Sometimes I attribute some of his super intellegence to being a little autistic and his sense of humor tends to be a little stiff. But overall he has spent at least his first 22 years of his life struggling more than the average American....poverty, addiction, being raised by grandma, questioning religion and coming back to it, etc. I like to think he can relate to us...and hopefully he doesn't look at us and think, I made it out, why can't you. But I suspect he still has enough ties to his humble beginnings that he sees how hard it is to just survive, let alone excel.

As someone who has been in the depths of abuse, I’ll tell you for certain your loved ones, by the time YOU yourself have finally had enough and want to get sober, you look at it as a great thing, however your loved ones have lived with a monster (a monster they love, but still an addictive personality monster) for a long time and they are tired and frustrated with you. Being the child of an alcoholic is awful. I’m glad JD came through this so well and I’m glad he went to meetings to understand his mom better. My dad was a mean alcoholic. I got married at 16. Went through 4 more after that. Didn’t use drugs but would binge drink occasionally, especially during my time in the Army. Finally, after I became a grandma at 46, I started serious therapy. I am doing well. My oldest grandkids are in college, and the youngest is a star baseball player in school. If I hadn’t gotten help, and let go of my hate for my dad, and let compassion in, I wouldn’t be here with those amazing kids.

His story is amazing! My brother was an addict. 😢 Sadly, addiction won...😢😢
He is an awesome advocate for the victims of addiction! JD Vance, we are so to call you our VP! ❤❤❤❤

Wow, I had no idea we had such similar experiences growing up. He spoke so intelligently about the struggle of his childhood. I think he even changed a bit how I see my own now. Seems like a great man.
