Ditched my Glock for this Steyr. Far superior in my own opinion . Ears everything I feed it , even cheap steel cases ammo . The sights work flawlessly , easy to acquire ! Worth every penny !
Once you get used to the distance of the reset it becomes a non issue. Same goes for the grip angle and the trap sights. They are truly excellent pistols. Nice review.
I'm glad you mentioned the reset because I picked this up to dry fire it at the store the other day, and I wasn't sure about the reset of the trigger. It wasn't tactile at all, but the gun felt so good in my hands. I can't remember which back strap was on there, but I'm thinking it was small because the handgun felt a little top heavy. I haven't shot it yet, but I will soon. Nice review.
Thanks, as with any firearm it's just a matter of spending enough time with it to get good at it. Some folks really want to feel reset, this gun would not be good for them, but if you can do without it this is a great gun.
There's no need to 'find the reset' when shooting targets. You don't see snipers finding the reset. You find the wall, and that's it. Get the finger off the bang switch, and find the wall
Nobody in a gunfight ever felt a tactile reset.
Thanks for the video. Steyr M Series, another Wilhelm Bubits design. I just verified the trapezoid sights you like are Bubits' design and original patent.
Just an FYI, I had the same problem of hitting to the left with my brand new M9 A2 MF. When I looked closely at the rear sight, I noticed it was slightly too far left in its dovetail. I drifted it to the right (and basically centered it on the slide) and that cured the problem. If you’re interested, here’s my review. BEST gun reviews on the UA-cam! Your lack of macho posery is SO refreshing! And I am SO lucky that my first handguns were double-action revolvers: I never even knew that "reset" was a thing! My index fingers simply learned to go all the way forward for the next trigger pull, never expecting the trigger to push my finger forward. I was never trying to get the FASTEST next shot off, or worrying WHERE the reset was; I was just trying for the smoothest trigger pull from finger all the way forward. And I shoot semiautos the same way, FORGETING about reset and automatically extending the finger all the way for each shot. Try it? By the way, I am SO HAPPY that Steyr handguns are finally getting the attention they deserve! I bought my M9 back around 2005, and still can't find anything I want more....................elsullo
Thanks for going in-depth with this gun. I really enjoy your various tests and the way you give a great overall picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the gun. I have the M9-A2 and I love it. I wish it got more love. Fingers crossed Steyr will soon offer an optics-ready slide and make the different frames available (after all, it's supposed to be the 'original' modular design). Keep up the great content!

I own an M40 first generation and it is a awesome pistol shoots more like a 9mm. Accuracy was not a problem

Nice review! I like the look of that one a lot. I have seen the sights and they look like they could be something after you got used to them and they were sighted in.

Love the way my C9 A1 shoots! Yes, the trigger reset is soft but what I did was ignore trying to feel it and just let my finger fall out to the average reset point of my striker fired pistols. It works, but I haven’t tried anything super speedy yet.
The grip angle is extreme but I don’t have the same trouble I had with my (happily departed) Glock 19. I think it may have to do with that forward “undercut” where the web of the hand goes. It makes you break the wrist forward and the angle gives an amazingly good and natural feeling place to rest the off hand over the strong hand (I hope that made sense).
I like the gun but it may be going as I discovered the joy of the Polymer80 PFC9 yesterday. This is a terrific pistol at a reasonable price for people who don’t like Glocks with pretty awesome fit and finish that I think you two should look at, Graham. Seems to have almost as good a fit in the slide parts as my Agency but with a better, less mushy feeling trigger. It’s a Syndicate so it’s what you’d have to call “an entry level Agency” but it’s a terrific shooter. I’ll expect the P80 to shoot well but maybe not be quite as accurate.

I just bought the C9-A2 and really like it. This gun takes some time because of your position downward to control. But when you get it working for you it’s much faster to acquire your target because you do not get a lot of rise.
I have the C9 -A2 and it feels amazing in the hand. The trap sites are easy to get used to

I just got the same gun out of layaway today.cant wait to shot it.its a little on the strange looking side.may not ever buy another one but I will never sell mine.its a keeper for sure.just because I like unique looking guns.

Couple months ago I did a head to head comparison and my S9-A1 shot better than my CZ Sp-01.
I just bought a Steyr M9 A2 yesterday, it was between it and a CZ SP01.
The price and simpler design were the deciding factors for me.
I wonder as a man who has both, would you purchase the CZ SP01 again, knowing what you do now?
I ask because I still kinda want an SP01-Tactical.

The lack of discernible reset is endemic to a pistol with the trigger bar that rides below everything else whereas on most pistols, it rides above everything else. So I wonder if that prevents trigger bar from having the leverage on trigger shoe to give it a firm, discernible reset. It’s an awesome pistol though. Enough training and it will not be an issue.

For someone who is not shooting often or who does not have a lot of guns, I always find you two to be so pleasant to watch. Your explanations are easy to follow even by me. You both have excellent understanding of your audience. It is great entertainment. However, the bird shot a bit low. I know it was aiming for the open chamber. How the heck do they do that while in flight? Wonder what "grain" ammo it was using?
I have seen seagulls aiming very accurately, swerving for the dive bomb, and expertly considering the strong coastal wind drift element! They are SMART!......................elsullo
Ive owned G-19's Gens 3, 4 & 5...Have had 2 Steyr Gen 1's...1 with Trapezoidal sights & 1 with regular dot sights...I don't get hung up on "crisp reset" as much as others...up until the last 5 years, it wasn't every really as big a "thing" as it its seems it is now (in my opinion)...Just picked the olive green A2 & think its a masterpiece...The reset is felt enough where it doesn't effect me & the non audible reset is a moot point being that Im shooting with ear protection & if I weren't, my ears would be ringing like a bell anyway. Don't know if I could feel any reset with gloves but dont shoot with gloves so... One of the smoothest sweetest flattest shooting guns Ive ever owned.. Its def my go-to. Sights are acquired taste but I love em. Great Review guys!!!
Crisp reset is important to those who shoot from the reset. If you don't then reset doesn't matter.

I know this is a bit of an unusual request, but is there any way you could do a what's for dinner on the Kahr CW9? You did a range review a number of years ago, but it wasn't part of the review. Maybe you could consider it a chapter two or a revisited range review. Thanks for listening.
Now the second comment... The trigger should not be a problem, and is beneficial in that it is making you operate how things would be normally in close combat. In actual combat situation, at pistol range, you will not feel the trigger reset; consciously at least. I never had issue with that; why is that I learned on double action S&W revolvers. You can develop a muscle memory for the right position with some precision to it.
To explain in detail with a double action you must pull the trigger right to the point before it breaks and hold a split second for both precise shooting and developing an instantly ready hold situation. This applies to modern pistols too when the gun is cocked you need to develop an ability to put pressure on the trigger right up to the point of the break, hold it for a split second while you get your aim, or give the bad guy warning. You might want to purchase a Mdl.19 - and a Mdl 27... or one of the French MR73... get a 5" barrel. Why is the trigger is really the best of any I have felt and it is half way in size between a Mdl.19 and 27. Then practice this rapid pull and hold, until you are good enough to bet Graham's life on it... never bet your own.
Why is the muscle tension application in holding the pull or finishing the pull, in the trigger operation, means for less jerk of the gun and time response. It's like you finger is preprogramed to the pull movement

The Steyr M9 is almost a great handgun. It needs improvement, I agree. Great potential though.
No Graham sorry it's you... it's always the shooters fault... near at least... exception being out fumbling the Grand Power field strip assembly-disassembly! Oh... a twofer, I get a told you so on the triangle sights... except you don't really need the rear one... but if you must put a contrasting small round tritium / fiberoptic on the rear.... making sure it shows smaller fit inside the triangle!
I have about 500 rounds through mine it's a nice flat shooter but overall I prefer my GP Q1

Quit complaining about the reset. You’re doing it WRONG! You should be resetting and prepping the trigger during recoil NOT once the gun has settled and you’ve reacquired your sight picture. Ask any competition shooter. If you did it the way I described you wouldn’t even notice the soft reset cuz during recoil you don’t feel the reset, it just happens.
I'm sorry, I thought this was my channel. 😄The method you describe works fine when you know where the reset is and have lots of practice with a gun. This is a Shooting Impressions video and our first time to the range with the gun.
Is the M9A2 suitable for CCW or should I opt for S9A2? I prefer a multi function weapon so I’m leaning towards the M9A2. My Glock 22 is just to big for effective CCW. Texas doesn’t restrict to CCW as open carry is fully legal with LTC.
Actually, Steyr does not offer a S9 model in the new A2 family….. the C2 is the smallest model optimal for ccw …..
Looks like Ms. Tia is processing this sight picture a little better than Mr Baates is, on this particular gun.

We haven't tried the L9. There may be sights out there for it.
While everyone is coming out with RDS options this pistol does not. This platform can fit well in the competitive market but they need to provide three en user with a mounting system

Graham, your GX4 chamber support test was alarming to me. I like Taurus, but thinking of skipping the GX4 after your report. What is your feeling on the GX4?
We got a bad barrel. They replaced it with a better one. There is still some primer flow as part of the breech face design, but not as scary as what we had at first. This is why we test EVERY pistol like that in our tabletop videos.
Personally I prefer not to carry barrels under 4" unless there is no other option.

I know from experience that Oregon seagulls can consciously swerve and AIM their dive bombs accurately, calculating for the wind drift! Never pretend you are going to toss anything at a passing gull---they will make a "pre-emptive tactical strike" on you without a sound. It is probably FUN too!...............................elsullo

Yeah one of my good buddies has a C9-A2 MF that he let me hold on to for a few weeks. It is an impressively made pistol, very robust, and unique for a polymer striker fired 9mm. The trigger had a nice break, but it’s a bit too wishy-washy. I want a trigger that lets me know where it stands from the start. Also, as many people know Steyr sued Sig over patent infringement for their modular chassis system. I don’t think Steyr had a case; mainly because it appears they designed their chassis systems more for the assembly and engineering of the pistol, not the end user.
The dust covers for the C, M, & L are all different lengths, so you would have to buy the corresponding slide to go with it. Aren’t all the same grip length and capacity? The least modular “modular framed” mfers I’ve ever seen. Also never saw Steyr really promoting the modularity on the A1 series. The A1 series was also priced more affordably than the A2. Granted, currently everything is more expensive.
A Sig M357 A1 chambered in .357 Sig would be pretty sweet since the grip angle and mass of slide gives the shooter leverage to keep the pistol very flat. Think that would be most evident shooting calibers that have some oomph.

I saw only ONE fixed sight gun capable of perfect hits on cigarette pack at fifteen meters, and it was a Taurus model 80, the cheapest 38 SPL model from Taurus.
All other fixed sights revolvers I fired had some kind of machining error (chief's special, sig p 220, colt 32 SWL, Taurus 82, among many others).

@@GBGuns Winchester super clean 90gr and the norma 100gr to start. Really don't where to start looking the sites I frequent only have 115and 124 and sometimes 147gr.

What has kept me from buying this gun is that I imagine there is zero aftermarket support for it.
You imagine wrong! There is always somebody to answer email or phone calls. They even used to send parts on request, if it was some easy fix. They do have an American workshop for repair work IF any is ever needed. Steyr service gets good comments on the member messageboard, SteyrClub.com .............................elsullo
I don’t understand why people are so stuck on a hard reset you should not be shooting a gun in situations that require you to feel for the reset ..
