The 2020 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 11-26 January. World Champion Magnus Carlsen again heads the field, which includes Top 10 stars Caruana, Giri and So as well as 5-time World Champion Anand. A lot of the focus will be on young stars - Duda, Artemiev, Xiong and above all 16-year-old Alireza Firouzja, who makes his super-tournament debut. As well as the traditional venue in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, one round will be played in the PSV football stadium in Eindhoven (16 January).
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place the top two after tiebreaks then play a 2-game blitz (5+3) playoff and, if still tied, an Armageddon game. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. #TataSteelChess "Watch me without ads on your Amazon devices (bit.ly/Agadmat...) and Roku TV (bit.ly/Agadmat...)
This game reminded me again how little I truly understand about high level chess. Simply incredible.
I watched.
Sorry about that
and in this position
bout*
Good one
You are an excellent watcher of the videos.
But okay
For those of you who decided to play the video, congratulations, you found the best move as recommended by the engine here.
Thank you, Ciri! I'm glad Geralt taught you chess!
“Don’t watch this...”
Yeah nice try.
Are you Aditya Srivamohan?
damn click baity title!
I should’ve listened!
I watched it. I still don't understand it. I did enjoy it though.
arsenalfanrichi Nope.
"Disgusting engine lines that are lurking in the position"
I find that statement terrifying
True. What is so disgusting about the most obvious move? I found it right away. Not the computer's continuation though.
I honestly found bishop C5! It’s very satisfying when you find a computer top line during your videos! Thanks again for all your work you put into these videos! Love you content
Well then I'm doubly satisfied having found Bc5 and Rc8 at the end. I very much like complicated positions and love the style of players like Alekhine, Tal and Shirov.
Agad: congratulations if you found the disgusting engine move, bishop to c5
Me: YAAAAASSSSS!
Agad:... and here are the reasons why...
Me:........
..... right....... 😶
Lmfao same! Only move I found tho
turns out I'm a disgusting engine too.... but, like you I had no idea!
Lol
Agadmator warns not to watch
Excellent subscribers : acceleration yes
Even though the title of this video reads "do not watch this...", I'm glad I did. 😉 Because Fabi has really been playing some amazing chess in this tournament. What a win. 👍
in classical chess he is nearly unbeatable lately..
@@inagakiirichiro8882 He is weak in speed chess and now a young 16 year old is nipping at his heels.
@@emsnewssupkis6453 i said "classical games".. and I admit that he is weak at blitz and rapid.. but i like his personality..not like other top players that are arrogant
@@inagakiirichiro8882 No, they are all arrogant, this is how you climb the mountain to the top! It is part of the natural system, the natural effect of competitions of any sort.
@@emsnewssupkis6453 not all.. I mean yes if u lose u will get mad just like alireza did when he lost on time against magnus..but when fabi lose i never see him mad.. yes ofc he disappointed but not like some other players did ( hit the table/hit the chair) even carlsen do that
Antonio: Dont watch this...
Me: Watches it
Antonio: *surprised Pikachu face*
“a really DISgusting engine move” I love you Agadmator
Fabiano getting stronger every year. I think he is the only player that can beat Magnus in the WCC
I think ding is king
Until they play and they draw again 12 games in a row and Carlsen obliterates him in blitz.
Ding, Caruana and Nepo, for me... Caruana seems to have kicked into another gear lately though, so I will probably root for him.
@@nickwolf1234 in the end it's the classical championship. Imo it's weak to win the title in blitz, so not problem Fabiano losing in blitz (Magnus beat Anand fair and square).
GM Ding has also chances, but yes, GM Caruana is favorite in the Candidates Tournament.
12:39 "But now again, this engine move, rook to c1 is just... stupid"
0:37 that's the sorry about that of the day
Go, Fabi, go! Congrats!
You said it was the most difficult game to present to us, I say it's the best video I've watched
I’m ready for my brain to hurt
Edit: My brain hurts
im dazed
"Nothing was normal here" I love games like that.
14:46 Dat rook cutting through the diagonal was incredible though.
0:35 is this the fastest “sorry about that”?
Still no idea what is actually being apologized for
Andrew Trewin same
@@ajax3310 In theory, he's eliminating the speaker to neutralize echoing pieces, but it's hard to know for sure.
6:50 "Capture This" - MC Agadmator
Up you go
You pronounced the name very well! Good job as always :D
THANK YOU ANTONIO.... this is what a great weekend is to a lot of us
"Don't watch this.." well played Agad! You set a trap for which most of us fell ! 🙏
Congratulations to those who watched entire video and didn't find it scary. For others watch the video and enjoy it coz there is no ghost in it.
Caruana is getting better and better. Im a fan of Duda style, always pushing for wins, creating difficould lines, but Caruana always find a good move- respect. I hate these capture-capture=capture games, thats why i like them both, always creative
Hey guys I just realized that agadmator really doesn't use ads on his channel. He could be making money but he doesn't for us
Part of what makes his channel so good. And no cuts or edits.
We're rebels, Sir Radić. We don't take orders from anyone, that's why we're watching this video..
😈😈
I found Caruana's move rather than the engine's top choice. I'm still happy with this.
2:25 completely new game alert ;)
Wow so many offensive moves coming from both players pieces it was kind of hard to keep up with Fabi came out ahead so his game plan worked more effectively than Duda’s both great players watching this game proves opportunities are more plentiful with more pieces on the board many of my opponents want to trade everything I’ve noticed that doesn’t work out well for myself I’d rather have offensive capabilities to try to make something happen thanks for the Game Agadmator Enjoyed
7:38 Ah yes, the queen. My favourite rook ;)
5:16 also the pawn
lmao
Somewhere when bishop went to h4 he called it a rook too.
@@simohayha6031 The engine analysis shows why it's actually a rook.
In the post-game presser, Fabi said that he caught some bug and was feeling sick. What a great job on his part!!
Caruna is an attacking genius. Sacrifices a pawn alpha zero style and creates an overwhelming position.
Watched this multiple times .... what an incredible game ... one cannot walk away
Appreciated your hard work agadmator.....just go on
The picture of Fabi looks like he’s staring into my soul
He impregnated me with this picture!
"So, for those of you who were able to watch it...
am I a joke to you?"
Agadmator with a third upload today, a lot of activity
"Activity above all.!!"
the depth of the beauty found in a chess game...rarely gets illustrated as well...but also it shows the human brain still has a long way to go..to demonstrate it
Chess is not dead
I almost cannot watch chess LIVE anymore, I would just rather come here and see the game in 10-20 mins. :) seriously. Keep up the great work!
Unless it is rapid/blitz ;)
Same here. I watch watching the entire Tata Steel live stream, for the first week, but I was falling asleep after a while. It's much more interesting to just watch Agadmator's recaps of the most important games.
@@jeffgreen3376 a 100% my friend.
@@hoola_amigos haha! yup, exactly.
5:07: After Rb3 white can take the bishop on a6. The knight on c5 is overworked.
What's the reason the engine disagrees?
Good catch
Probably Rxf3 after Rxa6
WhyCan'tIRemainAnonymous?! No because of rook takes g3 with check after you take on a7
Smuuf It's g3 but who cares about precision :) You are right though :)
@@smuuf9513 True (figured it out shortly after posting and deleted that post; it's a pity YT won't let you see the screen while typing a reply on a phone, so you have to guess at the position while writing 😃)
i love how the games agadmator presents are so over the top crazy, that bishops can constantly transform into pawns, rooks and sometimes queens are rooks its just mind blowing
:P
Nothing was normal about this game
I woke up with a precognition Caruana's going to win it.
nice tactics from Mr Duda in the last third of the video, and Fabi played extremely well a whole tournament ... this goes to show what it takes at the moment to beat Magnus in a tournament
doggo mixing it up today and not using its bed lol
Love seeing players going for a win rather than grinding down to a draw. Makes watching chess especially at Pro level worth watching.
While I give you a couple of seconds... nice analysis thanks Agadmator
At 10:42 Rxb7 is met with Qxb7. Actually the real threat from white is actually Qg6+ Kf8 Bxh6, I suppose.
You are very Good at pronouncing names!
Thanks for the analysis and for making it relatable to a patzer like me.
This is the first time I’ve not listened to agadmator.
Other youtubers: MUST WATCH!
Agad: Don’t watch this...
0:35 finally, my brain just feels happier now.
12:35 "you're gonna kick away the rook who will capture your passed pawn since you blocked its only defender"
8:51 Faby putting pressure on the entire board :))
Everyone watched..
Congratulations we all are excellent end game tacticians/geniuses.
Very crazy game. Super good calculations by Caruana
great analysis , appreciate your effort agadmator'.
17:55 Rc7 e5 is the best move
Fabi played like a machine in this game!!!
i mean im just messing around but watching agad on x2 speed it's actually hillarious. Im laughing my ass for a solid 3 minutes now!
does not lose a game, loses 8 rating points. That's the plight of a world champion.
Great battle, greetings from Poland 💓
Perhaps title a bit underrated for fab, we have new tata champions here!!!
He is arguably well deserved it, not only because of the point. But also because he able to defeat duda, whereas magnus only able to draw yesterday.
It’s crazy because he says “after that move you run into this move” and I’m just like even if I was in that good of a position I wouldn’t have noticed all of the moves that he points out
I saw the first move, but not the followup defence and the counter to the followup.
he uses the Engine first to analyse the game so he knows all the possibilities after every move.
Thanks for your great coverage of this game. Well, for all the games you analyze. It seems like a Herculean effort . . . but much appreciated.
Truly complicated amazing chess. Excited for these two to meet again
Massacre. Nice analysis. Very complicated.
Fabi Fabi. If he keep this rate up, he would be the next world chess championship challenger again
Everytime he says "disguisting engine line" some chess engine programmer cries somewhere.
Haha
Tears of joy
The Bd3 line that you explained in this match . There is a mistake , actually the Rxb7 continues with Qxb7 not the took so that rook defends the e6 pawn ..... Correct me if I was wrong 😄
What a great game! And congratulations to Mr. Caruana!
5:17 Funny looking pawn you got there.
What makes this better is that you call it a pawn once again after a few seconds
He mistakes pieces all the time, i find it charming, and i really like that he doesn't do any cuts or edits
@@cygnustsp Yeah it is one of the many things that make him feel more like a normal person who does mess up occasionally
Agadmator should review some of his subscriber games. World championship games aren't as wild as some of the games lower rated players have played
too bad for the rushed move from duda before time control.. time pressure takes away from the accuracy in a game, but of course it's needed.
Excellent analysis & presentation.
Incredible game Fabi! 2020 off to a great start, keep it up!
even though you explained a lot of things i still got so many questions Caruana and Duda played an incredible game maybe even the best in the tournament
@agadmator At 4:44, after black play's R b3, white can play R x a6
@4:41 in the video , why not rook to b3?
Bd2 Rb3
R*a6 N*a6
Q*b3 .... Material up
Don't watch this video 😂
I can't resist
At 18 min why not Duda, black pawn to E5??
If Fabi takes, bishop take E5 attack knight and rook, knight will be lost eventually. If Fabi does not take checkmate is forced.
I really love the new thumbnail images!
I know it’s extra work, but if you could put up time left for each player in a small font beside their name or something, it would give another dimension for us to think about in the players’s moves. Maybe just do it for classical games?
18:20 we can play e5 and 10:41 Qb7 PROTECTING PAWN
He says uhh... so many times. I like it
That game was just insane!
17:19 why not simply capture the bishop with the knight? it also comes with a discovered check...
Excellent question! I'm not using an engine, so I'm not sure, but in my humble (and limited) opinion, it's because after Rook to A7, you're threatening both the bishop on B7 AND the pawn on F7, and there's no way to save both. You COULD capture the bishop with the knight right away with a discovered check, but as they say, sometimes the threat is greater than the execution. By capturing the bishop, you no longer have the Rook captures on F7 threat, and the knight would be slightly misplaced on B7.
Im low rank player but im thinking this must be a winning move. I guess not 😂
Only one arrow and one highlighted square in the thumbnail. Can’t be that complicated
Edit: I guess it can
What a tactical fest by both sides!
Rook to b3 is not advisable as you lose an exchange. You either lose a bishop or you lose a bishop and a rook and capture a rook. Either way you end up losing material
5:28 Agad emphasized the a6 Pawn
Bishop at a6: Now I'm depressed
Complex game, even for 1286+ player. I would probably choose Polish opening against Duda
Agadmato uses high level psychological tricks to make us watch the video ;)
What about Bg5 for the 4:30 guess the move? If black takes the bishop, the knight on the C file and the bishop on the A file will be hanging.
after 20. bd2 line black's rb3 would leave the bishop hanging as the knight has to protect both bishop and rook. position at around 4min 51 sec
Rainy day today here n south texas
4:43 This Rb3 is a blunder, because of R×a6 wins the bishop, you can't move with the knight, because of Q×a1. 👍😉
hows the queen gonna take A1? can you look at the position again
Si myslel Rxa6 a Qxb3 nie? 😅
I assume u mean Qxb3, but i looked at it and i thought why not...Rxf3 after Rxa6
Yes I am sorry everybody. Now I repaired it. 👍😉😁
"when Duda played his move the engine screeeeamed" 😫
