  • After a full year of work, the Sony A7 IV remains in my bag 24/7 as my go-to hybrid camera. Why? Because it's really never let me down, and that's the mark of a great tool.

    Nice - finally seeing some low light photos of the A7IV. Appreciate that. Also, that b-ball shot. Wow. Been really trying to thread the needle on my next purchase as I move off of an APS-C cropped sensor and make sure I'm covered on the photos and vids and better covered in low light....
    (while also not wanting to make a purchase too soon and have wished I waited if some great break-through is released this year. A7V, S5IIx, etc...)

      I hear you. I think it’s hard to go wrong in the hybrid market right now. Canon R6 II, A7 IV, S5ii. People are creating awesome content with them all, and the competition just makes the next release a little bit better (removing record limits, addressing overheating, etc). When I switched to Sony in 2021, it was for the lens choices and so many great 3rd party options. Don’t have to break the bank for quality glass. Good luck with your choice!

      @@ChrisHagan Thanks Chris! I do need to upgrade from my a6400....my main focus is on my editing business, so there's always more emphasis on the computing power and studio gear, but -- in an ever increasing number of situations, I do need to go get more than footage than a client has available (otherwise I'm left with some really sub-standard, shooting). Really want to choose my ecosystem carefully, I'm somewhat, but not too invested in Sony at this stage - it's a great world to choose from, in many ways...and I was actually quite taken by a Tamron that I played with recently on the A7III in a store....but I do like where the L-Mount alliance is headed and I don't want to be 'stuck'.

    I love the A7iv, I also have the A7siii too, I used the iv recently for paid professional photo shoots covering an event indoors and just the other day at an out door off road race doing photos and videos, I filmed in 24, 60 and 120 fps and all were great. Only issue is when I am filming product videos in my studio it has overheated a few times forcing me to take a break from work. lol

      I actually got my first overheating warning from the A7 IV shooting a long-form video a few weeks ago. Took having a monitor connected and XLR hotshoe attachment to do it. But I never stopped recording (4K24). Just opened the flip screen and eventually it cooled on its own and kept rolling.

    Just a friendly hint (but my opinion only, worth what you pay for it), when you show a closeup of the product, don't hide your face! It's ok to cut to a b-roll product close, and then cut back. You are the expert in your videos. Film Mr. Expert with the appreciation he deserves. :)

      @@ChrisHagan And I really appreciated this video, by the way. After a lengthy year of camera research, at long last (about two months ago), I decided on the A74 for its extreme versatility, first-rate quality and overall performance; although, I'm still saving up for it. I was a little nervous about it having only two card slots instead of four, and I have probably watched every video about whether you can depend on it to not overheat. Hearing you say that this camera has never let you down is super encouraging.

      @@blueridgestops3128 It took recording for 35 minutes with the flip screen closed and a monitor and XLR attachment on the hot shoe to get an overheating warning, and I didn’t stop recording when I got the warning. Just opened the flip screen away from the body the warning went away. 45 minutes. No issue. Could’ve gone longer. It’s a great camera.

      At $1400 more! It also has the sensor protector shutter & in camera picture taking for focus stacking. With all the improvements in the newer AF systems, I was always joking about holding out on switching to mirrorless until they had Butterfly Eye AF because I do a fair bit of nature/macro. Guess what, the A7R5 does it. Anyway the A7IV is a great entry into the mirrorless or venturing into the Sony ecosystem at a decent price point. A lot of camera for the $$$.

    At this moment, the A7iv is pretty much dated and not a camera someone should pick up first if you are doing a lot of videos some photos, Fx3 or the cheaper Fx30. For stills, A7iii used would save you hundreds of dollars while allowing you to focus on lens.

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  Рік тому +2

      The FX30 would def be tempting for anyone who's video first (or only). I don't own an FX camera yet but I'm always jealous of video features on the body and not stuck in menus. But I think the A7IV still makes a strong case for true hybrid shooters because its photo specs are stronger than the FX30.
      The FX3 for sure would be better for what you described. But it's also considerably more expensive. Thanks for checking out the video too!
