I played Dead Space on my dock in 4K 60 and it was flawless. Not a demanding game by any means but still impressive for a handheld. This thing surprises me more and more everyday.
Ah man it’s crazy right? It never crossed my mind that those older games would run so well on something as small as the steam deck. Glad you’re enjoying it mate
The Steam version? I also wanted to play the original before the new remake next year but in Germany they pulled the steam version from the storefront. I’ve got the original on disc and could make an image of it but how to install this windows version on the Linux steam deck? 😩
YOUR CHANNEL IS GREAT. Please keep up the videos, also dont be afraid to branch out to ther stuff just because the steam deck got you a bunch of eyes on you lol. Your channel is a hidden gem and people come for your amazing personality. Keep up the good work!
Ahh dude thank you so so so much 🙏 You have no idea how much I appreciate you saying that. Im excited to try some different video ideas. Would be amazing if people came along for the ride 😊 Have a great day man ⭐
Just to add if you are travelling via airlines keep in mind that 27000mAh is generally the max *most* airlines will allow you to take oboard. So for a charger for all scenarios...20000 is probaby the most versatile :) Great video!
DUDE!?!? This is unbeeeelievably kind. Thank you so so much 🙏 But please never feel like you need to donate money, it's honestly never expected. Im just so glad you're enjoying the videos 😊 Thank you so so much 🙏 I hope you have a great rest of your day! You've certainly made mine 😄
@@mike.barnes Man, you should consider creating a 'Join'-able group where people like me can chip in once a month. I know you're not looking for financial gain, but I also know that making content costs time, effort and in the case of 'product reviews' can cost money! :o
You have such a friendly and informative personality, I really like your channel dude. Been looking for Deck stuff for the future, and this video really helped me narrow things down. I'm really sad that you don't have more subs but I'll subscribe if that helps!
Ahh thank you so much dude, I really appreciate it 😄 Honestly mate I'm so grateful that I have 5000 subs as it is! Having a blast being a small channel, but thanks so much for the sub 😊 Have a great day my man
SanDisk has a good reputation but I don't think it has anything over other cards. My Lexar 1TB SD card has loading time with up to 150MB/s read speed and A2-rated performance. I'm experiencing no lag playing any of my games from that card. Days Gone runs as fast on my Steam Deck as it does on my PC. This is an amazing piece of kit. I'm so glad I bought the 64GB Deck and upgraded it with a SK Hynix 512GB NVMe PCIe M2 2230 SSD. I don't have the anti-glare etched glass screen but I saved almost $200.00 with the DIY approach.
I rarely drop my expensive devices on accident so I still bought the KillSwitch just so I can not constantly worry about accidentally dropping it or something else happening to the steam deck. The KillSwitch is a amazing case and I like it a lot, paired with the included skin it just totally enhanced the device.
I just dropped my Steam Deck and broke a bumper. It's currently in for repair. But that instantly made me order a case and a screen protector haha. I've been using the Steam Deck pretty much every day since it arrived back in March. Looking forward to getting it back again in working order.
Ive got the same screen protector, the slight image blurr is nothing compared to how good the screen look when its not shining under every possible angle. Should be a must buy for everyone
Mike Barnes with the craft's teacher vibes. Fan of these videos please keep em up! I already have the SanDisk Ultra and the official deck. I need to get a get a good set of headphones, need to put it in the time to find a pair that are good for mixing but also affordable. Thanks again.
@@mike.barnes I am loving it 😀 The only problem is there are too many games I want to play I never got the chance to play before. I really want to try Elden Ring on the steam deck it looks incredible. Not sure if you will but do you have any tips on safely emulating, I'm hoping to emulate the ps2 lord of the rings games but I have never done emulation before 😃
At the skit in 8:33 you sound so much like Vince Noir (Noel Fielding) in The Mighty Boosh, in intonation and mannerisms and everything. I mean that in the best way.
I probably won't get a film protector but instead use Velcro to attach a microfibre cloth to cover the screen when not using plus can wipe the screen after every use.
Ha, I also went with the brotect protector, have it on for several months, it's holding up great! I don't mind the little optical influence to be honest. I just ordered the 64 gig variant because I knew that I will put on a matte protector anyways, and upgraded the internal SSD to 512 gig :) decked out deck on the cheap.
I'm not including links so Mike can reply with his affiliate links to the recs below, but just ust to add to your headphone recommendations: Skullcandy Hesh ANC Wireless Over-Ear Headphones And Skullcandy Jib True Wireless In-Ear Earbud Are my personal picks. They're both super high quality for their price, and the jib true is one of the very few truly wireless headphones I've seen that let you use either ear on their own, rather than requiring a specific earbud to always be on for under $30.
One thing on the sd cards. For most games you don't need a good read and write speed, however some games access the memory more than others. So games like fallout 4 and borderlands 3 stutter more on slower sd cards. I went from a 90ms SanDisk ultra with a decent (but not unplayable) level of stuttering in fallout 4, it was decreased on the faster sd cards and almost zero when I transfered it to the internal SSD memory
I actually have a 1tb A3 card and many said that would be very slow but honestly. All my steam games are on the SD and all roms on my deck. The only thing that is slow is writing speed but reading works just as fast as if it was on the deck. Even big AAA games.
Great video! I'm currently waiting for my steam deck. Think I will have to splash out on a decent case as I am clumsy and have two kids 😅 shame about having to wait till next year for the killswitch.
I'm fortunate to have some pretty decent JBL headphones but if I really want excellent quality I have some Bang & Olufsen cans. By far one of the best headsets I've owned, but extremely expensive. Not really tried a dock yet but I'm tempted. Just not sure how much I would use it.
Thank you mate! Nooo I haven’t tried that as of yet. I would guess that the easiest way to do that would be to install windows? Then install your daw of choice from there? I’m an Apple lameo and logic is my fav, so unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to run that on the deck. Lemme know if you have any luck though! 😊
What doesn't make sense to me is that the steam deck's internal battery is 5,313mAh. So a 20,000mah battery should technically almost charge it 4 times. or am I missing something?
Hey man! Yes I thought the exact same thing, but apparently there’s some difference in capacity between the battery packs and the steam decks battery which means it won’t charge as much as 4 times unfortunately. ETA prime mentions it on his steam battery pack video. I should have mentioned that in the video, apologies!
There is an app for the dualsense where you can use the adaptive triggers. You have to first connect by cable and choose how they will react. Then you pull out and the controller remembers how you setup your triggers.
A2 stands for the application support, and it deals with the caching ability of the SD card for fast reads and rights, a2 requires host support, so in this case steam os/linux needs to support it(technically the Linux kernel needs to support it and the one valve is using currently does not), unfortunately at this time it does not, a one on the other hand does not require OS support coincidentally this means A1 cards actually work slightly faster than a2 in the steam deck it does not mean a2 cards are bad, but you are leaving some Reed write performance on the table, and generally spending more money to do so
Hey man! Thanks for coming back 😊 I mainly use my Audio Technicas when doing any music/video editing as I find they’re a little more neutral sounding? But the Sonys would be toootally fine for video editing I think
Kill switch is freeking amazing I can just throw it in my bag without worrying as its so tough yet takes up no extra space. The steam case just took up too much room I had too actually buy a bigger bag for it.
Potential correction: I'm pretty sure the microSD read & write speed is limited to 100mb/s due to hardware. I've watched testing by two other UA-camrs and that was their result as of now. Maybe that'll change but for now don't waste money on an expensive, bottlenecked microSD
Not really looking for accessories for mine at all, but this was still a solid video with great editing and good jokes sprinkled in at just the right times. c:
I've got the 512GB Samsung Evo Plus which is the same card (the "Select" is just the Amazon branded version of the "Plus") and, yes, it's wicked fast. I can't tell which games are on the SSD vs the microSD based on perceived load speed.

Just to confirm. Yes, the PS5 controller's touchpad does work as a mouse cursor
Yesssssss my man, thank you for confirming! 🙏

The DualShock 4's does work too :)
