    One thing worth noting about the Steam Deck is that unlike the Switch very few game developers have actually optimized their game for the handheld form factor. Valve knew about this so offer optimization tools to the end in order for them to have full control of battery life and noise levels. I personally have no experience with the OLED model (and the TDP levels are different from the LCD model), but on the LCD model it seldomly makes sense to run the device above 10W TDP, Because the Steam Deck is most efficient at 5-10W, after that you get very little extra performance back for all the power drain and added heat.
    A lot of games scale beautifully, if they only need ~5W they will only draw 5W power... But then there are games/game engines like Cyberpunk, where the game engine itself uses every last bit of power to keep the CPU "busy" in order to maximize performance on desktop computers. This is of course terrible on a battery driven handheld. So even if you lower settings, it will always draw all the power it can from the battery. Increasing noise levels, drastically reducing battery life. Even if you can't experience the performance benefits.
    To put it really simple. If a game makes the fan spin loudly or drain your battery quickly, open the performance tab, add a TDP limit. and start reducing it, if the game performs poorly, reduce settings, perhaps add an FPS cap at 40- or 30fps. This will drastically improve battery life and noise levels. :) Hopefully devs will target the Steam Deck in the future, and not only target the full 15W but rather the more reasonable 5-10W range.

      Pinned your comment because I think this is really helpful especially if anyone is experiencing any issues as you said with games like cyberpunk with the earlier steamdeck struggled with , one I'm currently trying to optimise for myself is god of war 2018 off the bat it doesn't run amazing for me but I'm also trying to see both sides of the coin as the difference between this screen and say my PC monitor is vast

      Fuck the Steam Deck, the switch will always be a better system.Nintendo was first to boot. I had a steam deck half the games. I wanted to run it wouldn't run. I ended up selling that piece of shit because I didn't want to deal with games that were only optimized to run on the Deck. Oh, what's that you wanna play games that weren't designed to run on the deck that doesn't say runs. Good on deck. Well, fuck you, then you can go play that shit on a computer, no fuck you valve, I will keep my PS5 and my Switch.Thank you. You can shove the pc crap up your ass.You elitist motherfucker

    just an correction, the verification process is:
    Verified (Green)
    Playable (Yellow)
    unsuported (Red)
    Unknow (Gray)
    Playable is the easiest to understand, means you can play on the deck.
    Unknow refers to everything valve havent had the time to test yet.
    Unsuported means that the last time valve did their quality assurance, the game was not working, or maybe it was missing some features, in some cases minor features that dont affect much of the experience but they want to make sure the consumer wont be missing anything.
    unsuported is a bit controversial because sometimes valve test something and a few time after they tested it, an new version of their compatibility layer or some change in the game make it start working, so a lot of people say that the unsuported rating dont means anythings, while it actuall do, its just that its an immense ammount of effort to test all the games, let alone test then more than once to see if they are already working or not yet.
    as for Verfied, means the same as playable, except that it has an optimal experience on the deck, with things like big text fonts to make it easier to read.

    I've been wanting to buy a steam deck ever since it was first announced, I had a few questions about the steam deck though
    1. So I have a switch lite, a new Nintendo 3ds xl (it's modded) and I commute a lot to my college lectures, because of that I mainly use either my 3ds or switch when I'm waiting for my next lecture to start or If I have a few minutes to game. The Switch was great when it first came out but since the rise of handheld PC's, I don't see a reason to go back to the Switch. I preordered my SteamDeck when it first came out and never looked back. Screen looks great, face buttons feel nice, bluetooth support for almost any wireless controller, docks only cost around 20$, plus a bigger game library. I was having a good time then I discovered you can mod the SteamDeck and oh boy... there's REALLY no reason to get a Switch now. You can literally play Switch games on the Steam Deck. As well as nearly every console before it. I'm talking Switch, Xbox, PS3, PS2, PS1, Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, Dreamcast, NintendoDS/3DS, Gameboy. The list goes on and on, only adding THOUSANDS of more games you can play. Safe to say I love my SteamDeck, so I'd recommend one for anyone interested. Great video too, I'm definitely subscribing.

    I really like the Steam Deck and I think the layout of it is amazing. The main problem I have with it is the price. The steam Deck OLED costs $689 CAD for 512gb and $819 for 1tb. Both those cost more than a new PS5 or series X. I got a really good deal for the switch lite (brand new) on marketplace for $160. I recently bought a Steam Deck OLED, and my eyes get terribly tired and even hurt from using it. Everything looks overly sharp and angular, and I can clearly see the edges of all objects. I didn't notice this on the IPS screen of my Switch, where the edges seemed smoother. Do you have a similar feeling?

    • @lunawolfcrossing
      @lunawolfcrossing  Місяць тому +1

      It's probably an option you've already fiddled with but I turned my brightness down about just under halfway I also see a setting to adjust colours if that's helpful? Personally I have blue tint glasses so I don't get headaches much anymore. I can see what you mean about the sharpness of objects but I kind of like it feels more crisp to me but I can see why switch could be better suited I hope I could help!

    • @mql5_algo
      @mql5_algo Місяць тому +1

      @@lunawolfcrossing thank you for your response. I haven't tried reducing the brightness yet, but I did try limiting the refresh rate to 60 Hz (it's set to 90 Hz by default), and it seems to have helped a bit. But I will definitely try glasses with a blue tint. If that doesn't help either, I'll have to return the Steam Deck to Valve and buy the version with an IPS screen.

    A childs toy or a handheld gaming pc, how is this even a question for an adult? plus steam sales, free epic games, piracy is even on the table if your willing...Switch games are overpriced and never go on sale so pay a little extra for the deck now and save thousands later in games.

    • @LeKretch
      @LeKretch Місяць тому

      Agree they are so overpriced however I got a switch recently for the living room and there always seems to be sales on. The first party games don’t really come down but like steam sales, you can pick up a few games for a few quid
