscribe.
    Happy Sewing

Carole, you have a wonderful haul of fabrics and even better with the bonus jumpsuit fabric!
We recently went to the Disney 100 exhibition in Kansas City, Missouri in the U.S. I'd read a textbook biography of Walt Disney that my son had loaned me a few years ago. I think that book took me about a year to read. It was so detailed I could only read it in small bits! As I went through the exhibit I was like "Oh, yes. I remember that. I remember that".😂 It was a great exhibit, especially the costumes.X

Thanks for watching Diane. How wonderful that you got to see the Disney Exhib as well, it must be different bits on show though I expect. I recently bought a Disney book showing all the park maps from the very beginning and through the years, even the original plans, it is fascinating. The costumes were the best bit for me though!

Some beautiful fabrics and I think that one you bought without Adam will look stunning as a jumpsuit. Not too over top for you at all. I had to laugh about you last haul as I’ve often bought fabric and totally forgotten what I planned. I now (if I remember🤦‍♀️) write them down in my notebook and when I take a swatch for my fabric stash folder I write that alongside the fabric details. Really works if I remember to do it😂

Do you ever go to the fabric dept at John Lewis in West Quay, they don't have much and it's always expensive but nice for those special garments. Hopefully on your next trip to Blandford you can 'pop' down the road to Dorchester to see Andreas shop!

Carole, thanks so much for taking us along and how fun to experience this trip with a friend! . I know how excited you've been that Andrea chose Dorset. I'll trade you BTPD for JoAnns, 😉. I still haven't checked out Adam's site but he is mentioned so often by so many of the British sewists I like to watch. When I buy fabric, I immediately cut a small corner off, put it in a fabric album and write down what it is and where it came from with washing instr. . It's been so helpful in learning about various fabrics. Since I have to buy 98% online, it gives me a better chance of understanding what I'm probably buying.

Almost everything is half price for an inventory sale. I want to buy five different colours of gingham, light blue, light green, pink, lilac, and yellow to make a western style shirt, combining all the colours. I’m so jealous, Carole! I just love Andrea’s fabrics and have bought many yards from her in the past, but sadly, no more due to expensive shipping rates, even though she does all that she can to keep costs down. I used to watch her lives also, but like you, it became way too expensive. My husband actually has banned me from buying fabric until I used up most of what I already have in my stash! I think I might die before I use it all up. 😢 . I just love your new fabrics, from both shops, the colors are perfect for you, even that brownish color. Colors don’t really come out true on screen, but close enough, I guess. That fabric with the flowers will make a gorgeous blouse. Your friends are so generous to give to gift certificates, what fun! So glad you had a ball shopping. The costumes are magnificent, can you imagine trying to wear those around? Everything except the Minnie dress would be so hard to move in. Thanks for for this little glimpse into BTPD, as we all love Andrea, and I’m thrilled that she painted her door pink, just as I thought. The colour of the doors was one of the rules! I did get a tan as I sewed in the evenings. Unfortunately there is currently the Euros Football competition going on with matches all the time. Sounds very much like the Milton Keynes area where my friend from London moved with his family when his children were very young. He now lives in Scotland. But MK was built as a new type of city in England, very modern. I've never been there but this is what I understand it to be.

@@DebsWay Poundbury is a very unique town unlike Milton Keynes which is what they called a new town, we lived in Redditch and Yate which were similar.
Charles created Poundbury as a one off and originally everyone thought he was crazy! It does work well though with retail, work and living all in the same area designed for a traffic free life. Cars are there though but they don't have any driving restrictions! They are very tight on shop and business signs and colours of things, everything has to blend. There is 35% affordable housing but the rest seems to be old people now 🤣. It is still growing. Xx

That viscose swirl looks familiar... Can't tell if it's gray or blue but I found one similar in a remnant bin less than a meter and(description on the remnant was "mystery fabric")
made the style arc Edith top with white accents and peplum. I don't particularly like working with viscose or even after a couple washings it tends to go wonky. But it's standing up okay to the pattern so far.

Hi there, the viscose swirl fabric is a sort of grey and burgundy colour, I wonder if you have the same fabric. I personally do love working with viscose but it does need a gentle hand as it can be a slippery customer! I have just looked up the Edith top and it looks a great pattern, really interesting. I bet yours looks amazing. Thanks for your comment 🧵😊

Hi Carole. Looks like you had a great time at BTPD. Andrea did name check you and Adam in the Sunday live 😊. I do love the “old lady colour” linen that you bought, gorgeous colour, but then I would as I’m an older lady 😂. Looking forward to some more Lutterloh makes. I won’t get chance to do anything with my Lutterloh until probably September/October as we tend to travel quite a lot in the summer months and are away at our holiday home in Scotland in a few weeks, but I have other sewing plans for that. Between now and Scotland I have a caddy to make for my friends birthday, and a couple of t-shirts for hubby and me. I really think I need to sew a couple of extra days into the week, just for sewing. Anyway thanks for the vlog and look forward to seeing your makes with you new stash. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Ann, oh it was wonderful to see all Andrea's lovely fabrics in reality and even better that Adam was with me (oh and Chris of course!!).
You say you are going to make a Caddy? Is that one of the ByAnnie ones that Adam makes? I admire you for having a go at that, I can do bags but not if they have endless binding!
How wonderful that you are away most of the Summer, don't blame you at all and yes, some extra sewing days in a week would be perfect! Thanks for watching 🧵😊

@@socarole66 hi Carole. Yes the Caddy is the one ByAnnie. I made myself one first as a trial. There are lots of components to it and it takes me a few days to produce one. I’m sure Adam can probably do this in a few hours and is very well practiced. I do find the binding the trickiest part but fortunately I have a good machine so it copes well with it (Juki DX7). We have a motorhome and also a little place in Scotland so do tend to try and make use of them both in the better weather, although we use the flat all year round.😃

Looks like you had an absolutely great time at BTPD! I love, love, love that fabric you "sneaked" back to buy later but everything else you got is also very, very nice. I have started taking photos on my phone of the end of the bolt to help in remembering what a fabric is made of because I think I'll remember and I don't...🙄. The costumes are great - I went with my daughter to New York City some years ago to see gorgeous clothing from Downton Abbey - the fabrics, trims, workmanship, styles were exquisite and so much fun to see close up.

Oh my word!! You got to see some of the Downton Abbey costumes? That is the programme I always watch in my sewing room just to admire all the clothing. I need to research that now! Taking a photo sounds like a really good idea to me, I have in the past tried to write stuff down on filing cards but then forget.
Thanks so much for your comment, I am very envious you got to see those costumes! 🧵😊

Hi there, thanks so much for subscribing and also taking the time to comment. We actually live right the other side of Dorset on the Hampshire border. Our holiday home though is right on the other side of Dorset, what we refer to as 'Real Dorset'! I do know Honiton and of course drive through there often to get to Devon, like most people do.
You need to go to BTPD shop, it really is wonderful and Andrea is so lovely and welcoming, keep saving and maybe we shall meet there one day!
