To everyone saying 'la la la, wearing makeup makes your acne worse, la la la...' stop misinforming young teens who watch this video; firstly, watch my new videos, it's totally gone and I still wear makeup all the time :) HORMONES cause acne, not makeup :P Jeeeze! Seems like everyone on the internet seems to think they're a dermatologist. Once you alter your lifestyle, manage your stress, identify trigger foods & stick to a good routine etc etc (as outlined in my other videos) your skin will heal! This breakout from the video was caused by an un-diagnosed intolerance to whey (in milk) and I was taking whey protein shakes after workouts at the time. Once I stopped, it went very fast!

@Pamela O'Rourke, I'm not a 'makeup artist' so no need for all the negativity - I'm just an ordinary girl, I was having a breakout, subscribers asked me to do a video about how to cover it up when I was still a really small UA-camr, and this video just happened to go viral because it made people with acne feel more confident due to things I said in the voiceover and the fact that the redness is easily disguised. This was one of the first times I tried to film myself doing makeup & when you're starting out it's hard to do, so yeah. Not too happy with the finished result but meh, it's just a video ;)

creativityQ no it won't, makeup doesn't cause acne, only hormones and perhaps improper removal...my acne is gone, I still wear makeup.
good fr u that it's gone now , i use to have it too when i was a teen , about makeup i know it doesn't cause acne but it stops the skin from breathing! that's what i was talking about
creativityQ Hi! That may be true for the old make up formulations but we have some make up products which are labeled as non-comodegenic and does not clog pores (so the skin can still breathe). Mineral make-up is also becoming very popular and it's heaven sent as it is non-irritating and very gentle. I used to have bad acne as well and using safe make-up saved my social life. It is all about education. I'm glad kids these days are more confident like this youtuber :)

I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). It makes my hormones go crazy and I break out really bad. The pimples cause dark spots and readness that does not want to go away. I'm not someone who's insecure about my appearance. At the same time I want people to see me, not my acne. (I know that sounds weird.) I am going to try this technique on my acne. I hope it works! If not whatever. I'm not going to lose hope.
Carlisa Sobolesky I had horrible hormonal acne along w/only having 2-3 days per month w/o feeling severe cramps, nausea, sinus pain and having migraines and more. Anyway, I didn't want to try another birth control pill as an attempt to make things better but I'm glad that I gave it shot. The birth control named Ovcon 35 totally took away my painful hormonal acne and gradually lessened the other symptoms. My doctor ended up prescribing the birth control so I no longer experience a cycle BC the symptoms that lingered were still too much (acne issue was gone almost immediately) and I'm better as time goes on. I pray you're well soon.

Me too but I ws free acne for 2 years until now. and I started to have a break out again :( so now that I am not in high school (where I wasn't allow to use makeup) I would start covering it
I have this too. My face is a mess. My problem is I have dry skin and I can't use any facial scrubs or acne cream because they dry my face out that much I end up with impetigo. Don't feel comfortable putting make up on anymore as in the light you just see tons of marks which makes me so uncomfortable

Ok, so I remember watching this video over and over like 4 years ago, when i was really struggling with acne and having loads of insecurities, because even though i didn't have that much of makeup to use, it still made me fell better.
And here I am today, 4 years older, doing my studies, randomly watching it once again after such a long time and realising that i do my make-up in almost exactly same way, without ever planning on it!

Man going back and watching this video again after over 3 years brings back so many memories!! I came across this channel when I was the most depressed about the state of my skin I'd ever been. I was so desperate to find effective products and how to properly care for and apply makeup for when I absolutely had to go out and face the world with my severe cystic acne. So of course I consulted UA-cam and discovered this adorable Irish lovely!
Melanie was such a huge help in building up my confidence (and our little motivational SkinRevolution community!) and making me feel I wasn't alone with the acne struggles. I didn't know ANYONE with even a single bump on their face in my friend group so this was a huge deal for me!
Based on her recommendations, I stocked up an arsenal of beauty and skincare products and became much more knowledgable about skincare. My acne completely cleared up in 2015 after almost 8 years of hormonal hell (I remember being SO freaking pissed when it had actually gotten WORSE in my 20s than when I was going through puberty lol!)
But anyway, it's ridiculously awesome looking back and realizing how far we've come over the past few years! Ah that 2013 nostalgia!

Girl you have no idea how much this video has helped me cover up my acne and acne scars. I totally relate to having hormonal cystic acne and have been on a medication to balance my hormonal levels to prevent acne from forming since middle school. Thank you for this tutorial it helps so much! :)

I have three nasty marks on the tops of my cheeks. It still don't understand where they came from... but they upset me tremendously! I wouldn't mind if they were elsewhere, but because of where they are, when I watch myself back, when I look in photos, it's all I can see!
I'm getting to the point where I desperately want them removed. I spend ages trying to tear my face apart to get them off... It's really upsetting me :(.
I am struggling with makeup... nothing seems to cover them :(. Vlogging is one thing, but covering it when I leave the house is something else! I'll have a look into some of this as it gives me hope. Thank you xxxx
I understand how you feel about the spots. I have had pretty bad acne problems since I was very young. I do not have trich but I do have different issues with my nerves. I think you are so brave to stand up, face the world and say that you do have a problem that you will struggle with for the rest of your lifetime. But you don't let it control your life and keep you from doing what you love! I very much admire that! And I want to tell you that you don't HAVE to have perfect hair or skin to look beautiful! You are a beautiful person. Don't ever deny yourself that knowledge. And you make others feel less frightened by their dilemmas and problems! I've always thought to myself if I could just make one person in the world's life better then when I pass on I will be able to rest easy knowing that. You have touched so many lives! @Adelyn, it wont let me comment to you directly (stoopid new UA-cam commenting system) but here is my reply :): I don't wear that much product, just several ;) But only a little of each one, and not every day of the week :) My dermatologist explained that it is not stuff I'm applying to my face that causes my acne at all, it is purely because of hormonal imbalance & perhaps undiagnosed food intolerance (foods which impact hormones)
***** well, the various dermatologists I've seen and spoken to are not 'just silly'. Yes, genetic also, however that doesn't explain everything as I've had periods where I got rid of acne before too (using different pills and whatnot, I only came off them because of the side effects)...if it wasn't hormonal then NOTHING would fix it. Right now I've got no acne at all, because I've balanced my hormones naturally :) Just like my derm explained to me I could.

You can buy Zinc at the drugstore it is a vitamin, but do not take more than the recommended dose at it can cause nausea.

I honestly hate having acne and red skin, it gets me down and I feel like my boyfriend won't like me if I don't cover it up. Then I get shit for it, with people saying 'You shouldn't wear makeup, it'll make it worse' or 'It's still obvious'. But if I don't wear makeup people point it out or laugh at me and I feel horrible and depressed. I'm taking tablets for it that are helping and I'm planning on cutting out milk for a month, I also have a natural face wash with coconut oil and nice stuff. This video really helped me though, thank you! ♥

Miss Melanie, I commend you for your bravery! Not only for going completely bare-faced for millions to see but also how you handle online bullies. I was bullied in high school and have been battling acne for years (I'm 25 now). My acne is finally gone after switching to an all natural skin care routine: hempseed oil for cleansing & removing makeup, witch hazel as a toner, and almond oil as a moisturizer (I'm oily & acne prone). No matter what anyone says, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! You have model-like features and the cutest accent :) where are you from?
