You are absolutely hysterical. Definitely LOL’d at “roll the intro”
SAME
Great video... Your videos helped me decide on my Nikon Z system. I am not changing, that Sony might be a great camera and if I had unlimited income sure I might consider Sony. But I don't. And the Nikon Z works for me. But I did notice something in the video, and this is a compliment, no matter what camera or lens you showcase in a video your images look the same. Amazing! I think the one thing you should showcase more is your STYLE because no matter what camera your images look the same. You prove so many times, it's not just the gear but the photographer!
That's because he uses color cards to bring the colors to the same level regardless of the camera.
I bought the A7 IV recently and am happy I did so. The biggest factors for me were usability (new menu system, shoot mode dial, CAMSET files) and the mature and diverse lens options.
Hands down the worlds greatest intro!!!!! O' and the video ain't bad either, but seriously that intro was the bomb.
I'm so grateful for this intro. Really the best one
So refreshing to see you as an advocat of unbiased opinion, Omar. PS From a Sony and Fuji shooter - loving them both.
Can't we love them all...these Fujifilm fanboys!! We need more peeps like you.
Yes… The thing I love most about my A7iv & iii is not having to stress over perfect exposure. The raw files always bounce back perfectly 👌🏾
Very nice summary. Having used the A7M4 for 6 months I agree with most. However, I found the color tweaking not so straightforward. I'm grateful you're mentioning this point. My advice to anyone who's interested - be aware that for landscape photography with this camera you may require to do some serious color tweaking beyond "auto WB". It's better for people, snappy colors etc. But greens, browns, blues, greys (clouds in they sky) - they were challenging to work with for me.
I switched from fuji xt4 a year ago to the Sony A7 IV and although Fuji was good, I find the Sony A7 IV much more reliable in eye auto focus, tracking all kind of subjects, low light capabilities and not to mention a plethora of third party lenses available. The bigger sensor paired with a wide aperture lens make a big difference when pushing the ISO high. I've always shoot raw so colour science is not a deciding factor as I like to apply my own looks to my pictures. Plus a7iv video output is just beautiful. The fuji xt4 was a fantastic camera, but for my needs, I cannot see myself ever switching back to cropped sensor after Sony. Love my a7iv.
Same here. About to put the last remaining bits of Fuji gear up for sale. No turning back once you get a taste of reliable AF. Photography isn’t fun if you miss focus.
That’s the xt4, it’s a way different story when it comes to the XH2s.
Can’t go wrong with that full frame lowlight & noise handeling though. Cheers and best of wishes!
It's the autofocus that brings me to this juncture where I am contemplating whether to buy this and keep my Fuji XT-4, or trade-in the Fuji to get this plus a nice lens. Sad because I love the Fuji and we only get into arguments about the focusing in video, which is weak. The question now is whether I would miss the Fuji or not.
Oo you nailed the colour grading/lighting/framing on this video and I'm enjoying the green+grey colour combo 😄
It’s really a lovely camera, I’m bought one coming from Nikon dslr, started doing more video and I needed a better camera than the D500.
I just customised the control layout to be the same as the Nikon and it’s really made it super easy for me to transition.
as a person on team Fuji, I look forward to more content from you on this system
Hallelujah ! The truth!!!! Yes I shoot Fuji too BUT the Sony cameras are just easier, full frame (with all its creamy bokeh, low light glory and dynamic range) and autofocus mastery. Been shooting Sony at every level for 15 years and only just purchased the X100V which brought me to YOU!!! Love your work! Your attitude and HONESTY!!! The Fuji experience has been phenomenal, joyful time for me this year BUT Sony just does it!! My Sony cameras: a7SIII, FX3, a7C, a7III, a7S, RX1 & RX1R2 and F55 Fuji camera: X100V and love it...for fun. Ive learned a ton from you about all the Fuji gear. THANKS OMAR!!
Totally agree , Omar . Cameras are tools ha ha . Some more desirable than others , depending on personal preferences. My thing was and still is the em10 Mkii . Light , easy to carry and really lasts all day shooting . Like with all tools there are their strengths and weaknesses . So, to all those looking for perfection : it doesn’t exist; but those who know what they want and know where the best compromise is to fulfilling those needs ; then go for it.
Just love the videos Omar and the straight talking and no holds barred views . Until your next video - thanks once again and look forward to catching you again pretty soon.
Great video as always, Omar. Now just waiting for your a7iv setting video and copy that to mine that is still on its way to my home👍
i love your video sir. i have a7iv and xe4 fuji. love em both. if i want light and lazy to edit fuji is waving. when im shooting events and crazy kids a7iv is there for me. i need em both in my life lol 😅
Awesome video, I love my A7IV. Liked and subscribed and that intro is just perfect :)
I have the A7iv and 3x ZV-E10 for my podcast setup
I want to upgrade the looks, 4k and 60fps. Should I go for 3 more A7iv?
This is so reassuring. Yesterday, I traded my Nikon Z6 ii and lenses for an A7IV and two lenses. I’d rented the Sony 3 times just to make sure on my choice. The autofocus is pure witchcraft. The workflow was so much easier on the Sony. I’ll be shooting film on my Nikon F100 until the new gear arrives.
A7iv is a fantastic value proposition. I'm happy to see you spreading yourself around all the different cameras. Sony colors are definitely the weakest part of Sony cameras, but they're getting better.
I support Alex, ALWAYS shoot dark! haha great video as always
@Phillip Banes I don't doubt that the RX100V is outputting great colors, it's a great camera! It's one of their newer model cameras. As I mentioned, their newer cameras are getting better. It's native color profiles (if you don't shoot raw) that are weak in Sony. Also if you miss exposure, the red channel (and green channel) go wacky real quick when correcting exposures. 7:55 Omar discusses and shows examples of skin tones. If you're happy with your camera, ignore my comment and keep creating! Cheers.
An excellent and a well thought out analysis. Loved the video.
The best ‘roll intro’ so far. 😂😂😂
100% agree with the opening statement. Solid video
Omar! I love the intro! I was waiting for a b-roll! Haha 😅😂
I’m thinking about whether to get the A6700 or the A7IV. What holds me back from the A7IV is that I have quite a few lenses that are APS-C. Do you think I should take a big step and switch to the A7IV, or since I have more APS-C lenses, should I stick to the APS-C line and go for the A6700?
Yes Omar! This video came at the perfect time! I'm about to hit the Go Button and switch to the Sony system for my professional work. I'm going with the A7IV and decided the Sigma 24mm 1.4 Art and the Tamron 35-105 F2-F2.8 seems to be an absolute weapon of a lens, I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on the Tamron for wedding and event photography instead of the G Master 70-200 mkII.
That's the direction I'd go...lighter, more versatile. Check out Taylor Jackson's videos on shooting everything with that lens. Good luck!
@@ogonzilla Thank you! Great video BTW! It was Taylor's video where I first saw the Tamron being used on a wedding actually.
Thanks for the great video....honest and professional. I've been thinking of renting a Sony just to see how good the AF is...Keep bringing us the awesome content....
i can't really stress enough how much an improvement the video quality is between the a7iv and the a7iii. It's another level, and I'm sure that 10-bit color helps quite a bit. This camera however tends to be too sharp, so dial in the detail to at least -6 or ideally -7, and it also looks a lot more organic in certain situation if you can add a filter that will bloom the highlights a subtle amount.
Can you review the a7rv? Just traded my Xt5 for the Sony. Really like the Sony, but also missing those Fuji colors.
'Cameras are tools. They're not like sports teams...' Nailed it in one!
Another great video, plus the "roll intro" bit actually made me laugh out loud.
Top shelf content 🙂
I have a ton of cameras and I just love my A7iv for both photos and videos. It's my go to camera for my UA-cam thumbnails which is the highest praise from me. The video is great as well. I think Sony hit the ball out of the park with this one! Cheers.
I’ve seen SO MANY people switching to Sony lately from other brands (myself included). Even die hard Fuji fans can’t resist after getting just a taste of Sony AF. I’ve been using the A7iv for 6 months and I thrilled with the results. I probably should have switched a while ago, but I got there eventually. Great video Omar!!
Interesting. I just switched from sony to fuji. The X-h2s is great. Reliable Autofocus and nice fuji colors. But i understand why many would choose the sony. But for me i don't like to postprocess my fotos, so Fuji is still the best choice for that.
Uuhh no lol. Went FROM sony to fuji 😂
Sony af is not some mystical creature like people hype it up to be and fuji’s latest af tech is right there with them.
I would never switch to Sony^^
@@erik6678 I’ve been waiting for the xh2s for 4-5 years. But the price is what has open other options to me. Same 26mp as my xt2 and same price or even more expensive than some FF options (I don’t need the 40fps)….
@@gilcarag274 40fps isn’t the selling point lol, no one needs that. What makes that thing worth $2,500 is the fact that it’s out performing cinema cameras like the canon r5c in usable dynamic range by over 2 stops. It has 7 custom modes, a top subscreen, shoots 6k open gate, prores internal at up to 720mbps, Braw and ProRes raw external. 4k60 no crop, 4k120 and has essentially nonexistent rolling shutter. Any FF camera coming in with those specs is costing over $4500
"remember cameras are tools"
me getting as emotionally attached to my "tool" as to the praying mantises that I rescue near the cold end of autumn and die on my hands in winter:
Thank you for the best intro ever man!
two weeks I worked on that.
roll intro .. i just thought about chris pal2tech hahhahh funny omar ..hillarious
immediate G.A.S.
What do you recon ... how far apart is an X-h2s from this in terms of focus reliability?
Thanks for your work and keep up the good vibes.
I had the sony a7c (of course not the a7iv) and switched to the x-h2s, as i have a x100v and want to stick to one system.
From my experience the autofocus of the x-h2s is very good. But of course you will miss the touch tracking feature of the sony. With the fuji you can't use touch tracking in video mode. Besides that eye autofocus works fine.
@@erik6678 I had a little bit of a hands on in our local store just now, from a stills perspective I found the X-H2s was at least as good as the A7III. Of cause then there is the touch/ object tracking of the A7IV. But who knows what a firmware update might be able to do. But still, you could track an object with a half pressed shutter in stills mode. For sure there are a lot of things still to explore and test.
I didn't even know you had this camera for sometimes. I thought you were fully hooked on Fuji and trying Canon mirrorless. But I am happy that you are still trying all the systems.
Hooked on photography, baby. ;)
Hi Omar. I follow your channel from the very first time I use fuji. I used xe, xt, xs, xh,... and find some struggles when focusing, noise and raw editing.
And as a fuji lover, i tried to move to GFX, the GFX 50sii, which is a totally wrong choice for my needed. I sold it 3 months later.
Then move to a7iv. I totally happy with it. The best focusing i've ever use. I just need to think about the composition. The noise is ok with me. The raw editing also ok. Its jpeg is awesome, very trendy but I still miss the fuji color 😁. The most feature that i miss from fuji is the display review images. I can continue shot on evf but when i need to see review image, i just need to look on LCD. I cannot find this useful feature on Sony.
Just want to share my thought and experience. Thank you so much for all the things you did in this channel 😁
I found color in the A74 better than past Sony's. I use a color checker passport to create color profiles. Works for me. For Fuji colors....use a cheap, old, used Fuji!
Another great video, thanks Omar
Hmm. That intro tho. Has someone been watching 'Camera Conspiracies' ? 😂
Can you discuss about Sony creative style vs picture profile in relation to photography. Which affects RAW and which acts like Fuji film simulation?
Fuji film simulation just effect jpg. you can produce that color after by raw and software (lightroom,...)
Sony picture profile just for video. slog2 slog3, s cinetone.
Sony creative style is very similar fujfilm simulation but it doesnt have much funtion like fujifim. ony efect JPG file
for ex
Classic Chrome
Dynamic Range: DR200
Highlight: +2 (High)
Shadow: +1 (Medium-High)
Color: -1 (Medium-Low)
Sharpness: 0 (Medium)
Noise Reduction: -2 (Low)
White Balance: Auto, +1 Red & -2 Blue
ISO: Auto up to ISO 3200
sony doesn't have Classic chrome, Highlight and Shadow. any thing else sony does have. sony creative style:standard, Vivid,..similar Provia or Velvia (color doesn't match)
fujifim have separate menu for film simulation. sony doesn t have.
lightroom have Sony creative style color for sony raw file. I am not sure it's match jpg=))
Wow. Awesome in depth reply. Thanks so much ❤
Great video Omar. I agree with you - I’m patiently waiting for the Z6iii. Hoping the autofocus is close to that of the A7 series. I may even go for the rumored upcoming Z8.
I use a Z6ii right now and love it - but the autofocus is definetly not as good as the A7iii that I used last year. The color science and RAW processing of the A73 just never satisfied me.
Appreciate the time you take to make these videos for us. Peace
The only thing is you don’t know how long the wait for the z8 is going to be. What I like with Sony is the level of customisation.
@Phillip Banes in perfect lighting conditions it was alright - but if you were shooting outdoors in harsh lighting or dark shadows - the Sony skin tones would always seem alittle “off”. Im not sure the technical terms - but in these same conditions - the Z6ii is giving me much better images. I shot with 35mm 1.4 GM and 85mm 1.4 ART when I had the A7iii.
@@gilcarag274 true, but I’m fine using the Z6ii meanwhile. I’ve adapted to its autofocus tendencies. I thought the A7iii autofocus was awesome - I’m sure the A7iV feels like cheat codes
As always very good video. Thank you.
LOVE the A7iv!! Agree with everything you said..which Godox flash are you using with it for your events?? Be well and thank you!!!
Godox 860ii
@@ogonzilla Thank you for answering.. NOW to get as GOOD as your shots...LOL
Coming from Nikon professionally I've used the Z6ii and still own a D850 but I jumped ship last year and also use a Sony A7R IV and the A7 IV. To be honest I gravitate towards the A7 IV more than any other assignment. Maybe the Z6 iii is closer now.
that intro was sick! you have outdone your self.
I just picked up the 70-200 GM 2……you need that lens Omar…..do it,go get it,you’ll love it…..😍😍
I'm all about small and light. :) Canon 70-200 in the bag just in case.
@@ogonzilla they don’t come any lighter than that lens.Hope you enjoy the a7iv.😁
Isn't only for the RF lenses? You can still use 3rd party lenses with a adapter. Or am I missing something
Hi Omar!
Do you encounter any eyelash / front focus with the a7iv?
Thank you
My best photography camera. I love it. Thanks for your video on flash ( Do THIS to soften your FLASH when doing wedding, event, or club photography!). I am having excellent results since. 10/10
AWESOME. So glad to help.
Aside from the slow sensor readout, yes, it’s ideal in a lot of ways. I’ve got two.
Absolutely true. Thanks Omar!
Omar,
What about the over heating during video, do you think Sony will fix that?
Hey Omar, thanks a million for this. This is the kind of review that I've been waiting for. I have been using my Canon 80D for the longest time, but since I've started shooting events I have been seeing limitations and been struggling a bit in low light.
Have been wanting to upgrade for a while now and Sony has been on the top of my list. The reasons that you have pointed out, i can relate. I guess it's the A7 IV for me.
Thanks again and keep rocking 🤘🏼.
Don't get Sony. The colours are not good. Better stick with Canon.
@@digitalfilmreviews7843 As much as I love Canon, the systems seem expensive to me here in the UAE. And I use a grey card for my shoots so for colors, I do put my own spin on it. The reason why I wanted the sony was for the low light capability and auto focus especially for event photography. Would like to get your opinion on the newer Canon systems to see if they compare and if so which one would you recommend.
@@muneermajeed7539 Canon are more expensive because the cameras are built better and to last. Canon (and Nikon) have been making cameras for however many decades while Sony only recently started. You will see recent videos where people switch to Canon from Sony because the Sony camera lasts only two years. So in the long run Canon is cheaper. The new Canon cameras can autofocus extremely well in low light, so that is not issue. R6 mkii and R5 are amazing cameras that will last the distance.
how does the colors and working with the raw files (latitude) compared between the Sony A7MK4 and Z6III?
Sony should make a a7IVa with that a7RV Display and this camera would truly be perfect. I even love the colours it produced out of cam jpg with the picture styles FL and IN. Absolutely the best camera for hybrid shooting.
Hello Omar! Great video again (stated this one year ago!). Looked in the comments and didn't found anything. How do you compare the A9 vs A7IV in terms of autofocus for your event work?
I have the A7iii and since i'm doing more events (baptisms mostly) i'm looking for a second camera and looking on these two.
Greetings from Portugal!
Both!
Ditching Nikon for Sony? How would you feel about using the X-H2s for your pro work?
I love the Intro!!
hi omar
would you mind talking a little more about the color science differences between nikon and sony? have you ever tried opening your sony files in capture one instead and noticed whether it helps colors look more natural compared to lightroom?
What I've noticed is the A74 is much improved over the A7III when it comes to skin tones.
Would you please ask Tamron for a 35-150 lens review unit and try it out? Thanks Omar.
How’s it compare the function and images from XT5
Best intro on UA-cam.
Hello Omar, I really liked your videos because I have this color problem on my Sony A7 four I can not see colors well contrasted as on your photos to you how can I download your profile to have the same thing as you thank you in advance
Ciao amico mio. You are the only one who notices that Sony's strength is not so much the reliability of the AFC, but the practicality of its use. Two other things about the A7M4 that nobody talks about are: the possibility of seeing with the flash mounted on the hot shoe the actual exposure of the environment, with the other machines you have to turn off the flash. And, in the video field, in addition to switching instantly with the appropriate dial, regardless of the priority set by the PASM dial, you can independently manage the exposure triad with a combination of dials and buttons. So you can work in video with priorities and automatisms different from photos, without having to change the PASM dial from time to time
I wish Fuji would make an affordable compact full frame camera similar to the A7C from Sony. That would be an instant buy for me.
so good i might buy another
I love my fuji and Sony. They get along great 😁 Wish the Sony had that quieter shutter like Fuji
I have the original Z6 and I have been thinking of switching to the Sony for SO LONG now and you're making it harder for me! I love the handing of the Z6, but I'm a little tired of the FTZ adapter for most of my lenses, and keep hearing praise for the Sony. I think I'm going to wait until I hear of some of the lens developments in 2023, and see what comes of the Z6 line.
Buy native lenses it’s cheaper than switching.
Love your intro! I also have the A7IV, what a great camera :)
Curious what you use for processing raw files, specifically for the Nikon Z cameras. Struggling a bit with the 7Z2 files in Bridge/ PS ACR. I want to love my Z72 but there's so much I love on the Fuji XT4.
Damn, son! Me too! I shoot weddings full time, had different camera systems, made them all work, and then for the final three shoots used a Sony A7iv and boy oh boy. This camera is a beast. But a loving beast. A beast that wants you to do well.
...that kind of beast.
Well said, man. :)
roll intro...(1 second intro)...i like this guy
I love your intro 😂
I want this camera desperately !!!
Another great video! Can you do a video of this Sony camera vs Nikon Z6 II? Comparing picture quality, video, colors, editing, etc
it's on the list!
I have a bunch of Fuji cameras, and an X-T5 was shipped to me today. I love Fuji. But my Sony a7IV is the most reassuring camera I've owned. The ergonomics are great - the chunky grip, the perfect operation of the buttons, etc. The camera feels thoughtfully designed and well manufactured. The AF is great. The EVF looks good. Operational speed is snappy. Battery life is great. The camera can be extensively customized. The dual-use card slot #1 is welcome. The ports (and covers) are well designed - including the solid, full-size HDMI. The files are good to work with. The lens selection is terrific. I really have no complaints about the a7IV. The camera is well worth the money. I added a SmallRig base plate, which is excellent.
Why did you get an X-T5 then? Just curious.
@@marvellous9652 Because I like the Fuji system too, and I have a bunch of Fuji lenses. The X-T3 was a favorite, and the X-T5 seems like a great update. Also, the X-T5 with APS-C lenses is smaller & lighter than the Sony a7IV - sometimes an advantage.
And what do you think about the new Fuji cameras: xh2, xh2s, xt5? Do you think they are at the same level than Sony, specially in auto focus? Thanks!
I would like to know too!
I shoot with Nikon Z7ii & I have been asking for 2 years why you cannot assign minimum shutter speed to a button when in auto iso? Why in continuous auto focus do you not get a green box to confirm focus or am I missing something?
Nice review. Have you used the A7R4? If so, how would it compare (aside from the new menu system)
Hey Omar, we ‘ve “talked” in the past, about my lowlight issue, working especially in nightclubs, shooting candids with motion.. I still rely on my D750, but I’m tired of waiting Nikon z6iii or sth… I think you made it easier for me.. Do you believe the Sony a7iv is the upgrade from the D750 that I’m waiting for?
Only YOU will know. 100 times faster but make sure you try it first. mirrorless takes a little getting used to.
Sounds like the A7IV is a nice camera. And even though a camera is just a "tool" I don't think people necessarily have to switch out their entire system just because another manufacturer has raised the bar on certain features in a new model. Their current system most likely will come out with a similar model. The different camera makers usually leap frog each other in product development over time.
It may be a different situation for photographers who do a lot of paid work and the new camera really helps them out in a concrete way.
I'm using Sony A7RIVA, A6600, Nikon ZFC, Z6ii and Fujifilm XS10, XH2. Thinking to get the A7IV for more versatile hybrid use haha.
You're crazier than me with the cameras!
Intro was 🔥🔥
I love Nikon/Canon and using both as armature . But I will go for Sony if I'd do it as professional.
HMMMMMMMMMMMmmMmMmm. I've rented the A7IV and liked it, but lately, I've been leaning toward Nikon z6ii mostly because I think it's a much better value, so it's interesting to hear you tout the value angle. I can get z6ii at B&H right now for $600 less than an A7IV - that's not chump change. What is it about the A7iv that makes you believe it's worth that extra 6 Benjamins and still qualifies as a good value by comparison?
OUTSTANDING Intro !!! 👍😅
Near the end of the video this rang in my mind: All I want is the perfect camera
Omar, great video, as usual. In the sample (wedding?) photos that you showed, did you use flash? If not, what ISO and speed did you use? Thanks!
Hy Omar, great video! I just get this camera a month ago and it seems amazing as an upgrade from my D750. Only problem for now is: what speedlight with TTL to buy suitable mainly for indoor like weddings but sometimes for portrait session in outdoor?! Not sure about the supposed weakness of the hotshoe insertion of the V1 for example. Guessing if it's the same with the 860III, or if V350S is lacking power. . I saw some Sony and I think it's too expensive at the moment for me!!! Any suggestions very appreciated, Keep it up!
So...I actually recommend the CANON version of the Godox V860ii (not the iii). I made a video on why. Problem is no TTL. BUT...I broke too many Sony ones due to that hotshoe. ua-cam.com/video/P2PufRXRPiY/v-deo.html
@@ogonzilla thank you man!!
I've got an X-T2 (X-T5 hopoefully in a few days) and I bought it when I started with photography four years ago because it was recommended to me in the store where I bought it. With what I know now I would probably buy a Sony as it's indeed the better camera with more lenses. Now I'm in the Fuji ecosystem and I'm not going to sell 7 lenses just so I can shoot with a slightly better camera. Moreover, the (full frame) Sony lenses are by no means cheap. But most importantly, the X-T2 is fun to shoot, I'm not sure if I would say the same about the A IV.
Em..."slightly better?" lol...
3rd party is great on Sony and quite a bit cheaper a lot of the time. But Fuji is getting there as well... Everyone is really, except Canon R. Nikon Z is just waiting for it and they have a couple (rumored to be) rebranded Tamron lens designs in their current line up.
Every system has its pros, even Canon R, but the latter definitely rides a thin line between being good on hardware and frustrating on user experience / support regarding the eco system.
You can’t be sure before trying 😁
@@ogonzilla Eum, I'm not sure what's funny about this comment. Yes, I think the A7 IV is only slightly better than the X-T5. This is also reflected in the price. If Sony is really lightyears ahead of Fuji, Fuji wouldn't have had any business.
@@Optidorf Did you get the X-T5? I had both and I can tell you it is not "slightly better". Damm, the A7IV is significant better. But those improvements can be ignored in most of my case of shooting.
The roll intro made me laugh out loud 🤣
Best intro. . . ever.
If I'm designing a dream Sony camera... a7c with a better menu system, and basically trade the screen for a better EVF. Small rangefinder-style body with a great EVF would be a sweet camera.
Quite interesting to hear your point of view having listened to Nick Page who is dumping his Sony kit.
Great video as usual, but let’s talk about the intro, a little long😉 but awesome. Keep up the great work !
Fuji user here. I intend to pick a sony for tha job and let the fujis for tha fun, thanks omar
Good choice!
That intro is perfect 😀
Roll Intro!!! Hilarious!!
