It’s basically his talk/singing voice he’s had since 1997 (Pop). He had a richer voice in 1995 (Passengers) and prior. But even his voice on Zooropa (1993) had already begun to shift away from the operatic singing he was able to do on 1991’s Achtung Baby (Wild Horses, for example), which is something he would employ through most of the studio songs on 1988’s Rattle & Hum and prior albums.
@@michaelgriffiths8068 After the Lovetown Tour, his voice took a major beating. His difficulties were most noticeable during Popmart, as they are on Elevation. I would also think that cigarrettes contributed to it in a way, as does aging. he had surgery in 1998. But after that his voice became much better again. Hé did a lot of operatic singing during the vertigo and 360 tour.
@@Josh77600 - Even though he has done more operatic singing again in recent years, the vocal pitch and tonality are totally different to his voice in the mid to late 80s. That “golden pure” voice he had when he used to sing from the belly (for lack of a better term), not from the throat as he does now. As I say, he still was able to hit that in various places on Achtung Baby (the, “I remember when we could sleep on stonessss…” in ‘Ultraviolet’, for example). When he sang those lines on the 360 tour, the notes might have been the same, but not the gust or the soul. Something has been stripped away. The surface still remains however, so it still works for him, and he is able to adapt. He still can raise the hair on the back of the neck occasionally (the piano version of ‘Every Breaking Wave’ during the European Music MTV Awards, for example).
@@michaelgriffiths8068 I like how you describe that. And i understand what you mean! Has never been the same indeed. What’s your favourite tour/performance?
fellers…that truly is great. Beatles Leonard Cohen great. what a cool choice. I am older than y’all. For a long time SOS was the only ABBA song I like, because I was rock. Cheers. old duffer from Tennessee.
@@markedwards4160 Hmm, doesn't look like any Turner guitars I'm seeing but thanks for the tip. The shape of the bridge is different and I think the headstock logo runs the other direction like a Takemine. Just occurred to me that this might belong to BBC studio and not Edge.
@@rcgillsympaticoca Most likely his guitar as hes using his signature guitar strap on it. I mean he could carry around his strap i guess.. Seems like the logo may start with a W been trying hard to figure ito ut
No he’s not ya clown. His voice isn’t what it used to be, I agree with that, and it wasn’t very adventurous (as a result of his age - he played it safe) but he wasn’t singing out of tune
ABBA - best music in history!
When You love Bono U2 & ABBA.... Perfect alchemy ❤ Merci de France 🙏
Great tribute from one legenary band to another
My favourite ABBA song covered very well by U2 , well done guys
Best of both worlds right here. Much Love !!! ❤❤❤
This cover was so good it reminded me of when Bono sang “Summer Wine” with The Coors.
A masterpiece
as old as Bono is his voice doesn't change with age
I think it almost sounds completely different than in the 80s for example. But he still sounds great indeed.

Beautiful song❤
Maybe U2 should do a album of covers. This was pretty good.
Portishead, he made cover of cover.
Agreed ❤
This doesn't even scratch the passion and energy of the original by the masters
Just today i saw Bono & Björn & Benny performing 'Dancing Queen'...
Wonderful version of SOS.
Love ❤️ ABBA... and U2.
❤🇨🇱👍
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 adorei 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤳
So when U2, best band of the 80's does Abba, best band of the 70's magic happens
no AI...what a relief and enrichment ;) thanks
Bono's voice is like honey

Wow , brilliant,so so enjoyed hearing this .perfect little tune
Beautiful
Great rendition from one of my favorite groups of all time. But where is the octave to build the emotions? Bono's emotive highs, it needed it! ❤
Absolutely brilliant
Very cool!
Very, very good song!
Grande!

Bono fantastico

I LOVE YOU.
“Well tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you!”
Anyone recognize that acoustic guitar Edge is using? Thanks.
Looks like a Turner 85ce like mine...

Nice, it sounds not bad!
Bono is such a See you next tuesday
Someone make Nirvana x ABBA - SOS
Frusciante nailed it, U2 didn’t
This is what happens when no-one can tell you you're awful
its just U or 2
That was pure garbage.
This is awful
Bono is off key and vocally weak

Well that was awful.
Pretty Lame Bono
This is some real garbage
Awful cover.
Jorn and Tommy Johanson covered ABBA songs far much better.Sorry but a weak version of a golden oldie band.
