    Thank you, Graham, for this video. 17 April 2024, I picked up the piece at my local range/FFL. The MC14G84 becomes my second .380, the other is a Ruger Security-380 (which is amazing). Even though I'm a big, strapping septuagenarian (6'4" and 275 lbs.) and ex-wrestling coach, arthritis has done a number on my left thumb. All of my 9mm's were chosen based upon their ability to limit perceived/felt recoil (and they do so with aplomb), hence my venture into the .380 world. Thank you for your service, my brother.

      Thank you. When it comes to recoil mitigation, if you're looking into 380 I'd suggest something with a locked breech rather than blowback. This gun is blowback, but with enough spring and frame weight that it's not as punishing as many others.

    I’m a 380 fan … recently purchased a Ruger Security 380 .. replaced the RSA with a +10 .. which increases the effort in racking the slide , but still very easy to do … but it lowers the recoil impulse even more …amazing pistol… basically the size of a 26 .. but is lighter, due to the machine work on the slide..
    I own two other 380’s both Rugers also a LCP & LCP MAX
    The LCP is my office firearm, being it has to be totally concealed.
    The MAX is carried more during the summer months..
    I use the same ammo in all of them
    Winchester FNFMJ & Underwood XTP
    All function perfectly in these pistols which is the most important criteria
    1.Functioning
    2. Accuracy
    3. Penetration

    As you mention, it is a good looking pistol. I have occasionally lusted after the similar Beretta through the years but never bought one. As far as the use of .380ACP as a defensive round, I say any round is better than no round ( no gun ). I have used a .32ACP several times in my life and still own a very nice little Llama that I bought so long ago I can't remember exactly when I got it. I do usually carry 9MM or .45ACP. Even with the shorter barrel I want that big fat "flying ashtray" on hand if I ever need it.
    Good video, as always.

    I love my new 2024 GLOCK G25 Gen3 .380acp. 4.02" barrel, same size as the G19, 15 round magazines, 17 rd mags coming soon.
    Mine special ordered in OD Green.
    Its a years old model, sold in Europe and South America. Now made here in Georgia ( not Russia).
    .380acp was invented in 1908, and saw service in 2 World Wars (CZ). And for you caliber chest beaters, just think of the .380acp as 9x17mm or 9mm kurz.
    That test pistol looks like a baby Beretta 92. Never my cup of tea. At less than 350.oo it would be a great companion for 92 hipsters.
    Cheers pistol mates✌️

    Excellent range review. For the price you get a nice 380 pistol. I, use to carry a 380 as a secondary pistol however I now carry a 9MM or 40 as my secondary pistol.
    I, believe the 380 is a good pistol round for those that prefer this round.
    You're comment on imports is spot on. Girsan manufactures some well made classy pistols.
    We wish you and Teya a great day 🙏. Thank you again for sharing your videos.

    The Girsan MC14G84 & BDA take the Berreta .380 clips flawlessly. Loaded with hollow points (some which expand, others do not because of velocity), giving a good mix of penetration and expansion. Very good gun for women and seniors.

    Nice little gun, Graham. I would love one. Unfortunately, in Australia, semi-auto pistols have a 5-inch barrel limit and revolvers a 4 inch barrel limit for club use. I guess we should be happy we can have them.

      Harder to conceal is the main goal with those 'brilliant' laws. But we got at least exceptions based on certain disciplines. Usually at 4'' for sport automatic and mope than 3'' for revolvers. I'd love a bobbed hammer snubby. Still glad it isn't as bad as in the uk. They add ultra long barrels and some rod on the funnel to get around some restriction and use 23-24 round .22lr pistols. I think the barrel has 12'', like a can all the time sticking out.

    Graham, is it possible that UA-cam is engaging in shenanigans with this video? When is the last time you had a video with so few views after 2-3 weeks? This one doesn't appear in either of my GBGuns subscriptions, yet I accessed it from the recommendations in my account. Great handgun like this should have hundreds of views by now, given the quality of your episodes and loyal following.

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  8 місяців тому +3

      No, this video isn't public yet. I upload videos days, weeks, sometimes months in advance as "unlisted" meaning they can only be accessed via link. I then share them to Patrons, then put them in the articles on GBGunsDepot.com, then slowly I make them "public" for the general UA-cam audience. You foudn this one because it's in a playlist. This video won't be "public" until sometime mid-May.

    380 is still a good enough round for defense type scenarios. Though it is a bit lacking in solid barrier penetration but so is 45acp. Speed is everything when it comes to overall performance.

  • @just-dl
    @just-dl 15 днів тому

    Love it. Agree about the decocker. I like the idea of decocker and safety but I know that’s not everyone’s jam. .380 is a good carry/defense round. Over penetration is one reason. In a defense situation, I’d rather change the course of a bad guys life than end it. I’m ready/willing/able to use lethal force. Would rather not. This Girsan is attractive. Assuming it’s modeled on a beretta. My initial impression is that the third “entre” at dinner was the best/fave. Going to go back to rewatch that. It’s been a minute but curious if you recall which round you liked better than the rest? Thank you.

    I live in an urban environment so a 380 is desired do to lack of exit wounds. A 380 often will not penetrate the clothing on the backside.
    If a hollow point fails to expand in a more powerful caliber it will exit. As many UA-camrs have discovered hollow point expansion is not guaranteed. It also might cause under penetration. We also do not know how much energy is lost expanding a bullet.
    14 hits is a lot of stopping power and holes…

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz 8 місяців тому +1

      380 has a purpose and some solid history behind it, and No, I'm not volunteering to be on the receiving end of one, but remember...
      All conventional handgun calibers are the products of compromise. A 9, a 40, a 357 (sig or mag), a 45, and even a 10 are all hopeful products dependent upon causing direct tissue damage rarher than the massive wound channels encouraged by hydrostatic shock that a rifle caliber will reasonably do.
      9mm often (usually) does not smash major bone, I've seen firsthand people survive multiple 9mm hits...a few of them even continued (I'm LE) the fight.
      So, a lighter and slower version?
      No thank you. Definitely better than a pointy stick, but frankly the limitations would have to be highly specific to choose a .380.

    For many years my EDC was a post war Mauser HSc that I bought new at the Rod & Gun Club in Bamberg Germany. Like many NCOs I knew I often carried a pistol in violation of regulations. I served 6 years in Germany in two tours from 1978-1986. This was a time of active terrorist activity in Europe and many of us preferred to have some means of fighting back should the need arise. We could picture Bader-Meinhof or some other bad actors straffing a convoy on the Autobahn or just attacking US personnel wherever they were found. Our first tour in Germany the temporary quarters my family and I were to stay in for 3 days just before we returned to the US, were bombed the night before we were to move out of our govt quarters and into temporary quarters. The threat of terrorist activity was very real. But my wife (then a member of the Army Reserve) and I had decided before going to Germany that we would not raise our children in fear of radical A-holes. After I was medically retired in 1986 and we returned to the World. I got a CCW and that HSc was my EDC until I replaced it with a Taurus 85CH and then a S&W 442. In the US I always loaded it with Winchester Silver Tips. By the way I also have a Browning BDA and a Berreta 81 that I converted to 380 with a BDA barrel I purchased from Gun Parts.

    Cute little Beretta copy. But...
    Meh. No. A blowback .380 the size of a 9mm compact and it's made by Girsan.
    If you absolutely insist on a .380, go find a CZ83 or a Browning Black Label...or just skip it and get a real Beretta on the used market.
    The CZ and Browning are more concealable and the Browning is eminently more controllable than a blowback. There's no side by side comparison, but I expect the CZ is also more shootable.
    Granted, all are out of production, but a used one of any of these is more trustworthy and more re-sellable than ANYTHING I've seen Girsan produce.

    I like watching all your content, but there is one area I do not agree with. Shooting right out of the box. We should not assume that the factory that is churning these guns out at really fast pace is going to take the time to clean out all the little metal bits and manuf. assy. grease ( 2 of my Taurus pistols) . EVERY person investing hundreads-Thousands of dollars in something you depend on to save your life , should know how to field strip, ( like you show in every video) , and give the gun a basic clean and lube. And shooting a gun DRY can't be good to have dry metal on metal , with NO oil. Ok, I'm done, climbing down off my soap box. Thank you for your support.
