Big thanks for your kind coverage Stealth! To add a few things to your video as a comment - yes air ops-related dialogs & damage-related functions were not considered final enough to be included to this small humble slice and are in the menu as dead weight, and some others - like the report on contacts - are sorta incomplete (the ones you had on the map were not touched by fog of war in terms of location, but absolutely were in terms of aircraft number estimates). Sorry perhaps for not documenting it clearly enough in the readme ^^ Cheers and big thanks again for your time!
Allow me to add another little thing - I see in the comments that people are worrying about performance. I can give an idea of how it runs on a given configuration right now if it can help give some comfort to some of you out there. Here are the latest requirement tests on a medium-low range configuration by 2023 standards The game has been tested on a laptop with these characteristics: Core i5-7300HQ (2017) nVidia GTX 1050 with 536.67 drivers (2017) 6GB of RAM With a Resoluton of 1920 * 1080, and "Clouds downsampling" to 2, it runs between 30 and 50 FPS depending on what's on screen. In 720p, framerate hits 60fps Under these conditions, the game is GPU-limited, so you'll still be able to use time compression. Tested with 20+ ships & 150+ aircraft in play. Hope it will ease the worries among some of you. Cheers!
@@DrydockDreamsGameshello dry dockdreamgames I’m very excited for your game and love watching your updates whenever they come out I have a steam deck and it’s the game I looking forward to the most so you think it will be compatible with the steam deck?
@@DrydockDreamsGames If that spec runs it with that fps. Just wow. That is fairly good i think. Keep doing what you are doing. Cant wait to see the final product.
Guys, pls let us Naval geeks in early acces ... I don't care it's not finished ... As a formar merchant navy cadet I do have some experience with ships and I can't wait for this game (Steam Handle is Lord Icedewd)
16:25 The SBD gunner retracts the gun during the dive and takes it back out once finished. Such an amazing, yet small, detail. Props to DrydockDreamsGames!
Aye ^^ thanks for noticing that. Unfortunately not final just yet (we should retract the guns without closing the canopy to be honest...) but right now guns & canopy are connected to some extent. It will be improved upon.
Dang, first thing I noticed was how awesome this game looks… Like, the wake and waves the ship makes look amazing, and they look so real! (They look like they are actually the same water as around, not just like a different texture pasted on top of the rest…)
What I immediately like is that the devs have made a tech demo BEFORE putting up a Kickstarter, not the other way around. Never heard of this project before but now I'm watching.
There's hope yet for the gaming industry. I hope the amount of failed launches by various developers lately (often due to pressure from publishers) has had an impact on the decisions on how launches are carried out going forward.
Seeing this made me remember Battlestations Pacfic. Back then I was captivated by the visuals and the strategic thinking that was required. You could create formations and send them around. Also take control of individual units, both ships, aircraft and submarines. Although in TF Admiral you can't control individual units directly it does already look stunning and beeing able to set up and control formations and the level of detail the devs are planing to implement have me hooked. In an earlier video from I-don't-know-when I saw this game already and immediately put it on my wishlist on steam. I think it was even one of your vids if my memory doesn't fail me.
nearly 19 minutes of screaming let me buy this game. Amazing work from devs! Thanks for showcasing us this very promising and good looking game Stealth
Each new video Drydock puts up on UA-cam gets me more and more excited! And I think this is the 3rd time I've written this identical comment over the last few years.. :P
im waiting for that game like 2 years or so when i saw it first on youtube. haven't looked for new stuff about it for some time. nice to see some battles :D
The game looks picture perfect. All it needs is ww2 camera filter and you're golden. The torpedo and bomb impacts on the water look beautiful. Same with the wakes in the water from the ships looks like what you find in real life photos. The game from a UI perspective reminds me of DCS somewhat I wonder if that's something they are going for. I do hope that it carries that Battlestations midway/Pacific feel with it. We so desperately need a new game like them. War on the sea looks like its progressed quite well since your videos went up. Been watching a few youtuber's series on game. Maybe it could be worth having another look at it?
A WW2 and other camera filters have been confirmed to be available in the final game. As much as I’d love a new Battlestations-like game (especially since Pacific can’t even be played on PC anymore), that doesn’t seem to be the feel they are going for in my opinion. War on the Sea development has actually been paused. There are several really good mods available that expand the game past the Guadalcanal campaign
I love the reaction when he opens up the squadron breakdown of the TBD-1 Squadrons and just goes. "Thats a LOT of dead torpedo bombers..." Mainly because those statistics are pretty on point for Devastator losses. Barely any of them would ever drop their ordinance, and when they did the Good Ol' Mk13 torpedo had a bad tendency to malfunction. So far, I'm loving this game. Been following the development since about a year ago and I'm only getting more excited.
Devs plan to have a 'playable slice' released before the end of this year (e.g. Playable Scenario, e.g. Battle of Coral Sea, or like a section of a battle (Like 8 May 1942) Who can gain access, play this 'playable slice' and the requirements to participate are still being finalized. However, there should be news coming soon :) So get even more excited Commander :)
I checked out the steam page, and find out it's a MicroProse game? You should've led with that! But seriously, every time I see that name I'm taken back to playing Mechwarrior 3 as a kid in the 90s and early 2000s. I didn't even realize until comparatively recently how many other big titles they've been involved with.
I've been watching this one closely since it was first announced. Every month there's new stuff to see, a very small team so it'll take some time to get there... but damn will it be worth it. Definitely a kickstarter I'll be supporting!
When I first looked at the thumbnail and saw you uploaded, I was so excited UAD finally added carrier's. But this game looks even better and hopefully has less issues. Can't wait to actually see how you conduct your forces.
From the opening view of the Enterprise ploughing through the sea, I was taken back to “Task Force 42” and “Pacific Air War”. Don't agree with comparison to "Battle stations Midway”, but a combination of all three and 'I'm purchasing in EA or Day 1, however it is first released.
Thanks for the update. Looks like an absolutely amazing game. Going to be one of my favorites for sure. Edit: I already have it wishlisted, though I did click the link as you requested.
It' doesn't really look like a spiritual successor the Battlestations series, the mechanics are pretty different. You don't control ships and their guns directly
This game has been on my wishlist for what seems like years, and, after seeing this, I'm now super hyped. Like you mentioned in your video, games like this are very thin on the ground, so it is going to be a very welcome game for people like me, who are crazy about naval strategy games. Looks like DrydockDreamsGames have made some great progress, and it is all looking very promising indeed. Looking forward to seeing more, and to seeing the actual release of this title.
This isnt the demo :) Devs hope to have a 'playable slice' release before the end of 2023. This may include a full scenario (Coral Sea) or part of a Scenario (e.g. 8 May 1942 Battle of Coral Sea). More details on who can gain access to this playable slice, how far it will be released and other details havent been fully decide on, but i have a feeling things are getting close. Stay tuned Commander :)
Been looking forward to this game but the one line in this entire video around 2:00 in that got me hyped, is if this eventually plays like Battlestations midway/pacific at any point in the future. Instantly a backer when it hits kickstarter, looks great!
There are several games that let you take control of various bits, mostly infantry / tanks / airplanes in more *ground war* setting. This might be first with a real naval focus.
Damn, this looks absolutely fantastic. May they take as long as they need with this beauty. Very excited for this and "Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age". What a time to be alive with these types of games in development.
It is sooo realistic looking that I got goosebumps looking at the torpedoes heading for the Hornet, and that divebombing run, man that was so cool to see the Japanese carrier on fire!
Oh wow, the game looks remarkable from prior playtesting. I really enjoyed the demo but was certainly left wanting more and excited about what the studio wanted to do. Glad to see they're still cooking.
You said it’s not supposed to be any particular battle, but it’s damn near the Battle of Santa Cruz. Task force 16 and 17 (Enterprise and Hornet) against Shokaku and Zuikaku, at the Santa Cruz Islands. Only thing off is the date being several months early and some of the cruisers and destroyers are different.
Very interesting! 1. Ah, the Myoko's 3rd 'suicide' turret. Ultimate failure in design. Glad to see that Worcester or Mogami class did not follow this pattern. 2. Due to the fuel difference, often it was able to see which airplane is taken down. Color of the flame and smoke were different when they got shot down. 3. Visual and ship/airplane models look amazing. Zuikaku have working side funnels which made no benefit to the IJN. Also, Glad to see the diving flap spreads like real ones. Few things I wish to see in future: 1. Working ship damage indicator(And repair order maybe?) 2. Indicator for Which ship got hit. Especially your side. Action log maybe? 3. Indicator for How many planes were in certain squadron, and how many are surviving. Such as 25/48 (25 planes are in action out of initially launched 48) 4. Damaged AA or efficiency. Some games disable the main guns but no matter how much the ship is burning and damaged, AA still works. Unless ship is actually sinking, all the AA works and shoots down enemy plane like nothing is happening though whole ship is being burning like mountain fire. This is nuts. battle of Bismarck sea, Beaufighters(20mm x 4 + 6.72mm x 6) and B-25s(50 cal x 8) modified as gunship with multiple machine guns at their noses, successfully crippled the Anti-Air, Radio and radio capability. Made Japanese as sitting duck by strafing the rain of bullets. This small caliber attacks cannot disable the big guns or sink the ships but did certainly made the later bombing easy. I wish to see this. 5. Unlatched torpedo explosion fireball. Especially Japanese long lance Type-93 oxygen torpedo was threat to the US Navy and often bigger threat to the IJN. IJN Mikuma had horrible ending with this pattern. 6. Dumping the torpedo/bomb and fill the fuel line with CO2. Often used by US ships. Despite, it will lose lots of valuable ammo and cripple the ship movement, it saved several USS ships from IJN bombing. After USS ship got hit by Japanese bomb, repair was much easier since there was no chain reaction of blast or fire. 7. MESA/Linux support
I’ve been following this game’s Facebook page for awhile, this is truly a work of art and amazing passion project. Agreed it reminds me of the Battlestations games!
I am so excited for this game. Between this and Sea Power we will have all the naval action we need pretty soon! In the meantime I will be playing SH3!
The plane AI acts a bit strange (fighters apparently passive when fired upon, dive bombers making too many circles before diving, etc) That second torpedo which may or may not have hit Hornet is pretty strange, hard to say if it was a bug or simply a dud. Its trails disappeared which seems like a graphical bug. Other than that the game looks pretty good
This looks fire. Too bad our country had a coup last year which fucekd the economy thus resulting in extremely expensive..... well everything. My potato laptop can't run this but I do admire the hard work of the studio behind it. ps. We live in a society
As someone who’s been on their discord for a while, this is truly a love letter by the devs to the carriers of WW2. They are going to the point that each squadron will have unique and correct paint scheme’s depending on the ship and battle. However, they are also really good about trying to temper expectations instead of promising more then they can deliver, which I wish more devs did.
Argh! I wish it were further along. I have it on my Steam wish list. I've loved carrier games ever since I played Avalon Hill's Midway over 50 years ago.
Hey Stealth! If you enjoy building and managing your navy maybe RTW3 could be interesting! Its mostly a "spreadsheet" type game where you manage, design , order and then lead the forces into battle from a top down view
Interesting, looking game. If historically accurate then American torpedo bombers will be very slow making them get shot down more easily. I think the Americans usually paired them with dive bombers and fighters to cover their approach but I am not sure. Torpedo bombers had to fly very low to drop their torpedoes, if I remember correctly, but their slow speed made them very vulnerable. However, what was worse for them was the reliability of the torpedoes that they were using. Some of them were very unreliable in terms if they would travel correctly and denoted properly.
LIke probably many others, I've had this game wishlisted for well over two years already, and while there's progress, release (even as EA) is still not imminent. And I'm completely okay with that! I want them to take their time and put full priority on "getting it right". Other WW2 Pacific naval games have been quite good, but also "not quite there yet", in blending truly satisfying strategic/operational level, tactical level, realism, historical accuracy, and visual fidelity in a smooth-running, technically-well-executed product. I fervently hope that TFA is the one which finally ties it all together...and if it is, I'm happy to wait as long as it takes (and has already taken) to realize that vision. Perhaps that's an unrealistically high expectation, but even if TFA does fall a little short of it, it already looks like it's going to noticeably advance the "state of the art" in this (admittedly small/niche) genre.
Early access (a.k.a What the devs are calling a 'playable slice') is planned to be released before the end of 2023. To what extent this 'playable slice' will be(e.g. Full Battle of Coral Sea, or part of a scenario 8 May 1942 Coral Sea stuff) as well as to the release extent (who can get to play, what is required etc) is still be decided on.
I wish it was a recording! That would mean that our replay system works already ^^ But it ain't the case, it is just the scenario playing itself (with sensible differences each time based on the result of combat of course). As such, I can reassure you, x10 or x20 when planes are shooting a little less at each other (or x40+ when there's nobody flying) is achieved under actual realtime gameplay conditions. Cheers :)
Big thanks for your kind coverage Stealth!

No, they would cruise at altitude and then drop low for their runs. If they were low the whole way then they’d be in even easier targets for fighters

However, they are also really good about trying to temper expectations instead of promising more then they can deliver, which I wish more devs did.
Argh! I wish it were further along. I have it on my Steam wish list. I've loved carrier games ever since I played Avalon Hill's Midway over 50 years ago.
It has been nearly or more than 3 years I guess since I follow this game's development. Along side Sea Power from the same publisher, MicroProse.
i really we can get a game like PTO4. I remember playing that on PS2 and i love the shit out of that game
Can't wait.
Hey Stealth! If you enjoy building and managing your navy maybe RTW3 could be interesting!
Its mostly a "spreadsheet" type game where you manage, design , order and then lead the forces into battle from a top down view
It's the spreadsheet nature that I don't like. I need more graphics
Modern version with a super carrier would be awesome.
The dev was in their discord talking about his horror at just how bad the American torpedoes were not too long ago lol
That is the music playing at the 8:10 mark and onwards?
Been awhile since we have heard anything on task force admiral.
I didn’t know “micropose “ fell into the “ small indie category” , but as a fan of carrier command 2, I have high hopes for this.
Looks really good. Defo buy.
I played the heck out of tf1942 a long time ago im exited for this
seen this in the 2018 midway was epic
Nice!
Is North Carolina available for the set game period?
Oh yes she will for sure! Showboat herself & Washington both.
@@DrydockDreamsGames One for enterprise and one for hornet, nothing gonna get through.
this game looks really good and I cant wait to play it myself. Will it be possible to play as the japanese too, to get some replayability?
Playable IJN (Japanese Navy) is planned for Volume II.
the fact that it is stable at times 10 speed is most likely due to it not being a "real battle" but just a recording of it,
I wish it was a recording! That would mean that our replay system works already ^^
But it ain't the case, it is just the scenario playing itself (with sensible differences each time based on the result of combat of course). As such, I can reassure you, x10 or x20 when planes are shooting a little less at each other (or x40+ when there's nobody flying) is achieved under actual realtime gameplay conditions.
Cheers :)
oh yeah battlestations midway/pacific awesome games when you said that memories came up again
I can’t wait for this game
Lovely graphics
Beautiful.
patreons and sponsors are the proof that creators don't get paid enough
can we land the plane on the carriers ourselves (First Person control for planes) ?
Is this like a Battlestations Midway / Pacific successor?
I really want a naval combat game where you play online as a individual crew member kinda like tanks in hell let loose but battle ships
Like Foxhole but for naval?
There website said surface actions were possible too, curious to know the mechanics of that
this game loooks quite familiar to the war at sea game which i liked alot, especially its carrier command. is it the same devs?
No, this is a completely different crew and group.
