This is why I love JD Vance and find that he is very genuine @ 1:50 - 2:20 he admits he was frustrated with his mom during her recovery. As someone who has been in the depths of abuse, I’ll tell you for certain your loved ones, by the time YOU yourself have finally had enough and want to get sober, you look at it as a great thing, however your loved ones have lived with a monster (a monster they love, but still an addictive personality monster) for a long time and they are tired and frustrated with you. It seems sort of bully childish that they just decided to call him weird & then made a bunch of weird memes about him. Sometimes I attribute some of his super intellegence to being a little autistic and his sense of humor tends to be a little stiff. But overall he has spent at least his first 22 years of his life struggling more than the average American....poverty, addiction, being raised by grandma, questioning religion and coming back to it, etc. I like to think he can relate to us...and hopefully he doesn't look at us and think, I made it out, why can't you. But I suspect he still has enough ties to his humble beginnings that he sees how hard it is to just survive, let alone excel.
