Another tense and fun mission to watch. For some reason I always like to see coastal installations in play. Out of curiosity I looked up the mass of some oil rigs. They can vary between 10,000 up to 200,000 tons, and I assume that is mostly the super-surface aspect of them. Given that they have no hull to really flood (if you are, by necessity, aiming at stuff above its waterline), I guess it makes sense that the otherwise spectacular Harpoon doesn't instakill these huge installations.
Hate to break it to you Stealth, but real oil platforms take a lot to kill, in fact in 1988 the US navy pumped over 1000 5 inch shells to an oil platform in the person gulf and was eventually forced to deploy a demolition team to it before it was destroyed. This is because of their structure; most of the oil platform is just open air with steel lattice work so they're not very susceptible to random high explosive shells.
Mission 5 might be possible and I've seen it done but there is a Charlie within 25 miles at the start of the mission. I believe it makes the first detection that triggers all tje missiles if you try to go to fast. Then you have to sacrifice tje f4s to get the bear.
I just used the standard missile vs the oil platform and ground targets. They deal with them instantly and the guns are soooo underwhelming. Accuracy vs a moving ship, okay. But a stationary target and 98% of the shells miss? Kinda sad.
Was coming to say this as well, but I don’t know if there are different difficulty levels and, if so, on what level Wolfpack345 played. Of course, there’s always just luck.
Oil rig at Balikpapan. Well, as much as i remember there's no such a thing at 2024. And i double checked the Google map, still can't see something resembles an offshore oil rig. There are inland oil fields, i think it is an old Dutch oil field. It has history during WW2, it contributes to the sinking of Japanese capital ships. Since Japanese using unrefined oils from there at the end of the war, like things went bad for Japanese, so they couldn't bring the oil safely to their primary refineries. Unrefined oils with high volatility and high salt content. Or so, what i've read somewhere in the internet. Back to the video, i was thinking to see a long range engagement at Makassar strait. It turns out, that the seemingly 'narrow' strait of Makassar is big enough to make the radar pickup showing a closer range naval combat like back then in the WW2. Like the US vs Japanese landing forces.
the osas fired ssn9 at you in the begining because you used your ship to request ID, which broke emcon bcuz they used radio. try requesting ID from an awacs or aircraft next time
I don't mean to be rude or anything, just offering some constructive criticism. Sometimes it feels like you're trying to make a good video and get too far behind the scenario. You let very important detections go unnoticed for too long or are too slow in responding to action. Few examples I noticed: 8:1113:3015:50 you JUST watched it shoot a missile. Why request ID? Twice?? Merchants don't carry missiles.
See, now this is how you offer tough criticism without being a raging sphincter - You got a +1 from me, man: Good on ya for being a decent human being ;)
That A-7 not stalling at 122 knots in vertical flight, I love it how the game bends the rules of physics ;-)
The devs really need to do some work lol
@@MungoMcGhee Air Combat is not this game's strongsuit
I meaan if you got enough thrust lift doesnt matter 😂 F15 👀 the A7s leaf blower does not 😂
Missiles coming at him
"Those are doing 33 knots, those are definitely hostile"😁

Oil platforms are huge. You can’t just expect to sink them with a few shells. They don’t act and float like regular ships
Yeah, but they are highly flammable, unlike ships.
@@ryanpayne7707and a bit more volatile too, couple well placed shot and you got yourself a disabled rig and new environmental disaster
It bares 2 AGM-62 and 4 RGM-84 and possible hundreds of 5in' shells. Bit too ridiculous.
@@FukaiRei27 tell that to USS KID and USS NOEL (Oct 20, 1987).
Fun fact....a walleye without a warhead was the first target destroyed by a ciws during initial testing

Thanks for all ur time and effort put into the content. Great episode as always stealth17
Another great episode and may I say some of your one liners are hilarious 😂
Thanks!
Enjoyed this episode a lot man! I love the scenarios where you hit land targets too
Oiii... No fighting on my backyard!
Watched and Liked 👍
I guess stall speed isn't a thing in 'Sea Power' lol

Just a thought, but maybe the Walleyes were supposed to be for the oil rigs.
☝💯

13:39 best soundtrack hands down . That music playing is awesome. Maybe they need to buff guns .they shouldn't be that weak
I think mission 5 is impossible, I certainly can’t survive the first five minutes and the steam comments section seems to agree
Wolfpack345 managed to do this with the loss of only 2 aircraft
Came here to say this.
Wolfpack does it with the loss of 2 F4s
But who knows when he actually played the mission and what game build it was on
Was coming to say this as well, but I don’t know if there are different difficulty levels and, if so, on what level Wolfpack345 played. Of course, there’s always just luck.
The secret for Mission 5 seems to be to remain in EMCON and use aircraft as your eyes
@@Hawkathon wasn't that an awac plane was spawned for you too?
I wonder how the walleyes would do against the oil platforms. Maybe that's what was intended
It is basically Operation Praying Mantis

Love your chanel, but abit more sub mission would be fun.. When play as the subcommader.
You'd ideally wanna send in SEALs to take the oil rigs. Can you deploy SF in this game?
Yes you can set a trigger event in mission editor

Ordered to destroy Oil Rigs and then Court-Martialled for causing an environmental disaster?
Hypocritical High Command much?
