Fantastic analysis. Only a GM knows this line and the alternative variance so well, in which GM King briefed appropriately. In addition, he enriched the analysis with narrative poetry style to leave more impressions on the audiences. Thanks
There's something a bit misleading in the video where (at about 4:45) 15.f4? is called "the standard move"; it's the standard move in the main line of 13.Bc2, but *not* in the now nearly-discarded 13.Re1 line, where - as was indeed explained - it doesn't really makes sense because of tactical reasons related to the bishop's placement on b3. (The standard move is 15.Kh1, as in that Yifan - Caruana game.) As Caruana noted in his post-game interview (ua-cam.com/video/E_JsnVHYWNk/v-deo.html), what probably happened was that Kovalev simply mixed up the lines. In general, the level of Kovalev's opening play in this tournament has been horrendous. What happened to him in this game is not quite embarrassing as the 1st round, where he mixed up his Zaitsev line and handed Firouzja a winning position by move 17, but getting an inferior position with White by move 17 in a heavily theoretical line is nearly as bad.
Daniel, great video as always. I would have loved it if you had just shown a couple of potentially winning lines in the final position to show why White is busted, since technically he's only one pawn down. Thanks!
I know 15. ... Nxf4 was for demonstrative purposes, but it's not black's best shot. 15. ... Qh4 is favoured by correspondence play and provides interesting positions (Bc2 line). That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis as usual, Mr. King.
Very much enjoy PowerPlay chess. But Daniel, take a leaf out of your substitute commentator's book - I really appreciate the way he tells you which squares the pieces are moving to rather than simply saying something like "so if Queen here then Bishop there". With my eyesight it's hard to follow this fast moving arrows!
That would've been the main line. Daniel went with a side line, and it was highly effective! Daniel utilized the element of surprise beautifully...you didn't stand a chance.
You've finally lost me. Never immediately obvious who has White... loss of track of game with excessive 'what ifs'... and unapologetic slurping of coffee :(
K K maybe his patreon content is, but I’m a novice player and still highly enjoy his videos. He speaks with a lot of clarity and he shows the tactics when they exist so it doesn’t take a lot to understand. Granted some things fly over my head like why exactly certain squares are key in the position but I would not categorize this channel as only accessible to advanced players

Things go ugly when your spanish bishop becomes french

Sheer class game, sheer class analysis. Thank you Daniel!
Nothing better than breakfast and Dani's game coverage on a saturday morning. Great analysis as always.
Great analysis! Caruana on fire like 5 years back at Sinquefield Cup.
Great stuff. Thanks GM King for your customarily superb coverage. If Fabiano wins Wijk, it will be well-deserved.
Going to be a great line up for 2023,can't wait...
Great game great analysis!!!
Excellent game by Fabi, really showing why he is one of the very best
A beautiful game, beautifully commentated on.
GReat analysis as always, thanks very much
Always a pleasure to watch
Excellent analysis of the underlying tensions in a complex, unbalanced position!

black was playing a piece up without having to capture said piece - white bishop is in prison
I was expecting firouzja anand game
