    As a Canadian born in Canada, I wanted to better understand the view from immigrants. Very informative. Very well communicated. Immigrants that come here with the right attitude are really helping to make this country a better place.

    Nice video Seyi. The thing is, if you’re coming from Nigeria all these factors won’t deter you because your first priority is to escape from lack of electricity, armed robbers, kidnappers, Fulani herdsmen, SARS/SWAT, poor medical facilities, bad roads and the more than 1000 ways to die early in Naija. So being rich does not save you from any of the above maladies. So, except those who have not evaluated their reasons for relocating, staying alive and stability is a key driver for many. Keep up the good work. 👍

      Very valid point. The way a guest on my channel put it - In Nigeria we are battling external demons, but in Canada those things are gone, we now have to battle internal demons. So safety and security is key. Wealth cannot help with that.

    My husband is Japanese. Half of his perceptions are exactly opposite to yours (he thinks Canadians are loud and often impolite). I guess it really depends on where you start from as to what you'll think is different or difficult to adjust to here. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

      Japanese people are generally really cultured and discipline people so, It's not surprising.

    • @corykobbert
      @corykobbert 3 роки тому +4

      Japanese politeness is determined by status in a given situation, so this still applies. In my experience of living in Japan, with extended Japanese family whose worked for an extended period of time in a Japanese workplace, what you mean by cultured is not reflected in the culture in the way you might mean.

There are some things that you will get used to after living in Canada for a while, depending on the type of person you are, but if some of these points seem like a big change from your lifestyle or personality and values, it's important to really think about if you want to move to Canada. Sometimes I don't get these discussions.... Can you compare the benefits of security and healthcare in Canada but are non-existent in Nigeria?.....
    Most high-salaried private and public workers in Nigeria can't afford healthcare in Nigeria, they can't even travel outside the country with their family for fun time etc.....
    No matter who you are and how much you make in Nigeria, you're one sickness away to your demise... The life expectancy in Canada is 82 years and Nigeria is 54 years....
    So IMO, the question of if you're making good salary in Nigeria don't come to Canada should not even arise....

    • @FeyiMac

      While I understand your POV, this video is out to set expectations.
      We have Nigerians in our communities over here who have left Canada for Nigeria out of frustration, after toiling, because they could not make ends meet here.
      For that reason, I say think twice and weigh your options before relocating to Canada, if you're making an extremely high salary in Nigeria, as said in the video. "Extremely high" being a relative phrase.
      There are several other countries that might give the best of both worlds depending on the business or job the person does, doesn't have to be Nigeria.

Please Feyi pick me for the IELTS sponsorship I’m working on my transcript for WES and I’m going to write TEF which is twice the price of IELTS and I’ll be grateful, and I’ll use this opportunity very well.

    This video is pure gold. The funniest part is when Feyi did the cute Canadian accent of the neighbour who called the police on loud tenants. But having "A1 mental" is very important. If your support network isn't strong, when those short, dark winter days arrive, your mood may decline. Related to that, if you aren't comfortable with uncertainty, anxiety may arise as well. In a nutshell the message of being open to change and unlearning past beliefs is helpful. Culture shock is real.

    This is such a good video on some of the challenges that new immigrants to Canada might face and a very eye opening perspective for me to understand ways that new immigrants might be shocked by Canadian culture. Looking back now, I can see many instances in my life where I've seen new immigrants face challenges adapting to Canadian society, especially as it is a very unique and weird country to adapt to.
    PS your Canadian girl accent killed me, it was so spot on.

    Hi Feyi. Thanks for always giving us insights on migrating to Canada.
    I'm totally committed to moving to Canada. I completed my ECA in March, wifey put in for ECA too but due to the pandemic and ASUU strike we are still on it. I have also tried IELTS and I would have to rewrite it because I had a 6.5 in reading .I plan on doing that by December. I've been preparing alongside wifey whose IELTS is on the 6th of Nov. So you know how committed I am, I'm also writing BCS by Nov to boost my crs score. It will really go a long way if I get to be 1 of the 8 lucky winners of the section 2 give away. This will relief me of the financial stress of having to pay for IELTS again.
    P.S - I'm determined to Ace IELTS this time. Thanks and God bless you and your sponsors

    There are millions out of work here. Canada does not accept University and college degrees from other countries you may have to spend years upgrading. Plus I know of sevel people with engineering degrees who degrees were never accepted and they had to do building maintenance for minimum wage. One had to drive taxi. Anther was a heart surgeon from India who had to perminantly work as a janitor in the hospitals here. PM Trudeau just wants to to come and bring money. Make sure you have a job here before you move and a way to get back if it does not workout.

    When you people say Canada humbles people it's quite funny. Nigeria has reduced us to nothing. Any Nigerian that still has a chip on his or her shoulder before leaving for a foreign country is just a ridiculous person. We literally have nothing and no opportunity here. Then you enter a place where you see the means to make things happen? Keep your nose down and make thing happen leave your pride at home

    Canada is for people who want to work hard to escape a poor living situation, it is not for people who have servants in Nigeria.
    My father came from Spain 70 years ago. He worked for peanuts when he got here but he moved up the ladder. Canada helped him and he helped build Canada. What are people from Nigeria going to do to help Canada?

    • @FeyiMac
      @FeyiMac  3 роки тому +2

      Poor people cannot afford the Canada immigration programs that are available (except the refugee route, and even that requires some money). It costs a lot of money in local currency to apply for the programs and the proof of funds required for the application in unattainable for them.
      People who have servants in Nigeria are not necessarily wealthy. Like I said, labour is very cheap. Minimum wage is less than $100 a month. According to Canada's Minister of Immigration, Marco Mendicino, skilled immigrants are needed for labour shortages and to boost the Canadian economy. The immigration programs available target highly skilled and highly educated immigrants and that is what Nigerians are bringing to the job market, along with Entrepreneurship.
      Many are leaving decent paying and sometimes, very good jobs to come start afresh in Canada for peanuts, while hustling to go up the ladder, just like your father did 70 years ago. It's the price we pay to live in a sane and safe country.

      Canada rolls out the red carpet for the wealthy - we love those who have looted their own countries to bring their ill-gotten gains here (thank you, Brian Mulroney) - that's what some of them are doing to "help Canada". Now, forget your hard-working father - what are you going to do to help Canada - besides go onto the internet and try to put-down immigrants?
