I actually think that the little faux pas with the zipper works in your favour because it will make the zipper more secure and pocket stronger!

Funny you mentioned being left/right challenged: me too! I like to tell people, if you try talking about left or right with me, you have a 50:50 chance I’ll get it correct. With driving directions, I do much better with N, S, E & W; but that doesn’t help me navigate the left and right with sewing, lol.

When I am a passenger in a car directing I have to say at a junction, up or down to my husband and he knows I mean left and right 🤣. I can only think which way the indicator has to go! So British!! That is hilarious 🤣. I do know what you mean though. Foxgloves are lovely but they are SO poisonous and should never be touched. I don't know what Coral bells are but they sound pretty! Congratulations on your 100th episode of Friday Sews! The time has flown by! That jacket! What can I say? It’s perfect, and he surely thinks his granny is a magician! He is going to enjoy that jacket for a long time. You did a fantastic job on those shorts even if you could hang glide with those ties! I wonder if that is a mistake in the pattern? Surely it is, why would anyone need ties that long? I’m with you, cut them down to a normal length. I love that bag, I just might make one for myself, I’ve never used that bag pattern, but I’m willing to give it a go. I might have enough scraps to piece together to get a big bag like that. My daughter will take it away from me for a beach bag, though, so I guess I’ll make one for everyone, that’s what usually happens, isn’t it. Hi Sue, thanks for watching as always. Oh those ties are ridiculous aren't they, on the pattern it was shown as a large bow so it must be a real style feature. They will be cut down now believe me, they are a danger 😂. Re the bag, the minute my daughter saw it she said "oh I need that for a beach bag" , no chance I said. I picked up another curtain sample yesterday so I will make her another one! We have similar daughters by the sounds of it. We have arrived at the holiday home and the wind is howling and the rain is pouring, surely it can only get better from here on 🤣. Hope you have a great weekend 🧵😊

My son also loved Pokemon as a boy and he is jealous of Ollie's jacket! He also tells Ollie over and over that I wouldn't let him buy a shiny Charizard card for £20 ( ridiculous price back then) and now they are worth over £100k🤣. As far as the construction - the method for joining the legs that was actually the way I was taught to do them (though I never do them that way now 😂).
As for the Donny shirt I made it and it's lovely - all I would say is it's quite short so you may want to measure it and lengthen it if necessary. I made it in a viscose Challis and I love it.

I was also pleased to hear you made it in a Viscose challis as well with success. I was also so interested to hear that you had come across that method of trouser making before, I mean it worked but it felt weird to me! Thanks for watching 🧵😊

We just had a hail stone storm, so I think our weather is getting worse. We had to put heating on a few times during week. Kris and Alice are laughing that I have hot flashes to keep me warm ;)

Congratulations on 100 Friday Sews! I look forward to them every week. I love your red top, it looks lovely on you. And the bag, oh my, such awesome fabric and great job on the zipper. I think the shorts look fine on you, although the tie is ridiculously long, like you said. I'm know you plan to shorten it, and maybe instead of tying it into a bow just tie it into a loose knot. My family is here now and we are having a wonderful time together. When their vacation is over I am going to get back to sewing but at first just stuff for me. I think I would have made the same adjustments - darts in the back and partially sewn up pleats at the front. Having said that, I have never sewn a pair 😂 buuut, I felt so inspired by your other video where you featured favourite patterns and makes that now i want to make a pair of shorts using the pattern/s you used (ones with no pleats). Your sewing skill is truly exceptional so I doubt very much that mine will end up looking anything close to yours 😂, but would really love to give it a shot. Hi there, you are right that smile on Ollie made it all worth while! The trouble with the shorts I think is as you say, I love the others I make with the flat fronts. I need to find another pattern that is similar as I can't keep recommending a Kwik Sew pattern. I really appreciate your comment about my sewing, I always feel everyone else's sewing is far superior to mine but if mine looks ok on screen that is good enough for me!! Hi Carol, I love the Donny shirt I’ve made several. It is quite a boxy pattern but just add on an inch (or more) and it’s perfect. Also, a warning, I find the V neckline comes out quite low so I cut it half an inch higher. I’ve made it out of all types of fabrics and it does drape nicely in viscose. Hacked it into a long sleeve version too! Have fun!
Thank you so much for your hints on the Donny top. I have added the inch when cutting out so I am hoping I will be ok. Re the V, I am a little worried now but I can always sew it up a little bit or add a detail. I am using the viscose, as you say I think it needs to have a drape. Have a good weekend 🧵😊

I am 10 behind you on the Friday Sews I think! You would have sailed through the French pattern. It kept saying do this to the 'fork' all the time 🤣. It meant underlap I think! Hi Carol, I hope you have a wonderful vacation. I made the Donny Shirt twice. The first was a test. I found it to be too boxy and too cropped, so I added a small dart and two inches to the length. The second shirt came out very nice. I made it in viscous.

Hi Suzanne, thank you so much for the hints on the Donny shirt. So far when cutting out I have lengthened it by 1 inch bearing in mind I am short. The only problem with Burda instructions are that they are so tiny, the Germans must have better eyesight than us 🤣.

@@socarole66 Yes, Annabelle is going to be the future sewist in the family. She loves garment sewing and has made many embroidery projects. She can even thread my serger! So exciting. At least there's someone in my family I can share my hobby with! She reminds me of when I was a little girl and I fell in love with sewing. Of course there were no fancy machines back then. I love the Donny shirt pattern, have made a few. I always lengthen it and raise the v at the front as it’s very low. I was in Weymouth last week and managed to get to Beyond the Pink door, the shop is amazing

Carole, I have made a few Donny shirts out of viscose and love them. A drapey linen would be great, too. It's quite a versatile top in terms of the fabric you can use. Have a great holiday 😊

It's a wonderful pattern, but being on the shorter, chestier side myself, I would definitely recommend a drapey fabric. I made my 1st one out of a cotton lawn and even that tends to just come over my chest and kind of tent out. My next one will be a viscose so that the front will glide over the chest and relax closer to the body. Big YES for the Donny! I’ve made two and I love them. One in a cotton and one in a viscose twill. I don’t find them overly boxy, but the drape on the twill is lovely so definitely steer clear of the more structured fabrics. One word of warning about using lightweight linen, it has quite a big facing at the centre front which is topstitched down so if the fabric is in anyway sheer or lightweight you may be able to see the facing. But it’s a fab pattern and takes 1m! It’s cropped though… so just check the length too 😂 ok I’ll stop now 😊😊 have a lovely week!!

My son was really into it when he was small and is now jealous of Ollie's jacket! Funny how I do these things for the Grandkids and not my own when they were small. For the Donny I have cut out the viscose and added an inch to the length so I hope that will be ok as I am only short. Great point about linen and that placket. The versions on the cover look fabulous in linen but may feel too structured for me.

I just pulled out a a old Kwik sew pattern for pants and had those folds. I unpicked them and pulled out a Butterick pattern. I am going to use darts. I think you did a great save on the tote.

Thanks Carole. All your makes are fab. I agree with you on the shorts regarding the tie front. They are very long 😳, but no doubt you will sort this. You made me laugh with your left and right issues. I’m exactly the same and in order to accommodate this when travelling we use the “to me” or “to you” when a junction turn is required. It saves me getting it wrong 🤣My Lutterloh has arrived and other than the outer box being slightly torn and a bit scuffed (which I knew about) it’s in perfect condition. I don’t think it’s ever been used. The only thing is that while/whilst (which one 🤔) it was advertised as being 1974 it is actually mid 1980’s but I really don’t mind and having looked through it (and it came with an additional supplement) there are quite a few of the garments I hope to make. I can probably forgo some of the shoulder pads as my shoulders don’t need extra padding and in fact in the 80’s I often used to cut the shoulder pads out. I’ve also signed up for the annual subscription/supplements just to get me going. Finally how exciting that your going to visit Andrea at Beyond The Pink Door. I’m looking forward to hearing about it. With any luck at some point we’ll organise a trip in our motorhome down to your neck of the woods and I’ll get to visit the shop too. 😃👏🏻. Have a great holiday and at least you have enough sewing project to keep you going should the weather remain cold and rainy. 😕

Yay at last you have the Lutterloh system and are pleased with the patterns it came with. I am envious about your subscription but I suppose I do buy supplements every now and again. I can't wait to hear how you get on with it. Adam and I are very excited to go to BTPD on Friday, it will be fabulous (and expensive ) to see all those beautiful fabrics in real life! I actually think your shorts look great, but without the tie. You could definitely wear those out and about! I have made the Donny shirt and love it, it’s rather cropped so looks great just as it comes with high waisted trousers which are either fitted or wide legged. I used seersucker for mine, it isn’t particularly drapy, but very light. It sewed up pretty well but I did struggle with the centre point of the front collar, at bust level so maybe I didn’t understand the instruction there. Have fun on your week off! Xxx

Hey Carole! I was amazed that you have the same issue as I do: having to stop and really think when it comes to right and left. I've been aware of my problem since I was a young child and I've never told anyone about it (until now) because I felt quite embarrassed about it. Glad to know that I am in very good company! 🙂 When you described the little bag made with denim and fabric pieces, my guess was that you were talking about a Thuy Crafts video. I subscribe off and on to her channel to see if there is any other scrap project ideas I might want to make one day. (I have many YT library playlists of Watch Later videos for sewing, cooking, gardening, etc). So glad your grandson is extremely happy with his Pokémon jacket and that you can now check that box off. Question re: the outdoor photos you take and post: Are they taken with your cell phone, or do you use a real camera? I noticed you have two different shots of the cows - one at a distance and one zoomed in. Would love to know what equipment you use for your nature photography. Think I will try to find some fat quarters today and maybe do a small sewing project this weekend. Never be embarrassed about the right and left thing, I just think our brains work a different way. I am the brunt of many jokes in our family🤣. I have never come across Thuy crafts, where has that channel been all my life. Now to photos, I have quite a recent Apple Iphone 15 that has two lenses and I fine the quality is awesome. Every time they bring out a new I phone they get better, no need for a camera now. It is a 48megapixel camera according to Chris, he has just checked for me!
I really hope you do get to do just a little sewing this weekend, just to take your mind off everything. Some times just playing around with fabric is all you need. Take care my friend!xx💗

Google translate can give some quite unique translations. We received a sympathy card in Dutch from the Netherlands when my mother-in-law passed away. Both my husband and I speak a little Dutch, enough to get by, but my husband's Dutch is old Dutch and doesn't use modern terminology, since his parents left the Netherlands in the early 1940's. Mine is even older and from a different region, so might just ad well be a different language, as the dialect is more low Germsn than Dutch. So even though we knew what the note was likely saying in the card, we didn't know exactly what it said. So, I used Google translate. It translated the first sentence as "our condolences on the loss of your mother's hair." Lol. Enough said.
Oh my goodness, I know the whole story is sad but it did make me smile! Google translate should never be taken as gospel should it. It kept talking about forks to me in the pattern, so funny!

Could I ask if you put elastic into the yoga waistband, I like the idea but don't know if I could wear with just rubbing. Thank you for your video's.
Thanks for your comment. I am a bit confused about a yoga waistband? If you are referring to the PJs they aren't a yoga waist band it just looks like that as the fabric is different. It is a normal casing waistband and you add elastic. I put in some super soft plush back 1inch elastic. Hope that helps? 🧵😊

Hi Sue, thanks for your comment and watching. Now I last made this up in a 10, I used to make an 8 but I am bigger now. Before I cut this new one out I tried the previous one on and it doesn't have much ease at all. Mine is fitted to the bust if you know what I mean. Are there any finished garment measurements on the tissue paper? I hope that helps but the other thing you could do is check out Pattern Review.com to see what others have said, there are probably lots of reviews on there. Good luck 🧵😊

Hi again, oh dear no I didn't make those bags. I bought them from Amazon and they are brilliant. I don't have any plastic or pvc and even if I did, for what these cost I probably wouldn't make them anyway. Adam sews makes wonderful project bags!!
