1)Can we keep it near the window? Will the water get green with alge?
2)What are the natural fertilizers used?
3)What are the best plants for beginners?

Maricris Bonzo you don't need to do that, there's a natural bacteria that you can put a few drops of it in there whenever algae starts to grow. Look around fish stores

The best fertilizer for waterplants are fishes and apple snails. Fishes make ther poo and pee in the water, and they breath CO2 in the water. The CO2 is absorbed by the water plants. The pee and the poo of the fishes is turned into nitrite. The water filter with water bacteria turns the nitrite into nitrat. This is what fertilizes the water plants. Water plants and fishes are like a biotope in an aquarium. They get into balance. If there is too much nitrite and nitrate in the water, together with the light you will get algas. To prevent this, you always need fast growing swimming plants in an aquarium and change 1/3 of the amount of water weekly. If you have fishes like guppies or platies, the swimming plants are the place where their babies hide and grow, otherwise they are eaten by the adult fishes.
In an aquarium or zoo shop you get special fertilizer for water plants. Sometimes you want to add CO2 to the water for making plants grow better, there are special devices which can do that. The typical lights for aquariums are enought for water plants. It is a bluish light which is good for the growth of plants. You should avoid sun light for an aquarium at any cost. Sun light can cause an uncontrolled growth of algas which you don't like. Filamentus algae might be annoying, you have to collect it by drilling them like spagethies around a fork. Blue algues are dangerous, you notice it, because they smell like salmiak.
Running an aquarium requires skills, experience and the exchange with more experienced aquarists. The rule is: a bigger aquarium is easier to run, because a large amount does not get as fast out of balance as a smaller amount of water. 160 litres are not too big and easy to run for a beginner. Start with easy fishes and plants and improve slowly.
One hint about the water: You cannot run an aquarium with plants and fishes in tap water. The water has to rest at least for two weeks. Just put the gravel, stones and the water in the aquarium, start the filter and let it run for 2 weeks, befor you put any plant or fish into it. The reason is, that tap water is dead and contains unwanted dissolved gases. In aquarium water there has to grow water bacterias. They live in the water and especially in the foam and material in the filter device. Maybe you can use a quick starter which puts a bacteria culture in the water, than it might take 3 to 5 days, but I never made good experience with this.
But I am curious and ready to learn. How are your water plants growing now, 3 months later? Is there algae in the water? Do the plants grow or rot? Is there a snail plague? I never had a pure plant basin. I had one which I used to increase plants, but I had at least 2 or 3 sucking loaches and one ancistrus in it, which cleaned the ground and glass from algae. I never had single water plants just in glasses. So I am curious about your experience.

Oh gosh thanks so much for this detailed comment! You must be an aquarium expert! I appreciate all your tips! 😊 I must say that after 3 months most plants are still looking great except of the penny worth. It unfortunately won’t survive over winter but in knew this in beforehand. I realised that the Alternathera plant needs more caring and attention than the others and it starts to turn brown slowly. Other than that I do have a few snails every now and then but not a plague. I continue to change the water every 7-10 days and they are doing good. I haven’t added any fertiliser for a couple of weeks now and want to see what happens. I’m also very curious if they will survive the winter time but I’m optimistic! 😊

Hi, this is partly true, but not completely correct. Aquatic / aquarium plants do not get all the nutrients they need, from fish and snail waste only. If you want a lush aquarium and good plant growth with healthy plants, then specialized nutritional supplements intended for aquarium plants are absolutely necessary. -especially after some time, since the original and natural content of nutrients that were added during start-up, will eventually be depleted. Without ekstra addition of a complet macro nutrient suplement at mainly, but allso micro nutrients to the aquarium, nutrient disease will eventually sooner or later occur on the aquarium plants. :)

If you are interested in making your own plant food there are 2 fairly easy recipes that would work well. F.P.J. = Fermented Plant Juice & L.A.B. Lactic Acid Bacteria. You make them from waste material so it is very sustainable. If you are interested I can point you in the right direction. Great video by the way, very clean shots.!

Amazing idea and great video too! Thanks for all the info: I might try it out! I recommend Bokashi composting for making your own fertilizer: you can compost almost anything that way, it doesn't smell so you can keep it indoors, and it produced this fertilising "bokashi tea" that you can dilute and use for watering your plants, as well as using the compost matter to fertilise your soil for the normally potted plants!

    • @L93NB

    • @finallyiamnoone
      @finallyiamnoone 4 роки тому

@@L93NB yeah, I've been using it with normal houseplants, and they seem to like it! You have to dilute the "tea" in water 100:1 so it's not too strong, and the whole system is vegan friendly too!

I personally dont think you should clean the water so often. I have heard once there are also a lot of good things in the water the plant needs (like hormones or something), which in this case you throw away. I believe this was about cuttings though, so maybe its different with water plants. Anyways thanks for sharing this video. Never thought about keeping water plants 😊👐🌿

thanks for the comment! 😊You are true there are also a lot of good bacteria which the plants develope :) But the problem is, that the plants can start to smell if you leave the water in there too long therefore I would change it regularly. But a few weeks after I made the video I also realised that every 7-10 days is totally enough! 😊

Hello! -This was a nice video video to watch! It contains your happy, good vibes, (perhaps a good personality too? :) )
It is allso a well made video. So my first coment to this is: -This is a nice pieace of video work, and you have done a very good job! :D But there is some information that maybe could, or might should or perhaps would be benficial to you, or some viewers no know, so Ithought I might write a few lines here in the coments:
-since I am an aquarist, and have many aquariums as well as countless glass jars and vases in every single window at home, with aquatic branches in, I might have some good advice and info to offer. When it comes to nutrition for the plants in your video, I can offer the most important and basic info about the best choices for these on the market. The most convenient fertilizer you can give the submerged plants you show in your video, and which are mainly sold in aquarium stores, is the plant nutrients as they sell in the same stores, to precisely these, and similar aquatic plants. But, be aware, that Some aquatic plants take up nutrients down from the substrate, and these plants benefit most from plant nutrients in the form of pellets or tablets, which are placed down the substrate below the plant root. Some aquatic plants, on the other hand, will probably not survive, at least not for very long, if the main stem is buried in the substrate. These thrive best by being attached to a tree root, a rock or similar above the substrate, and these absorb nutrients from the water. These types of plants, benefit most from a liquid fertilizer. There is also plant nutrition especially for pond plants and other swamp plants. I will not elaborate on that here, but wanted to mention it, in case anyone wants to have water lilies in their water garden. These species benefit most from nutrients adapted specially to this kinds of plants. When it comes to the emersed plant in your video, it is a floating plant by the name Pistia Statiotles, comonly called Water Cabbage or Water Lettuce. It is sometimes sold in aquariums trade, but is actually more suited as a garden pond or patio pond plant due to its ability to grow huge under the right conditions. The largest specimen of this species I have had personally, was almost 40 cm in diameter, including the offshoots. So especially this one, and some other larger floating plants, such as the well-known Water Hyacinth, are therefor, found most easily in garden pond shops. When it comes to The many veriaty of smaller species of floating plants, you can most often find them in the aquarium trade. Alternatively, you can also buy similar and other versions of plant nutrients for aquatic / aquarium plants, sump and pond plants online. There is an infinite amount of such products in the trade, but the quality varies greatly. Therefore, I would also recommend researching a bit about the product you are considering buying, before you buy it. For those with some experience, it is also possible to buy each specific type of micro or macro nutrient in a separate product, and thus have the opportunity to put together nutrition specifically for your own plants, by how you want or need the plant nutrient content to be. I think one of the most common and well-known of these types of special single additives is the iron supplements, which all the red aquatic plant species need extra supplements of, to highlight the often powerful, red hues. Finally, I should perhaps also mention a completely different kind of nutritional supplement. It is well known in the aquarium hobby, but others might never heard about it. That is the products comenly called just liquid carbon. Very simply explained, this is a liquid nutrient, which is used as an easy alternative, and / or as a cheaper alternative, than CO2 gas injection, which is quite expensive to install due to the technical equipment needed. I hope somone might benefit my coments, but most of all, I wish for U all a happy experience and success with your own personal water garden!
