Change “one favored terrain” to “all natural terrains” And “favored enemies” to “non-magical creatures” There, Ranger is no longer situational. You’re welcome.
I would still say change the 20th ability to something better And for the non magical creatures thing I would say in ADDITION to a favored enemy But yeah this oretty much would fix Ranger
@@CommonApathy WoTC actually enjoys players creating homebrew and actively encourages it as well, basically saying yes we try our best to create a great vanilla game, and it's not always perfect, so you guys go out there and create the perfect game for you
@@CommonApathy I'd say this is less homebrewing and more along the lines of houseruling, which if you play DnD, you've probably done before. My friend has to house rule Polymorph because he didn't want my Warlock to turn every single even mildly threatening monster into a sea snail with Polymorph before tossing it into the nearest magic circle that leads to god knows where.
He’s going in alphamabetical order, so Cthulhu will have to wait until Rogue and Sorcerer be done first. Unless he decides to y’know, not go in order. Heck, I wouldn’t put it past our eldritch lord to make it happen.
tbh the biggest problem with ranger is that it's supposed to be the class for people who love the exploration pillar but it's abilities just flat out skip the pillar. It's like if Bard's main ability was 'heres all the things you can convince people of, no die rolls or actual intereaction required'
The main problem with ranger is that most games absolutely skip the exploration pillar. In games where it's actually a significant part of gameplay, the ranger is an ideal companion. I was looking for a Middle Earth adaptation for 5e, and the Wanderer class from "Adventures in Middle Earth" is almost exactly the PHB Ranger. And the class features make travel a lot less tiresome. In a game where There And Back Again actually matters, arriving well at your destination after going through untamed wilderness is not something to be underestimated.
@@notthetrueNic that's a symptom of 5e's general design though. It just doesn't have the framework to support the ranger because its idea of "exploration pillar" is "tracking food and ammo" and its way to try and promote engagement with that is "stop tracking food and ammo" (which as you said, noone does anyway)
I see your point and raise you Sharpshooter, Hunter’s Mark, advantage on initiative, and a passive perception that is so through the roof you can find traps and secret doors without even worrying about it
The Unearthed Arcana that "patched" the ranger addressed most of these problems, so if you still want to play a ranger but want it to feel stronger, use that.
I think I have to mention that the Adventures in Middle-Earth version of this class, the Wanderer, is WAY better. Favored Terrain gets replaced by Known Lands, which you get more of as you level up, so you can pick regions where your party is going to be adventuring, and the level 20 ability is that you don't have to roll for damage anymore and just get to do maximum every time. You're also absolutely OP in the Journey phase, to the point that the other characters can just leave all of the jobs up to you and you'll probably just do them better anyway. Plus, if you picked Dunedain as your culture, you basically just get to be Aragorn.
3 possible scenarios for that bard 1. Good view from down there 2. Weird stuff, like others have said 3. See that sword placement? It's because *sMITE*
"Power of racism" makes it sound quite hilarious Racist against Undead Racist against Demons Racist against Angels Racist against Animals Racist against Eldritch Horrors Racist against Chairs and Golems (Constructs)
Interestingly enough, the Ranger and Paladin both first show up in the Bard's episode (The Ranger as someone picked up from a club and the Pali as a...uh... distraction)
I'm not very experienced at this (like literally one night), but the DM made the whole experience for me. One DM had us actually track stuff and go through terrain, and playing Ranger like that was fun. The other basically said he just does battles and rushed us to where the enemy saying we just "get there." Fighter with a bow would have been way better.
Meanwhile my ranger deals the most damage of the party, is difficult to hit and has a higher stealth stat than the rogue. (Also they somehow decapitated a creature with an arrow once)
I literally rewatched the entire series last night. It's like you're inside my head. Yes, I watch the series every week, & no I don't have a problem. Shut up.
0:11 and 2:41 my head canon now is that she hangs out with John and Nicmo more than the rest of the party, and they all get along really well and get into a bunch of crazy shananigins like this together that the monk and cleric have to drag them out of
For those of you that were interested in playing Ranger, I would highly recommend you talk to you DM about using the Uneartharcana Revised Version as its wording is a lot better and it feels a lot more like its own class. media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/UA_RevisedRanger.pdf

I made a Hunter Ranger, Variant Human with Sharpshooter, picked up TWF, Equipped a Rapier with a Hand Crossbow, and I proceed to Annihilate 4 enemies on each of my turns thanks to the use of Horde Breaker. Weapon Bisexuality is the name of my game c:
That's... actually how I built my lizardfolk ranger Frisk
Some magical moonlight bow and two rather vanilla swords that aren’t anything too special except for the fact that they manifest from my tiara. That’s my loadout at least…
I dipped into one level of Fighter so I could pick up a second fighting style and have both Archery and Two Weapon Fighting.
To those mentioning about the Bard mini at the end,
Don't forget them getting into restraining-order distance at the start
Jocat's having some fun with the two XD
Right? It was such a good detail and the ending only made it better!
Change “one favored terrain” to “all natural terrains”
And “favored enemies” to “non-magical creatures”
There, Ranger is no longer situational.
You’re welcome.
I would still say change the 20th ability to something better
And for the non magical creatures thing I would say in ADDITION to a favored enemy
But yeah this oretty much would fix Ranger
That sounds like cheating to me fam.
@@ThePersuasiveParrot Homebrew isn't cheating. DnD isn't perfectly balanced, WotC admits this.
Cthulhu had sent me to tell you he awaits "A Crap Guide to Warlocks" with impatience
Totally needs to be a short stint where JoCat rambles in R'lyehian while describing the Great Old One patron.
He’s going in alphamabetical order, so Cthulhu will have to wait until Rogue and Sorcerer be done first.
Unless he decides to y’know, not go in order. Heck, I wouldn’t put it past our eldritch lord to make it happen.

@@MasterMygrane incidentally, it's also the order of the classes in the PHB. Lol cool huh
MacJordan OClarkly it’s not incidental wizards of the coast knows how to put stuff in alphabetical order too
tbh the biggest problem with ranger is that it's supposed to be the class for people who love the exploration pillar but it's abilities just flat out skip the pillar.
Mm. They made a class based on Aragorn but instead of Aragorns skills they bullshit the competency with magic. Aragorn was a fighter, not a Ranger.
I just play ranger so I can be an Arizona ranger with a big iron on my hip, I convinced my dm to let me have a six shot flintlock

Jesus, both that druid and that fighter are Hawt. Maybe I should try out ranger for once. Hmmm
Xanathar's Guide wants to know your location
3 possible scenarios for that bard
1. Good view from down there
2. Weird stuff, like others have said
3. See that sword placement? It's because *sMITE*
