You can use shift (or ctrl, can't remember right now, but pretty sure it's shift!) to snap the elements to the grid if you have trouble lining them up.
If you have a controller you can also move elements pixel by pixel! Sometimes the elements lock into these weird smaller grids that don't want to line up or maybe the shift grid doesn't fit your configuration. Plug in your controller, click the element and use the d-pad to fine tune.
12:05 note: you can copy your hud layout setup to any of the other sets, there's an option for that in the cog menu next to the numbered sets I personally used that to copy my main layout so I can edit it easily when I play healer and save that layout as set #2
I moved the enemy bar slightly to the left so its not in the middle of the screen and its perfect now. It feels like I can finally see the game. being able to downsize and simplify the bars is such amazing qol.
I don't like to have everything TOO centralized because I don't like my UI blocking my view of the world. But I definitely agree with using the simplified job gauges. The default ones take up so much real estate. Especially the round ones like Monk's Chakra which is a circle instead of a line. I don't like those.
Dude that target bar splitting of the the Hp and status affects is such a good tip for setting up the targets progress bar and making it a lot bigger so it’s easier to see thank you
I am new to FFXIV and customizing the hot bars. I did learn some new things from this video like resizing however the one thing I am mainly looking for is how to make the empty Hot Bar bubbles transparent meanwhile still having abilities shown on that same hot bar. it looks so clutter-y with empty squares on your hot bar! Edit: Found what I was looking for after asking a friend. System / Character Configuration / Display / Hotbar Display Settings / Hide Unassigned Slots.
firstly, thx for the guide. i havent changed my UI in years and i used your tips to make it even cleaner now. what i'd like to add is... (not sure if it really fits here or into your other video about the combat QoL) split the chat windows into chat and status messages. it helps to keep track of things you may otherwise miss. also what i found out while experimenting: you can change your buff bars into 4 different grids and adjust the alignment to left/ right. for example i changed my bars to 20x1 and stacked "Enhancements" and "Others", changed "Others" to align right. it slims down the UI space even more like this
Thanks for this guide! The UI is something I've struggled with my entire playtime and still continue to do so. This is a big help! One tip I can give though - I noticed you had to go back and make little UI adjustments with the mouse. You can use your keyboard's numpad to move UI elements by one pixel! 8 moves it up, 2 is down, 4 is left, and 6 is right. You can do this to make your UI pixel perfect.
If your keyboard doesn't have a num pad like mine, but you have a controller laying around, you can also connect a controller and use the d-pad to do the same thing.
Very useful. I have been watching a few of your in game QoL vids and they are very helpful. With some minor tweeks for personal preference, this setup has been a big help for me. Thank you.
I personally find the aggro list very useful to see the boss' cast bar. That way as a tank main I can control both the aggro and what the boss is up to
I've been searching how to make my HUD look exactly like that, it's so clean and practical, and this video made me realize the enemy list and now I know to target my enemies and not my alies while I'm trying to be a good Melee DPS
I recommend turning the map domewhat transparent- You can easily get by with while also being able to partly see through it, its a grrat feature to use on almosy any UI component that isnt directly related to battle. I have my class switch bar on almost full transparency and it doesnt affect me at all in a fight.
Another really good video. I also like to have my UI around the center of the screen because that's where you're looking at most of the time so you can look at mechanics while watching your bars.
I just want to let you know that you have been such a help to me and I’m sure many others. Seriously you deserve so much praise for what you put out, and I’ve been a much better player thanks to you. So I appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos.
Thank you! The fact my videos have helped you improve as a player really makes me glad, even if they have just been a small contributer! But I'm sure most of the credit goes to yourself for improving yourself as a player, so well done and keep on improving :>
It took me many years to get my UI the way I want it, and even still I want to make edits in the future to it! your UI is something that will evolve over time, just take your time making slight edits to it along the way, that's how I do it :)
Just came back to FFXIV after a very long hiatus and it seems as though they reset EVERYTHING HUD wise. This video helped me a TON. Thanks alot man I appreciate it
thanks for helping me understand even just the basic uses of each hud part now im not looking around trying to find the enemies health bar like an idiot
These qol videos are very informative. There's some things I didn't know and I've been playing for 5 years. Plus, Your job guides are easy to understand. Also, Every time I see your character I say to myself "looks too similar to my character it's like they're related" lol
There's something about the enemy list placement that's not too obvious, a lot of cast bars that display there are *much* longer than what the selection box is showing you and could overlap with another UI element (such as the target status effects in this video), and it doesn't show you if the enemy list might cut off some enemies at the bottom if there's a lot of enemies on screen. similar thing is for the party list if you have it display 10 status effects, the limit break bar is ironically the exact length of how many status effects would display with all 10 (if both party list and limit break are the same size), so you could use that to make sure the party list's status effects aren't overlapping with anything
I forgot about that with the enmity list, admitely I don't use it too often to track cast bars, only in a few cases like Shinryu, but you could fix this by just moving the enmity list a bit more to the left
Thanks for the idea! I agree with the part where it’s easier if all the info is in one place. Although it’s subjective, but i can imagine the relief if i can just look at one place.
Started playing recently (200 hours) and I found this super helpful. Only thing I couldn't really do was have the target bar in the center of the screen. It (the target bar) quickly became too much of a distraction for me so I had to resize it and move some of the elements about. However; this is a really good guide for new players and practically all of my hud's since have been inspired this by one!
been slowly adjusting my hud over the months and finally have an extremely compact layout with all info close but not taking up 80% of my view like the one you made.
Ok, separating the cast bar is big brain, not only shall I do this, my Co-tank was saying he needed the cast bar to be bigger just today so I can show him this too
How can you play with all that stuff right in the middle of your screen? Up to a third of the video it was neat but then you kept stacking things upwards... so much noise
Yeah I really don't like this video for a HUD guide, I appreciate this persons other guides, but not this one. Their hud is just too messy for me. Not to mention they said to keep stuff on the screen that isn't important at all, like the Pet Hotbar. It does absolutely nothing 95% of the time, and nothing in combat, and they have it right beside the main ability hotbars. I don't get it. I rather watch a guide for top tier raiding for the most meta hud placements over this lol, because at least then it'll be optimal.
Honestly, not the biggest fan of this setup myself. I dislike having everything in the middle of the screen as a endgame raider myself. I like clarity in the middle of my screen to see bosses mechanics and the arena to see whats going on more. I think it would've been great if you put emphasis on the fact that this works best for you and not everyone. People should use this to learn how to setup their own UI instead of blindly copying what you are using because for me this would be a straight downgrade from the default ui.
you can see the enemy cast bar on the enemy list aswell! I for one "hid" the enemy hp and cast bar, I prefer to check the enemy list for it and put target buffs/debuffs on a 3x4 layout besides the list
I just noticed something I didn't actually think of before, those are hotbar configurations 1-4 1 could be your combat hotbars and classes and stuff 2 could be your crafting ones 3 could be gathering and 4 could be for something else...(pvp maybe?) And then you can probably through a macro change between those.
Ironically having stuff right in the middle of the screen just feels vastly more messy. Good to break down what does what in these menus for newer players but showing stuff in the way of the action is gonna cause issues.
Never caused issues for me and I cleared all 3 Ultimates on release 🤷♂️ either way, it's about finding a HUD that suits your needs, personally I find having all my information in 1 place is extremely important and when your fully zoomed out during combat (which you should be) then it should cause no visual issues what so ever
I wasn't a fan of simple job gauge but...maybe I should give it a chance. Dunno if I like idea of target HP covering my character. Hmmm... A pity that Enemy List rectangle in HUD editor is so small but can be kinda big when you can see every enemy in pack that tank pulled. Edit: I have a good sight but I still like everything big. Maybe I just have too small monitor :D
Think it depends on the job you're playing. On SAM I use simple for my Sen and Kenki, on BLM I use full. Also on my Sam I have my abilities in row with my Sen so I can small brain what moves coordinate with what Sen, and my Kenki abilities over the gauge, BLM it's just more clear in full what's going on.
@@nickwild7 true with "depends on a job". I've tried simple job gauges and for bars like Kenki or RDM mana it looks nice. But simple diamonds/squares for Gunbreaker or Scholar? Nope, they can be easly lost on screen. For them I just made my job gauge a lot smaller than before :D (small normal Sen looks better for me than simple Sen)
Definitely depends on the job and the player I think, a lot of this in my video is personal preference, so I'm glad people aren't straight up copying it, its just to give an idea of why I set up my HUD the way I do and maybe give some pointers along the way to setting up your own HUD :)

As a Lala main this setup doesn't work for me as I can't see my character at all if everything is in the middle of the screen, but it's great info on how to manipulate and set up the HUD to your personal liking.
on the one hand, I love the job gauges bc they give you a really bit of character... on the other, simple really is just cleaner. (side note, time to redo my UI for the 10129948th time lol)
Thank you! You can really customise and personalise the UI to your hearts content, but sometimes it can be quite intimidating so I hope this video eased that intimidation a bit
I’m pretty new to the game and finishing ARR and I feel like I’m drowning in my UI a lot of times, plenty of times I lost track of what the enemy was casting or buffs drop off or whatever, so I’m taking all these suggestions to heart lol. I’m playing on a laptop with a small screen which isn’t exactly making it easier
I used to have the target hotbar down. Then after they became fully customizable, I moved it back to the top of the screen. I only need the debuffs and the cast bar down. I don't need a line that is cutting the middle of my screen, that is just my preference.
It's already hard enough adjusting to a brand new layout in general, I know that if I went for simple gauges I'd get confused on where my white mage lilies are
It kind of depends. On AST and GNB, I have the default gauge right in the middle of my 4 crossbars because the art is nice and it's not intrusive. On SCH, however, I have the simple gauge (3 diamonds) sit just below the Aetherflow button. Intuitively, I can see my remaining stacks and the cooldown at the same time.
A lot of this is personal choice. For example, I hate seeing anything in the middle of the screen as it obstructs the view of the boss and what's happening.
but azurite, I love my full size weeb kenki bar :'( very good video I'm gonna copy a lot from you UI layout since I've been using the default one all the time XD
I really wish there were a way to align-justify some of these elements so I can place my Party list in the bottom of the screen and have it fill upwards as members are added.
Im going to put this into effect. I just started 3 days ago, but im trying to learn as much as I can. This game is refreshingly simple & complete, unlike d4. I love d4 & and all, but that game is far from finished & I'm sort of sick of diablo 4 right now because my damage is capped at around 200 to 300k damage on my druid & sorcerer.
I feel like ym screen is too small whe i see you bringing all those elements together without it being too tight or jsut hiding the boss. Maybe I should have an UI for raid and one for everything else
I tried this once, my main problem was that I need debuffs and the target bar int he top otherwise I don't really look up at what's going on where as if I have to look up the screen I get cursory glances at what's going on on the battle arena
Dude you are a life saver most ui guides are shit thank heavens for the hell I don’t have a duty gauge I’m still in realm reborn and not made it to end game content is that why I don’t have a duty gauge. Do I have limit break unlocked because I something called limit gauge is that limit break
very useful video! my one question though.. how do you make certain boxes completely disappear on the hotbar? i’ve been trying to figure it out on my own since i don’t know how to look it up 😭
meh started off good, honestly it is more of a distraction for me having bars halfway up the screen. Buffs and stuff can stay up the top as its not that important imo. I guess on my 65 inch TV I could spread it out more along the bottom
I know this is an old(er) UI setup, but i assume its still viable in 2024? Also, do you have one UI for questing and another for solo content? Thats a LOT of info on your screen if its just you.
I need to know how people play with default keybindings. I played like that for a few weeks and could never hit the 6 key let along 7+. I switched to 1234qertfcxz and it's made everything so much easier to reach
on my hotbar i still got the box where there are no skills on it and yours is transparent and clean. and mine still has hotbar 1 2 3 on each hotbars, how i do change them?
You can use shift (or ctrl, can't remember right now, but pretty sure it's shift!) to snap the elements to the grid if you have trouble lining them up.
Today I learned! Thank you :D
This right here is a pro-tier comment and in my humble opinion deserves a pin. Now if only there was a way to select and move multiple items at once.
Oh, I wonder if there’s a way to do this on console?
If you have a controller you can also move elements pixel by pixel! Sometimes the elements lock into these weird smaller grids that don't want to line up or maybe the shift grid doesn't fit your configuration. Plug in your controller, click the element and use the d-pad to fine tune.
Shift snaps on a larger intervals. Use the numpad 2, 4, 8, 6 to move things in a much smaller intervals

A lot of this is personal choice. For example, I hate seeing anything in the middle of the screen as it obstructs the view of the boss and what's happening.
but azurite, I love my full size weeb kenki bar :'(
very good video I'm gonna copy a lot from you UI layout since I've been using the default one all the time XD
I really wish there were a way to align-justify some of these elements so I can place my Party list in the bottom of the screen and have it fill upwards as members are added.
I know this is an old comment, but maybe this can help others. You can change your party order set up in character configuration.
Just moving everything to one place "doesnt clean your room"
7:34 This is Thancred.
7:40 What button combination you used to resize it 🤔 Thanks & wish you good rest of the year 🙂 [Forever Subber to FFXIV] 💯
This to me, looks like drag everything and stack it on top of each other, make sure they dont overlap... Im failing to see the clean HUD
I feel like ym screen is too small whe i see you bringing all those elements together without it being too tight or jsut hiding the boss. Maybe I should have an UI for raid and one for everything else
That's what I was just about to ask/mention. If there is a set up for everyday solo questing and another for raids
I tried this once, my main problem was that I need debuffs and the target bar int he top otherwise I don't really look up at what's going on where as if I have to look up the screen I get cursory glances at what's going on on the battle arena
I used this guide to get my HUD almost perfect for me so thank you, but what are all the things on the very top bar on the top of your screen?
Dude you are a life saver most ui guides are shit thank heavens for the hell I don’t have a duty gauge I’m still in realm reborn and not made it to end game content is that why I don’t have a duty gauge. Do I have limit break unlocked because I something called limit gauge is that limit break
very useful video! my one question though.. how do you make certain boxes completely disappear on the hotbar? i’ve been trying to figure it out on my own since i don’t know how to look it up 😭
Character Configuration - Hotbar Settings - Display (First tab) - Hotbar Display Settings (First Row of Options) - "Hide unassigned slots" (2nd option down)
Sorry for not including that, hope this helps!
I appreciate thanks. I did learn a few things. Wasn't expecting that... Ego say what? bahahaha.
Glad you learnt something! :)
meh started off good, honestly it is more of a distraction for me having bars halfway up the screen. Buffs and stuff can stay up the top as its not that important imo. I guess on my 65 inch TV I could spread it out more along the bottom
Buffs and debuffs can be crucial for certain fight mechanics.
Also if you're trying to minmax you want to keep an eye on buff timers from your party.
Not me being like: What boots are those?!
I sometimes see people with really clean UI and I just get disheartened on how to fix my own UI lol
Sometimes it's just about putting some time aside and playing around with it to suit your needs
What size % do you have the hotbars and such on?
I didn’t even know enemies had a cast bar.
I like the noisy job gaugs
And how did you remove the resources of the members of the party frames?
What is that coat you have on your char at the start?
How do you remove the hotbar outlines and number? No oen is saying ayrhing about this and its getting irritating.
on my hotbar i still got the box where there are no skills on it and yours is transparent and clean. and mine still has hotbar 1 2 3 on each hotbars, how i do change them?
this is after i exit HUD layout
How to get rid of the dang carbuncle fill gauge???
How do i remove the numbers in the side of hud?
How to do you drag an move these around on console
Is this setup viable with cross hot bar on controller?
what is that costüm set ?
I wish copying layouts to other characters wasn't so annoying.
