The second song "Living Loving Maid" was written about a famous groupie that hung out with the band in the early days, and dated Jimmy Page for a bit as well. Definitely an interesting story to read more about, I believe she was one of the types of groupies in the day that would hang around all the bands and try to worm her way into their lives, except Zeppelin got tired of her and this song was the result lol
Funny thing is Jimmy Page wrote the lyrics....and hated the song because of who it was about. He also hated the fact that people thought both songs were meant to be played back to back. Page said it was just a coincidence based on how the tracks were arranged on the album, with Heartbreaker ending abruptly and Livin Lovin Maid starting almost immediately after. They were never intended to be played that way.

I heard Jimmy once say he has never played living loving maid live because after recording it grew to hate the message in it. But thanks again for playing the songs together, that's how us fans know them
These songs are always played back to back on the radio. Heartbreakers riff and solo are considered among the best ever. One of if not the first time a guitar solo had no backing music on a rock album. At least this type of rock music. Blew people away.
Brad all I can say is learn to take in the music more. You focus so much on lyrics and deeper meaning then they really have that you miss the pallet and the mosaic that this incredible band puts together and their musical abilities.
That’s the problem with a lot of reactors. They just focus on the lyrics and after the song is over, they give us this long analysis on the meaning and some of them go on a preaching monologue. Most of them don’t even comment on the actual music so you have no idea if they actually liked the song. At least Brad doesn’t do the preaching thing, which I can appreciate.

The Heartbreaker riff is the ultimate rock guitar hook IMO. Jimmy Page is the all-time grandmaster of coming up with them. The solo was hugely influential because it was one of the first times a rock guitarist really went all-out. The band grew to hate the second song Living Loving Maid because it was supposedly written about a female hanger-on or groupie who was always around jabbering, irritating the band; I guess they felt sorry for publicly mocking her as they matured.

Brad when it comes to listening to Zep, lyrics are secondary to the music, one will get the most out of their music if they separate the four members and listen to them individually and how they blend together with each other. Each are masters of their instruments and when combined they are legends.
Yeah, with so many of these songs from the old days, I'm just discovering some of the lyrics 50 years later while watching reaction videos. Some lyrics in songs really stand out obviously, but with a lot of the music it's just an overall listening experience. For me personally, I'm very guitar-centric when listening to rock songs, but obviously all the other instruments including the voice are necessary for the songs to be great.
Lex, you must have somehow been around in the '70s... Once again, you nailed it when you said a guitar lesson indeed. Mega props for playing both songs back to back. A lot of classic rock albums had songs that were meant to be listened to like that. As for these songs, I literally grew up on this album. My dad and I probably listened to it hundreds of times on road trips due to no decent rock stations in our area.
Paired-up songs were a thing back in the day, like ZZ Top's Jesus Just Left Chicago / Waitin for the Bus. And bonus Brad, you can clearly hear what ZZ is singing about. 😃
Oh my God the memories of the '70's with Zeppelin rocking my life. I saw them live many times and they were just amazing. Sadly, this recording now sounds quite dated but you can't kill those memories. I know Brad's not really into guitar music but Jimmy Page was (and still is) a genius and Robert Plant with his lead vocals had a voice like no other. The late John Bonham on drums absolutely killing it as usual.
Hey Lex. I love how music is in your soul. You always find a way to find the spirit of the song.. and you have to carry the weight for Brad LOL some people don't have that in your soul. Plus you're a beautiful soul
Heartbreaker /livin lovin Maid was the first Zeppelin song I listened to at the age of 8-years old back in 1970 and never stopped listening to them to this day..."Greatest Rock Band in History"...hands down..
In the Led Zeppelin catalog, there are several songs that are meant to be played back-to-back. On this album you have this pairing, and on LZ III there is the pairing of Friends/Celebration Day. Remember that Led Zeppelin is from the era of Pink Floyd, and many bands experimented with songs that connected either lyrically or musically. I have always thought that these two songs are mainly connected musically and didn't think of the second being a continuation of the same theme, story, or person as the subject of the first one (although as Brad points out, most of Led Zeppelin's lyrics are about woman troubles). I had never thought much about he lyrics of Living Loving Maid, but according to Lyrics Genius, Lex is on the nose. Reading through the lyrics it seems like the "Living Loving Maid" may be a divorcee who is collecting alimony (so perhaps she is the same woman from Heartbreaker earlier) and she may also be supplementing her income through prostitution, a notion reinforced by the lyric in the second verse that says, "when your conscience hits you, knock it back with pills." I've always been a fan of Led Zeppelin, but I've never done a deep dive of the origins of their songs; I'm sure there are many of your viewers that may have a deeper insight than mine.
I've just had a session of checking out your reactions to LZ and it's given me a whole new love of them. Together you guys vibe so well and feed off each other, Lex so so quickly gets the feel of songs and where they sit in our collective consciousness, and Brad's the straight guy (like that other Brad in Rocky Horror), such a rock. Thank you so much guys for reigniting my love of some great music. And it's so nice to experience your progression as you listen to LZ, I wonder if there's another band or artist with enough range for you to do this with?
Living, loving maid is probably the best Led Zeppelin hors d’oeuvre you could ever hear young kids probably can relate to the back beat of it because of John drumming and heavy bass line accented with Jimmy’s guitar playing
Thank you guys for doing this combo! Living Loving Maid is so underrated IMO and one of my favorite Zeppelin songs, despite the band supposedly hating it. I believe it was written about an older groupie who followed the band around. Always makes me want to dance so I get feeling weird just sitting on the couch!
Yeah, I thought he was going to do it after the second verse in that silent moment right before the instrumental began. I didn't think he would do it right during the solo.

@@swartwoodart2558First of all, what does Page playing sloppy have to do with anything? Literally changes nothing, completely unrelated observation.
Regardless, take it from the horse's mouth: ua-cam.com/video/3CwDKqfMX3o/v-deo.html
@@swartwoodart2558 He did actually say that, you can look it up. I read that his favorite guitarist and a huge influence on him was Allan Holdsworth though.
@@brettkenschaft4239 Yeah Holdsworth and Clapton too. Not saying page didn't influence him, but to influence the tapping technique? never heard page tap much of anything, and he did say the italian classical guy ( I forget his name) pretty much pioneered it, and that he saw Hackett doing it at a genesis show. I can totally see Page influencing his rhythm playing, but tapping? But hey, I may be wrong.
Mega props for playing both songs back to back. A lot of classic rock albums had songs that were meant to be listened to like that. As for these songs, I literally grew up on this album. My dad and I probably listened to it hundreds of times on road trips due to no decent rock stations in our area.
The ying and yang between you two is how you make this work!
It treuw! LOL!
there's no "g" in "Yin"
@@Annonymous0283745 pay attention!
Paired-up songs were a thing back in the day, like ZZ Top's Jesus Just Left Chicago / Waitin for the Bus. And bonus Brad, you can clearly hear what ZZ is singing about. 😃
Tres Hombres album....love it!
Another good one is “The Load Out/Stay “ by Jackson Browne. Check it out
Also the songs: Bringing on the Heartbreak & Switch 262 by Def Lepard. Long Distance Runaround & the Fish by Yes.
I think it rocks hard enough to overcome any dated feeling it may have. Just undeniable energy and catchiness regardless of era.
Finally, reacting to these gems together is the only way! Rare.
🔥🔥🔥
Serious bass by jpj
Bass vocals drums and jimmy's guitar all working together so well perfect example why zeppelin could not continue without john bonham.
Thanks for playing both tracks, it's kinda a tradition.
🎶LED ZEPPELIN ~ FOOL IN THE RAIN🎶
Lex's quote of the day, "They were definitely doin some substances".
"i dont know what the songs about, you just vibe to it" ... yes Lex
Hey Lex. I love how music is in your soul. You always find a way to find the spirit of the song.. and you have to carry the weight for Brad LOL some people don't have that in your soul. Plus you're a beautiful soul
Led Zeppelin II was one of my first albums in the mid 70's
Heartbreaker /livin lovin Maid was the first Zeppelin song I listened to at the age of 8-years old back in 1970 and never stopped listening to them to this day..."Greatest Rock Band in History"...hands down..
You need to to listen to a live version of this gem. Jimmy's solo is next level.
Yes, many pairs of songs from back in the day, like ZZ Top Waiting for the Bus/Jesus just Left Chicago.
Indeed!!
black mountain side/communication breakdown
this pairing is unintentional. these songs had no initial connection except for being side by side on the record.
@@kathybwell Journey has at least 2. Feeling That Way/Anytime and Lovin Touchin Squeezin/City of the Angels.
Every guy that ever picked up a guitar hopes there are Lexi's out there listening.
She knows and moves like she does.
Man, you two couldn't be any more different!!! Brad like, stick in the mud, Lex like free spirit. One lucky dude!!!
As you get older realized how influential and dope Led Zeppelin was….
Top 10 band of all time imo
I’m proud of you too for playing the songs back to back the way they are meant to be heard. The way they were heard back on FM radio back in the day
That's still the only way you'll hear them on the radio
Sees Brad reaching for the pause button.
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Do not touch that button!
I remember listening to this on vinyl with all the pops and scratches. I really love listening to John Bonham driving the beat.
You had to be there. Time and space were different. You two are great
Can't go wrong with Zeppelin
You guys should react to…
Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
🎸🤘
Absolutely 100 agree. I think studio is better for first listen to get the song "as is".
And also The Song Remains The Same/The Rain Song (live MSG 1973)

They also need to listen to sick again
One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. This was the first album I bought for myself.
Awesome reaction. Lex nailed it.
All 4 members were doing their thing on this one
How can you not love Led Zep? ❤️
Brad: Was she a maid. . . ?
😂That really got me. But hey, I listened to this song for years never really knowing what it was about.
Thank you for playing both songs together. they flow into each other. i love livin loving alot.
Love zeppelin, and thanks for playing these 2 together.
,”Alimony, alimony, paying YOUR bills” 😂. That should give you a clue as to the meaning of the “second” song.
As usual Lex gets it,,,,, it's the vibe & attitude & riff ....
Have you reacted to "When the Levee Breaks"? If not, it's a must...
Lord have Mercy be careful where you pause ⏸ Bradddd… Glad u listened to them together ITS A MUST!!! ✌🏻☀️
He's got no passion for music.
Yeah, I thought he was going to do it after the second verse in that silent moment right before the instrumental began. I didn't think he would do it right during the solo.
My alltime favorite Led Zeppelin combo songs!!
I'm a younger generation fan at 38 years old-
I didn't remember the title of your video and DID not think the both of you would cover both of the _seriously _*_conjoined songs_* . They're seriously great. lol.
Wife here..Of coarse ...,off the chain base in this song!!!..Heavy and powerful!!!.."Alot going on in this song" Absolutely..So well stated Lex.."The Living Loving Maid"...IDK..Not thinking ...perceiving a chill vibe..So on point you guys!!..Both riffs are Awesome..Yessss!!
You should do "Heartbreaker Hotel" by DREAD ZEPPELIN, it's Led Zeppelin's music for Heartbreaker, with the lyrics of Elvis Presley's "Heart brake hotel", the video features the Fat Elvis impersonator, with the jumpsuit, so funny
...I think B&L should personally invite Plant & Page & JPJones on their reaction channel so that they may explain the meaning in their songs. Go for it B&L !!!
Lex! - as others have been saying, Lex totally has the best reactions on UA-cam, hands down. Totally gets it - always…. Now Brad - Brad needs to start having a joint or two for this type of endeavor. Do that and no worries… all will be revealed.
I see what you did there, Mr. Kash!
I just love them...they are magnificent!
The battle of evermore is my favourite Zepplin song. Like to see you folks do that song
