THANK YOU. . My grandfather gave me his 06 and I promised I'd get it fixed and he wants to see it running. I've been trying my best to fix it. you are a blessing and i pray its something simple. Has a new Turbo. New Glow plugs. New fuel pump and filters. New IPR Valve. The mechanic said it was the HPOP which I payed to have fixed and now the truck still won't start. The mech said it started but won't run because he put the wrong HPOP in it. He's nowhere to be found and the truck is in my driveway. Thank you again for your advice. At least I now have a starting point.
There are ALOT of bad mechanics out there. I learned to fix my own 6.0. I already fixed 2 more trucks. I fixed a truck that a mechanic messed all up, injectors loose, loose bolts.
I have an '04 F50 6.0 that suddenly wouldn't start after I turned it off at a bank drive thru. 2 mechanics instantly said I need a new hi pressure oil pump. Thanks to your video I understand what to look for, the parts involved and where they're located . Most informative video I've found on this issue, thank you!
Most informative 25 minutes of my life worth every second before I send my diesel to a shop where they're just going to screw me over I'm going to watch every one of your videos on a 6.0 I bet I'll be able to fix it myself
@@manworksgarage . . . If you have never been screwed over by a mechanic shop you may just not realize it. My 1st diesel was a 1983 6.2 cross over. I had a problem of it only being able to run about 35 mph. Everyone I talked to said it was an injector pump . About a $1500 fix at the time. I knew a lot of people that had been through the same thing and still didn't fix their truck so I went to about 10 different shops until the last one. The guy said people were just ripping people off , He put a new pvc valve in mine , didn't charge me anything . He said come see me when we have a real problem . . . . I got Lucky ! A lot of my friends didn't . I can tell you lots of other stories of friends getting screwed over by mostly dealerships ! There are some good guys out there and there are some that will take you for what they can get. . . . same as any other business. So don't be so pious !
@WH I'm saying not everybody out there it's screwing you over and if you don't know something you have to pay an expert to do it experts mechanics that Fix trucks aren't all screwing people over
Tha ks slot man after almost $3000 in labor and parts , this video helped me get my truck fired up in no time, with no out of pocket. THANK YOU, GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!
Very good video amigo. On the comments you are right people need to understand they need a good battery more than 12.4 volts and they need to subscribe to all data for wiring and troubleshooting. Thank you
Hello, Did an air test, pulled valve covers, finally found bad seal on the J tube, also replaced HPOP and resealed, Put it all back together, I do have low oil pressure, filling the oil filter housing with oil. also replace the injector wire bundle because of several bare wires, upon attempting to start the truck, cranking no start, and i noticed a different sound from the FICM, could i have received a wrong or bad Injector harness, or one that's not right for my 2004 6.0 ? Thank you for your time
Got 06 model building for son in law I am a professional mechanic worked on several 6.0 . I’ve got hot no start killing me. Cannot find leak in hpop system everything is new bout to give it up. Appreciate your video
Same here changed out my starter and solenoid and icp plug seen this videos comments someone said check ya battery terminals ya JACKASS there she was my special L terminal cracked in half completely behind the battery Surprises before Christmas 😅
Thank you for your video , Everything that you show about the oil pump and oil pressure parts to check and debris to look for, and none of that indicates need a new motor
Mine did exactly this today. Ran great for 20 minutes. Went in the store and when I went to crank it, nothing. Throwing no codes. Had it towed home. I'll be checking this stuff tomorrow. Stay tuned. Great video.
@@nolimitnights . . . . Did you get yours figured out ? I just bought a "04 6L . Started and ran like a Champ for two days , next day wouldn't start ! Crap ! Sounds like these engines are to complicated. Been driving Cummins for years and never had a problem. Got a guy coming to look at mine . If it costs a lot to fix , I'm gonna check to see how complicated it will be to put a 5.9 Cummins in this F-250 ! Anyone have any Idea if that is doable ? Thanks !
I have watched tons of diagnostic video's online over the year's. I have to say that your video is the most easy to follow and the most detailed one on the powerstroke crank no start problem. I have worked on many different vehicle's as well as the powerstrokes. But I could not figure this problem out until I watched this video, thank you..
My 400k excursion, that is the miles not the amount of receipts. It was slow cranking even with new batteries. My mechanic installed a new starter. Wow super fast cranking and started perfect.
My 6.0 has a cold and hot no start. I found a bad o-ring on a nipple cupm on the pass side and replaced them(pass side) w/HRC cups and replaced the injectors o-rings while I was in there. Also replaced the stand pies and dummies on bot sides. I don’t have a scanner and don’t want to be a backyard mechanic and keep replacing parts till It runs. I do have a new IPR valve, cups for the left side and inj seals also. If I hit it with diesel starting fluid it starts and runs fine?
Until I shut it off then need starting fluid to fire it back up. I’m at a loss of what to do. I’ve been a mechanic for 40 years but not diesel. I brought it to a diesel shop and he ripped me off like you wouldn’t believe!!!! I broke my back and hip, so I can’t really lay over the core support for very long. ANY info you could recommend would be greatly appreciated. I will also pay you for a walk though onlinePhone etc.. to get this problem resolved! I need my truck running perfectly cause Im heading South wit a loaded trailer pretty soon. Im from NH
Part of the issue here is assuming you are getting ripped off. I have no idea if the shop you went to is a good shop or not, but no matter what diesel repairs are expensive. The fact that you have been a mechanic for 40 years and cant figure it out should tell you that whoever DOES figure it out is probably going to be worth a pretty penny. Also if you actually are a mechanic then why the hell do you not own a decent scanner? These days there are so many options for affordable powerful scan tools, hell Forscan is free and will do almost anything you need. As for what you are describing, it sounds like a HPOP pressure issue still, but its possible you have an electrical concern with a crank sensor or similar that doesnt work until the engine is at a high enough speed. Either way you have something that is preventing the truck from starting until the engine sees a high enough RPM, most likely still high pressure oil, but you need a scan tool to help find out what is happening. When it comes to repairs at my shop I do not provide diagnostics for people without me performing the repair in most cases, but ESPECIALLY with diesels. The diagnostic process on these often requires disassmbly and if I am not the one that is going to be fixing it, it makes no sense for me to tear it apart. 6.0 No start diags generally run several hundred dollars because of the labor involved, it is still often mostly included/combined with repairs if this is the case but either way that takes the right knowledge, the right tools etc. For what its worth, I work on a lot of diesel trucks and own a shop, I dont even own one because I dont have the need at this time and know how expensive they are. If you tow on occasion and not every day, get a V10 and spend the extra gas money because it is still cheaper.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel yeah I had to close my shop a couple years ago.And sold all my heavy equipment, then sold my scanner last year. I got bumped off a roof down in S.C.(I live in N.H.). Couldn’t work so I sold out. Last time it did this, I had a bad nipple cup o-ring,right side. Is there a program I can buy for my laptop and a pigtail? And what would be the best one for the buck? I figured it’s such a common problem, I trying to narrow it down, cause it’s extremely hard (and painful) to lay across the core support. I appreciate that you got back to me. But like I said iT runs perfectly with a small shot of starting fluid! But I have to do it every time I start it?
Google Forscan you can use it with your phone or a laptop you will need a dongle you can buy for like $20 or so on Amazon. I am sorry to hear of your circumstances, I hope you get it figured out but there wont be any further assistance I can offer from 3,000 miles away.
I own a few ford trucks but they really need work. Hopefully i can find the underlining issue with this vid, we miss driving the truck. Wish us luck fellas 🤞 gonna need it
I just had my 05 bulletproof about 3 years ago. And nothing for problems ever since. Now the air leak sounds like a bear in broken by the passenger side valve cover. It will not run very well as no power for the first 15 minutes. Fuel is leaking back into the tank. Fuel bowl is empty every morning. And after it sits for an hour the fuel bowl is empty it runs like crap the first 15 minutes. Nothing but problems. Any suggestions? Pretty positive this video is one problem I have. But I still have fuel leaking back in the tank. And the truck has to cool down completely before it will start back up again
Awesome video my 06 F350 6.0 as of today will not start it will crank but won’t fire off . I also had a code 0299 but It ran fine until this morning after a huge rain storm !
What the H@#$ is going on so today I tried to start the truck and the batteries started getting weak ,so I put my battery charger on , while I was going to writing down info from your video . Went out and was going to see what my numbers where going to be when I tried to start it. And it started after a about 10-15 of seconds cranking it ?
My 2005 6.0 was working amazing, next morning I went to turn it on and everything powered up but no crank. starters good, relays are good, batteries are good, I replaced the starter terminal and it still isn’t cranking. Any suggestions on what it could be???
Oil pressure sensor on the top of the motor has also caused a no start multiple times for me. Unplug it and the truck will run...albeit poorly...but it will get you to a NAPA.
@@sauce_joey8915 Google it...but if memory serves me correctly, front and slightly left between the manifolds. Should be a two-wire connector in the top of the sensor.
I have a2006 6.0 power stroke that has been bullet proofed. It is a bigger to crank . It will crank and run fine but most times it takes a 3 or four cycle with the heaters cutting the ignition on and off. It seems to want you to turn cranking and most times it is when you stop the winding it cranks and runs fine. Hope you have the magic.
Great advice, one other thing one might want to check is their batteries. I was having some of these issues and once I fully charged the batteries it started right up. I'm no mechanic, but fear is a great motivator
I'm going crazy over here! 2005 6.0 Powerstroke While Cranking: FICM SYC - 1 FMP - 47 Volts ICP - 1533 PSI IPR - 56.2% I still got a crank no start, where should I look? With that much pressure I don't think I need to air test it.
Any idea why my 6.0 starts easier if I push it off than if I use the starter? Most days the starter will not even get it running but if I roll it down a hill it'll fire.
I recently had my 03 6.0 f250 service for a crack injector and when I got it back my a/c went out and and the next day I was driving it , smell like burn rubber but couldn’t figure out from where. Park my truck and 3 hr later try to turn it on but won’t come on. It would crank and everything but just won’t turn on
My truck had the same problem but now my dash board won't turn on the gauges won't read for the speed or anything. And it won't accelerate past a certain speed just keeps dropping up and down. It's 2005 lariat f250
Question what if you don’t get a code I’m was crank and start until I found a red wire, running from the fuse panel under the driver steering wheel across the dash to the I guess emergency shut off for the fuel, and after messing with that truck won’t start
I have a 06 f250 crank no start. Process of elimination- injectors are not clattering after turning key on. The amps at the ficm gradually builds to 58amps when key is turned on. Is that to many amps? I've checked the relay and 12 volts on both sides.
I got the same problem. I'm still chasing the issue.. one day, i get clatter, but then it sounds like only one.. but then the next day, no clatter at all. pressures are good all syncing.. fuel pump kicks on.. voltages seem ok, but the amperage draw seems very high with the key on. no injector clatter...
I appreciate the video tip! Curiosity has the best of me, therefore I am going to check out a ‘04 that is for sale, but will not start. The business said that it ran before. If I can get it started, then I will have me a project truck for the next year. But this all depends on how bad of shape the truck is and price. So I will check the oil, low pressure fuel.
hey there we just changed the glow pugs camsenser cranksense and crankseal and the fuel pump but she wants to start but seems like she dosent have the power to and its kicked out gray and black smoke . will this video help with that or do u think its an air lock in the line? thank you katrina
This video can help point you in the right direction of things to check, if its pumping out black smoke it sounds like the injectors are probably firing. These need to be on a battery jumper usually when opening the HPOP system but it doesn't sound like you guys had to do that with the repairs you listed.
My son's f250 6.0 diesel showed a battery icon that lit up on the dashboard just before it just died on him. And since then we have been unable to get it to start. It turns over but won't start. Any suggestions? Oh with no codes and no check engine light illuminated.
How is it cranking? put a charger on it for awhile and make sure they are fully charged, slow cranking will not help these engines and they require a LOT of power to start between lighting the glow plugs and cranking the high compression engine at the same time. Other than that if it is cranking strong then follow what I showed in the video for at least a few clues and possibilities
By the way...if the check engine light isnt on with the key on there is probably an electrical or communication problem...no CEL while driving is good but get into any car with a key after 1996 or so and turn the key to the "On" position and you will have a light on for the check engine and a few others. If you dont in many cases it might mean your cluster is not seeing the engine computer either turn on or communicate.
@@kp__truckin Stock alternator is junk. The same one is used on a Ford fusion. That can also take your FICM out, along with weak batteries. Changing out the alternator is a must if you are going to tow a camper trailer.
My 04 i just got it cranks and no start but when i turn the key it has a gauge on the fuel filter and when key is on it will go to 60 then it makes a air noice and goes back to 0? Also it smokes white when cranking but will never start i dont know what this is the only code it has is p0197 i need some help
There's a difference between a parts changer and a good mechanic,a good mechanic will diagnose the problem not just guess and throw parts at it,once you learn how to diagnose the problem it will save you big dollars in the end... excellent video
My recommendation is get a temporary personal subscription to AllData or similar or buy a factory service manual and you will have access to all you need.
Hi. What kind of equipment is needed to diagnose a Ford F 550 6.0 2004 car, with an OBD connector? I have an international truck. What is the name of the scanner?
Question, I only hav e 7.3 experience. is there an oil reservoir on the 6.0 that feeds the HPOP like 7.3? If it does not have oil in it like the. 7.3 cause a no start too?
If it helps anyone, I had my 06 shut off completely with no start on the highway, started replacing standpipes and dummy plugs but the seals looked ok anyways but found the icp sensor and stc fitting o rings blown apart.
You would have found that if you tested and searched for the leak properly. Assuming anything is not the proper way to go about repairs. The whole point of this video is to show different ways to diagnose the problem, it is not an end all be all obviously the video isnt hours long but the point is dont guess.
What about in an E-350 van with a ‘doghouse’ engine cover inside the cab of the van? Is this 6.0L high pressure oil leak problem easier or more difficult to work on, compared to a truck? How many hours labor should it take a skilled mechanic to solve this high pressure leak hot soak & long crank & no start problem ?
Passenger valve cover is harder to remove but its still the same engine. Some things are easier to get to because of the access from the back others are harder its all a trade off
Very in formative vid,,I'm acquiring my brothers 05 6.0.240,000mls,.in good shape,(used for towing rv,,no tuner),between me and my oldest brother,,both of us mechanics,,the lift pump is the issue or The HFCM,,,causing intermittent starts the last 6years,,,I just wanted to know your thoughts on this blue spring upgrade,,good bad etc..I plan on leaving this truck stock,
The blue spring upgrade is worth doing and doesnt even cost what an oil change does so idk why that wouldnt have been done already if you both know about it. As for intermittent starts it could be the pump or something else but without proper testing and catching something going wrong it wouldnt be great to just throw parts at it.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel I recently stumbled across this blue spring upgrade,,,it seems people are upgrading with tuners, deletes, big tires, and black smoke.lol.as my brother and I are more hd diesel techs.
My issue is so weird. While running down the road I went from 14.3 to 10v battery light came on truck died stranded me on the freeway. I put all new batteries and alt and still will not start , I’m lead to believe possibly the starter??? On the gauges the oil meter isn’t moving at all, but oil is building in the filter holding and all. Checked HPOP on my monitor while cranking it’s only 55psi but this doesn’t make sense because EVERYTHING is brand new less than 3k on new motor , new hpop etc. the only thing that isn’t new is the starter. Truck cranks n cranks n cranks very strongly but will not run . Any1 can help.?
Hey I was driving my 6.0 on the highway hit some uneven pavement and it shutoff the truck going 80 pulled over tried to start it and didnt want to even crank all lights on dash were on though
03 6.0 f250 code p2285 new icp and pigtail new ipr still no start. I would think with a low voltage code like I'm getting it would be wiring or computer related. What's your advice. I'm waiting on a good scanner to really test everything. Just curious what you would look at first.
I showed in this video exactly what to do. Get access to a scanner that can read the right data and see what ICP Pressure is showing, check your oil and pressurize the system to look for leaks.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel so I fixed the oil pressure issue but since scanning it ficm voltages are all 0. Ficm low main and high all read 0 on the scanner. But tested ficm with multimeter and it reads 48v with key on
Gear heads, What kind of scanner is that, and where can I get one. I’m currently using an edge scanner that has helped me so far. It shows most if not all readings for the sensors
What if you get right off 1685 at icp and fuel pressure reads 100 psi on scanner and you have no leaks and I replaced the irp valve and it started but for only 30 seconds then I found 3 leaking injectors and replaced them all reading good still no Starr Oh I did change oil and filter do to feel in it.
There is no fuel pressure value on the scanner so not sure what the 100psi value is. 1685 icp cranking is too high as well unless that was a running value off idle. Sounds like your data is off or you are looking at the wrong things. If the injector control pressure is over 500psi and it still wont start then you have another issue.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel my Snap-on scan tool allows me going to fuel data and the fuel data tells me that the fuel pump pressure is 100 PSI I read that cranking could be anywhere from 500 to 2000 but you're saying that 1685 is too high I can't find any more leaks it will not start on ether I had three bad leaky injectors replace them the IPR valve is at 85% so could I have no coats but I have a bad ICP valve
Wish I could figure out why mine wont start after putting on all new injectors, glow plugs, bulletproof air cooler, blue spring kit, new standpipes, new oil rail seals and cups, new thermostat, new turbo drain pipe,, water pump, and EGR valve. I have it facing down on a decline with 1/4 tank of fuel, but the filter housing on the front is full. Used the yellow/blue wire from the starer on the battery and the compression sounds good.
You just gave a list of things you replaced, you didnt give any list at all on what you can confirm the truck is or isnt getting to start. That is the backwards wrong way to think about diagnosing a problem, any problem. Cant tell you how many bad parts I have gotten out of the box, how many wrong repairs I made before I learned and how many times I have to fix things now that other people threw the parts cannon at. Slow down and relax, go back to the basics and figure out what you do and dont have that the engine needs to start. You could have simply even forgotten to plug in the crank sensor, or maybe its somethng else or a bad part you got but no one will know until someone actually goes in and diagnoses it properly, which this video was intended to at least give some help on although it doesnt and never could cover everything.
dont know off the top of my head what .24 volts is but .24 doesnt sound like 950. If you can verify you have 950 then you have a problem elsewhere. I mentioned watching for FICM Sync etc as well. Also if it is the 04.5+ or so then try unplugging your icp sensor. An HPOP no start issue will present with less than 500psi, so first make sure your data is correct and if it is then look elsewhere.
spot on video!...had exact same issue on my '05 that dealer could not or would not properly diagnose...Turned out to be the flawed HPOP fitting...Replaced fitting with updated version and all good......now I have a similar issue but only when the truck is cold...Once warmed up it will run and start fine but at normal cold outdoor temps, say 70 degrees or lower, it will not start without turning the starter for several cycles until it finally fires up. I'm thinking glow plug issues or sticking injectors???? Any thoughts? Dreat vid and thanks for the detailed info.
My 6.0 ran out of fuel .I primed the fuel pump and also primed the ingnition to send fuel to the filter that’s not the issue my starter went out so I changed that but it’s still turning over I checked voltage in batteries one has low voltage dropping to I went to o Riley to charge it so when I hook it up do I prime it for 30sec on and off a few time again ??
If you ran out of fuel but the bowl is full then you might have killed your injectors. But you NEED to have a charger at your house because if you ran it dry and got air in the system it can take quite a bit of cranking to get it to start.
A charger as in batteries charger?I took both of them to o Reilly’s they’re charging me now And also I had another fellow mechanic use his snap on scanner and it said 1 fuel injector circuit low
I have an 03 ford F550 6.0 V8 and this problem started out of nowhere it was just fine working and now when I try to start it with the key it just clicks I can only start it from inside of the hood I tried to bypass it and it started right up with the key and now it’s doing the same thing, any suggestions Of what’s wrong or how to fix it
That is not the same as the problem as what is happening in this video, you have an electrical issue sounds like might be an ignition switch or related item. If you dont know how to test and diagnose it find a local mechanic you trust.
Hello when is cool start when get hot and stop then want fire up again it won’t start how to fix it thank you is 2007 box truck 16 “ft 6.0 L turbo ford
I have the F250 with a 6.0. The problem I’m having is that the starter isn’t coming on when I try to crank it. I have removed the starter and had it tested but it was fine. I have replaced the starter relay and tested all of the fuses but still can’t find the problem. What do I need to check next?
You are going about this wrong, between your key and the starter there are other components involved that need to send that signal. With a test light or multimeter you can test everything necessary. First off, when you turn the key to the crank position is the ignition switch actually sending that signal? if so it still has a couple safeties to go through first, one thing would be your neutral safety switch. Does it crank if you pop it in neutral but not park? Can you watch it happen with the multimeter or test light? Past this it could be computer issues but with the right knowledge and testing even this can be diagnosed with basic tools. Long story short, your starter has two powers going to it, the constant 12v from the battery to the motor(the thicker gauge wire) and the starter solenoid control wire. If you are not getting 12 volts or so to the solenoid wire then the problem is upstream from there. Whether it is worth your time to figure out or pay someone else is up to you. Btw 6.0's have a wire near the passenger battery that can be jumped to crank the engine and if they key is in the on position it will start.
I came across your video because I have recently been dealing with a long crank when cold issue. I replaced the dummy plugs, stand pipes, and also replaced valve screen and seals on the IPR valve. Of note the IPR valve didn't have any damage to the seals or the screen but since I had everything apart, I just installed a new seals/screen kit. I got everything back together and the truck started up after a few long cranks. Now I have a long crank when cold and also long crank when hot so I am thinking that the work I did didn't actually fix anything it just created more problems for me. Do you have any tips and tricks that I can do before I tear the valve covers off again and inspect them? thanks Anthony
Get your batteries tested? Owned my 6.0L for 17 years. Every 3 years no matter battery brand we find at least 1 cell is bad on the batteries. Glow plugs and using the block heater also help in winter. We use Amsoil and our truck has over 420k miles and cranks reliably. Love my 6.0!

I've got a 2005 6.0. It quit on me while I was driving and now just turns over but won't start. I took the cap off fuel filter and its got plenty of fuel. The only code I get is U1900. Can that code tell me something or what should I look at next
That code is saying there is a CAN Bus communication error. At this rate you will need to take it to a shop that has the proper equipment and knowledge, if the communication error is what is causing your issue then without the right tools and know how it is going to be very unlikely that you will be able to fix the issue.
So my grandpa is giving me his 08 f250 Diesel and it’s been parked for several years and it cranks but no start and we don’t know what’s wrong how can we get it to start ? It’s a twin turbo 6.4L
I just bought a 2006 F-250 Super Duty 4x2 w/271k miles. It used to belong to Granite Construction, so I believe they have a good maintenance program. What problems should I be expecting?
271k miles, literally anything is possible at that point. Could be an engine, a transmission, a leak, suspension issues, axle problems. Good maintenance is important but when you get that far into a vehicles life you cant expect to know what may fail next. If you bought a truck with 30k miles I could tell you what to expect.
@@sonnydayz2118 start with a checklist. Drain and fill the coolant just in case. Change oils on everything. Run clean diesel plus some Lucas or other additives that help with stiction. Change both fuel filters with motor craft original filters
Use dealer parts, these trucks are sensitive. You can replace some parts with bulletproof diesel stuff but that’s about it. Other than that use dealer parts for everything. You can get away with after market oil but not the coolant, transmission fluid, etc.

Thank you everyone for replying back. So it did end up being the alternator. But unfortunately my son dropped a bit down where the oil pump goes up on top of the engine. Thanks to your video I understand what to look for, the parts involved and where they're located . Most informative video I've found on this issue, thank you!
What was the fix had the same exact thing happen to me

Good luck! I think this is the only video I have made so far lol
So experts charging you to fix your truck is screwing you over?

Well just watching the video for the first time, iam impressed! I plan on tearing into my 6.0 this week ,
Really nice video! Very professional analysis and down to the point tips. Thanks
Mine did exactly this today. Ran great for 20 minutes. Went in the store and when I went to crank it, nothing. Throwing no codes. Had it towed home. I'll be checking this stuff tomorrow. Stay tuned. Great video.

Great video. I have one of these trucks, 2006 and I hav been able to keep it running so far
Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Very good video and smart guy good mechanic
Need help with a 2007 6.0. Zero voltage to the ICP with the key on and engine off.
Dude, you are brilliant. Love your videos… some of the most helpful info I’ve ever come across on UA-cam.
Good job and thank you
My 2005 6.0 was working amazing, next morning I went to turn it on and everything powered up but no crank. starters good, relays are good, batteries are good, I replaced the starter terminal and it still isn’t cranking. Any suggestions on what it could be???
Check icp sensor map sensor or dummies plugs very common
Oil pressure sensor on the top of the motor has also caused a no start multiple times for me. Unplug it and the truck will run...albeit poorly...but it will get you to a NAPA.
Where exactly?
@@sauce_joey8915 Google it...but if memory serves me correctly, front and slightly left between the manifolds. Should be a two-wire connector in the top of the sensor.
I have a2006 6.0 power stroke that has been bullet proofed. It is a bigger to crank . It will crank and run fine but most times it takes a 3 or four cycle with the heaters cutting the ignition on and off. It seems to want you to turn cranking and most times it is when you stop the winding it cranks and runs fine. Hope you have the magic.
Im sorry but the spelling and wording was very confusing, from what I can hear it sounds like you may just have weak batteries.
Thank You for video and sharing your dog with us. Much appreciated
What tool was used didn't see the link
If you tap it and it turns on is the pump bad ?
Great advice, one other thing one might want to check is their batteries.
I was having some of these issues and once I fully charged the batteries it started right up.

Batteries are very important, I feel you!
Great presentation man.
I'm going crazy over here! 2005 6.0 Powerstroke
While Cranking:
FICM SYC - 1
FMP - 47 Volts
ICP - 1533 PSI
IPR - 56.2%
I still got a crank no start, where should I look? With that much pressure I don't think I need to air test it.
Have you tested your fuel pressure? At the fuel bowl?
Any idea why my 6.0 starts easier if I push it off than if I use the starter? Most days the starter will not even get it running but if I roll it down a hill it'll fire.
12:12 where did you connect the hose?
I have a problem with a 06 Ford 6.0 it has problems cranking and when it starts and I let the accelerator go it turns off
Great video, but I'm going to take it to a shop.
😂that's what I did, I understand gas engines but not diesel.. 🤦🏻
Be careful who you use the 6.0 gets a bad rep in my opinion because of crappy mechanics great truck but high maintenance
How do you check the low pressure oil pom
With an oil pressure gauge
They make a billet cap with a 1/8” threaded hole in the center. You can take a pressure reading there.
Hi. My 03 6.0 not filling the fuel filter only does air bubbles, i should i begin replacing?
I recently had my 03 6.0 f250 service for a crack injector and when I got it back my a/c went out and and the next day I was driving it , smell like burn rubber but couldn’t figure out from where. Park my truck and 3 hr later try to turn it on but won’t come on. It would crank and everything but just won’t turn on
Any helpful ideas on where to start
Does it start when plugged in? I recently had my injectors replaced and mine won't start unless plugged in
I had a/c issues, then no start. Turned out the a/c bearing had seized. @@eduardomontes1676
My truck had the same problem but now my dash board won't turn on the gauges won't read for the speed or anything. And it won't accelerate past a certain speed just keeps dropping up and down. It's 2005 lariat f250
I had similar issues with 04 F350. Replacement alternator solved that
Question what if you don’t get a code I’m was crank and start until I found a red wire, running from the fuse panel under the driver steering wheel across the dash to the I guess emergency shut off for the fuel, and after messing with that truck won’t start
How often and why the injectors cups are leaking air?
My 2005 had a no start. Failed oil cooler. Covered under warranty. Towed twice and would start once cold.
Could a bad EGR VALVE cause a crank but no start situation on my son's 05 f250 6.0 diesel power stroke?
I appreciate the video tip! Curiosity has the best of me, therefore I am going to check out a ‘04 that is for sale, but will not start. The business said that it ran before. If I can get it started, then I will have me a project truck for the next year. But this all depends
on how bad of shape the truck is and price. So I will check the oil, low pressure fuel.
Good luck!
hey there we just changed the glow pugs camsenser cranksense and crankseal and the fuel pump but she wants to start but seems like she dosent have the power to and its kicked out gray and black smoke . will this video help with that or do u think its an air lock in the line? thank you katrina
Just happened to me in my f350
Probably a shit alternator these trucks have a crap factory alternator I’ve long upgraded that and bat/alt cables on mine 🤘🏻✌🏻
@@kp__truckin Stock alternator is junk. The same one is used on a Ford fusion. That can also take your FICM out, along with weak batteries. Changing out the alternator is a must if you are going to tow a camper trailer.
And seriously way more info than the mechanic I have it at… should have done it myself!!!!
My 04 i just got it cranks and no start but when i turn the key it has a gauge on the fuel filter and when key is on it will go to 60 then it makes a air noice and goes back to 0? Hi. What kind of equipment is needed to diagnose a Ford F 550 6.0 2004 car, with an OBD connector? I have an international truck. What is the name of the scanner?
You need Ford IDS to really properly diagnose these trucks or let’s put it this way. It’s extremely helpful software for that.
Question, I only hav e 7.3 experience. is there an oil reservoir on the 6.0 that feeds the HPOP like 7.3? If it does not have oil in it like the. 7.3 cause a no start too?
Nah the 6.0 does not have an oil reservoir and the system is very different from the 7.3.
Some things are easier to get to because of the access from the back others are harder its all a trade off
Where can I get the fuel sensor?
How to contact you guys? I have 2 trucks stuck on my shop and i cant start them, pls, i need help

On the gauges the oil meter isn’t moving at all, but oil is building in the filter holding and all. 05 6.0 has no crank at all , no injector clatter at all? What could it be bad FICM?
Hey I was driving my 6.0 on the highway hit some uneven pavement and it shutoff the truck going 80 pulled over tried to start it and didnt want to even crank all lights on dash were on though
Sounds like an electronic issue, make sure your batteries are fully connected and check your grounds and harnesses.
Inertia switch down LH side in the passenger foot well be worth checking
03 6.0 f250 code p2285 new icp and pigtail new ipr still no start. I would think with a low voltage code like I'm getting it would be wiring or computer related. What's your advice. I'm waiting on a good scanner to really test everything. Just curious what you would look at first.
I showed in this video exactly what to do. Get access to a scanner that can read the right data and see what ICP Pressure is showing, check your oil and pressurize the system to look for leaks.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel yeah I've got no oil pressure when cranking. The gauge doesn't even move.
What if you get right off 1685 at icp and fuel pressure reads 100 psi on scanner and you have no leaks and I replaced the irp valve and it started but for only 30 seconds then I found 3 leaking injectors and replaced them all reading good still no Starr
Oh I did change oil and filter do to feel in it.
My tool is snap on
There is no fuel pressure value on the scanner so not sure what the 100psi value is.
I have a icp voltage of .24 and it stays at .24 when cranking the icp pressure I at 950 when cranking
dont know off the top of my head what .24 volts is but .24 doesnt sound like 950.
Verry helpful, thank you
i dont think i should be worried but my ficm says im getting 49 volts. sometimes 48.5 and 48 but nothing below that and nothing higher than 49
spot on video!...had exact same issue on my '05 that dealer could not or would not properly diagnose...Turned out to be the flawed HPOP fitting...Replaced fitting with updated version and all good......now I have a similar issue but only when the truck is cold...Once warmed up it will run and start fine but at normal cold outdoor temps, say 70 degrees or lower, it will not start without turning the starter for several cycles until it finally fires up. I'm thinking glow plug issues or sticking injectors???? Any thoughts?
Dreat vid and thanks for the detailed info.
Do you have any codes? Could be injectors going out, air in your fuel or glow plug issues, have to test things and watch data to find out.
There is a aftermarket cap that has a place for a fitting to put a pressure gage fitting on so you just put test Guage on it lot eas
A charger as in batteries charger?I took both of them to o Reilly’s they’re charging me now
And also I had another fellow mechanic use his snap on scanner and it said 1 fuel injector circuit low
Hello when is cool start when get hot and stop then want fire up again it won’t start how to fix it thank you is 2007 box truck 16 “ft 6.0 L turbo ford
lot's of good info thanks
I will see if I can find that wire. At least if I can get it started that way I can get it to a mechanic
Great work
I came across your video because I have recently been dealing with a long crank when cold issue. Do you have any tips and tricks that I can do before I tear the valve covers off again and inspect them?
thanks

I just bought a 2004 6.0 F250 a week ago. Started fine and run like a scalded dog. Two days ago it just wouldn't start any more. Turns over fine. Not Good for my 1st 6.0 experience. I'm thinking I screwed up buy this truck but your story gives me a little hope ! The guy I bought it from says he will come give it a look. Fingers crossed ! 8 )
@@wh8085 10W 30 . We live in MS so we rarely get below 25 in winter. We bullet proofed our 6.0L when it had about 24k on it.
@@littlefinkle7757 . . .Thanks for the reply. I'm in Oklahoma .Usually not real severe winters here . What do I need to do to " Bullet Proof this one. It has 110,000 on the odometer. I'm hoping I can get some service out of this truck. I bought it for the 8' bed to carry a slide in truck camper. Hoping it works out ! Thanks !
Can it also be when it leaks oil out of the exhaust
My 04 just driving along and shut off like you turned the key off and will not start back but will run somewhat on either
Changed cam sensor
I need help I have two 2004 Ford f250 kind ranch diesels that won't crank or start before it did when we put diesel on both of them they started to shut off while driving without any warning as if it was losing diesel we have been stuck for about 2 years figuring out what the problem is we need help !
You dont have any diesel mechanics in your area that can assist you?
Might should have used diesel instead of gas.
My bad that's a typo i ment diesel
I
Just replaced oil cooler and I put it all back together and it cranks but no start what gives
Maybe IPR sensor
So my grandpa is giving me his 08 f250 Diesel and it’s been parked for several years and it cranks but no start and we don’t know what’s wrong how can we get it to start ? It’s a twin turbo 6.4L
Look up Diesel Tech Ron Channel on UA-cam. He has everything you need to know.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel I snagged it for. $4800 @ an auction and will only be using it to pull our small camper and occasionally off-roading.
@@joeshmoe8952 thank you. I've been a heavy equipment mechanic for most of my working life (mostly mining sized), but I'm not familiar with small diesel truck common problems. I hate that you have to take the cab off, just to do some stuff, because I personally don't own a garage for doing that.
My 6.0 turns on but it won't start when the ingine is hot
Only wont start when the engine is hot? Then I told you in this video exactly what is going on and how to find it.
I need some help with my 2007 f250 6.0.
Awesome video thank you
My f 550, 2007, 6.0 turns off when it hit a bump and I checked all the cables and I don't know what happens anymore
Outstanding! Your the man!!! Thank you for all the helpful information!!!!!
Hello, I have code P2284 injector control pressure circuit range/performance, any ideas what to look for ?
What year is your truck?
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel I have this also mine is a 06
So when the car starts it goes off and when the car starts after difficult start by giving it gas, what do I do to correct this.
A great video ❤
Thank you everyone for replying back. So it did end up being the alternator. But unfortunately my son dropped a bit down where the oil pump goes up on top of the engine. He didn't see it with an inspection camera looking up through the drain plug and looking down from the pump down through. Does anybody have any suggestions? Myself, I suggested he take the oil that he's drained and put it back through until he flushes it through the drain plug. But he wants to remove the oil pan which entails more work than necessary. With that being said.... Please suggestions??
My is a 2006.only starts with starter fluids. Cleaned fuel tank, replaced fuel filters. Ran OK for about 2 weeks and is having same or worse issues starting or keeping runing. But it won't start unless I spay it first. Truck is parked.
I gave you a list of things to test, cant do much else without seeing the truck myself I sadly am too busy to try and help diagnose through the internet.
Could it be poor fuel quality or water in the fuel, or bad fuel pump?
