Yes. I remember when this song came out. It was like a dagger in the heart, and the thing is, no matter how much time passes, it’s not enough to even dull the pain much at all. Some pains of the heart just never ever heal.
The first stanza of the song "You would know my name...", using the verb tense, represents himself imagining himself in this fearful and hopeful hypothesis of being where his son would be now (in paradise). The chorus "I must be strong..." dispels the imaginary and returns to the raw reality that daydreaming is a mere illusion (he can never be in that place). And the bridge to the end "Then the doors close and there are no more tears in paradise" might suggest that he ended up literally dreaming of what he imagined and wanted so badly for a few seconds and somehow moved on, but didn't get over it, because the chorus returns at the end recalling the fact that he does not belong where his son would be (and because no trauma is overcome, only dealt with in a more or less healthy way). plaintive guitar arrangements; vocal tone that emits subjection and melancholy; compassionate sound effects; lyrics implying guilt, regret and remorse, one of the worst feelings, worse even than the hurt felt by someone who had hurt you -- at least for those who have morals, ethics, empathy, conscience, a functional limbic system and especially emotional and intelligence. he knows that one cannot and must not be one more in the (catastrophic) "chain of evil".
Such a sad song by Eric Clapton, he wrote it about the death of his four year old son, Conor. It was so tragic, in 1991, Conor died after falling from the 53rd floor window of a New York apartment, belonging to a friend of Conor's mother. After isolating himself for a time, Clapton began working again by writing music for the film Rush (1991) and he dealt with his grief by co-writing this song for the soundtrack with Will Jennings. It's such a beautiful song and when you know the story behind it, it just makes it that much more poignant. Thanks so much for your reaction, guys, take care now.❤

Clapton said he stopped feeling emotional about it and that's why he stopped performing it at all. He started it again around 2020 but the melody is noticeably less melancholy so I wonder if he still feels anything after playing it so much and his son was lost so long ago now

I had lost my 6 year old daughter not quite a year before I heard the news of Clapton's son. My heart went out to Eric Clapton and I remember crying about this tragedy for a few days as I was still feeling so much of my own pain. When this song came out it then again, released many tears yet much peace. A beautiful song.
When his son died, I was concerned Eric would relapse into addiction and end up dead himself. But like so many times before, he turned his pain into music.

Bless your heart...I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. My mom passed away suddenly at the age of 60, 16 yrs ago...she had always been the center of my world, and my world as I had always known it was no longer here....then I had to adapt to the new norm, not easy...then the new norm becomes the norm w/time. I felt perhaps something was wrong w/me about 5-yrs ago (she had been gone 11-yrs), because if someone was talking about for instance a vacation spot, and if I had taken mom there for one of her b-days, I would chime in about wherever it was of perhaps I had been and enjoyed it, then I'd add "and I took mom there for her b-day"...you could hear in my voice emotions building, and ppl could sense it in my voice, like someone is gonna cry...I'd usually switch gears somehow so the emotions would subside b4 tears...but at her gone 11 yrs and that was still surfacing, I thought maybe something unresolved...and one person said "well grief takes diff time w/diff ppl"...I was like no, I went through all the stages of grief, all that's done...but what I realized was stirring emotions in me in instances, there 11-yrs later, and even now, is I still care for my mom and hold her in my heart as much as I always did when she was here, that hasn't changed...it can still touch my heart, just as this song did George, so I realized 11 yrs ago, that's the way it should be, because when some things of reference to mom DOESN'T touch my heart anymore, I'll feel she's left me too far. Sorry long, but me writing this is maybe it will help you along the way, of what took me a while to figure out. But I'll get told "Oh, u laughed just like your mom", or told I "did something just like my mom."...those are my favorite things to hear, that always makes me so happy, although she's not physically here, I know she's with me in so many ways. Stages of grief takes time, and it's better when that's over and done, but hold tight to all the things you loved and cherished. God bless

Guys, I listened to your reaction again as this song has stayed with me the last couple of days. As always, you both pick up great detail about the artist and song. Eric did go through a major change in the late 80's as he struggled with a serious heroin and alcohol addiction for years and finally got sober one year after Connor was born. As many do, (and Patrick mentioned this) Eric turned to music for healing. The video is from the movie "Rush" - also about drugs. Thank you, thank you again for your heartfelt reactions!🧡🧡
I agree that if watching the video that could mislead a bit from Erics actual perspective , but when these artist write songs even about their own life, they still hope that it reaches us in a way we can relate to it from our own perspective allowing the narrative to fit our particular situation we may be tangled in. That's a true artist when they are capable of doing that for us and help pull us through our own situations and tough times. ❤
His little boy’s mom has told their story. It’s on UA-cam. I don’t remember the title though. I had just lost my own son 16, when this song came out. That was over 30 yrs ago. It moves me to tears even now.
At this moment I am thinking through tears of all the children who have died in wars since the beginning of wars > for whatever reason... no one who has suffered this loss will ever understand > why this tender young life was taken. You have a voice, say stop!
I hope you read this comment. There’s a young guy, a prodigy, who plays electric guitar. You wouldn’t believe the talent this kid has. His name is Miguel Montalban. Incredible ability playing electric guitar. You need to check him out. He plays covers to Dire Straits, Sultans of Swing, Led Zepplin, Stairway to Heaven … Patrick!… and many others. I know most reaction channels react to established, famous artists, but there are a few who do react to new , unknown, ( but not for long), up and coming talent. Even if you don’t devote some time on your channel to him… although he’s more than worth it… check out his videos on your own. He has his own UA-cam channel filled with videos of his incredible ability on the guitar. It seems he is one with his guitar, as if he were making love to it. I know that sounds strange, but it’s the closest I can get to convey how he handles and interacts with it. Amazing young man.

True. This song is about Eric Clapton's 4 year old son's death. The video is from the movie Rush. It has nothing to do with the actual song. Except for anyone that's has lost a loved one.
The song is so raw and you here the pain even if you dont know the story. But once you know erics 4 year old son died after a terrible accidental fall from a new york high rise. He wrote this song working through grief and its sounds like from the lyrics.. guilt as well though undeserved. Its a truely heartbreaking song. I was 9 when i lost my brother. I asked similar question - would i know him in heaven? Would he look like him? Would he still be 12 or grown up? So his grief hits hard!!

I just discovered your channel through this song. I LOVE this song, and listening to you talk about Eric Clapton, but then also start the video talking about the Beatles, it makes me have a question. Like I said, I just discovered your channel, so have you reacted to the Beatles song While My Guitar Gently Weeps? Its one of my favorites and FYI, it has a ridiculous guitar solo on it and you know who played guitar on that song for the Beatles? Eric Clapton. Listen to it if you haven’t please.
NEW YORK (AP) _ The 4 1/2 -year-old son of rock guitarist Eric Clapton died Wednesday after he fell out the window of a 53rd-floor apartment, police said. Conor Clapton fell shortly after 11 a.m. and landed on the roof of a four- story building next door, according to Officer Kim Royster.Mar 21, 1991
His 4 year old son, Conor lept to his death from a highrise apartment shortly before he wrote this song. I clearly remember I was at a gas station filling up when this song came on the radio in 1992. I was instantly transfixed and felt a sense of melencholy, yet I was happy to hear EC's new beautiful song.
Might as well get a little more specific - the boy was playing with his Mom running around wildly and ran through a wide open window somehow, left open by a window washer guy who was there in the room. It must have happened too fast for an adult to react.
This song is about Eric Losing his Son to a Tragic Accident. His Son i believe was Two years old at the time, and Fell to his Death From a High Rise Building Several Stories High!! Sad!

"AFTER MIDNIGHT", "I GOT A ROCK N ROLL HEART", "LAY DOWN SALLY",
"IT'S IN THE WAY THAT YOU USE IT", "ALIBYS"...!
YOU WILL LOVE ALL OF THESE...!
Eric Clapton wrote this song after the death of his son Conor. This makes me cry, I hear Eric's pain in voice.
This one is too hard. If you have children this is unimaginable.
His little boy’s mom has told their story. It’s on UA-cam. I don’t remember the title though. I had just lost my own son 16, when this song came out. That was over 30 yrs ago. It moves me to tears even now.
So sorry, my sincere condolences. Peace!
River Of Tears is my favorite of his, amazing song.
You should react to a band called, Extreme, and their song, More Than Words. Do the live version. Great song and great performance. Thanks.
At this moment I am thinking through tears of all the children who have died in wars since the beginning of wars > for whatever reason... no one who has suffered this loss will ever understand > why this tender young life was taken.
You have a voice, say stop!
Clapton is god.
Wonderful Patrick 🥰Sing!😘Lovely song.😘😘
Hard song to listen to. Can’t fathom how Eric was able to perform this song live after he lost his little boy. And in such a horrific way too. Sad.
One of my all time favorites. Always makes me cry... New subscriber!
Please react to Queens new song, "Face it alone ". Kinda like a lost song they found from 1988. With Freddie singing. They released it last week, and in 2 days it was number 1 in 22 countries, and number 1 on world wide itunes.
The movie is a seperate story line from the song. So don't confuse them.
Muy fuerte💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
The story goes this song was composed by Eric Clapton dedicated to his son who died at a young age....
Please try "Dance with my Father" from Luther Vandross ull love it guys..
I love you boys.
Here's a link to the story behind the song, "Tears In Heaven". ua-cam.com/video/-gbDPJTPYNs/v-deo.html
You NEED to listen to the Unplugged version of Old Love next.
Patrick - You are wearing a George Harrison shirt - Eric Clapton, at one point fell in love with George's wife! Check out Clapton's autobiography - it will STUN YOU!!!
Hi there, actually it's George who is wearing the George Harrison shirt.
If you know the back story to this tune and you DON'T tear up, there is something wrong with you!
Check Out his Rockers like Motherless Children, Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad, or for a change of pace Lay Down Sally ))) 💎⚡️🦅
"After Midnight", "I got a rock n roll heart", "It's in the way that you use it" are really good as well.
A very sad song...
🤍
He didn't leap, he fell. Big difference.
He fell. He did not leap to his death
Might as well get a little more specific - the boy was playing with his Mom running around wildly and ran through a wide open window somehow, left open by a window washer guy who was there in the room. It must have happened too fast for an adult to react.
He wrote this song after his young son died. Very sad
TEARS. That's all I can say.
I saw him live.
This song was in a very good movie with John Travolta, Phenomenon great movie sad ending 😢
This song is about Eric Losing his Son to a Tragic Accident. His Son i believe was Two years old at the time, and Fell to his Death From a High Rise Building Several Stories High!! Sad!
Recently recorded by Collabro who have in my opinion done this masterpiece justice.
His son passed away.wrote song for him.
I think Eric Clapton sang this at the memorial after the Oklahoma City bombing.
Louis Armstrong “What A Wonderful World “😘😘Skoro peremoha 🇺🇦🇺🇸

I don't know if you guys no this but Eric Clapton was supposed to be on the plane that crashed and killed Stevie Ray Vaughan. We lost one legend but thank God EC is still with us.

The Beatles BLACKBIRD
Listen to a song called “Breakfast Table “ by Chris Rice who’s a Christian singer.
I dreamt my son died in his crib, woke up crying and feeling that pain for a few moments... it was horrible..!
