Paladin Class Ability: Get the plot moving.
This activated ability allows the Dungeon Master to finally get the quest going without forcing/massively bribing his players to care. Because OF COURSE the Paladin will volunteer to rescue this random stranger's loved one. OF COURSE the Paladin will charge into the haunted forest to help the poor villagers. Pay me? Well sure if you want, but you don't have to.
Unless the Paladin is a Dwarven follower of Moradin, then absolutely pay me. Completely charitable work without some reward doesn't fit their code
or you have a more lenient dm who let me be an eldritch paladin so im going to go into the haunted forest to sacrifice the villagers to Cthulu
Play the Paladin who uses the inherent powers of divine justice and RAW SEXUAL CHARISMA to sleep with anything and anyone that catches your eye. Barter for your services to line your pockets as you collect your "earthly remuneration" to assist in your endeavors.

@@FlyingDominion No actually, but that totally fits! I like playing characters with a "spin" on what is normal or expected. Take a stereotype role and flip it on it's head, see what happens. My current character is a charismatic, vain, half orc swashbuckler rogue who is all about fencing and dueling for gravitas and fame. The first time he was asked to pick a lock he was shocked and appalled at the assumption he even could, claiming he'd only ever used his tools to pick chastity belts
Loved the “Deus Vult” at the end. Personally, because I love puns, I got my DM to let me rename a spell for my Paladin. “Guiding Bolt” is now “Deus Bolt,” and I absolutely love it.

I've played a paladin for about a year now. I think I've actually casted a spell maybe twice and both of them were misty step, just so I could get close to SMITE

Best part is that Mike Mearls even said that you can use Smite with ranged weapons, and it changes nothing balance wise, and the only reason it was done was pure flavor text.
Which means you can play a paladin with a bow, and yes it is awesome.

@Platypus There are no level requirements to any magical item I know of in the official books.
@Platypus Let me say again in 5e, which unless otherwise specified is generally what people speak about, there are no level requirements whatsoever in the official books when items magical, or not are concerned.
@Platypus My guess as to why that's written in there is, because its a hold over from past editions, because there were level restrictions back then. There's no level restrictions for items now though, there are however class, race, alignment, proficiency, and deity restrictions.

Yeah, so my friend hooked me up with some D&D (He's the game master) and my first character is a tiefling paladin. I showed this to him and his only reaction was "Well, yeah. That's basically what smite does". And belive me, once you hit these sweet-sweet one-shots, you are gonna smite and only SMITE. Who needs healing when the enemy is too dead to hurt you, am I right?

I had to come back to this video that inspired me to make a paladin after losing my first D&D character. The "do you wanna tank do you wanna fight, do you want a class that will instill fright take up some plate and keep the goblins in sight cuz you wanna make sure they eat this paladin SMITE" stayed with with me ever since I was researching paladins and found this video last year.
