    I hope you took the time to get it right. Tired mechanics and tight schedule don't mix well...

  • @EfficientRVer

    Mechanics working under time pressure, pilots/owners being goal oriented, viewing regulations as red tape, and an aircraft being different than what was trained on, sound like things mentioned in an FAA accident report. Hopefully it's just being presented that way for UA-cam drama, rather than being true.

      "today the plane is leaking all over, we sure hope that that is the only leak and lets go fly tomorrow ASAP" test pilot en route!

      Lets hope...By the way I have around 800 hours flying a jet like this...done rocket launch, night aerobatics, 3 ship takeoffs/landings...I witnessed 4 pilots ejected successfully due to engine issues...I live in Canada now...I know there is at least one a/c here in Alberta...

    I remember seeing these from very close, flying around a small Czech airfield (LKMH) in the early nineties. We were spending weekend camping at "Drábské světničky", which are these pillar-shaped rocks where people dug little caves to hide from authorities, veeery long time ago. There used to be a rock castle up to 15th century. There's a great view of the runway from the top of those rock pillars, and left base approach to RWY 25 goes right next to the rocks. So while you're standing on the top, left-base approaching airplanes are passing just few tens of meters away from you. The rocks are amazing plane spotting areas (with a bit of a zoom lens). Unfortunately, there's very little traffic there.

    I LOVE projects like this. Using brains, experience, Google, other people, etc. to bring an old machine back to life. Most of the channels I follow do that sort of work, whether it be restoring a 1950 Caterpillar bulldozer, a 1980 helicopter, a 1947 Harley Davidson or anything that can be brought back to running. And the trust you place in someone else flying your baby is remarkable. Just a great video.

    I'm looking at that landing gear. And a question popped up in my head: Do airplane undercarriages need an alignment, like cars?
    I can imagine that the main gear could use some toe-in for stability and the front wheel can use some proper caster angle for stable straight line tracking at speed.

    • @zschwizzy
      @zschwizzy 2 роки тому +5

      Yep you got it. Most aircraft have the rudder pedals linked to the rudder as well as the nose wheel, so ensuring that the rudder and the nose wheel are aligned is a regular check!

    • @shanephillips6060
      @shanephillips6060 2 роки тому

      There is a caster adjustment, and this jet is perfect. The nose gear is a trailing link free castering and not connected to the rudder pedals

      @terry boyer a tipsy back seat driver did you see the lads smile at each other as matt rambled on about some flight details he usually inputs then trails off - booze even with food combined with height our matt was well .... tipsy .... trailing off mid speech . ..... probably threw his guts - necessitating a hand wash ..... or was so out of it going up flight steps the lads cat called and laughed at matt's leaving of his senses

    A new standard has been breached: In the Beginning, there were UA-camrs who "made it"....by buying a Mercedes Sprinter. Or a brand new House! More 'toys". But Matt said Fuck It- I'm buying a fighter jet. All I know is that it beats the shit out of a van. ps: Re: Chutes; why not just use USA rigged chutes/FAA approved?.....and leave the Chec chutes for wall art.

      @@mattguthmiller Wow. Your putting live ejection seats in the L-39. Does that make it more critical, that if you have to eject, you have to be within a certain speed/altitude for ejecting?

    You'd think that military jets are super optimized and extreme performance but it seems to me that they are always super heavy, much more than necessary so they are super wasteful to operate. Other than very messy construction that's ugly to update. So there is great potential for making a light plane with a jet engine, particularly a turbofan engine that could have comparable or even superior fuel economy to a piston plane yet able to go close to mach 1 or even above. And do 9 g maneuvers.
    The L-39 is 3.5ton empty for 2 seats. And jet engines are lighter than pistons so why the extreme weight.
    F35 is 13.2ton empty, 30 ton gross.
