I sifted through about 10 vids on this topic. I suffered time wasting insults, like lengthy childish intros, having the basic function of a multi-meter explained and some erroneous information. Your video is concise and helpful and explains the features the manual that comes with these products seems to omit. Watched it twice. Thanks.
5:57 This was why I almost gave up and paid someone to do this for me. I had all the wiring done, but for some reason it wouldn't work. It was because I plugged in my fuse tap the wrong way. Thanks guy!
could not agree more. i heard it vaguely mentioned once in a different video and couldn't find it explained anywhere. this delayed my install by a few days because i didn't want to go ahead and do it without fully understanding it first.
I paid someone to wire mine originally. Two car batteries and 3 years later, when installing a new dashcam myself, I found that they wired it directly to constant power with no low voltage cutoff, which explains why my batteries kept dying. If you want it done right, do it yourself.
Yeah. I’m gonna agree with most of the other comments about how this video is very well edited, planned, and put together. This is a good example of what UA-cam content should always look like for instructional videos. Great job! Now I feel much more confident installing this and I really appreciated the point about testing the polarity to know which side is the hot side before adding the fuse tabs.
If you want to install this hardwire kit and NOT needing it constantly powered, then just connect the fuse tap to a 12V ignition power source (instead of constant 12V). Doing it this way will have the dashcam turn off when you ignition is off.
@@dial2fast in my previous vehicle I connected the Dashcam to a fuse for the air conditioning (device that only comes on when you turn in the car). However, I’ve done the same in my 2016 Altima and no matter what I’ve connected the Dashcam to (A/C controller switch, navigation system) it seems to have constant power.
This is by far one of the best videos I've seen for hardwire for a dashcam. This video explains in detail when it comes to the direct power of the fuse. Great video
7:25 To anyone installing your dashcam for the first time, just make sure you run your cable behind and not in front of any airbags in your car's A pillar.
Absolutely. Most likely the wire will not stop a deployment, however, if anchored well at both ends, it sure can cut the bag, preventing it from inflating correctly.

Hi, it's now July 2021 and 3.5 years later and almost 350K views. Such an excellent video it makes other videos seem useless in comparison. Looking forward to more ! Thanks :)
Thank you. That is very informative. I bought a hard wire kit for the dash cam that I'm about to install in my daughters car. I asked at the shop if it was easy to install and their technician said that it was. All I had to do was find the wiring under the bonnet (hood) with constant power and switched power as well as an earth. When I opened the kit, it was very similar content wise to yours. Having watched your video, it is a much easier job using the fuse box than he intimated. My only difficulty is there is the tighter space in a Skada Fabia 3 fuse box. I'll take a look at hard wiring my own dash cam too, which has a different connection on the power lead.
Thank you very much! This was a HUGE help! I had actually just gave up for the day when I watched this and decided to go back out and add a 5amp fuse to the fuse tap for the dash cam along with the 15 amp that was already there. I thought by all the other videos that since the dash cam only draws like an amp maybe two that I could just tap into the existing fuse without malfunction but that’s exactly what I got was an error upon starting my truck saying I had a malfunction in the same area I had tapped into. You saved me from going to a shop to have them finish it for me. God bless!
Well explained. I made the mistake of populating one fuse socket on the piggy back cable, on connecting to central locking fuse. Camera worked fine, but I couldn't lock my car! Soon realised why. The cables did not with any instructions. May be obvious, but do not use a fuse that is connected to critical systems, eg. ABS brakes, or engine management systems.

Good setup you got there! Was thinking to buy hardwire kit for my Garmin dash cam but its cost like 30$ so was thinking why not buy a 12v socket extender for 5$ bucks and then hardwire it working the same as long you not going with parking mode.
Great video.. But always connect to the camera before you put the wires around your pillars... Could have a bad wire and have to take everything apart again
Thank you very much for this video. This was my first time wiring direct to the fuse box. I took my time with your clear instructions/information . I took time deciding if I wanted it always on vs when I turn on my truck and which fuse I wanted to piggyback. I have a ROAV Dashcam C1 Pro which have a built in battery so I went with the latter. Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Thank for thr video! New to electrical and I was curious as to why my hardwire kit was not powering my dashcam but I think @6:00 explains my issues. Gonna flip the connection and see what happens, thanks!!! Great video and clear explanation 👌
Good video. The only thing I don't like is the need to manually switch the dashcam on & off every time the vehicle is used because of the need for permanent power for the Parking/Motion monitor.
Very neat install! I want to hard wire my dash cam as you have done. I already have the required wire and I hope my 2014 Odyssey has a fuse that has power to it when the car is off.

Yes you can use the 10A on top and keep the original at the bottom. All dashcams use less than 5A current. So technically, you can put 5A at the top, but I am was just using what came with the hardwire kit.
Superb and Quality workmanship , I have an E class 2017 , W213 model any chance of demo how to fit dash cam to this model please , if it is not possible , could you tell me where I can locate the Fuse for the cigarette lighter . Many Thanks Alan
Very good videp. I'm pretty good at using fuse taps for many things on my cars, but this was very helpful and easily instructional for those who havent. But... a question.... Can you use this kit for a dashcam that you are NOT going to have powered constantly? I can just install the fuse tap into a switched 12V source right? I'm not sure I trust the auto off feature of the kit to keep my battery safe. I dont know yet if my Rexing V1P 3rd gen even does parking mode....
Great video congratulations. Just a doubt. When you park your car and turn the car off, how it starts to record parked: 1) when you hit the door and the sensor detects the movement and starts recording (Parking mode), or 2. It doesn't stop recording all the way until you power off the dashcam manually? Thanks.
It is a great video that explained how to do direct power installation, however the fact that you need switch off dash cam every time you are leaving the car turns this video useless.
Why? The goal was to have parking monitor on. Which is why he needed a constant 12v to keep the camera running even while the car was turned off. If you wanted the camera off as soon as you switch off the ignition then plug the cable in a different fuse its as easy as that. Use the multimeter. If there is no 12v reading when the ignition is off but there is a 12v reading as soon as you start the ignition then thats the right fuse for you to use. If its constant 12v reading no matter what then thats the right fuse for those who want to use parking monitor. It was actually very helpful if you actually listened
I have a question about the crimping wires part. Do you only put in the exposed metal into the add a fuse area? Or do you just put in the wire all the way till you couldn't go anymore?
When you crimp a wire, you first have to strip the end about 1/4" to expose the wire. Then insert the wire into the crimp connector until part of the wire's insulation is also in the crimp connector (so no bare wires exposed on the outside to cause any short). The bare wire should be inside the metal part of the crimp connector, then use the tool to crimp it down.
I sifted through about 10 vids on this topic. I suffered time wasting insults, like lengthy childish intros, having the basic function of a multi-meter explained and some erroneous information.
Such a clean video, thanks!
Great vid! Thanks for posting.
This is a great vid, thanks..
Legend mate👍🏻
Great video congratulations. Just a doubt. When you park your car and turn the car off, how it starts to record parked: 1) when you hit the door and the sensor detects the movement and starts recording (Parking mode), or 2. It doesn't stop recording all the way until you power off the dashcam manually? Thanks.
Thank you for this video.
Thanks for sharing
thank you!
great instruction
Fast forward to 2022. Are hardwire kits for dashcams nowadays can be installed the same way on your tutorial? Specifically for Azdome M550.
