This song just emotionally destroys me every time I hear it. I was about 12-13 when his son died and it was when I first really understood that sometimes kids die too. As a kid, that’s a heavy realization. Now as a parent- it’s that fear that lives in you the moment you know you are becoming a parent.
FACTS Sir or Ma'am! And even into adulthood, one still worries over their child(ren) whom are now depending on themselves and others for comfort and safety etc. My only child is 24. When she and friends go out of state for spring break; to a concert or the ilk, I am gently sobbing to myself in prayer for their safe arrival and return! It *never* ends. [Edited to inc. This is the sweetest and saddest song! I have lost 2 of my children in a 10 year span. The pain never goes away. You can see the pain in his face as he sings this.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻He wrote this for his 4 year old son. He fell out of a window from a high floor of the residence.
Good God! To lose two children is unimaginable! God bless you and you family. I’m a believer and I know that you will be reunited with your children one day.
I remember reading an article about this as a kid around the time the video came out, it's over 30 years later and I still feel it in my core every time I hear it
His 4-year-old son, Connor, fell to his death from a 53rd story window. This was EC's way of coping with that horrible, tragic loss. Still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Conor accidentally fell to his death from the 53rd-floor residence through a window that had been inadvertently left open following janitorial work in the apartment. Clapton was staying in a hotel nearby and was preparing to pick up Conor for a planned father-son lunch and visit to the Central Park Zoo. Conor was his son!
Great Song In 1991, following the death of his son, Conor, Eric Clapton collaborated with songwriter Will Jennings to write "Tears in Heaven." The song is a memorial to Conor, who at four years old, fell 50 stories to his death from a New York City apartment building
This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. It's one of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard and I don't think it will ever lose any of the heart-wrenching emotion. I think the thing that is stuck out to me the most over the years is the fact of this Eric Clapton. He is one of the greatest guitarist ever, but he does not show off his skills at all. That's not what this song is. The song is about his pain and reconciling with it. Everything instrumentally in the song does exactly as it should, and nothing more. The important part of the song It's a tribute to his son, and he knew it. But it's more than that. Everyone has lost someone and he made the song universal by not specifically saying it's his son in the song. Everyone has lost someone that we feel this way about. Great job as always on covering it. Also check out the album release.
We are not supposed to lose our children, that was the hardest thing I ever went through. It took me many years to get past it and my heart goes out to you in prayer that you find your way.
Yes! You are in my brain! I have commented a few times on different reactions about that very fact (most recently, Rich Girl). I love going to, and watching live performances, but it's a hit or miss if they quality is going to match the studio version. Sometimes they're better (almost magical)...but rarely. And an artist 65 or 70 years old performing a song that was a hit when they were 25 or 30 is NOT going to sound the same. Vocal cords age just like the rest of our bodies. Hitting those high notes or holding out notes just isn't possible. I'm impressed when MrLBoyd sees through the issues I have with it and likes it. I always hope he listens to the studio version afterwards to get the full feeling.
@@lillianbuckingham4529 he has said that he goes back and watches the studio versions after reacting which is cool at least. The singing in this version is so flat :(

Yes he does seem to pick some very bad live versions. Maybe Eric’s voice wasn’t up to it that night. I also wonder if it is cathartic or damaging to sing it over and over
Saddest song in rock history. It's about the death of his son who fell from the 53rd story window and landed on the roof of another building 49 floors later. Eric was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and stayed clean and sober through the aftermath. That to me is a very strong man.
In the same vein of this song is "The Father, My Son, The Holy Ghost" by Craig Morgan. Both are about fathers losing their sons too young and being memorialized in music.
I've been listening to Clapton and the bands he's been in since 1964. He is, and always will be, one of the legends in music. A bit of trivia.... when he was with Cream he almost refused to sing, but relented. So very glad that he did.

My parents lost two of their children before they past. My brother was five when he passed. My sister was 45 when she died. Watching my Dad say goodbye to her was the hardest but most beautiful moment of my life.. When my dad did pass I find a letter that he wrote to his boss when his son passed, it was the most gut wrenching letter I had ever read. But now they are all together in heaven. RIP Conner,.
Paused 10 seconds into the video for this prediction. You are going to love this song, it is amazing, and the sadness behind it is, unfortunately, so very real. This song is truly from a broken heart.
You should listen to the original version of this song. Its even more heart rending. Its about his son who fell out a hotel window 50 stories, at age 4 I believe. Eric wasn't there at the time and his son was being watched by a nanny I think. So tragic.

Eric Clapton wrote this song about his 4 year old son Conor who died when he fell from the 53rd floor window of an apartment building in New York City. The song was co-written with Will Jennings and recorded in 1991 then Eric Clapton performed it live in front of an audience in 1992. It won 3 Grammy Awards "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance", "Song Of The Year" and "Record Of The Year". When you know the story behind the song it makes it even more emotional and heartbreaking, I always get misty eyed when I hear it. Losing anybody close to you is heartbreaking but when it involves a child and especially such a horrific death it can be unbearable.
I'd never heard this rendition before, it is heartbreakingly different than his first performance of it on MTV unplugged. Cuts right to the heart. I lost my daughter 8 years ago, she was 32. Even so, I can't imagine losing a child as a toddler.
This song came out seven years after my son died he was 15-month-old at the time. This song tears me up every time I hear it. The pain I feel for his loss is unreal.
Eric Clapton lost his 4 year old son, the child fell out of the 53rd window in a hotel that is mother and him were living in I think in New York maybe in Chicago, he had a hotel across the street from him so he was going to go pick Connor up and take him to the zoo and have a good time. This song broke my heart when I first heard it as a young teen, especially knowing it was about his 4-year-old son who died so tragically, but it breaks me even more now that I have my own kids to think how shattered I would be if I lost one of them.
This song was recorded for MTV's Unplugged a few weeks before my dad died when I was ten. It's a beautiful son, and gut wrenching, and I've not been able to listen to it without crying, including this time. Haunting was a proper adjective for it. Thanks for putting this out there; it's somewhat cathartic, even if painful.

His little boy fell out of a window x amount of stories high and passed away while they were playing. Clapton is one of the greatest guitar players to walk our earth. This tragedy he endured, changed everything obviously. His music style, his emotions everything went sporadic in genre. Watch BB King and Clapton on the guitar and you'll see how they laid the foundation of the guitar

His son died after falling out of the apartment Window many years ago. He wrote the song in tribute to his son who is in heaven and he believes his son is hearing him. Or at least hoping so. He lost his four year old son in a tragic accident. He fell out of a hotel window where he was with his mother. The child was young and Eric was worried that his son wouldn’t remember him when he eventually passes and they meet up again in heaven! This song touches me every time I hear it!
Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton are number one and two on the all-time best guitarists list for Rolling Stone magazine Eric Clapton was part of the British Invasion for The Yardbirds then started cream he was also in Derek and the Dominos and Blind Faith he did the lead guitar in the recording of the Beatles My Guitar Gently Weeps he has accomplished so much more as a solo artist
I've always loved this song, but when I met my wife and became a father (albeit stepfather, but I consider him mine) to my now 8 year old, I can't hear this song without breaking down at the thought of losing him, especially so young. I can't imagine how Eric felt. Incredjble tribute to his little boy.
I was 10 or 11 when Conor died. I'm 40 now and I still cry every time I hear it. My daughter is 20 and I'd be devastated to lose her now...poor man lost his son at 4.
This is sadder when you know the story. Clapton wrote the song from the point of view of his 4 year old son finding himself in Heaven after falling to his death. Amazing song.
Little known fact... R&B singer, Babyface, co-wrote and produced this devastatingly beautiful and moving masterpiece with Clapton. I think they performed it together live.
Such an emotional song. The sign of a great artist is to put in you in the place (mindset) of the artist to experience the song/art from the perspective of the artist. Eric Clapton does that so well in this song..... Great song.
the most sad part about this song is it became top charting hit.. people wanted to hear it when i played live.. asking for it all the time.. and i can see why most people would want to hear it, it is a great song after all.. but imagine having lost your child and constantly being asked to play a song about the most devastating event in your life.. people giving him a constant reminder that your child has dead.. he wrote a song to help himself out emotionally and yet it lead to him having to relive those memories over and over all again.. being as good as he is, obviously it became a hit.. but having a hit song about your emotions for your dead child.. well i highly doubt that is what he was going for.. it becoming such a huge hit i mean.. he didnt write the song in order to make a bunch of money.. so when you think about it.. it must feel even worse when you profit monetarily from such a tragedy since he didnt even need the money. i know poor people who would use this as an opportunity, but in his case.. i just feel sad for him.
Omg what not to listen too! 'Lady in Red' is amazing, Lola, is a wow. This man has the midis touch. He stopped writing and singing for a while in his life, then his son died and it motivated him to perform again but the second time around, he had a deeper more family aspect of his work. I believe he said in a magazine interview he knew his son was with him and became his inspiration of his music. So beautiful, so deep after his tragedy. He was great before but so much soul after.
Rip James K Irish this made me think of you man my brother from another mother and i can only imagine the hurt your mother feels everyday i miss you man if i could turn back time ...
His child passed away at around 4 years old due to a window being left unlocked and he fell to his death which is a devastating event for any parent and once he got over the initial blow he wrote this beautiful song
Eric Clapton lost his little toddle in a New York apartment block, when the toddle climbed to the edge of the balcony, and fell over from a great height, obviously Eric and his wife were devastated, he wrote this song after the event, so sad!, 😢, it’s a great track 👍
This is what I researched; "Tears in Heaven" is a song by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings, written about the death of Clapton's four-year-old son, Conor. ... The song was Clapton's best-selling single in the United States and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
All the other commenters have given you the context for the song. Eric is considered one of the greatest guitarist in the rock genre, if not the greatest. From the Yardbirds, to Cream, to Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, he helped shape rock music. Layla, Cocaine, Can't Find My Way Home, cover of I Shot the Sheriff. And with this song he opened his heart and blew us all away with this acoustic lullaby.
Clapton is probably one of if not my favorite musicians... That being said, as an angel daddy, this song breaks me. Please dig deeper into the Clapton discography. His album with BB King is incredible.
This is a song I do Karaoke all the time because it has such a broad relation to everyone, you can all think of someone you miss and wish you could see again
I watch this heartrending song and wonder... Would you like to feel like you are seeing to 80 year old people dancing together on their 60th anniversary? Eric Clapton does a song called Wonderful Tonight that is as beautiful as old love. Edit for the record: This is one of my cry songs. I listen when a need to feel, no amount of numbness can withstand the sheer intensity of these emotions. Eric Clapton took something terrible and full of hurt, and he shared that hurt in such a pure way, even my logic gets the feels. He lost a future that no amount of money or time can fix.
It's from when he lost his son and he got so hard for him to play this song that he will not even play it anymore in concert I can't imagine the feeling that he has had to go through from losing his child no parents should ever outlive their child brought lived our child and I can't tell you how I would feel if I lost mine
He was four or five, his name was Connor. The day before he died his father took him to the circus,The next day he was on his way to pick him up at the highrise to go out the maid opened the window to clean he ran out jumped through the window he thought he could be like the acrobats and fly.I remember all this because they had a picture of his dead body on adjacent roof in his pajamas. Broke my heart, his only son he has 3 girls. He is a wonderful artist.Rest easy Connor.
One of the most legendary guitarist in history, this song was about his son dying in an accident by falling out a window and he blamed himself. He has since retired the song and feels it's time to move on, but this song will always be iconic many people as one of his best songs ever. On a side note he actually played with a bunch of legendary blues, jazz, and rock artists during a PBS special honoring Stevie Ray Vaughan, another legend.
@@kjsfl386 he doesn't play at concerts anymore or by request so if you see him playing the song and any event there's a really special reason, also he thinks it served the purpose of healing him emotionally.
One of the saddest things ever. When an adult dies we might think, "Well he or she at least had a life...... gone too soon perhaps, but they had a life." But this just strikes most everyone as tragic.
Circus left town is a much touching song of eric clapton. Eric clapton wanted to put the last experience he had with his young son in the song, which was them going to the circus the night before and his son was excited about the clowns on the way home.
Love the video man, your content has just so much variety to it, so many genres of music, keep up the great work! Also the song is about his son who fell out of a window at very young age, so he wrote this and it became like his hugest hit but as you said it's very sad and beautiful at the same time. Btw, will we see some more weird Al soon? Word crimes would be great to see from you! Looking forward for future videos love you man.

One of the most amazing songs ever written.
I've always loved this song, but when I met my wife and became a father (albeit stepfather, but I consider him mine) to my now 8 year old, I can't hear this song without breaking down at the thought of losing him, especially so young. I can't imagine how Eric felt. Incredjble tribute to his little boy.
As a father of two, this song hits so hard now compared to when I was their age and I first heard it.
You should check out the mtv unplugged version of this song, and Layla.
I cry every time I hear this song.
This is a very sad song..Anyone who has lost a child knows this song..Once you find out...it will make sense
You’re my personal favorite reactor that i’ve just recently discovered. Keep grinding! You’re a Reaction Channel treasure.
Also, check out his song "Layla".
This is the saddest song I know. heartbreaking. It is about his 4 year old son, who fell out of the window 53th floor. Can't imagine the pain.
This is what I researched; "Tears in Heaven" is a song by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings, written about the death of Clapton's four-year-old son, Conor. ... The song was Clapton's best-selling single in the United States and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
One of the best guitarist. He did a Blues album cover that is really good. Layla and You look wonderful tonight
You need to listen to Lady in Red. Clapton is definitely one if the greats!
Just here to read 100 plus comments of people trying to be the first to tell him what the song is about
Song makes me weep every time I hear it.🙏
His son who just child may be like four years I remember when it happened was heartbreaking. Now it reminds me of my son..
One of my favorite songs by him. And Layla
It's from when he lost his son and he got so hard for him to play this song that he will not even play it anymore in concert I can't imagine the feeling that he has had to go through from losing his child no parents should ever outlive their child brought lived our child and I can't tell you how I would feel if I lost mine
Most of us will have known before hearing it, that it was about his young son that died. Made it so much worse knowing where that pain came from
This song is absolutely tragic and I can’t hear without getting at least a little teary eyed
@@kjsfl386 I just know in interviews he said he's retired the song going forward
@@michaelmorgan3910 Perhaps you’re right. I’m thinking his acoustic set was “Layla” not “Tears”. My bad. Thank you
One of the saddest things ever. When an adult dies we might think, "Well he or she at least had a life...... gone too soon perhaps, but they had a life." But this just strikes most everyone as tragic.
This song always gets me 😭
Circus left town is a much touching song of eric clapton.
This song is about his son who died in a tragic accident. Falling from a window on the 53rd floor.💔
Such a solid song. Rip
There are no tears in heaven. So wether our not they are together in heaven there is no matter.
My little brother committed suicide. My mother is a devout Christian. She fears she will not see him in heaven for what he has done but she doesn’t fret because she believes there are no tears in heaven....
This song tears me up when I hear it...
The original version is much better.
He didn't lose contact. The personal who died was his little boy and since he was a toddler, Clapton wondered if he'd remember him. So sad x
Eric Clapton wrote this simple and beautiful song for his son Conor.
This song changed for me the day my son was born.
My dad said it's about his 3 year old son. The boy fell from high rise window after it was left open by a cleaner. Dad said it destroyed him and the family. They were never ok again
Eric Clapton the only person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three different times once for The Yardbirds again for cream and then as a solo artist The Yardbirds morphed into Led Zeppelin you should react to Eric Clapton in cream the first Super band react to Sunshine of Your Love and white room among many others
My favourite version of this song is Eric Clapton’s Unplugged version
Yeah this is a great song and Eric Clapton is one of my favorite artists. The best version of this song is when he first song it and that was I believe Eric Clapton Unplugged live is the best to me but this version of the song is still good but I would recommend the whole Eric Clapton Unplugged album, it's just a great album. And from what I've heard he wrote this song for his child when they died at a young age.
I do not know how he can sing this song. I get all choked up just listening to it and thinking about how it must feel to lose your child.
His 3 yo son fell off a pent house balcony . This song was written to honor his son.
The song was written after his son died so it's a song to his infant son.i believe he was about 4 and fell out a window or off a balcony and died.
Eric is great
Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all-time. He was in a band called Cream when he was younger. I am actually shocked that you haven't heard his music, since you travel so much.
I would imagine the worst thing a parent can go through. Being the father of 2 boys who are my world would destroy me.
In a freak accident,Eric’s son Conor, four years old ran out a window from a high floor while it was being cleaned. He perished of course, and Eric was devastated. No one was blamed but it was too,too sad..😢
The most amazing cover if this song was sung by The Choir Boys. You should react to it. You will not be disappointed. ❤
That bass player knows his business...
SONGFACTS any song you react to
Love the reactions man. So many channels out here faking it just for views or just staring blankly the whole time with a thumbnail. You actually give a damn and speak what you’re thinking, keep it up! Also check out a song called sociopath by predestine it’d be much appreciated!
His poor baby son Conor fell out of their apartment building open window many stories when he was barely 3 yrs old. I will never forget this happening in the 90’s
