Formed in the UK, the duo are Marcella Detroit (American) who was the first vocalist and Siobhan Fahey (Anglo-Irish and ex-Bananarama) who was the Angel of Death. They had other hits but that was by far their biggest. They were only together as a duo for four years before falling out.

Shakespears Sister was originally a solo project for Siobhan Fahey after Bananarama. Her then husbond David A. Stewart from Eurytmics and the producer brought in Marcella Detroit to help with the songwriting. They saw the chemistry between Fahey and Detriot and decided to make them a group. They recorded Sacred Heart 1989 and Hormonally Yours 1992. Detroit left and Fahey continued recording #3 2004 and Songs From The Red Room 2009. After a hiatus they reunited in 2019 and released Ride Again (5 songs). Check out You're History, Break My Heart, Let Me Entertain You, Hello (Turn The Radio On), Goodbye Cruel World and I Don't Care. Marcella Detroit aka Marcella Levy (Marcy) did some great solo albums. Check out Jewel, I Believe, Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing feat. Elton John and I Hate You Now. She also took part in a British tv programme called Popstar To Operastar. She were number 3. Did a phenomenal version of Mozart's Queen Of The Night Aria from The Magic Flute. It can be found on UA-cam

Shakespeares Sister was started by Siobhan Fahey and was meant as a solo act. But Marcella Detroit (born Marcy Levy) was working on the first album, as were many others. Dave Stewart first suggested it, then the record label convinced Fahey to form a duo with Detroit. Fahey reportedly wasn't overly happy with the idea but accepted the situation. The band was somewhat successful. But this song was a monster hit, and that video helped. Suddenly people who were unaware of the band previously thought Detroit was the main component. This was shattering for Fahey, who felt like her brain child was being taken away from her. There was a lot of arguments and Detroit was fired from the band. The women didn't speak to each other for over 25 years. Fahey released several more albums, all more alternative and rock oriented -- which is what she had always wanted. It's why she'd left Bananarama, which started as a punk band before the label changed their image. Fahey and Detroit finally reunited in 2019. They released some new stuff and have said there will be more music to come. Whether there will be remains to be seen. Covid knocked a lot of plans askew.

*Fun fact* The shoot for this video took way longer than expected, and everybody was getting bored, so Siobhan (the second female performer) went for a wander within the town, found a bar and got absolutely smashed on vodka. This legit scared me as a kid and I don’t know why. I think maybe it was that creepy line “you better hope and pray” like she’s a booger man or something. It’s a good song though. Some weird artsy stuff but it was like a movie or something.

The main singer on this song is aka Martika. She has several solo songs that are amazing.

The 1st singer was his controlling addiction, the 2nd singer was his escape, Death.
