She worked from high school until one of the attorneys at the law firm she worked at asked if she would consider going to law school. She went to night law school after working all day. She passed each class and finally the bar exam the first time in 1964. My mother worked in the private sector and eventually took a position with the Veterans Administration in adjudication. She worked tirelessly for 34.5 years HELPING veterans get the benefits they earned serving our country!!! She’s earned her eternal reward now, but I am ever so proud of my Mama!

@@bhazerelli7611 Well, it's nothing about him personally. It's that his book and the movie from it gives a lot of the wrong messages. It makes everything about personal failing, and completely ignored systems that contribute to poverty in rural areas. The kind of capitalism that we have in the US has done a huge number in the rural areas of the country, and led to people leaving in droves. It is his personal story and that's fine, but some people are taking a message from it that doesn't make sense. Also, he could have helped his mother in a better way (from what happened in the movie). She's having a drug issue, and anyone going through that is going to have some struggles getting past it.
Here's one criticism of his book and the surrounding conversation:

Joseph Ramirez did you grow up with a drug addict mom? Trying to help them is not easy, and it isn’t the child’s responsibility. After years of going through that, you get tired of it. It is mentally draining. I don’t blame him at all for what he did. He got out of a bad environment, and made a better life for himself. Something that is very hard to do because drug addict parents manipulate you into feeling guilty for them, and leaving them is extremely difficult. It isn’t just a black and white situation

We cannot control what is thrown at us or with what relentfulness it comes there's no mercy at times you rely on someone else's hand to ease the burdens and get help sometimes it never comes or arrives very late
However... what I wish I had learned sooner way sooner is this....
      NEVER SURRENDER ❤
Meaning when you feel like you're broken 💔 instead of giving up and saying okay I can't do it
That's when you need to FIGHT HARDER because you're about to LEVEL UPwards and it SPIRALS it compounds ❤
And that spiral directly AFFECTS EVERYONE around you... massive shock waves

Most people think I'm breaking down now.... give up .. catch a break to rest but that's when you GO ALL IN...
I think building systems of habit.... and REMOVING people and things from you can alleviate that
You can't give in ... ❤ every time I gave in to rest to catch a break it was worse...

Hard to believe a kid with a background like mine, both of us sitting in police cars while our addict moms got hauled away, might be VP is just mind blowing. Whatever your politics we have to admit and appreciate that our country gives kids like him, and me, a way up in life if we really, really want it and work hard. For me it was a fantastic college prep public school in Cincinnati that introduced me to the more articulate stable side of life. I'm with Lyndsey. I too was the one in my family that felt the responsibility of taking care of my siblings. I had 2 older sisters and a younger brother. They were learning disabled and I wasn't. Mom always told me I was the man of the family and I had to take care of them. I took this responsibility seriously but even now at 54 I grieve at my failure to protect them. We were removed from our parents care and placed in Foster Care where we continued to be abused. We were then moved to a Christian Group home, Gateway Woods in Leo Indiana. We thrived there but when they left I was lost. Had no one to care for and I didn't know who I was and what my place was. God has been good to me though and I praise him every day for making me the man I am today. God bless Trump, God bless Vance and God bless the U.S.A.

Forgive the child in you that thinks you’ve failed. Many children are given the job of being an adult way too soon. It sticks to you, be the leader, the boss, don’t dare make a mistake, make good choices. Parent tapes. That’s what it’s called in some psych classes. It’s the replay of things you heard or were subjected too by your parents. We all have them. When I get sick of hearing their words in their voice in my head, I tell them to stop. Then I proceed in my own direction. If I made a mistake, I live with it. If it turned out well, I live with that, too.

7/15/24, J. D. Vance now VP Nominee! I really knew nothing of the young man until searching articles & watching videos. I'm older by decades, but I can relate to his younger life, raised poor, family disfunction, military, a feeling of being out of place and different in college/university. I'm so happy to see someone like this man earn the chance to be considered for such a high position of leadership in this nation. May God Bless him and the United States of America!

I lived through an alcoholic era where my dad was always drinking and had other addictions as well, stems from his childhood as he was abused as a child from having to work as hard as a grown man in the fields and no way out, making moonshine to sell to have food to eat, very poverty stricken, non-ending , he died working hard and still in his alcoholism cycles. I miss my dad, he tried so hard but couldn’t seem to escape. We need to do better for our children and grandchildren.😢

Vance was in great part able to overcome his past because he is highly intelligent and highly educated. There are many reasons people overcome their past but it helps to be so intelligent and good-looking and articulate. Some would give up because they are not of good IQ or looks or articulation and so many other things.
Though most people have no idea how they looks and other things about themselves. So they get ahead through ignorance.
