The L-39 was designed solely as a trainer, but some countries have modified them for light combat missions. Built in the Czech Republic in 1960 and labeled as Albatros, it was never intended for anything more than a trainer.
tropicthndr dudeypu You are so full of shit, run the numbers and look at the take off and landing distances, I do it, what kind of BFE towns do you fucking fly into? Just a little fyi, Jet engines aren’t usually rated in horsepower, they are rate in in terms of thrust. There are exceptions to this like with a turboprop of course and with turbines used for power generation and say in ships or tanks so people don’t blow me up....I do know what I’m talking about. However, as a general rule, Jet aircraft are rated in terms of thrust and the engine that L-39C was designed around (Ivchenko AI-25TL) is about 3800 lbs if my memory serves me. Great vid, loves these birds. My hangar neighbor owns two and they are an absolute riot to fly.
Horse power? NO, NOT horse power. It is measured in what is called pounds of thrust. Some Air force jets have up to or more of 24,000 pounds of thrust.
hmm actually it have to be measured at kilograms. Feets and pounds knows only about 400 millions people. All another 7 billion people are using kilograms. This one is 1500-1700 kilograms (3500 pounds).
@@acidraindrops6657 I find it funny that people are ready to jump at MojoGrip for making the mistake of saying horsepower rather than Pounds of thrust. But its not okay for a European to call us out on saying pounds rather than Kilograms. Its hypocritical--

This one is called "flying desk", it was used (and maybe still used) by USSR as a military trainer. These seats looks like catapult one, but malfunctional...
Flew in to Hampton roads on an ifr training flight the day before the oceana airshow that started on Saturday, awesome to hear from the guy working the fuel truck who was close to my age ask if I knew your channel then him tell me you were here with the L-39pilot/owner.from what I read in the fbo they are about to start upgrading and adding on to kpvg .nice staff in the fbo but very busy airspace.please get your ifr clearance on the ground.
Dude after getting a free ride in an awesome airplane and especially seeing as the owner is a friend of yours you could of at least put up a link to the charity they support and give them a shout out in the description and in the video..
Just looking at it without being able to see under the the skin of it, its basically the two seats up front, cockpit and canopy that looks to be roomy but not hudge. The wings are nice and short but thick for zippin around like you said just in different words LoL. Then you see the rest of the fuselage and it's for the engine. Just an engine with two wings and two seats basically. LoL like a honda civic with a 350 small block in it!
I thought we were talking about a fighter in your opening statement, this is a trainer and light attack aircraft. If you say fighter, at the very least I'm thinking F-86, Mig-15 and upwards. These are a dime a dozen among jet war bird enthusiasts.
I'm guessing that this aircraft races at Reno given the race numbers on the side of the fuselage and port wing as well as the removal of the tip tanks for less drag.
Mike, I can't believe that you forgot to tell the viewers the significance of the red tail. Now you have to do a follow-up video for that. I would have thought that would be one of the primary subjects to cover.
Mike, I love your enthusiasm and passion for all things aeroplane, however I would suggest you do a great deal more study. This will give you more “cred” with actual pilots.
I've seen a couple of those out at the Stead airport just north of Reno (Reno air races). Along with a few Korean war era migs. I remember those L-39's differently, with a delta wing configuration. I could be confusing the L-39 with another plane.
you surely are confusing it, Aero Vodochody L 29/39/159/39NG look all very similar with perpendicular wings, no delta or swept or anything. kind of kinder version of a10, if you will XD
@MoJoe Grip, the back seat in a Military situation would be equipped with navigation sensors for a Navigator. To assist the Pilot in Combat, and flight Plotting. You digeeeeeee.
Is the Jump suit optional to fly this thing ? Also does anyone know if military pilots find it offensive for civilian pilots to wear jump suits ? Super jealous you get to see and fly in this beauty, keep up the good work Mike 👍
Otherwise known as Junkyard jets. You really have to have a lot of disposable income though, can we all say, heavy maintenance! Saw one for sale in Nevada for $90,000. Cheap as planes go. Upgrading the avionics, inspections, maintenance, insurance and fuel use easily triples that that figure. Finally, without a dedicated service team (military has those) up jet vs down jet could be significant. In addition, being an experimental classification, your airports can be limited as well. That said, if I had $1,000,000 of disposable income, I could be tempted. As to runway length needed, not sure about the numbers but I would guess you would need at least 4,000 feet at sea level. To be safe, margin for error, I would stick to large runways. These puppies are slick and take some doing to slow em down so landing on the backside of the power curve seems likely. See that lever on the stick, the funky Eastern block braking system! Anyway, not withstanding some technical description errors, nice review. Thank you!
You could barely contain yourself, could you? Great video man.
The L-39 was designed solely as a trainer, but some countries have modified them for light combat missions. Built in the Czech Republic in 1960 and labeled as Albatros, it was never intended for anything more than a trainer.
It was built from the start with 2 pylons iirc and mainly for training but always could be used for light attack
Can’t use jets to get into all the short fun little towns with small airports, their useless for general aviation.
Нет. Было несколько модификаций. Конкретно этот без подвески, но с более совершенным двигателем С.К. Туманского - В.А. Лотарёва. (АИ-25ТЛ)
Agreed he was just happy to say it's a combat jet.

So the ejection seat is disabled? The jet engine power is rated at pounds of thrust, not horsepower.
Thank you this was hard to watch. This guy knows nothing about jets
I think has been disabled because it ha ejected seat.
Trevor Evans he is experienced with completely different aircrafts than you do. how about you shut the fuck up

Freakin' sweet, Mike......Thanks
so much for sharing your flying journey with us!
Mojo you got a ride of a life time. Not many people get to ride in a fighter jet. I wish I could ride in one some day.
Pay $2500 an hour and there is a school that will take you up in one in the back seat.
Love that ear to ear smile! I’m sure you were not the first one to have that look on your face.....good video Thank you.
The smile on your face during T/O said it all.
Not so long time ago Aero started to produce new variant of this plane called "L39NG"
fucking beautiful
So after that 17 min walk around we get to see 20 seconds of flight footage. Fine!
Tbh flight footage on youtube is dime a dozen. I like to see the details.
He made this for aviation enthusiasts not people who just want to see a cool looking plane fly around. lol.
He made a separate video of flying it

Eject eject Mike :) Nice video
Nick you have to step up your helicopter game now
Funny you should say that. I thought of it the whole time during my flight.
Just add three hard points for one centerline and two underwing drop tanks and you’ll have a first class long range biz Jet!
Thanks for sharing
Beautiful plane!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
The Albatross. Lucky dog! This aircraft should have ejection seats. This is so cool.
Mike, it's going to take you a long time to get the smile off your face after that L39 flight!
So you’re Nigerian? That’s cool. I’ll give you a hug whenever I see you (COVID allowing)! Proud of you bro.
Mike That’s Awesome Brother ... gotta admit I’m a little jealous 😂😂 glad you enjoyed it!
Keep em coming!
Boy, bet its a kick to get a go in that jet. Thanks for sharing.

If I have a million dollars and a midlife crisis ima see about buying one of these lol
Ok first thing that popped into my head seeing you in the plane was “he looks like Sundown from Top Gun.”
No offense
I should try that
If ypu are a new pilot and only flew a cessna, can you fly one of these fighter jets?
Turbine engine is rated in Shift Horsepower. But in a real jet it go by foot pound of thrust.
Вы можете измерять в чем вам удобно. Мы измеряем в кгс или kN. для этого двигателя Тяга взлётная 1500 кгс
, Тяга крейсерская ~450 кгс
wayneyd2 no bro foot pounds is what torque is measured in. The unit for thrust is pounds.
If I owned a plane like this I be a taxi for businessmen or women who miss there important flight.
Anyone know what the protocol is for bailing out of a jet like this? I’d be absolutely terrified of hitting the tail. Seems sketchy at the very least.
Front and Rear ejection seats.
So is there an ejection seat?
I doubt it's activated by a flip up switch lol
Does it have afterburner
Tips have been modified. Doesn’t that make it a different variant of the L-39???
