I'm not a big fan of flour tortillas but I do love corn ones. I get them at my local Mexican grocery store and it's ingredient list is about 5 things. Thanks for the video!
@@thesharpestofthorns___9132 not all of them , hand-made flour tortillas are better or the brand “Tia Rosa” but I don’t see that one anymore at the store ms here in USA
I actually learned so much, I'll be checking labels more often for other packaged foods. I love the content on this channel, you don't butcher health into our minds, it's all a matter of mind over munch; a choice.
El Milagro makes corn tortillas that have 3 ingredients...corn, water and lime. They are the cleanest tortillas I have found so far. Also they don't use GMOs.
These might be sold as Trader Joe's house brand. The only difference is that Trader Joe's does not say anything about GMO's on the package. As a bonus, the package is less than a dollar where I live.
Original tortillas are made of corn, they have more health benefits and less processed ingredients. Also they are less fatty. Flour or "Tortillas de Harina" are original from the north of México and in places like La Paz they also have milk. Those are the best in my opinion (taste better and also have a bit more health benefits) I'm not sure how you can get them in the US but in México they are pretty much everywhere.
thanks to you you are so nice for answering !Realy apreciate it! I have my friends hook up in your channel since i discovered it! Lots of love form México!
Laura Cortés tortillas de leche? No las ubico, nomas hay en la Paz? Soy de sonora y pss están las de harina, manteca y agua pero ni había escuchado de leche, que rico jajaja
+Mind Over Munch my favorite tortillas are the uncooked ones from TortillaLand! For me, a short list of ingredients (and being able to pronounce everything) is super important. The stats aren't too terrible either. Flour (47g): 140 cal, 4g fat, 23 carbs, 3g protein, and they are only made from (in order) wheat flour, water, canola oil, salt and sugar. Corn (40g): 60 cal, 0.5g fat, 13g carbs (1g fiber), 1g protein, and they are made from water, corn masa, salt, lime, and guar gum. They taste so fresh and amazing! And the are ready in about a minute. Yummy! Thanks for the great video! I now know what net carbs mean!
I watched your bread video and it changed the way I read food ingredients. I try for the less is more attitude and it's greatly changed how I buy food. My family is much happier with food! Thank you and keep these coming! There is a great wrap at Trader Joe's (may even be their brand) that has only a couple ingredients and are super yummy! I made quesadilla's for my son and he's in heaven!
Kate Peak that's so great! I'm so glad you found it useful and are able to apply some of those principles to daily life! Fantastic, thank you :) Also thanks for the heads up on the Trader Joe's tortillas! I'll keep an eye out! :) Cheers!
This video is fantastic Alyssa. I didn't know about the order of ingredients and their significance. Amazing what you learn. It's interesting about the hidden ingredients and if you aren't aware, how you can actually fall in a hole and be tricked. Thank you so much for this information, it was so very helpful for me and I'll be looking out for these types of things here in Australia and the products they have on the shelves. Much appreciated girl.
FitAnge S You are so welcome! Yes, they do try to trick us by using all of these health claims! Sometimes the healthiest choices are products that don't make any claims at all, and the only way to know is by reading the label. Unfortunately, they make even that very hard... this is one reason so many people are gaining weight and unable to make progress when they think they're being healthy... These companies make it so difficult to really know what we're eating! Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate you!
Ever since I'm watching your videos about taking time to look at Nutrition Facts, I've been taking my time whenever I go to the store. I had to check the calories and ingredients every time since not every package that says healthy is actually healthy! Thanks for this! You and Sarah are the best! *thumbsup*
Loved this! I personally like the whole wheat tortillas from Trader Joes the best. They literally just have whole wheat, sunflower oil, honey, baking powder, yeast and salt. They are like $3 and freeze well.
+Mind Over Munch I love to stock up on tortillas at Trader Joe's because theirs are cheap. I get the Ezikiel for wraps but I need white flour tortillas for burritos or I start mentally swearing at gringos (which is weird since I'm white) and their tortillas have no hydrogenated oils, though it does have palm oil, and I really try to avoid gmos. It is sooooo hard to avoid those oil culprits in allllll the other tortillas in the regular store. Trader Joe's, the only place I've found it.
Yes, I'm sure she mentioned that before on one of her recent videos as well. Some viewers were concerned it was a bad weather but Alyssia explained it was indeed a fountain. :)
That was the best intro I've seen on similar health videos. Kudos to you for pointing out what ppls personal diet deems healthy is what dictates the healthiest option and that you are just empowering with ingredient information
loved this! its also important to note the actual ingredients, I wouldn't touch anything with partially or fully hydrogenated oils, no matter the nutrition label. That's where companies fool you, people are too focused on calories and not focused on the quality of food they're eating. You chose the best one not using those ingredients...The sodium count on these are so high - I found that CORN tortilla are best in terms of whole grains and low sodium, toast em up and they're fabulous!
Lisa Spirito Thats a great tip, I'll have to try toasting a corn tortilla :) Thank you! Yes, ingredients always win. I try to think about what I am putting into my body rather than "how much" when it comes to macros.
it's great how 8 years later this is still so relevant, maybe more so? and couldn't find any other video that exaplined it as well as you did. so thank you.
i literally have been waitting to find someone to make content like this forever..in complete love with your videos.keep up the great work señorita!!💃😆
That is THEEEEE best exclamation of tortillas I've ever heard. Thank you for taking the confusion out of this product. I've been eating the mission carb balance for wraps instead of using bread for sandwiches. I will look for the La Banderita brand now.
kelley chiang you are welcome! I am so glad you found it useful! There are other brands that are good choices too but you have to read the label!! :) Cheers!
lots of great info. I started cardiac rehab today, I have diabetes and I meet with a dietitian on Monday. Thank you so much for all the great info. Have a great night
Ole Mexican Foods makes the Xtreme Wellness High Fiber Low Carb whole wheat flour tortilla; for a 45 gram serving, it's only 50 calories , has 11 grams of fiber and only 1.5 grams of fat. Net carbs are 5 grams (16 total). Made in America. A nutritional bargain.
Thank you very much for the details you put into this. I do read the ingredients and get heart broken when I realize some of my old favorites are not very good for me or just don't process through my system well anymore. Thank you for your honest opinion of the Ezekiel tortillas. I may still pick up a small pack to try.
I would say the healthiest option is actually also the cheapest. Just take masa harina and water and cook on the stove. Theres also tortilla makers but a skillet will work too. It takes marginally more work because obviously you actually have to go out of your way to heat them on the stove and they probably don't have quite as long of a shelf life. But the bottom line is you get a product that is literally only two ingredients. One of which is water.... sooo. I don't really know the macros or micros or whatever but its the traditional way of making it and i cant imagine it being worse than buying pre packaged.
This was really helpful thanks! I'm that one person who takes 10 minutes in the bread aisle looking at the nutrition labels of tortillas haha. Now I'll be able to find what I'm looking for faster :)
So glad you did this--many people are easily mislead by labels and health claims. Unfortunately for me, most flour/multigrain tortillas contain soy and because soy and I don't get along, I stick to corn tortillas (which I can make at home). My quest continues for a soyless tortilla.
I just found your channel a few days ago and I've been binge watching a lot of your videos! I'm really into counting my macros and knowing what goes into my food. I've been pretty dedicated to make choices that fuel my body for about 2 years straight now! I do have to say you've opened my eyes to watching my sodium intake, and I can't wait to see other ideas/inspo that I can get from you! Thanks for putting out amazing content. Love, your newest subscriber. :)
Thank u so so much for making this video! It's so interesting and informative!!! I eat spinach wraps all the time and I really wish food labels weren't so misleading. Now I know that they're not as healthy as I thought
Thank you for this video, I was in the new Weis a few days ago looking at tortillas, and I had trouble deciphering between the different options, I just went for whole wheat. Now I know, lol thank you!
thank you for this! i have stayed away from tortillas so much because i could never find one with good nutrition facts. i will definitely keep an eye out for the ezekiel ones! 😊
So much great info on label reading. Thank you. I think the Ezekiel brand is something I could try. I like that the ingredients list is so small plus no hydrogenated oils:))
Great video I have to pay attention to Fat and carbs from my gallbladder surgery I have used Ezekiel Bread for years because of my diabetes I didn’t know they made tortillas too it’s a bit high on fat but it might be tolerable depending what I fill it with thanks
Thank you SO much for dedicating your time to bring attention to good eating choices AND by showing us how to figure it out ourselves, (very important) !
+Ronni R My pleasure! Thank YOU so much for watching and understanding that I'm here to help people help themselves, not to tell them what to do :) Cheers!
I love how informative this was! You should do much much more and make it a series on comparing food items and their health options....just like you did with the pasta sauce in your vlog! :-)
Thank you for the tortilla nutritional breakdown! I loved it! I have always struggled with these when I go shopping! The bread video is also fantastic!
I usually eat corn tortillas but I do buy. A brand called Ole Xtreme wellness High fiber low carb. On front says no hydrogenated oils, no sugar added. It has 50 cal, 1.5 total fat, 16v carbs, 11g fiber, no sugar and 4g protein. First 3 ingredients are whole wheat flour, water, cellulose flour. Still not the best but the macros are good.
There's a healthy wrap I use called "Let's Skip the Sandwich". Their wraps are 60 calories a wrap too. I was surprised it wasn't in your video but still love you videos! :)
Thanks for the information. I don’t eat tortillas that often, so even consuming the worst on the list probably won't make much of an impact on my body, but I really try to make good choices anyway.
It's awesome that you're taking an interest in your health and nutrition! Always better to make good choices when we can! Glad this was useful for you :)
What are you going to do with all those tortillas?😂 Thanks for all your vids Alyssia, you're always a joy to watch. I just wanted to share this book I've been reading called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver; it's taught me a lot about local food vs conglomerate food, vegans vs non vegans (it's not what you think!!) and other stuff. You probably won't really be interested in it cos it's more the environmental and social and economical aspect of food rather than its nutritional aspect. But just wanted to share my findings with someone I respect! This is now my favourite book.
Lol! I actually returned them 😁 it was easier than going to the store and trying to film in the tortilla aisle because we did that for the bread episode and got kicked out of a few stores before succeeding lol!! 😂 thank you for the book recommendation, I'll look into it! Much appreciated 💜 cheers!
If you’re going for a more processed tortilla I use the Ole extreme wellness tortillas. They are low in carbs, and high in fiber, no added sugars, and no fat.
Hey Alyssia! I love your videos and I've been binge watching them for the last couple of weeks to get through all of them. You and Christian are amazing at what you do! Keep up the good work!!! Question... do you have any tips/info on corn tortillas?
+ladythickythick Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel :) Corn tortillas are a great choice! Especially because most only require 3 ingredients :) Just check out the label for serving size as sometimes corn tortillas are higher in calories for the smaller size, which isn't necessarily bad, but just good to be aware :) Cheers!
i love your videos so much, you've helped me a lot because I'm trying to eat healthy and u make some really good points and great tips! very informative:)
interesting video. I have seen a recipe for tortillas made with cauliflower which has very low carb content. I've not tried it, but have tried making a pizza base with cauliflower, which was great :-)
Hey Alyssia! I use Ole Mexican Xtreme Wellness Low Carb Tortilla Wraps and I saw that you have also purchased them before in one of your food hauls. Taste wise, do you think Ole Mexican or La Banderita tortillas are better? I'm trying to find the most bang for my tastebuds on my weight loss mission. Thanks!
Yes! I but the Ole Mexican Xtreme Wellness ones too, I sort of go by what's available or on sale. I think the La Banderita ones are slightly better macro-wise but I'd have to look at the label for sure to know. With the tips in this video you can do that yourself too! :)
excellent video miss Alissia I definitely am going to look for LA Banderita brand I'm using The LA tortilla factory brand's there good but I see you didn't mention them here so nextime I'll keep my eyes open thank you again have a wonderful day 😊
roselin8882 The la tortilla factory ones could be great! I haven't tried them but that doesn't mean a thing- apply the notes I shared here to look at the label for yourself and determine if it's right for you :) Cheers!
also, i'm not sure if this is a local brand in my area but we have these tortillas that come raw, and you have to cook them as you use them. They have like 6 o 7 ingredients and they're pretty good! They're in the refrigerator section :)
OLE Xtreme Wellness are the most recent tortillas I've purchased. High fiber low carb. 50 calories, 1.5 g fat, 16 carbs, 11g fiber, 4g protein. Whole wheat flour. I found them at Wal-Mart.
My favorite is Food For Life Brown Rice Tortillas. They do not work well for burritos because they are very crisp, but they make the most wonderful base for pizza. Skipping all that pizza dough is a good thing!
Two tortillas that come to mind that I would love to know more about are the Flat Out and Ole extreme. I would love to see more videos about products that make health claims. I hope you make this a regular series!
Yea! I haven't tried flat out but I've had Ole Xtreme Wellness before and the stats on those are good if I remember correctly! Thanks so much for watching, more to come!! 😀
Mind over munch, thank you for your videos. Really enjoy them xx. Random Q. what do you do with all the products that you buy? do you just eat them or take them back for a refund?
So this weekend I'm going to cheer camp and I want to eat as healthy as I can. So for the one lunch I was going to provide I was going to make a healthy chicken wrap. But my mom and sister got regular flour tortillas and I don't want to consume that. Any other substitution options hat won't get soggy on the bus. PS I LOVE YOU AND THIS VIDEO
Shannon Kimsal A flour tortilla isn't a terrible option, especially if it's just once in a while :) You could always eat the filling of the wrap like a salad, or make a salad in a jar if you prefer! OR you could bring the filling and bring lettuce wraps to eat with it instead of a flour tortilla :) Cheers!!
if you're a Diabetic please remember that Fiber Carbs does not raise blood sugar and can be ignored, but if you're on a low carb diet or keto then you may want to take note
if you want a tortillas that low in calories, carbs, AND fat, try Joseph's Lavash bread. It's a flat bread that's VERY close to the texture of a tortilla and fits those goals very well.
I personally like the small Mission White Corn Tortilla. Serving size is two tortillas at 47g. It is 100 Calories, 1.5g Total Fat, 0g Cholesterol, 0g Sodium, 20g Total Carb, 3g Dietary Fiber, & 2g Protein. Has 8 ingredients total. First ingredient corn masa flour. Then water. Then 2% or less of the preservative ingredients.
I'm starting keto and I need to keep my carbs under 20g. Sounds like La Banderita is my best option then right? The Ezekiel one has more nutrients but it'll throw me over my net carbs in one meal.
found the low carb tortilla yesterday :) you have been very helpful so far I lost 88 pounds but have been stuck for awhile since following you I've been watching the ingredients and lost 3 more pounds lol
so what i learned from doing Keto years back is that net carbs are important to look at when following a low-carb diet because the fiber cannot be digested for fuel in your body. Of course, fiber is still important in our nutrition but I was taught that those carbs were not burned for calories like the other carbohydrates. Quest bars, for example, market net carbs because many low carb dieters (who are their prime target groups) already subtract fiber from total carb counts in order to track their carb intake. I don't think it's purely marketing ploy, I think for people trying to follow a low carb diet it is important to know what net carbs means
Net carbs matter to diabetics. After the fiber is subtracted, it lets them know the remaining carbs that will have an impact on blood sugar. Diabetics should be carb counting each meal and stay within certain amount of carbs per meal and snack. They can also subtract half the sugar alcohols, but many times they are not listed. I am an RN and I teach diabetics to make healthier carb choices. I certainly don't know everything, and I always learn so much from your videos. Thank you for what you do!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you sharing your great points! :)

thank you for this! i have stayed away from tortillas so much because i could never find one with good nutrition facts. i will definitely keep an eye out for the ezekiel ones! 😊
Jasmin Mireles yeah! You are welcome, thank you for watching!
So much great info on label reading. Thank you.
I think the Ezekiel brand is something I could try. I like that the ingredients list is so small plus no hydrogenated oils:))
Cheryl Hock yes! Me too!! Thanks for watching :)
Ezekial tortillas!!! I knew it😀Just like the ezekial bread😍😍😍
Great video I have to pay attention to Fat and carbs from my gallbladder surgery I have used Ezekiel Bread for years because of my diabetes I didn’t know they made tortillas too it’s a bit high on fat but it might be tolerable depending what I fill it with thanks

+Ronni R My pleasure! Thank YOU so much for watching and understanding that I'm here to help people help themselves, not to tell them what to do :) Cheers!
Thank you for being so informative! It helps me make better choices. Please keep making more videos like this!
Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that you find the videos helpful. Definitely more to come! :)
I love how informative this was! You should do much much more and make it a series on comparing food items and their health options....just like you did with the pasta sauce in your vlog! :-)
sweetgoodygoody thank you! Great suggestion, I will do more! :)

N237 yay! So glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Nice and informative video.
Speaking of tortillas, is there anyway to make a low-carb quesadilla?
Thank you for answering these questions!
Mai Hearts Cheese does not contain carbs so if you use tortillas that are (truly) low carb then you should get your "low carb" quesadilla :)
Oooh thanks! Now I should hunt my tortillas :)
Thank you for the tortilla nutritional breakdown! I loved it! I have always struggled with these when I go shopping! The bread video is also fantastic!
amarillis reyes thank you so much! I am so glad you found them useful :)
Great video. I love the way you compare the different types of Tortilla
Frankensleeve thank you! So glad you found it useful!
Still not the best but the macros are good.
what do u think about gmos? im new to ur channel n find a lot of ur vids very informing!
I love this video. I always wanted to know if tortillas were healthy and now I know what to look for :) Huge THANK YOU!!!
+Adriana Medina My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
There's a healthy wrap I use called "Let's Skip the Sandwich". Their wraps are 60 calories a wrap too. I was surprised it wasn't in your video but still love you videos! :)
Up The Ante Neat! I've never heard of those :) Thanks for sharing!
What an amazing video I've been struggling to find a good tortilla for a long time this video helped tons!
thank you!
These are great and informative tips to use when shopping for foods. Thanks so much.
+Caroline Agunbiade My pleasure! Thank you!
Love this type of video, so informative and easy to understand!
So so glad you found it useful! Thank you!
Gotcha! Thank you for the response! Have a good night 😊
i love your videos so much, you've helped me a lot because I'm trying to eat healthy and u make some really good points and great tips! very informative:)
+Jessica Marie awesome! I'm so glad you enjoy, thank you!!
interesting video. I have seen a recipe for tortillas made with cauliflower which has very low carb content. I've not tried it, but have tried making a pizza base with cauliflower, which was great :-)
philiarana Yes! I have a cauliflower tortilla and cauliflower pizza crust recipe on my website and I love them both!! :) Cheers!
This is honestly so helpful, thank you for this!!!
….
.. Your spanish pronunciations make the video bait uplifting than other food-tubers. :)
TheMeatlessTacos you are so welcome!! Thank you for watching! :)
Woow this video is very very helpful. Alyssia thanks so much. Love everything you do for us.

Paulynn Yong thank you so much! I appreciate it! Welcome to the channel :)
I've never been this early to one of your videos! Thank you for this!
Awesome!! Thank you!!!
Also you need a mind over munch notebook for us to buy so I can take notes on your videos!
Great idea!
They're in the refrigerator section :)
angie michelle that's so neat! I will look for them, thanks!
OLE Xtreme Wellness are the most recent tortillas I've purchased. High fiber low carb. 50 calories, 1.5 g fat, 16 carbs, 11g fiber, 4g protein. Whole wheat flour. I found them at Wal-Mart.
Very cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for them!
My favorite is Food For Life Brown Rice Tortillas. They do not work well for burritos because they are very crisp, but they make the most wonderful base for pizza. Skipping all that pizza dough is a good thing!
+wing tweet great suggestion! Love making pizzas on tortillas!!!
Yay been waiting for a video like this. Thank you
Rebecca Shearer awesome! You are welcome!
I hate to state the obvious but you are sooo beautiful and empathetic. And yes, whole wheat grain or flour as the first ingredient is key.
You're amazing! I learn a lot from your videos and you are so adorable! Thanks for the videos !
I'm so glad you're learning! Thank you!! :)
Shannon Kimsal PS I love you!
Very helpful thanks!! Do you have a recipe for homemade tortillas?
Nicole Romero thank yoU! I have a 2-ingredient gluten free tortilla :) ua-cam.com/video/b2ylbawCJ-E/v-deo.html
Mind Over Munch OH gosh thanks! That's AWESOME
GREAT VIDEO. THX. What's yr fav tortilla recipe?
Probably my corn tortillas, I shared them in the vegan fiesta video :)
I'm looking for a healthy low sodium flour tortilla; what what would you strongly suggest?
Lowering the blood pressure.
if you're a Diabetic please remember that Fiber Carbs does not raise blood sugar and can be ignored, but if you're on a low carb diet or keto then you may want to take note
if you want a tortillas that low in calories, carbs, AND fat, try Joseph's Lavash bread. It's a flat bread that's VERY close to the texture of a tortilla and fits those goals very well.
thanks for the tip!
That's a pretty short ingredient list, it's great you're taking a look at the label and making an informed choice for yourself!! :)
As a producer/farmer I can easily recognize ingredients that ppl have absolutely no clue about. More ppl need to be informed. Knowledge is power.
I'm starting keto and I need to keep my carbs under 20g. Sounds like La Banderita is my best option then right? The Ezekiel one has more nutrients but it'll throw me over my net carbs in one meal.
I can't advise which is best for you, but the video is here to help you make the decision for yourself :)
Mind Over Munch well it was very helpful nonetheless. I think La Banderita is the best bet for me. Thanx
Great information!
I love your channel!
Claudia Reyna thank you so much!
found the low carb tortilla yesterday :) you have been very helpful so far I lost 88 pounds but have been stuck for awhile since following you I've been watching the ingredients and lost 3 more pounds lol
Johanna Livingston that's fantastic! Congratulations on your fabulous success! Keep it up :)
Great information to know. I've learned a lot. Thanks for caring to share.

C Sanchez you are welcome!! Thank you for watching!
do you have a salad dressing recipe video by any chance. maybe even kid friendly types.
I have salad dressings I've shown mostly in meal prep videos, and some in my UnJunk your foods eBook :)
I love corn tortillas!!! But thanks for posting this!!! Really helpful :)
Janet Ramirez yes! Corn tortillas are tasty!
My favorite tortillas are the raw ones from Costco👍🏻so good!
so what i learned from doing Keto years back is that net carbs are important to look at when following a low-carb diet because the fiber cannot be digested for fuel in your body.
I'd like to add that I agree with the point that the fiber sources in those low-carb tortillas are a little freaky :p
Thanks for sharing!
