Where I'm at I can either have 8 mbps for about 60$ which is absolute garbage and barely usable with anyone else on the connection or I could pay some other bullshit company 150$ for 100 mbps. The second company I mentioned got bought recently by a much bigger competitor that wasn't in my region though so hopefully the hurry the fuck up and change those pricings. Click read more for explanation of what they mean in the video about the 500$ a month.
So going back to the point of the video. Until a few years ago, the BS ISP I mentioned above had data caps, for every GB you went over the 30GB cap(unlimited from midnight to 8am) they would charge you 10$, that racks up VERY quickly which is what they mean by paying 500$ a month for crappy internet.

Lived my 68 years in Canada. Married, raised a family and retired in Edmonton. I never considered car insurance, housing costs, health care waits or high tax rates as reasons to leave Canada. I sometimes feel the discomfort of our cold winters, but I also realize I don’t face the peril of volcanos, tsunamis, earthquakes, tornados and floods (seldom). Our neighbourhood is diverse, welcoming and safe. I welcome those who wish to come to Canada. Btw- our public health care system saved my life from a cardiac arrest 5 years ago. Not bad, eh?

@@Stephen__White our internet and cell phones are notorious for being high priced globally.

Traditionally it's been high priced with mediocre speeds and data caps.
Previously you had about 3 choices in the gta. Bell, robbers or teksavvy. You could save a bit with teksavvy.
The landscape has changed a lot these days. But even now youre still looking at $85 cad/month from bell for 50down 10 up. That's not that cheap for that kind of mediocre service. • @Daev777
      @Daev777 4 роки тому +7

I was just about to reply and say the same thing. Completely uneducated and misleading information to Canada's current telecom. I live in a rural population, within Southern Ontario we were wired up with 'Fiber to the Premise' approximately 5 years ago. They are now laying another fiber line to provide us with a secondary backup link should the first fail for any reason (which it hasn't thus far). They are also laying additional fiber down the other side of the street and connecting many more households. Granted in this situation, this a town of roughly 1900 people. In greater sized population centres, they have delayed laying fiber because the cost per mile is far greater, especially when in comes to what they call "the last mile". Which is why the rural towns are starting to see superior internet access in the last 5-10 years, making the information you presented very out of date and inaccurate. It the most remote regions of Canada, what the author of this video claims temporarily remains true. However even that is about to quickly disappear given that Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Systems like Starlink (funded by Elon Musk), will quickly change that situation within the next 6-12 Months. In fact in most places, like even in the US the biggest obstacle to living in remote regions becomes:
      1. Access to goods and services
      2. Fertile/Workable land to grow food or build a home
      3. Access to electricity and a safe water supply
Let's dispel this myth that Canadians are still some backward civilisation living in igloos and start promoting accurate information, such as leading amongst the top of the world in many other areas. (Sorry to the OP, most of this is directed at the author of this video)

Not a highly intellectual treatment of this country. One of the major limiting factors in the high taxation rate. (Do you really believe socialized medicine is free?)
To understand the cultural differences more fully, examine Canada's history.
The nuances in culture can be limiting, but the almost national resentment and paranoia (re: the country immediately to the South) should be considered lest you alienate your neighbors.
Generally, all cultures and countries have strengths and weaknesses, but having lived in both countries, I would tend to disregard much of what this superficial treatment of a great country has to offer. If we were to discuss weaknesses, this presentation is quite weak in substance.

@Der Schwindel meh its been over 2 years ago when China cut back on the outflow of cash leaving. there are always some great examples of stupid money from new rich mainlanders but its far from the norm. There is far more money being actually laundered from illegal drug trafficking. They were just paying friends to walk into casinos and lose money for a few hours and cash back out clean money. How dumb is that. The rest of prices is just actual locals expecting the prices to go up so it does. FOMO always keeping the party going with more buyers than sellers driving prices up, multiple offers and bidding wars. Then the super low interest rates. Easy to see that people tend to pay the same % of family income (its actually crept up very slowly) but with every small decrease in rate over a 25 or 30% loan a family can afford far more. But its over for a long time now with Covid. There isnt going to be a crash i doubt as the government will do everything and more to prevent it but we'll have deflation then inflation and those rates going up even without wiping many out, best case just kill price appreciation.

Insurance in Quebec is cheaper because of the social platting system, we pay 300$ a year for plates because all drivers get basic responsibility insurance and if you own a speed bike you are paying over 1K a year for plates besides the gas prices. Our medical system isnt great, they told my buddy his pace-maker was failing for 2 years and kept him on the waiting list for surgery, luckily because it turned out they were checking it with the wrong equipment and turned out it was fine. I waited 2 years for a sleep apnea diagnosis. Fast internet isnt too bad but cell phone plans are HORRIBLE and the big 3 in Canada fought to keep Verizon out to keep prices high. Just to get into Canada to visite is a pain, Joey Diaz which is a famous comedian/actor cant pass the border because he has a criminal record besides the Canadian Govt trying to stop artists like Eminem at the airport. good video pretty accurate. WHAT? Up to 37% tax rate in the US? This, from the country where it's people LOVES to bash my country (Norway) for high taxes??? Basic tax in Norway is 27% (increased rate for income that goes over specific treshholds, but then only for the exceeding amount), and we have LOTS of deductables to lower it. And for that, we get universal health care, no tuition for public schools, shitloads of support systems for unemployed / disabled / pregnant women / parents / sick people / etc, etc, etc. And I've even heard americans claiming paid vacation is a myth - well, we have 5 weeks + some holidays.
Average health insurance in the US is currently $7,470 for an individual, which ALONE is more than I pay in taxes, after deductables. And for that, what do you get, compared to Norway? MAYBE a little shorter queues, I'm not even sure about that.

This morning I woke up to report on the new saying that thousands of migrants were trying to file a petition to ask asylum in Canada. My question for you in your opinion what are the odds of these people being let in to Canada ? There are already illegally in Mexico, do they even qualify to file a Asylum petition? From my understanding in order for you to do this you have to do it from your country of origin.

So don't pretend these are traige issues. I couldn't even get my damn cholesteral checked becaseu I had no family doctor, the clinic wouldn't do it because if something was wrong they'd have to take me as a patient and they don't take permanent patients. Outpatients and ER won't do it. FINALLY a nurse practitioner moved into our rural area.
In ontario they have clinics that take patients. For two decades I had no real 'doctor', I had a 'clinic'. You went in that morning and waited in line, sometimes three hours but you could leave and come back. Here there is no such service, clinics are hours doctors can spare, usually just a couple hours a day.
So definitely not doing GOOD when it comes to healthcare. MOST people I know who are ADMITTED usually say the care is very good. But thats only half the issue.

7.8% unemployment rate? Yes, in March, when the pandemic started, why would you give that number?!? . The unemployment rate had been 5.5-5.6% for a while now. Before you say that it’s higher than the US, it’s not, we calculate differently.
Competitive labour market for high paying jobs? Where? Companies had to run after good candidates, they couldn’t get those jobs filled, we’re talking about jobs with 90k starting salaries, I have tons of examples. We were at full employment in most provinces. Of course, if you compare to provinces in the Maritimes, then maybe, but for most of Canada, meaning 80%+ of it, people weren’t struggling finding good jobs. Are you listening to ppl in Alberta in the oil sector maybe? Yes, it wasn’t like it used to be in Alberta, the oil industry isn’t stable and they were lucky to have such high salaries for the kind of jobs they occupy, barely pay taxes, etc. Anyways, that all changed now probably with Covid.
As for healthcare. I agree that it’s far from perfect and the wait times can be long, but the way it is said is exaggerated. If you have a minor emergency, like you have a bladder infection, you get an appointment at a clinic on the same day, if you go to a hospital for a minor problem, you will wait. That is the problem, ppl go to the ER for minor conditions and wonder why they wait this long. We have family doctors for a reason, the ER should always and only be for emergencies, not for the flu. Some ppl are the ones filling up the ER when they have no reasons to be there in the first time. As for minor surgeries, yes, you are right, the waiting times can be long, but here again, those are for non urgent surgeries.
I would probably explore other systems before ours, it’s far from perfect, but not as bad as what you make it seem. I know for a fact, I have had 3 non urgent surgeries, lots of members of my family have also.

Just to emphasize the distance thing. If you start driving from, say, Budapest, you can visit friends in Bratislava, Vienna, and drive on to Salzburg, spending a few hours on the road, but you've been to 4 countries. You can live in Toronto, Ontario, start driving, and 4 hours later, you're STILL in Ontario, and haven't gone very far. In fact, it's taken you 2 hours alone just to get OUT of Toronto. And since gas is in litres, and it's roughly 4 litres to a gallon, and our gas is provincially taxed, then federally taxed, then when you pay, you're taxed AGAIN on the taxes, it's more cost-effective to stay home and Facetime whoever you were going to visit. Right now, we pay about $1.40/litre. Times four, that's about $5.60 a gallon. In Newfoundland, it's a LOT more expensive. But then, health care is free.

Vancouver Island, on the other hand, has hardly any wait times from what I've heard. The earning more is probably mostly just because Canada does not have a Southeastern US - if you factor out the former Confederate States, US and Canada are probably pretty comparable. 1:11 but then they had to pay it all back, with the cost of living going up everywhere, gas prices spiking, and the measly minimum wage at least in Manitoba (which will be the lowest in Canada). I don't recommend it myself

Solution to all these problems: don’t move to Toronto area, Montreal and Vancouver
There is way more too Canada and all those problems are greatly exaggerated
Unemployment is only high in those big cities
Just saying this guys probably not the most educated on the subject
If you are looking to move to Canada go to an actual reliable source

Hard disagree! I was living several years in Edmonton Alberta (one of the WORST places in Canada, I have nothing positive to say about that city) and working in the oil patch. The recession hit me hard, and finding stable work was borderline impossible. I was hired "full time" but work was not guaranteed, and I was paid hourly. So I was working 12 hour days 24 days on, 4 days off for 4 months and then working 0~2 weeks per month. The job market is brutally competitive. It's a suck it up and perform or get fired and replaced without notice workplace. Rent is expensive for crappy appartements infested with mice and cockroaches. The housing market is surprisingly high for flimsy wooden houses built in the middle of nowhere. I moved to Paris recently and my life turned around for the better. I finally have a stable job. I'm not worried about rent, food or pests anymore. The French healthcare system is tied for best in the world. Seriously, Canada has lost all of its appeal to me. As a Canadian citizen, I'm leaving Canada for France with a huge grin on my face.

@@jasonwright9405 Duude! FRANCE is chill. I'm working there and it's amateur hour 7/7. The climate is nice. The people are kinda lazy but work long hours. Everything is a disorganized mess. But I'm getting used to it. I even secured a career in a quaint little excavation company.

@Siddharth Dwivedi You underestimate manual jobs! Highly skilled tradespeople work outside but that doesn't mean they're doing grunt work. It's sad that people are conditioned in school to do office work, when the demand is arguably highest for "manual" jobs in construction (some of which don't involve any labor, you just have to be in the field to report things and coordinate people). In Canada, many people live in smaller towns to work in factories, refineries, oil field projects etc... Overall, I think that people in North America live in large cities because they don't know better, and the opportunities aren't spoken of in the country. It's a weird situation.

Canada is huge, & cities are far & few between. Most Canadians live in city/suburbs, most of the country is empty, it's time consuming and expensive to visit other parts of the country. Europe is easy to travel from one place to another.
