Question of the week: what are your 2024 knitting intentions?
I've been a silent scroller for so long, and I've only recently started interacting more with the people that I follow. It's been surprisingly nice! It doesn't take much effort, and I always try to say something that will make someone's day better!
I agree! It is very nice to reach out and foster more relationships. As a creator, it also makes my day when people leave thoughtful comments!
I love that you talked about being a silent scroller. It made me realize that I am also one and that’s what’s probably making me feel like I’m not really in the knitting community. I think I will definitely try to be more engaging in the media that I consume. Also I think polls are a great way to get more people to engage since it won’t make people feel so singled out when giving their opinions on things. Great video btw!
I’m glad that the silent scroller resonated! I agree that it makes you feel like an outsider glancing into a community if there isn’t that engagement- which takes a lot of intention! What a coincidence! Just today I made the intention to only knit from my stash and my pattern library. Like you I’ve purchased some really lovely patterns and so many beautiful yarns this past year that I want to give some love and attention to them instead of being constantly distracted by the new and shiny. Here’s to our intentions!

Hi Sarah! I am excited I stumbled upon your channel today. I started knitting back in 2020 as a means to keep my hands busy while I was in virtual meetings and teaching virtually. I really appreciate your calm vibe and open-ness about your goals. I too am realizing I am a "silent scroller" and would like to engage in community more, so here we are! I have been thinking about starting my own UA-cam channel to talk about knitting and other things I love such as yoga and nature. If you have any advice or words of wisdom, I am here for it all. Hi Stephanie! Welcome to my channel! I’m glad you ended up here ☺️. I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed my video. My biggest suggestion to starting your channel is to just start filming! You can use your phone and iMovie or another free editing app to film and edit so you already have the equipment you need to start out. It can be scary to start out but the biggest barrier for me to start filming and posting was anxiety about the first video so if you can get past that, you’ll set yourself up well to keep going 💓 happy crafting!
Trying new fibers is my greatest joy! It can be initially challenging on the needles and on your hands - especially if you’ve been spoiled by merino… but once you get the feel for a new fiber, it can be such a joy!
PS Your framed embroidery is delightful - I love how it isn’t overly styled and has raw edges.
I’m excited to do more of it this year! I’ve loved the fibers I have explored. What are your non-merino favorites? And thank you so much! They’re all free cross stitch patterns from DMC if you are interested in recreating them 😊
I found you because I enjoy watching knitting inspiration videos. My favorite part of the creating process is planning it out. If you enjoy producing that type of content, Id love to see more of those in 2024!

I have a few different goals for 2024, but I think what excites me the most is that this is the first year I've actually made knitting and crochet new year goals for myself. It feels refreshing to know I already went through the tough part of narrowing down all of the things I want to achieve and now I just gotta do them which is the most fun part :)

@@sarahs.handmakes it really is! for the past ~6 months in MN we went through the process of getting a new state flag and there were a bunch of very good flag submissions, I'm suuuper excited to crochet one of them as a blanket to submit for competition at the MN State Fair this year 🥰

After your first intention of getting to know more fiber I said to myself, shes going to start spinning! Then came intention #5.😂 Ive had many of these intentions over the course of my 30 years of knitting, spinning, weaving, and dyeing. The beauty of fiberb is that there is always something to learn and improve on. Be kind to yourself and have fun! Sounds like a great year ahead.😊
Spinning is definitely a great way to learn about more fibers! And the fact that there’s always something else to learn is one of my favorite things about knitting 😊 30 years is really impressive!

Hi Sarah, great video! I have many similar goals, especially knitting from my “pattern stash” of all the beautiful patterns I already own. It’s so easy to get distracted by the new hot thing but those patterns are in my library for a reason. And, on the community front, I will say I had my own knitting goals (as well as 2023 reflections) on my own channel recently if that’s of any interest to you (but ofc no hard feelings if not!)

I too am thinking about knitting and crocheting a little less this year…I don’t want to stress about my hobby and maybe focus on creating more of a balance between crafting and getting outside more(like you mentioned) 😊

Thank you so much for your videos and ideas. I am a silent consumer too and you got me thinking to write more comments to engage more with all the crafters i love watching. My plans for this year also includes knitting socks from my stash yarn as i have so many sock yarns 😅 i hope that for this year i can knit more than last year. I had an inflammation in my wrist and couldnt really knit for the autumn/winter time. I am still affected by it and cant knit a lot and for longer stretches. So with me hoping i can knit more than last year combines the wish that hopefully my injury doesnt affect me for much longer.

I’m also trying to get through some yarn stash this year-largely by knitting a pair of socks a month! I like to always have socks on the needles because they’re easier to take to my work than a sweater or blanket.
That’s a great intention! I’m glad to have a sock a month buddy to work through yarn stashes with 😊 I love them too for their portability! And they’re usually a lot more mindless
I would like to be your knittingfriend😊❤. I love your esstetics. My intentions is to knit more of my dreamknits and not knit because everybody else knits that sweater so not going on the trend boat
